Leonard J. Repp
April 3, 1940 - December 31, 2005
Leonard J. Repp, 65, 7059 North Center Street, Monterey, died Dec. 31 at his residence. He was born April 3, 1940 in Chicago and was the son of William and Florence Repp.
On Nov. 12, 1978 in Monterey he married Helena C. (Weaver) Smith. She survives.
Leonard worked as a set-up man at Eaton Corp. in Winamac for 31 years. He also worked at Buckeye Elevator in Monterey for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and working on cars. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors along with his wife Helena include: two daughters Debbie Armstrong of Winamac and Carol [Todd] Hartle of Warsaw. Six sons, Paul Smith Jr., Rochester, Robert [Lisa] Repp of Plymouth, Daniel [Jennifer] Smith of Monterey, Larry B. Repp of Culver, Christopher [Tabitha] Smith and Omer [Jeannette] Smith, both of Monterey. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren and a brother, John Repp in California.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ernest Armstrong III and a brother, William Repp.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 and after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Rev. Daniel Huhn officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Shirley Marie Hemza
November 18, 1927 - January 2, 2006
Shirley Marie Hemza, 78, 515 East 13th Street, Winamac died Jan. 2 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 18, 1927 in Chicago to Delia Ethel Baugh.
She was married in Chicago to James Joseph Hemza, who is deceased.
Shirley had worked as a secretary for Sears in Chicago for 40 years. Following her retirement she moved to Pulaski County. She had been a resident of Hickory Creek since 1993.
Survivors include several cousins and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, James Joseph Hemza Jr.
Funeral services will be held Friday Jan. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Frain Mortuary with Pastor Carl Lendermon officiating. Burial will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park, Ill.
Visitation will be After 9 a.m. Friday at Frain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mable M. Cupka
May 19, 1914 - December 29, 2005
Mable M. Cupka, 91, 113 Ridge Street, Medaryville, died, December 29, 2005 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born May 19, 1914 in North Judson, and was the daughter of Charles and Martha (Gumz) Pingle.
On October 12, 1940 in Rensselaer she married William H. "Bill" Cupka. He died in 1981.
She had lived in Medaryville since 1940, coming here from Francesville. Mabel was a member of the Medaryville Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Club and was a former Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Post Township Home Economics Club. Mabel graduated from North Judson High School. She was retired from the Medaryville Garment Factory. Mabel had served as the first librarian for the Medaryville Branch of the Pulaski County Public Library. She enjoyed sewing, pottery, ceramics, and reading.
Survivors include two sons: Richard D. [Dolores] Cupka, Sr. of West Lafayette, and W. Roger [Nancy] Cupka of Auburn. Also surviving are five grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and a brother, Walter [Kathleen] Pingle of North Judson.
She was preceded in death by four brothers: Irvin, Leslie, George, and Edwin Pingel; and three sisters: Myrtle Lo, Hilda Ames, and Mildred Kain.
Funeral services were held on Monday January 2, 2006 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, with Pastor Kevin DeKoninck officiating. Burial took place in the St. John Cemetery in Medaryville.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Medaryville Methodist Church.

Clarence A. Bailey
May 3, 1941 - December 29, 2005
Clarence A. Bailey, 64, 700 E. Old State Road 14, Winamac, died December 29, 2005 at his residence.
He was born May 3, 1941 in Knox, and was the son of Allen C. and Jeanette (Bender) Bailey.
On August 4, 1962 in Knox, he married Joyce A. Gappa; she survives.
Clarence was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac. He had served as Elder and Chairman of the Church Board. He was also a former Sunday School teacher. Clarence was a member and past president of the Winamac Rotary Club. He was retired from the Trunkline Gas Co., in North Judson. He loved farming, fishing, and helping at Portside Marina. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting and school events.
Survivors, along with his wife Joyce, are two daughters: Juleen R. [Paul] Henderson of Rochester, and Jennifer L. Belcher of Winamac; two sons: Glenn A.[Dawn] Bailey of Winamac and David W. [Amy]Bailey of Star City. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Brittni Bailey, Taylor Fox, Andrea Bailey, Jessica Fox, Danyell Bailey, Melissa Bailey, Sara Bailey, and Blake Bailey; and a sister, Judy Gore of Michigan City. Clarence was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Miller.
Funeral services were held on Monday Jan. 2 at the First Christian Church in Winamac, with Rev. Glen Meyers officiating. Burial took place in the Bass Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the First Christian Church building fund.

