Lupe Walton
April 12, 2007
Guadelupe 'Lupe' Walton, age 69, passed away April 12, 2007, after a lingering illness. Originally from Gallup, New Mexico, Lupe raised her family in Gary, for 46 years, and then retired with her husband and dog, Mattie, to Winamac.
Lupe is survived by her husband, Robert 'Jerry' Walton; children: George [Sophie] of Crown Point, Michelle Cielenski [Butch] of Downers Grove, Ill., Jerry [Melanie] of Crown Point, Regina McWilliams of Tinley Park, Ill. and John [Laura] of Hobart; grandchildren: Samantha Walton, Alan Duggins, Jr., Roy [Sherri] Duggins, Cody Cielenski, Bo Cielenski, Ryan Walton, Chloe Walton, Justin McWilliams, Breanne McWilliams, Jack Walton, Nolan Walton and Vince Walton; great-grandchildren: Niko and Kendyl Duggins; brothers and sisters: Pedro [Terry] Sparks of Nevada, Mary Helen Rodriguez, Susie Rodriguez and Joseph Rodriguez of Gallup, New Mexico, and Rose Scaffati of Whittier, Calilfornia. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lupe Walton, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, mastered many crafts such as stained glass, quilting, embroidering and crocheting, that she lovingly shared. She enjoyed gardening and watching her little birds. She was, and always will be admired for her strength and her faith.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 16, 2007, 10:30 a.m at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 321 B. Joliet Street, Crown Point, with Rev. Patrick J. Kalich officiating. Interment was at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville.

Joseph Willis, Sr.
May 2, 1929 - April 12, 2007
Joseph Willis Sr., 77, 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, died April 12, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. He was born May 2, 1929 in Westville, Ill., the son of Bill and Julia (Cruppenik) Willis.
In 1948, he married Princess Salyer. She died in 1965.
Joe moved to Medaryville in 1965 from San Pierre. He had worked at the Steel Mills in Chicago for several years. He moved to Winamac in 1969. Joe was a member and former Pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Winamac. He served as the nursing home chaplain for many years. He also attended the Life Center Church in Winamac. He was always willing and able to assist anyone who needed help with handy man chores. Joe enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop and in his garden. He loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter Janet L. [Bill] Zych of Greenwood; three granddaughters: Lauren Korenstra, Allysa Zych, and Kristinna Willis; one grandson, Stephen Zych; two sisters: Mary [Bob] Frevert of Munster and Betty Phares of Valparaiso; two brothers: Johnny Columbo of Danville, Ill. and Bill Columbo of Ohio; and one daughter-in-law, Sandi Wagner-Willis of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Princess (Salyer) Willis, his parents: Bill and Julia (Cruppenik) Willis; one son, Joseph Willis Jr.; two brothers: Henry Columbo and George Columbo; and one sister, Helen Smith.
Memorial services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac on Saturday, April 14, with Rev. Tom Dewlen officiating. Burial took place in Sutton Cemetery in Medaryville.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.

Joan M. Beehler
Joan M. Beehler, age 79, of West Broadway Street, Mishawaka, formerly of Winamac, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend of natural causes. Joan was born August 19, 1927 in Winamac to Peter and Matilda (Mosie) Becker. On August 2, 1948, Joan married Mr. Vernice D. Beehler in Mishawaka; she was divorced from Vernice in 1960. He preceded her in death, passing away in 2004.
Joan was employed at the Uniroyal Corporation in Mishawaka for 30 years retiring at age 62. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and gardening. In her life, Joan maintained her love for the Catholic teaching, following their guideline to serve God.
Surviving is her daughter, Toni J. Beehler and her husband Michael E. Hardy of South Bend and their son Patrick Beehler-Hardy and her son Steven J. Beehler and his wife Jill (Kiser) Beehler of Warsaw, and their two children, Katie A. Beehler of Warsaw, and Kiel A. Beehler of New York. Also surviving are three brothers: Thomas [Frances] Becker of South Bend, Carl [Mildred] Becker of Ft. Wayne, and Jack [Mary Catherine] Becker of Winamac. Also surviving is one sister, Pauline [Jack] Fites of Winamac, and many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by a son, Billy Beehler; four brothers, Eugene, Clem S., Richard, and Ralph Becker; and three sisters: Helen Johnson, Alberta Wank, and Mary Lou Dornsife.
Services were private. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola handled arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to: The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care; 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46635.

Evelyn M. Grieger
March 1914 - April 12, 2007
Evelyn M. Grieger, 93, Francesville, died April 12, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born in March of 1914 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Henry C. and Marie M. (Claussen) Nickels.
On Feb. 6, 1935 in Wanatah, she married Orval C. Grieger. He died on Jan. 27, 1996. Evelyn lived most of her life in Francesville and was a member of the St. James - Salem United Church of Christ in Francesville. Her hobby was keeping her husband and her family well fed and her house spotlessly clean. Evelyn had a wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty [Carl] Kruger of Francesville; two sons: Larry [Patsy] Grieger of Francesville, Ron [Theresa] Grieger of Shrewsbury, Mass.; two granddaughters: Cindy Hickle of Winamac and Khara Grieger of Denmark; eight grandsons: Douglas Kruger, Roger Grieger, and Jonathon Greiger, all of Francesville, Jeffrey Kruger of Lafayette, Alan Grieger of Texas, Brian Grieger and Scott Grieger, both of S.C., and Brent Grieger of Kewanna; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one sister, Lois Tanner of Winamac. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval C. Grieger; her parents: Henry C. and Marie M. (Claussen) Nickels; one daughter: Barbara Grieger, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home in Francesville on Monday, April 16, with Rev. Lynn Rosiejka officiating. Burial took place in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association or St. James-Salem United Church of Christ.

