Joe R. Pownell

Services for Joe R. Pownell, 81, of Logansport, formerly of Macy, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

He died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born Oct. 13, 1917, in Burnettsville, he was the son of Frank and Martha Meeker Pownell. On Feb. 18, 1940, in Burnettsville, he was married to Maxine M. Snyder, who survives.

Mr. Pownell was a retired farmer. He was a member of Logansport Church of Christ.

Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Cindy Pownell, Walton; one daughter and son-in-law, Gail and David Rush, Walton; one brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Thora Pownell, Logansport; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Jack Regan, Lake Cicott, Jean Hook, Kansas, Ill., and Louise Pownall, Logansport; four grandchildren, Angie Pownell Wisler, Logansport, Chris Pownell, Walton, Tia Rush Jackson, Rapid City, S.D., and Troy Rush, Alexandria; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter, Beth Pownell Bowser, and his stepmother, Pearl Pownell, preceded in death.

Jeff Strite and David Welsh will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the BETH Foundation (Bring Every Teen Home), 6096S 900E, Walton.

Frank Douglas Hinkle

WALTON -- Services for Frank Douglas Hinkle, 53, of Richmond Hills, Ga., formerly of Walton, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Murray Funeral Home, Walton Chapel.

Mr. Hinkle died at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, D.C.

Born Sept. 30, 1945, in Kokomo, he was the son of Jay Ross and Wilma Jean Hinkle.

After 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, he retired in 1998.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 418 and Walton Christian Church.

Surviving are two brothers, Phillip Dean Hinkle, Indianapolis, and Richard Jay Hinkle, Laurel, Md.; one sister, Sue Ellen Woolever, Walton; two nephews; three nieces; two great-nephews; five great-nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Rev. Bill Collins will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and Walton Christian Church.

Vida Ruth Galloway

WALTON -- Graveside services for Vida Ruth Galloway, 90, of Chase Center, Logansport, formerly of 105 E. South St., Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Walton IOOF Cemetery.

She died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in Chase Center.

Born April 29, 1909, in Walton, she was the daughter of John and Anna Bechdol. On Nov. 28, 1925, she was married to Orville (Perk) Galloway, who died Aug. 25, 1993.

Owner of Perk’s Cafe & Bar in Walton, she had retired from the business.

Surviving are one daughter, Betty Sixbey, of Logansport; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

One son and one brother preceded in death.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday in Murray Funeral Home, Walton Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Lutheran Church.

Elma R. Rayber

DENVER -- Services for Elma Ruth Rayber, 98, of Perrysburg, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Perrysburg Baptist Church.

She died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Peru.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in McClain Funeral Home.

Esther Ulerick

Esther Ulerick, 90, of 2518 George St., died at 12:30 a.m. today in her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Dale R. Gibbons

ARGOS -- Services for Dale Ray Gibbons, 48, of 8136S 75E, Rochester, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Grossman Funeral Home.

He died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, following an illness.

The Rev. Richard Dean will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Maxinkuckee IOOF Cemetery, formerly the Poplar Grove Cemetery, west of Argos.

Friends may call from noon to 2 and 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday in the funeral home, where a Maxinkuckee IOOF memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis.

Esther A. Ulerick

Esther A. Ulerick, 90, of 2518 George St., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Metea Baptist Church.

She died at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, in her residence.

Born Oct. 20, 1908, in Bethlehem Township, Cass County, she was the daughter of Perry O. and Edith Thomas Brown. On Oct. 30, 1937, in Logansport, she was married to Lawrence Ulerick, who died Jan. 9, 1969.

Mrs. Ulerick formerly lived at 5219E County Road 875N, near Twelve Mile.

A graduate of Metea High School, she was an Avon representative in the Bethlehem and Adams Township area for over 35 years. She also had worked at the former H.W. Gossard Company in Logansport.

Mrs. Ulerick was a member of the Metea Baptist Church where she had been organist for over 60 years.

Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Wilma J. and Wilbert H. Paschen, Twelve Mile, and Jeness Maxson, Gibsonton, Fla.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Leo E. Ulerick, South Bend, and Warren and Bonnie Ulerick, Mankato, Minn.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and the extended family members of her son-in-law, Wilbert Paschen.

