T. Richard "Dick" Schmicker
April 9, 1921 - January 24, 2006
T. Richard "Dick" Schmicker, 84, of Winamac, died Jan. 24 at 1:50 a.m. at the Pulaski Health Care Center. He was born April 21, 1921 in Winamac to William F. and Katherine C. (Gilsinger) Schmicker. On Aug. 27, 1972 in Lafayette, he married Clara L. (Koebcke) Alkire, she survives.
Dick was a prominent businessman in the Winamac community where he had lived all his life. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce in Winamac.
He had been a member of the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for over 49 years and had served as Captain on the department. He was awarded a Distinguished Service Award from the Governor of Indiana for his outstanding service on the Fire Department.
He founded Schmicker's Ready Mix in 1954, the Colonial Inn in 1966, and at the age of 71, co-founded S&S Precast, Inc., in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing and liked to spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors along with his wife Clara, include: two daughters Anna M. [Terry] Crosser of Monticello, and Michelle K. [Paul] Hettinger of Winamac; three sons Richard D. "Rich" [Wendy] Schmicker of Winamac, William D. [Nathalie E.] Schmicker of Orinda, Calif., and John R. [Lowry] Alkire of Muritta, Calif. Also surviving are: eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters Norma "Susie" [Alvin] Fox of Grass Creek, and Kathryn "Kattie" [Henry] Cooper of South Bend. He was preceded in death by three brothers Joe Schmicker, Bob Schmicker and Thomas P. Schmicker, and a sister, Mary (Schmicker) Cirillo.
Funeral services were held Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Frain Mortuary, with Father John Mencsik officiating. Burial took place in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Winamac. Frain Mortuary was in charge of arrangements

Peggy Jo (Mack) Foerg
March 22 1934 - January 29, 2006
Peggy Jo (Mack) Foerg, 71, of Star City, died Jan. 29 at her residence. She was born March 22, 1934 in Ottawa, Ill, to Clifford and June (Kellogg) Dann.
On Dec. 18, 1993 in Gatlinburg, Tenn., she married Arthur P. Foerg, who survives.
Peggy was a member of the Justice, Ill. Women's Club and had been a member of the Illinois School Board, District 109. She was also a member of the Winamac Eagle's #2580 Auxillary, VFW Post #1728 Auxillary, the Tippecanoe Twirlers Square Dance Club, Bunco Club, and the Nite Liters Home Ec. Club. She was a school bus driver, librarian, and the head of concessions at athletic events for the Eastern Pulaski Schools, Winamac. She was known by many students as Mrs. Mack. She had also served as a house mother and summer camp leader for the Culver Academies.
Survivors along with her husband, Art include; a son David Mack of Justice, Ill. A daughter Tracy Jo [Michael] Fink of Itasca, Ill., a granddaughter Elizabeth Fink, a grandson Matthew Fink, both of Itasca; her mother June Chown of Winamac; two step-daughters Mashell [Scott] Roudebush of Winamac and Lisa [Stacy] Hartle of Culver; two step sons, Kelly [Patsy Balsar] Foerg of West Lafayette, and Kevin [Julie] Foerg of Star City. Also surviving are 10 step grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Jo Mack and a brother, Larry Dann. Funeral services will be held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. with Marcia Cline officiating.
Burial will take place on Feb. 2 in the Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery.
Visitation will be: 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at Frain Mortuary.
The Eagles' Auxillary and the VFW Auxillary will participate in the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles #2580 Auxillary Scholarship Fund.

Arnabelle M. "Belle" Penicaro
January 24, 1924 - January 27, 2006
Arnabelle M. "Belle" Penicaro, 82, of Winamac, died Jan. 27 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born Jan. 24, 1924 in Winamac to Arnold and Mary L (Young) Stepp.
On March 26, 1947 in Chicago, she married Frank Penicaro, he died in October of 1969.
Mrs. Penicaro was a member of the Eagles Auxillary #2580 in Winamac. She was formerly employed as a clerk at the Winamac Ice Cream Plant and was a homemaker and former private duty nurse.
She was also formerly employed at the Pulaski County Welfare Department. She resided in Winamac most of her life, but had formerly lived in Bradenton, Fla. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and playing cards.
Survivors include: two daughters Penni [Floyd] Hilton of Yuma, Ariz. and Tina [Michael] Kasten of Winamac; three sons Danny [Ellen] Penicaro of Greenville, S.C., Timothy Penicaro and Bradley [Cathy] Penicaro, both of Winamac; a daughter-in-law Debra Penicaro of Star City. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Three sisters: Phyllis Jo Cochran and Marilyn [Bob] McCormick both of Winamac and Florence Baldwin of Kewanna; a brother: James Stepp of Bradenton, Fla., She was preceded in death by a son, James Penicaro and a sister, Janice Kay Stepp.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Rev. Edward Clark and Pastor Jon McDugle, officiating. Burial took place in the Winamac Cemetery.
Frain Mortuary in Winamac was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Pulaski County Human Services.