Marguerite Fay Hedges
Sept. 3, 1917 - April 17, 2007
Marguerite Fay Hedges, 89, Mulberry, died April 17, at Mulberry Health and Retirement Home in Mulberry. She was born Sept 3, 1917, in Monon, the daughter of Tony and Rose (Hazel) Pratt.
On Dec. 23, 1945, at the Monon Baptist Church, she married Ira B. Hedges. He passed away Nov. 9, 1974.
Mrs. Hedges graduated from Monon High School in 1936, and from Ball State Teachers College in 1939. She was an Elementary School teacher for 34-1/2 years at Monon, Francesville, Delphi, Logansport, and Lafayette. Mrs. Hedges was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monon. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Remington Chapter 169. She was in the Indiana and White County Retired Teachers Assoc. She was active in the White County 4-H Fair Organization and an honorary member of the 4-H Queen Contest Committee. Mrs. Hedges was in the Monon American Legion Women's Aux. She was also in the Ball State Alumni Association, the Monon Civic Preservation Society and Current Literature Club in Monon.
Survivors include two daughters: Debra Hedges of Crown Point and Gay Lynn Hedges of Monon; one brother, Harold Pratt of Monon; two nieces: Carol Sue [Jim] McGill of Monon and Connie [Daniel] (Fritz)Vanaman of Winamac; and two nephews: Harold Richard Pratt of Monticello and Kenny Fritz of Winamac. She was preceded in death by her parents: Tony and Rose (Hazel) Pratt; her husband, Ira B. Hedges; and brother-in-law Lewis Hedges.
An Eastern Star Service was held Thursday, April 19. Funeral services were held at the Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello on Friday, April 20. Burial took place in the Monon Cemetery in Monon.
Memorial contributions may be given to the White County Ag Association.

Dortha Strong Waidner
July 25, 1915 - April 17, 2007
Dortha Strong Waidner, 91, Zionsville, formerly of Mishawaka and Lake Bruce, left this weary world on April 17 and is now in the presence of her savior, Jesus. Dortha was born on July 25, 1915, in Idaville, to Clarence R. and Avanga (Buck) Strong, who both preceded her in death.
On October 10, 1953, in Epworth Memorial UM Church she married Fred F. Waidner who preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1992. Also preceding her in death was one daughter, Karolyn Kay Pritchett; one grandson, William Burkus; and two brothers, Clarence and Warren Strong. Mrs. Waidner is survived by her daughter Deborah Wingerter and her husband Robert of Zionsville. Also surviving are the loves of her life, her grandchildren: Deidra [Tony] Smith; Bo, Zachary, and Seth Wingerter of Zionsville, Laurie Schaphorst of Elkhart, and Stephanie Kabay of Bristol. She also has nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-granchildren. Her sister, Phyllis Louderback of South Bend and her brother, Raymond Strong of Chapel Hill, N.C. also survive along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dortha was a member of River Park UMC in South Bend, Schuyler Colfax Chapter of the DAR, Tristram Coffin Chapter of Colonial Dames XVIIC in Winamac, the Indiana Genealogical Society, Society of Indiana Pioneers, Historic Landmarks Foundation, and the Fulton County Historical Society in Rochester, Indiana.
Dortha loved her cottage at Lake Bruce and had been spending summers there for the last sixty years. She was a talented artist who spent hours knitting and crocheting afghans, sweaters and hats for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorotha and her close friend Nina Solloway were known as the craft queens and would spend hours making things out of various ordinary items. She was also an accomplished seamstress and had worked for many years as an office manager. Dorotha was a good listener and many family members and friends remember her as someone who would really listen to them when in conversation.
Viewing was held on Friday, April 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Zionsville Fellowship Church, 9090 E. SR 334, Zionsville, with the funeral there on Saturday at 11 a.m. A committal service was held at the grave site at 4 p.m. that day at the Star City West cemetery in Star City.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wheeler Mission Ministries, St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, or the Fulton County Historical Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, Zionsville.

Aubree Jean Townsend
January 3, 2007- April 18, 2007
Aubree Jean Townsend, 3 months, 15 days, of Monterey, passed away at 9:38 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in St. Joseph Hospital, Plymouth.
Born Jan. 3 in Logansport, she was the daughter of W. Corey Townsend and Gustave F. (Stirk) Salyer.
Survivors include her parents, W. Corey Townsend and Gustave F. [Stirk] Salyer, both of Monterey; Maternal Grandparents, Virginia Michels, of Monterey and Teddy Smith [Jesse] of Martinton, Illinois; Paternal Grandparents, W. Brad Townsend of Paulding, Ohio and Virginia Cunningham [Terry] of Convoy, Ohio; Paternal Great-Grandparents, Wally & Carole Townsend of Twelve Mile and Dorothy Zartman of Rochester, Indiana. Brothers, Russell Cody and Dillon Ray Sayler; Sisters, Erin Nicole, Courtney Alice and Reese Oliver Sayler, all of Monterey.
Services were held Sunday, April 22 at Harrison-Metzger Funeral Homes, Kewanna Chapel.