Dr. Bryan Clemens and the Rev. George Hapner will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Metea Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel and one hour before services Thursday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Metea Baptist Church and the Neal Home.

Roy E. Case

PERU -- Services for Roy Elza Case, 89, of 390 Boulevard, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

He died at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 1999, in Dukes Memorial Hospital.

Chaplain Steve Fleck will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Emily A. Studebaker

Memorial services for Emily A. Studebaker, 94, of Homestead, Fla., formerly of Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Mount Hope Cemetery.

She died at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, in Florida.

Born Oct. 8, 1904, in Logansport, she was the daughter of James I. and Emily C. Englebrecht Barnes. On Aug. 31, 1932, she was married to William T. Studebaker, who preceded in death.

Mrs. Studebaker was a homemaker.

Surviving are two grandsons, William Studebaker and David Studebaker, both of Miami, Fla.; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Marty and Pat Fleming, Miami, Fla.; four sisters, Doris Hillis, Columbus, Marjorie Sparling, Culver, Betty Muehlhausen, Plymouth, and Virginia Kniesly, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.

A son, William G. Studebaker, and two sisters, Lucile Drompp and Clara Medland, preceded in death.

The Rev. Donald Ruhl will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in the cemetery chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Artrip

Services for Helen Artrip, 86, formerly of 1527 George St., will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died at 10:26 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1913, in Cass County, she was the daughter of George W. and Clara India Hoffman Burrows. On Aug. 7, 1932, in Cass County, she was married to Raymond Lawrence Artrip, who died Nov. 30, 1966.

Mrs. Artrip was a homemaker.

Surviving are a son, Raymond L. Artrip, Logansport; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Patricia Ruth Kloenne, preceded in death.

The Rev. William Art Maloney will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and a favorite charity.

Edith W. Gilsinger

Services for Edith W. Gilsinger, 78, of 6132 Hickory Ridge Court, Monticello, formerly of 110 E. Roselawn Drive in Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

She died at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Aug. 26, 1920, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Clyde E. and Mabel A. Strong. On July 14, 1946, she was married to Harold L. Gilsinger, who died March 7, 1981.

Mrs. Gilsinger was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. A graduate of Logansport High School, she worked for the Bell and GTE telephone companies, as well as the Jo-Ann Fabric Shop in the Logansport Mall.

She was a member and supporter of the Logansport Art Association and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and David Goodwin, Monticello; an aunt, Miss Olive Dederick, Monticello; three nieces and their spouses, Mrs. Margaret Smith, Logansport, Maurine and Charles Morlino, Seminole, Fla., and Karen and Jim Smith, West Lafayette; five great-nephews and three great-nieces.

Her sister, Rutheda Strong, one niece, Carolyn Bender, and one nephew, Jack Smith, preceded in death.

The Rev. Doug Mankell will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logansport Art Association and the American Heart Association.

Edward L. Stout

PERU -- Services for Edward L. Stout, 79, of 18 Golden Hills, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Charles Catholic Church.

He died at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Father Philip Haslinger will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home.

Lawrence E. Camp

ROCHESTER -- Graveside services for Lawrence E. Camp, 55, of 529 1/2 E. 11th St., will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.

He died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

There will be no visitation.

Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grover R. Layer

ROYAL CENTER -- Services for Grover R. Layer, 87, of Royal Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Caley United Methodist Church.

He died at 9:29 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 6, 1911, in Greentown, he was the son of Simon Peter and Mary Benson Layer. On Jan. 2, 1932, in the Grace EUB parsonage in Royal Center, he was married to Beulah DeWitt, who survives.

Mr. Layer was a retired machine operator for Switches, Inc. He was a member of Caley United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to church as well as teaching Sunday School. He also liked to collect clocks and attend antique auctions.

Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and June Layer, Seffner, Fla., and Everett and Gillea Layer, Royal Center; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Victor Sell, Royal Center; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Layer, Royal Center; a half brother, Ernest Gunter, Star City; a stepbrother, Edward Gunter, Royal Center; 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Ernest Layer, two brothers, one sister, and three half brothers preceded in death.

The Rev. Tom DeFries will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Royal Center.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, and one hour before services Monday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Caley United Methodist Church.