Brandon Michael Carlson
September 22, 1987 - January 26, 2006
Brandon Michael Carlson, 18 of Francesville, died Jan. 26 at 8:34 a.m. at C.R. 200 S and U.S. 421 near Francesville. He was born Sept. 22, 1987 in Rensselaer and was the son of Phillip Dean and Lori L. (Calhoon) Carlson.
Brandon was a senior at West Central High School. He participated in Cross Country and Track Teams and was a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He was a 10-year member of the Salem Super Stars 4-H Club. He attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the church's youth group. He enjoyed playing Playstation and hanging out with his friends.
Survivors along with his parents are: two sisters Samantha M. Carlson and Shaina I. Carlson both of Francesville, his grandmother Phyllis Carlson of Monticello, his grandparents Jack and Sharon Owens of Monon and Jim and Shirley Calhoon of Lafayette, his great grandparents Robert and Lorraine Hansen of Francesville. Also surviving are an uncle Jim Calhoon of Monticello, two aunts Tammy Street and Pam Howard, both of Lafayette and several cousins.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday, Jan. 29 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral in Francesville with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating. Burial took place in Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Youth Group or the National Autism Society.

Edna Methel Bailey Winters
July 2, 1906 - February 2, 2006
Edna Methel (Bailey) Winters, 99, of Monterey died Feb. 2 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth. She was born July 2, 1906 at Bass Station to Harry and Nora (Melvin) Bailey. She was married to Carl Winters, who is deceased. She had been a farm wife.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver. Burial took place in the Round Lake Cemetery in Knox.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl and Edna Winters Scholarship Fund at the Pulaski County Community Foundation, PO Box 407, Winamac, IN. 46996.

JoAnn Brick
September 17, 1946 - February 1, 2006
JoAnn Brick, 59 of Medaryville, died Feb. 1 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She was born Sept. 17, 1946 in Rensselaer to Brownlow and Minnie (Patton) Stepp, both are deceased.
On Oct. 26, 1963 in Medaryville she married Lloyd T. Brick. He survives.
JoAnn was a former employee of Eaton Controls in Winamac for 26 years. She also worked at the Jasper-Pulaski State Nursery. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren, gardening and shopping.
Survivors along with her husband Lloyd, three sons; Randy [Rachel] Brick, Richard [fiance' Denise] both of Medaryville, and Rodney [Debbie] Brick, Watertown, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Ashley Brick, Kelsey Brick and Tyler Brick all of Watertown, N.Y., Emily Brick and Abigail Brick of Winamac; three step grandchildren, Kevin Kripisch, Angela Kripsch and Kayla Bennitt all of Medaryville. Also surviving are: two brothers, Danny Stepp of Valrico, Fla. and Sammie [Josephine] Stepp of DeMotte; three sisters, Betty Jean Pearson of LaPorte, Barb [John] Blaha of San Pierre, and Marylu [Dave] Huskey, Ft. Pierce, Fla. She was preceded in death by: a brother, Charles Stepp and a sister, Ellen Risner.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 4 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, with Pastor Phil Messer officiating. Burial took place in the White Post Cemetery in Medaryville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Donald F. MacLean Sr.
November 27, 1930 - January 31, 2006
Donald F. MacLean Sr., 75 of Star City, died Jan. 31 at St. Francis Hospital Center, Beech Grove. He was born Nov. 27, 1930 in East Chicago to William and Jessie (Waltzer) MacLean.
Donald resided in Pulaski since 1980, coming from Hammond. He was retired after 30 years of employment from Lever Brothers Co., Whiting. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 7 at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Rev. Denny Wilson officiating.
