John R. 'Jack' Hendryx
October 24, 1941 - March 17, 2006
John R. 'Jack' Hendryx, 64, 0521 East White Oak Lane, Winamac, died March 17, 2006 at his residence. He was born October 24, 1941 in Terre Haute, and was the son of Carl and Sylvia (Hile) Hendryx. On December 31, 1961 in Royal Center, he married Sharon K. Risley. She survives.
Jack was a 1959 graduate of Royal Center High School and a 1963 graduate of Ball State University. He received a Masters degree in education from Purdue University. He was a teacher at Eastern Pulaski Community Schools for 39 years. He coached football at Winamac for 36 years and baseball for 24 years. He also coached for the Star City Little League baseball program. Jack was a volunteer fireman at Star City for many years. He served on the Eastern Pulaski Community School Board from 2004 until the time of his death. He was a groundskeeper at Pond View Golf Course in Star City for 26 years. He loved fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan. He loved sports and coaching kids.
Survivors, along with his wife Sharon, are two sons: John [Sherri] Hendryx of Star City and Mark [Pepper] Hendryx of Winamac, and two daughters, Tammy [Ed] Shank and Vicki [Joel] Westfall, both of Winamac. Also surviving are five granddaughters: Halee Hendryx, Hannah Hendryx, Heidi Hendryx, and Rachel Shank; and seven grandsons: Bryan Shank, Cole Hendryx, Jeremiah Adriano, Jon Adriano, Hayden Westfall, Jonah Westfall, and Alex Westfall; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Adriano. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Sylvia Hendryx, and a grandson, Eddie Shank.
Funeral services were held Tuesday March 21, 2006 at the Winamac Church of the Nazarene in Winamac, with Pastor Denny Wilson and Pastor Dan Butcher officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
Frain Mortuary in Winamac was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Winamac Community High School Athletic Department.

Robert K. Burns
November 8, 1953 - March 16, 2006
Robert K. Burns, 52, 702 E. Main St., Medaryville, died March 16 at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox. He was born Nov. 8, 1953 in Rensselaer to Keith Delos and Nellie M. (Dulin) Burns.
Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 96 in Medaryville. Robert had worked as a laborer.
He painted water towers for many years. Robert loved fishing and shooting pool. He enjoyed spending time with many friends. He was a country music fan who loved Willie Nelson. His prized possession was his Willie Nelson autograph.
Robert is survived by his mother Nellie M. (Dulin) Howard of Medaryville, two sons Justin K.
[Nicole] Burns of Medaryville and Thomas Glen [Sylvia] Burns of Francesville. A daughter, Carrie Flummerfelt of Glendale, Ariz., a sister, Diana E. Wireman of Medaryville, and Shelia M. [Cecil Ray] Wireman of Medaryville. Also surviving are four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Wayne Hendershot, and his father, Keith Delos Burns.
Funeral services were held at the Medaryville Assembly of God Church in Medaryville on Monday March 20 with Rev. Tom Dewlen officiating. Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville, were in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Richard A. 'Rick' Pugh
December 31, 1951 - March 18, 2006
Richard A. "Rick" Pugh, 54, 11082 W. 200 N, Kewanna, died March 18, at Memorial Hospital in Logansport. He was born December 31, 1951 in Rochester, and was the son of Oscar L. and Jacqueline (Dollahan) Pugh.
On June 21, 2003 at Bruce Lake, he married Nancy A. Williams. She survives.
Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a good athlete. He loved playing basketball, golf and cards. He could fix anything. He was a former employee of Kaiser Fertilizer in Fulton. He was also employed at Rochester Heat Treat in Rochester and for Legend Valley Products in Leiters Ford.
Funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary on Tuesday, March 21, with Pastor Robert Metzer officiating. Burial took place in the Bruce Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to a college fund established for Rick's grandchildren at the Lake City Bank at Rochester.

