Sharon L. Dudek
Dec. 30, 1936-June 9, 2001

MIDDLEBURY -- Sharon L. "Ma'' Dudek, 64, of 114 Krider Drive, formerly of 404 Illinois St., Bristol, died Saturday afternoon (June 9, 2001) at her residence.

She was born on Dec. 30, 1936, in Mishawaka to William H. and Emma Mae (Haller) Krueger Jr. She married Daniel R. Dudek, who preceded her in death in 1970.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ross (Cathy) Reber of Middlebury and Mrs. William (Christina) Drake-Bennett of Bristol; three sons, John J. (Christine A.) Dudek of Elkhart, Christopher J. (Melanie) Dudek of Middlebury and Robert E. (Laura) Dudek of Bristol; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald D. Stouder of Bristol.
One daughter, Cynthia Ann-Marie Dudek, and a sister, Zoe F. Molnar, preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bristol Chapel of the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Ron Spyker of Jefferson Brethren Church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Bristol.

Memorials may be given to the Sharon Dudek Burial Fund in care of the Bristol American Legion Post No. 143 in Bristol.

Mrs. Dudek graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend. She was retired from ESI Meat Co. in Bristol after 10 years of service. She was a member of the Bristol American Legion.

Edwin E. Haines
Oct. 25, 1923-June 8, 2001

ELKHART -- Edwin E. Haines, 77, of 1903 N. Silver Maple Lane, died at 3:35 a.m. Friday (June 8, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.

Mr. Haines, born Oct. 25, 1923, in Elkhart, was the son of Eugene E. and Edna (Leak) Haines and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Marguerite R. Reed in White Pigeon on April 15, 1945, and she died May 6, 1998.

He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Claude (Irene) Mosher Jr. of Rockford, Mich., Mrs. Eugene (Evelyn) Phillips and Mrs. Robert (Betty) Kiefer, both of Elkhart; and a brother, John R. of Dayton, Ohio. One brother, George R., died in 1989.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Ron Spyker with Jefferson Brethren Church in Goshen will officiate and burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Mr. Haines retired as a machinist foreman from Adams & Westlake Ltd. in 1982. he was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19 and enjoyed bowling, square dancing, fishing and traveling.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Willard R. Hood
July 3, 1938-June 3, 2001

ELKHART -- Willard R. Hood, 62, of 1519 11th St., died in his home at 2:31 p.m. Sunday (June 3, 2001).

There will be no visitation. A private family service will be held on Friday. Burial is at Rice Cemetery with the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hood was born in Moulton, Ala., on July 3, 1938, the son of Gerthia M. Hood. He is survived by a son, Junior Hood of California; and one brother, James H. (Sharon) Hood of Elkhart. A brother, Leon, is deceased.

He served in the U.S. National Guard and was employed as a painter for various recreational vehicle companies.

Gilbert C. Woodrum
Nov. 8, 1917-June 2, 2001

ELKHART -- Gilbert C. "Woody" Woodrum, 83, of 1023 W. Blaine Ave., died in his home at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (June 2, 2001).

Friends may call for two hours before the service at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. Burial and a military graveside service will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Mr. Woodrum was born in Big Sycamore Creek, W.Va., on Nov. 8, 1917, to Cecil L. and Stella A. (Farrell) Woodrum, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by two stepsons, Terrell and Terry Snider of Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Tina and Crystal Snider of Elkhart; a sister, Goldie Goodwin of Powleton, W.Va.; two brothers, Wilbur of Rand, W.Va., and Aris of Buffalo, W.Va.; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Mr. Woodrum retired as a production line worker at General Motors Corp. He enjoyed fishing and recreational walking.

Ray D. Sheaf
Jan. 3, 1918-June 1, 2001

ELKHART -- Ray D. Sheaf, 83, of 723 Middlebury St., died at 2:05 a.m. Friday (June 1, 2001) at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Sheaf was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Elkhart to Harold and Almeda (Kuehm) Sheaf, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and married Valerie M. D'Haeze on Nov. 25, 1939. She died Feb. 10, 1982.

