Robert L. Shank Sr.

WINAMAC -- Services for Robert L. Shank Sr., 76, of 321 N. Market St., will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

He died at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 18, 1999, in his residence.

Born March 31, 1923, in Winamac, he was the son of John C. and Anna Gilsinger Shank. On Sept. 27, 1948, in Pulaski, he was married to Beatrice M. Bauman, who died Oct. 10, 1997.

Mr. Shank retired in 1989 as the owner of Shank’s Men’s Store in Winamac. His family had owned and operated the business for 68 years. He also was the former co-owner of Shank’s News Agency in Winamac.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Shank was a member of the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years.

He had served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 71 in Winamac.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalind D. and Larry Larkin and Barbara J. and Thomas White, all of Winamac; one son, Robert L. Shank Jr., Logansport; three sisters, Ruth Falvey, Winamac, Agnes Fruin, Bloomington, Ill., and Janetta Ford, Centralia, Ill.; one brother, Vincent Shank, Ottawa, Ill.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Five brothers preceded in death.

The Rev. John Hoying will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 71 and VFW Post 1728, will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday in Frain Mortuary. The rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a scriptural wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Winamac Volunteer Fire Department and to the American Heart Association.

Crystal B. Peed

ROYAL CENTER -- Crystal B. Peed, 93, Royal Center, died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday in Chase Center, Logansport.

Arrangements are pending at Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.

James C. Woodruff

James C. Woodruff, 2, of 1216 North St., died at 2:06 a.m. Sunday in Logansport Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

Arrangements are pending at McCloskey-Hamilton-Gundrum Funeral Home.

Garnette F. Neumann

Memorial services for Garnette F. Neumann, 81, of 1135 Pleasant Hill St., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Main Street United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Neumann died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born April 3, 1918, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Clyde and Hilda W. Goltz Smith. On Nov. 12, 1939, in Logansport, she was married to Otto H. Neumann, who died Jan. 22, 1974.

Mrs. Neumann had worked in the cafeteria at Logansport High School.

She attended Main Street United Methodist Church and was a volunteer at Chase Center and Miller’s Merry Manor, where she assisted with bingo and senior activities.

Mrs. Neumann was a member of Smiles Unlimited clown ministry and also did volunteer sewing at Camelot Care Center. She enjoyed assisting people with shopping and transportation.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Karen Neumann, Bolingbrook, Ill.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Dale Burrough, Marion, Sally and Jerry Stanley, LaFontaine, Doris Gaby and Judith Watson, both of Logansport; sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Bob Baumgart, Danville, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.

The Rev. Mark Berg and the Rev. Don Ruhl will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour before services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church or any favorite charity.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter R. Coleman

KOKOMO -- Services for Walter R. Coleman, 88, 1600N 400W, Kokomo, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel.

He died at 2:20 a.m. Monday April 19, 1999, in Howard Community Hospital.

Born March 13, 1911, in Miami County, he was the son of Ira and Lottie Moore Coleman. On Feb. 22, 1933, in Summitville, he was married to Helen Brant, who survives.

Mr. Coleman was a farmer and he also raised and boarded quarter horses.

He was a member of the Indiana Quarter Horse Association and he had a love for horses and anything to do with a horse.

He attended Faith Church of Christ, Burlington.

Also surviving are one son, Ronald Coleman, Walton; two daughters and their husbands, Patsy and Jack Sewell, Kokomo, and Sherry and Bob Brinson, Kokomo; Eight grandchildren, Dick and Diane Coleman, Terry and Lynn Coleman, Connie and Kevin Deason, Kathy and Randy Crowe, Brian and Susan Sewell, Jon Sewell, Ted and Dea Brinson, and Tony and JassicaJoyce Ingle 4/20/99 Brinson, 14 great-grandchildren, Jennie and Rick Degraff, Tami Coleman, Melissa Coleman, Kyle Coleman, Cole Deason, Cayla Deason, Bethany Sewell, Nathan Sewell, Matthew Coleman, Joey Benker, Nichole Benker, Scott Kessler, Holly Kessler, and Hannah Brinson; four sisters, Pearl Mays, Frankfort, Ruth Richards, Anderson, Dorothy Coleman, Flora, and Norma Spangler, Kokomo; one brother, Paul Coleman, Zapta, Texas; and two foster grandchildren, Jay and Tammy Kessler.

Two sons, one brother, one sister and one great-granddaughter preceded in death.

Pastor Brian Sewell will officiate the services. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church of Christ, State Road 29 South, Burlington.

Mabel M. Brewer

DELPHI -- Services for Mabel M. Brewer, 84, of 209 E. Adams St., will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Horn Funeral Home.

She died at 5:10 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

Pastor Toby Rendleman will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.

Joseph B. Vickery

Funeral Mass for Joseph B. Vickery, 70, of 500 Helm St., will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in All Saints Catholic Church.

Mr. Vickery died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born Aug. 22, 1928, in Logansport, he was the son of Bruce R. and Margaret M. Kennedy Vickery.

He was a retired carpenter for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Mr. Vickery was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a photographer and a Civil War buff, as well as a member of the Logansport Eagles.

He was active in Cass County Senior Citizens activities, including the Supper Club, Line Dancers and Senior Olympics, where he had won several medals.