Joshua Jeffrey Kasten
April 7, 1985 - December 18, 2005
Joshua Jeffrey Kasten, 20, formerly of Spooner, Wis. died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, following an automobile accident east of Shell Lake.
He was born April 7, 1985 in Spooner, Wis. to Jeffrey and Lisa (Miller) Kasten. He graduated from Spooner High School with the class of 2003. He worked for some time at Menard's before joining the shipping department at The Turkey Store in Barron, where he had been for nearly a year.
Josh enjoyed time spent with family and friends playing cards, video gaming and listening to music. He also enjoyed youth hockey, baseball, pool, and fishing.
He is survived by his daughter, Naomi Lynn Kasten; special friend, Sam Stewart; his father, Jeff [Mary] Kasten of Spooner, Wis.; a stepsister, Shara Wilcox of Spooner, Wis.; his mother, Lisa [Tim] Langdon of Trego, Wis.; paternal grandparents, Eugene [Sherry] Kasten of Spooner, Wis., maternal grandmother, Audrey Miller of Trego, Wis.; half- sisters and half-brother: Adrienne, Amanda and Zachary; a stepsister, Stephanie; his step-grandmother, Vivian Wilcox of Spring Hill, Fla; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, George W. Miller; great-grandmother, Elsie Naomi Johnson; step-grandfather, Merril Wilcox; great-grandmother and great-grandfather, Bob and Velma Kasten; and great-grandmother Leona Degner and great.grandfather John Degner.
Casketbearers were: Billy Huck, Aaron Hubbell, Phillip Marucha, Scott Amerson, Bryon Baker, Joey Santas, Brad Walstrom and Charlie Schlapper.

Lambert "Curly" Halsema
December 8, 1916 - December 26, 2005
Lambert Halsema, age 89, of Morocco, passed away December 26, 2005 at the Jasper County Hospital. He was born on December 8, 1916 in Lafayette to John and Minnie (Eberle) Halsema.
"Curly" attended the Rensselaer Schools and was a self-employed farmer for 65 years. He worked from 1938 - 1941 at the I.H. Riley Creamery in Rensselaer. He was a St. Joseph College Fellow and he loved fishing and hunting. His marriage was on April 14, 1940 in Lafayette to Helen L. Dickensheets. Curly is survived by his wife, Helen, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Halsema, and three brothers and two sisters.
Private funeral services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Jasper County Hospital Home Healthcare and Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Arthur M. Shell
February 15, 1936 - December 20, 2005
Mr. Arthur M. Shell, 73, 999 East SR 14, Winamac, died Jan. 3 at 12:20 a.m. at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Frain Mortuary in Winamac.

Camilla Bess Poor
July 5, 1918 - January 7, 2006
Camilla Bess Poor, 87, of New Carlisle, died Jan. 7, at Hamilton Nursing Home in New Carlisle. She was born July 5, 1918 in LaPorte to Porter B. and Mabel (Smith) Ludlow.
On April 19, 1952 in LaPorte she married Joseph William Poor, he died Nov. 18, 1974.
She was a member of Asbury Covenant Church in Taveres, Fla., and the Purdue Extension Club of LaPorte County. She had lived in New Carlisle since December 2001 coming from Eustis Fla. She was a former resident of Rolling Prairie, and was a registered x-ray technician and had worked at Fairview Hospital in LaPorte.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Jean Poor, and a brother, Charles O. Ludlow.
There will be no funeral services. She will be buried in the Winamac Cemetery in Winamac. There will be no visitation.
Frain Mortuary in Winamac is in charge of arrangements.