Walter L. McClelland
November 1, 1920 - March 18, 2006
Walter L. McClelland, 85, 313 North National Street, Medaryville, died on March 18 at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. He was born Nov. 1, 1920 in Washington Penn. to Edward and Emma (Davis) McClelland.
On June 2, 1946 in Waynesburg, Penn., he married Eleanor Hoge. She survives.
Walter moved to Medaryville, coming from Gary. He was retired from U.S. Steel Corporation. He was a member of the United Steel Workers local in Gary. He moved to Gary from Pennsylvania in 1962. Walter was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church, the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac and the American Legion Post #96 in Medaryville.
Walter served in the Army Medical Corps during WWII on the USS Marigold, a hospital ship. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: his wife Eleanor of Medaryville; a son, James Walter McClelland; a granddaughter, Danica McClelland; and a great granddaughter Shaylyn McClelland, all of Portage, a sister, Mary Shelack of Reading, Penn., and several nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Emma (Davis) McClelland, two sisters, Florence Ullon and Louise Neigman, two brothers, Jack McClelland and Edward McClelland Jr.
Funeral services will be held at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville on Wednesday March 22, with Pastor Kevin DeKonick officiating. Burial will take place in the Green County Memorial Cemetery in Waynesburg, Penn. on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Pulaski County Hospice or to the Medaryville United Methodist Church.

Joe Dean Jackson Sr.
December 16, 1937 - March 21, 2006
Joe Dean Jackson Sr., 68, 10842 W 200 N, Medaryville, died March 21 at his residence. He was born Dec. 16, 1937 in Salyersville, Ky. to Alex and Sarah (Pennix) Jackson.
On Feb. 14, 1959 in Winamac, he married Evelyn I. Rowland, who survives.
Joe was a retired truck driver for Diamond Trucking. He liked hunting, fishing and farming. He lived in Medaryville most of his life.
Surviving along with his wife Evelyn are: three sons, Joe Dean [Kelly] Jackson Jr. of North Judson, Brad Allen [Tracey] Jackson, and Frank P. [Lori] Jackson both of Medaryville, four granddaughters Amber M. Jackson, Melissa Ann Jackson, both of Medaryville, Cheyenne Nicole Jackson and Dakota Sky Jackson, both of North Judson, three grandsons, Brandon Allen Jackson of Medaryville, Joe Dean Jackson III and Riley Lee Jackson, both of North Judson, and a step-granddaughter, Samatha Mae Lincoln of North Judson. Also surviving are three brothers, Ellard Jackson of Medaryville, Pete Jackson of Indianapolis, and Larry Jackson of Bo, Ky., also three sisters Lois Fisher, Katherine Jackson, and Rose Wireman, all of North Judson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held at Leisure Time Gospel Park in Medaryville on Saturday, March 25 with Pastor Buck Jackson officiating. Burial took place in Independence Cemetery in Medaryville.
Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville was in charge of arrangements.

Estill "Donald" Patton
January 23, 1936 - March 24, 2006
Estill "Donald" Patton, 70, 1229 N. 1075 W. Medaryville, died March 24, 2006 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born January 23, 1936 in Hindman, Ky., and was the son of Jasper and Hattie Terry Patton.
Donald was retired from Grand Trunk Western Railroad where he worked for 43 years. He had worked as a lineman and as a crane operator. He was a wildlife enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards, and was also an avid gardener. Donald enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by three daughters: Donna [Steve] Fairchild and Sherry [Kenneth] Nielsen both of Medaryville, and Deeanne [Chris Boehning] Patton of Francesville. Also surviving are four granddaughters: Melissa Sanders, Whitney Nielsen, Emma Nielsen and McKenzie Patton; four grandsons: Bryan Sanders, Kenneth Nielsen II, Wyatt Nielsen and Eli Nielsen; a great-grandaughter , Carli Hubbard, and two great-grandsons: Ashton Sherry and Christopher Sanders and his former wife Kathleen Risner. He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Hattie Patton, also 12 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. on Friday, March 31 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville. A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. Eveston Risner officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to: White Post Volunteer Fire Department.

Margaret E. Copeland
Margaret E. Copeland, 70, of Valparaiso, died at the Horton VNA Hospice Center. She was born May 6, 1935 in Winamac and was the daughter of Kenneth P. and Mary S. (Smith) Gross.
Margaret was a 1953 graduate of Francesville High School and was married to Donald D. Copeland. She was employed as a clerk at MagnaQuench/ug Inc. for 25 years.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul Choir for 10 years, Oasis Club for 10 years, former member of Burlington Beach Improvement Association. She was a former Den Mother for Cub Scouts at Flint Lake School and former PTA officer for 3 years at Flint Lake School.
She is survived by two sons: Gregg Copeland and James [Claire] Copeland, both of Valparaiso; a daughter, Julie [Donald] Iddings of Lowell; five grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth P. [Que] Gross Jr. of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, and her parents.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Valparaiso, with Father Joseph Pawlowski officiating. Burial took place in St. Paul's Cemetery in Valparaiso.
Memorial contributions can be made to VNA Hospice.
Arrangements by Dykes Funeral Home in Valparaiso.