Surviving are on brother, Philip H. Vickery, Parker City; two sisters, Agnes Gregory, Logansport, and Alice Neff, Culver; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

One brother, John C. Vickery, and one sister, Mary Regina (Vickie) Gunlon, preceded in death.

Father Donald Gross will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kroeger Funeral Home, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church and the Logansport Fire Department for the 1873 fire steamer restoration, c/o Logansport Savings Bank.

James C. Woodruff

James C. Woodruff, 2, of 1216 North St., died at 2:06 a.m. Sunday in Logansport Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

Joseph L. Brown

CAMDEN -- Joseph L. Brown, 77, of 371 N. Indiana St., died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in St. Elizabeth Healthcare Hospital, Delphi.

Arrangements are pending at Cree Funeral Home.

Lester T. ‘Bill’ Douglass

Services for Lester T. "Bill" Douglass, 90, Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

He died at 8:51 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in Tandem Health Care Center, Vero Beach, Fla.

Born Oct. 9, 1908, in Lucerne, he was the son of James W. and Naomi B. Bybee Douglass. He was married to Dorothy Whitmeyer, who preceded in death. He was married to Naomi Kern, who also preceded in death. He was married to Mary Shuman, who survives in Vero Beach, Fla.

Mr. Douglass retired, in 1980 as a purchasing agent for United Technologies, where he was employed for 42 years.

He was a former member of Cross-Wind United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are three sons, Charles W. Douglass, Greenwood, Richard D. Douglass, Indianapolis, and William P. Douglass, Farmington Hills, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Kay Billman, Vero Beach, Fla.,; one brother, J. Paul Douglass, South Bend; nine grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

One brother, one sister and one stepson preceded in death.

The Rev. Chip Gast will officiate the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Madge Leora Berry

WAPAKONETA, Ohio -- Graveside services for Madge Leora Berry, 94, formerly of W. Main St., will be held at 1 p.m. (Ohio Time) Thursday in the Monterey Cemetery, Monterey, Ind.

She died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, in Wapakoneta Manor.

Born May 17, 1904, in Ora, Ind., she was the daughter of William and Daisy Overmeyer Stevens. On Nov. 8, 1924, she married George William Berry, who died July 5, 1964.

Mrs. Berry was a homemaker, teacher and substitute teacher. She earned her teaching certificate from North Manchester College.

She was active for several years with the Wapakoneta Women’s Club, and was former treasurer for the Auglaize Co. Visiting Nurses Association.

She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and LaVerne Berry, Lawrence, Kan.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Clark, Oregon, Ohio, and Sandra and Charles Brading, Wapakoneta; nine grandchildren Brian, Bruce, and Brent Berry, Debra Avers, Cathy and Barry Clark, William, Sarah, and Amanda Brading; nine great-grandchildren, one sister Laverne Stevens, Punta Gorda, Fla.

One brother, Ernest Stevens, and one sister, Mildred Keller, preceded in death.

The Rev. J. WIlliam Schiller will officiate the services.

There is no visitation.

Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta, is in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Eugene Lee

Services for Arthur Eugene Lee, 81, formerly of 1218 N. Third St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in McCloskey-Hamilton-Gundrum Funeral Home.

He died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born April 27, 1917, in Thorntown, he was the son of Roy Sidney and Effie May Hardesty Lee. On June 20, 1965, in Logansport, he was married to Jane E. Hardy Scott who survives.

Mr. Lee retired from Muehlhausen Spring Company in 1989.

He was a member of Logansport First Church of the Nazarene.

Also surviving are one son, Harold L. and his wife Cassie Lee, Frankfort; one stepdaughter, Esther Marie and her husband William Gunter, Bradenton, Fla.; two grandsons, Mark Lee and Tony Lee, both of Frankfort; five stepgrandchildren, Christina King, Renee Albrittan, Billy Gunter, John Gunter, and Bryan Gunter, all of Bradenton Fla.; eight stepgreat-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

One sister preceded in death.

The Rev. Horace Smith will officiate at the services. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Ralph F. Knoll

MONTICELLO -- Services for Ralph F. Knoll, 78, of 1120 N. Main St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.

He died at 8:25 a.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in Monticello Healthcare Center.

The Rev. Alvin Rockey will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Riverview IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

David Patrick Nix

David Patrick Nix, 56, of 1644 N. Delaware, Indianapolis, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, in Clarian Health Partners Methodist Campus, Indianapolis.

George ‘Bud’ L. Muehlhausen

ROYAL CENTER -- George "Bud" L. Muehlhausen, 79, Logansport, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Wayne A. Larimore

Wayne A. Larimore, 87, Clymers, died at 7 a.m. today in his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Charles D. Gaumer

Services for Charles D. Gaumer, 76, of 6841 W. Georgetown Canal St., will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

He died at 9 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 1999, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 1, 1922, in Cass County, he was the son of Albert G. and Nora Davis Gaumer. On Jan. 31, 1942, in Burnettsville, he was married to Ethel M. Pugh Gaumer, who survives.

Mr. Gaumer retired from Kain’s Motors, after 28 years as a truck driver. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.

Also survivng are one son, Jack Lee Gaumer, Logansport; one daughter, Carol Sue Bligh, Andrews; one brother, Wayne H. Gaumer, Logansport; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Beverly Ann Walther, preceded in death.

The Rev. Donald Ruhl will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral chapel.
