Richard Devon Smith
January 15, 1930 - January, 2008
Richard Devon Smith, 78, departed this life on Tuesday, January 22, 2008, in Yuma, Arizona. He was born on January 15, 1930, in Francesville, Indiana, and preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Sylvia Smith and sister Paulina Smith. Richard retired at age 45 and loved spending summers in Winamac, Indiana, and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Winamac was home for many years to Richard and Clara Louise, his loving wife of 54 years. They owned and operated the Indian Head Restaurant in Winamac from 1964 to 1976 and owned the Indian Head Motel which they built in 1968. Richard loved to soar. He had his pilot's license since age 16 and flew his own plane for his and his family's pleasure. Fishing was also a passion, as he and Clara fished South Padre Island for 15 winters.
Richard is survived by wife, Clara Louise; sons: Mikel J. Smith and wife, Jo Kyle, of Yuma, Ariz.; Steven D. Smith of London, England; three grandchildren: Lt. Kelly Jo Smith and husband, Irven, of Baltimore, Md.; Earl D. Smith and Jill, of Bel Air, Maryland; Eric M. Smith of Franklin, Ohio; and one great granddaughter, Magdalena Rose Smith of Bel Air, Maryland. His surviving sisters are Arlene Gutwein and husband, Adam, of Medaryville; Phyllis Anderson and husband, Don, of Granbury, Texas; Madeleine Gutwein and husband, Fred, of Francesville, and Diane Culp and husband, James, of Francesville; and a brother, Ronald Smith of Lafayette.
His laughter and love for life will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday January 28th, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral services following at 2 p.m. at Kammann Mortuary 795 W. 28th St., Yuma, Arizona.
Memory of life celebration will take place at a later date in Winamac.

Lovetta A. Gilman
March 19, 1921 - January 25, 2008
Lovetta Allien Gilman, 86, of 5514 East 450 South, Star City, died January 25, 2008, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. She was born March 19, 1921, in Brook, Ind., the daughter of Clarence and Jesse Dowell Palmer.
On January 1, 1940 in Brook, Ind., she married William Keith Gilman. Mr. Gilman died on October 21, 1989.
She was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church and was a past president of the United Methodist Women. Lovetta was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Women's Book Club and served on the board of PARC in Winamac. She was an avid reader, and euchre player. Lovetta enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include: four daughters: Patricia Carney of Venice, Fla., Nancy [Robert] Wilburn of Rochester, Ind., Lucy [Ernest] Winchester of Oxford, Ind., Robin [John] Vandewalle of Lafayette; six sons: Stanley [Jan] Gilman of Bringhurst, Ind., William [Janice] Gilman of Delphi, Ind., Charles [Jeri] Gilman of Sarasota, Fla., Timothy Gilman of Star City, Michael [Chris] Gilman of Winamac, Jeffery Gilman of Valparaiso; 26 Grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren; a brother, Gordon [Geneva] Palmer of Wolcott, Ind. She was preceded in death by: her husband, William Keith Gilman; a daughter, Brenda Rife; a son, Ronald Gilman; her sister, Betty; her father, Clarence Albert Palmer; her mother, Jesse M. Dowell Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM EST Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Rev. Kevin Marsh officiating. Burial will take place in the Chapel Cemetery located in Monon, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be given to: Pulaski Developemental Services or the American Lung Association.

Robert M. Moore, 78, of Rochester, died Jan. 19, 2008.

Large
Russell Leroy Large, 59, of 11710 E. Colfax Ave., Aurora, Co. died Jan. 23, 2008 at his residence.

Patrick Joel Garrett
August 4, 1968 - January 24, 2008
Patrick Joel Garrett, age 39, of Lafayette, formerly of Winamac, died at 12:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 at Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born Aug. 4, 1968 born to Ronald Ward and Donna Lee [Deeming] Garrett, who both survive.
He is survived by his father, Ronald Ward Garrett of Royal Center, his mother, Donna Lee Deeming, his step-mother, Nelda Marie Garrett, his brother, Scott William (Marilyn) Garrett, a niece, Molly L. Garrett, and step-sister, Barbara E. Pugh, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his brother, Ronald Shawn Garrett, and an uncle, Leonard Ray Garrett.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 28 at Soller-Baker funeral home in Lafayette. Burial took place.

NELLIE M. WILLIAMSON
February 6, 2007
Nellie M. "Marcie" (DuBois) Williamson, 71, of 200 26th St., Logansport, IN, passed away at 5:10 PM Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Logansport Memorial Hospital in Logansport, IN.
She was born February 25, 1935, in Ripley, IN, to Joseph and Madonna Reinholt DuBois. She married John Paul Williamson on Oct. 15, 1956, in Jeffersonville, IN. He died May 13, 1991.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, word search books, cooking shows and old westerns.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
She was a great blessing to her family and will be greatly missed.

EVERETT MONROE FRITZ
February 3, 2007
Everett Monroe Fritz, 96, of 353 East 100 South Winamac, IN, passed away at 10AM Saturday, February 3, 2007 at his residence in Winamac, IN.
Everett was born January 28, 1911 in Winamac, IN to George M. & Nellie Ruth Fritz. He married Mary I. Hedges on November 9, 1935 in Winamac, IN. Mary survives.
Everett was a member of the First Christian Church in Winamac, IN. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Everett was a Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, and fishing.

HOMER WAYNE GRIFFEY
February 3, 2007
Homer Wayne Griffey, 76, of 306 East Main Street, Medaryville, IN, passed away at 2:06 PM Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, IN.
He was born November 16, 1930, in Gary, IN, to Homer and Ida Conley Griffey.
He married Betty Jean Hershman on May 4, 1952, in the Medaryville Christian Church. She survives.
He served three years in the US Air Force in the 1940's.
He retired from the Ford Stamping Plant in Chicago Heights, IL in 1981 after 17 years of employment.
He and his wife owned and operated Baum's Bridge Inn in Kouts for 10 years.
He attended the Apostolic Church in Francesville, IN.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling to Mexico.
