Arnold E. "Jack" Shidler, 83, of 821 South Market St., Winamac, IN, passed away at 9:35 PM Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, IN.

He was born June 12, 1924, in Royal Center, IN, to Thomas and Ruth Biddle Shidler Sr.. Jack married Norma L. Smith on Sept. 20, 1969, in Plymouth, IN. She survives.

Jack served in the US Army from 1944 until 1946. He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat and the Bronze Star Medal. Jack owned Jack's Tropical Fish in Winamac, IN, and Tulsa, OK, for several years. He retired from Whallon Machine in Royal Center, IN, as a machinist in 2001. Jack was a former member of the Winamac Eagles club, Life Member of the Winamac VFW Post 1728, Life member of the DAV and a Life Member of the 80th Division Veterans Association. He was a member of the Pulaski Presbyterian Church. Jack raised birds as a hobby and was an avid woodworker.

Burial will take place in the Pulaski Presbyterian Cemetery located at Pulaski, IN

Friends may call 4-8 PM EDT Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Frain Mortuary.

Memorial Contributions may be given to the Pulaski Presbyterian Church.

The American Legion and VFW will conduct military graveside services.

Diana L. Walls, 55, of 3414 S 325 E, Star City, IN, passed away at 12:58 PM Sunday, April 6, 2008 at her residence.

She was born September 7, 1952, in Elkhart, IN, to Paul and Ethel Akin Canen Sr.

She was a homemaker and a CNA working at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver, IN.

She enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren.

She like to sew and crochet, gardening, flowers, and yard work.

She lived in Star City for the past four years, coming from Elkhart, IN.

ROBERT DEAN MARCH

Robert Dean March, 67, of 2320 South 50 East, Winamac, IN, passed away at 6:32 PM Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his residence in Winamac, IN.

He was born April 22, 1940, in Pulaski, IN, to Darl and Essie Parish March. He married Sharon Linback on June 14,1985 in Winamac, IN. Sharon survives.

Bob graduated from Winamac High School in 1958. He received a BA degree from Tulane University in 1962 where he attended on a basketball scholarship. Bob received an MS degree from Indiana State University in 1969. Bob taught at Knox High School from 1962 until 1965 and at Winamac High School from 1965 until 1981. He taught driver's education, government, economics, psychology, sociology and US history. He served as the Winamac Community High School Athletic Director and Dean of Students from 1981 until 1998. Bob also coached baseball track and basketball.

Bob enjoyed farming, especially running his combine. He also enjoyed playing golf, euchre and he especially loved playing poker. Bob was an avid mushroom hunter. Bob also enjoyed watching high school and college basketball. He officiated basketball games for many years. He was a member of the Indiana Basketball Officials Association and the Indiana Basketball Coach’s Association. Bob's true passion was coaching basketball. He coached boys basketball in the 1960's and 1970's. Since his retirement in 1998 he served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Winamac Lady Warriors. Bob had also helped his wife Sharon coach the Winamac middle school girls basketball team for several years.

Bob was a member of the District 1 Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He recieved the Charles F. Mass Distinguished Service Award in March of 1998. He served on the Board of Directors of the Rochester Farmers Mutual Insurance Co.

Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac, IN.

Friends may call 2-9 PM EDT Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Frain Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the Church on Monday.

Memorial Contributions may be given to: Pulaski Memorial Hospice, Road to Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society, American Diabetis Association or to the Ronald McDonald House.

Opaline Risner, 71, of 0989 North 500 West, LaPorte, IN, passed away at 7:07 PM Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

She was born April 26, 1936, in Ivyton, KY, to Wiley and Martha Hopkins Bailey. She married Harold H. Risner on Nov. 21, 1952. He died on Dec. 15, 2006.

She was a former resident of Medaryville, Michigan City and LaPorte. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Portis Hat Co. in Michigan City and had been a seamstress and union steward at the Eastmore Garment Factory in Michigan City. She was also packer and inspector at the Whirlpool Co in LaPorte, IN. Opal enjoyed cooking, camping, traveling, gardening and she was an avid reader. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