He married Lura Mae Bruno in Elkhart on June 23, 1982, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Sharon) Hennessy and Mrs. James (Donna) Brown of Elkhart; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Adeline Ott of Elkhart; and a half brother, Kenneth Timpe of Elkhart. A son, Richard, is deceased.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, officiated by the Rev. John J. Overmyer. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.

Mr. Sheaf retired after 37 years with Federal Paperboard Co. Inc. He was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church, Goshen Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19, Bristol American Legion, Baugo Township Lions Club and the Mishawaka Moose Lodge.

Memorials may be given to Elkhart Community Hospice or United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.

Dorothy Jelinek
Dec. 21, 1905-May 28, 2001

ELKHART -- The family of Dorothy M. Jelinek will receive friends one hour before the service at 1 p.m. Friday at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, Mo. Burial will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond.

The Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Jelinek, 95, of 1900 Jeanwood Drive, died at 1 p.m. Monday (May 28, 2001) at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Dover, Mo., on Dec. 21, 1905, to Fritz and Ida (McQuillan) Roscher and married James Jelinek in Richmond in 1926. He died Sept. 16, 1941.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Shirley (Jan) Noble of Bristol; a son, Joseph (Mary) of Independence, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Shelton of Richmond and Sarah Stanley of Kansas City, Mo. A son, James; a daughter, Dorothy; three brothers, Richard, Henry and Ernest Roscher; and two sisters, Clara Chalopka and Myrtle Roscher, are deceased.

Mrs. Jelinek was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Richmond.
Memorials may be given to Serenity Hall in Elkhart.

Lloyd Boggs
Oct. 30, 1909-May 25, 2001

ELKHART -- Lloyd Boggs, 91, formerly of 57933 Kreighbaum, Elkhart, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday (May 25, 2001) at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Boggs was born on Oct. 30, 1909, to John Boggs and Lucretia Craiger in Letcher County, Ky. He married Dorthula Galloway on July 7, 1932, in Partridge, Ky. She died on Jan. 27, 1993.

Mr. Boggs is survived by three daughters, Kathy Crise of Elkhart, Rev. Evelyn Skaggs of Taylor, Mich., and Mrs. Floyd (Stella) Woodard of Campbellsville, Ky., as well as 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Rosie Boggs of Topeka, Kan. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Boggs, who died March 26, 1995, five brothers, and one sister.

Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A 10 a.m. graveside service will take place Wednesday at Prairie Street Cemetery with the Rev. Skaggs, Mr. Bogg's daughter, officiating.

Mr. Boggs was a retired custodian for Trailer Town Trailer Sales in Elkhart and prior to that was custodian for Hull Lift Truck Co., also in Elkhart.

Robert E. Chaffee
Dec. 14, 1934-May 24, 2001

UNION -- Robert E. Chaffee, 66, of 16294 Mason St., died in his home at 7:20 p.m. Thursday (May 24, 2001).

On Dec. 14, 1934, he was born in Elkhart to Robert H. and Ruth J. (Signs) Chaffee. He married Mary F. (Teen) Watson in Angola on Oct. 26, 1956, and she survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Iris F. Bedell of Mottville, Mrs. Tim (Donnita E.) Sickman of Elkhart, and Merry E. Schieber of Union; three sons, Robbin O. of Union, Rollen L. (Tina) of Three Rivers and Robert P. (Cindy) of Edwardsburg; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thomas (Wanda) of Elkhart, Walter P. of Union and David N. of White Pigeon; and one sister, Karen S. of White Pigeon.

A sister, Nancy Ann Chaffee, is deceased.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. (Indiana time) Sunday at the Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Zuber of Mishawaka Grace Brethren Church, will be at a later date.

Mr. Chaffee served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955 and later in the U.S. Navy Reserve for six years. He retired from Damon Corp. in Elkhart and was a member of Grace Brethren Church, where he helped build the pulpit, communion table and furniture and served as a board member and trustee.

Memorials may be given to the church or Sturgis Hospital Hospice.

Chester R. Wise
Feb. 16, 1905-May 24, 2001

ELKHART -- Friends of Chester R. Wise may call for two hours before the service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. David Ashley, Zion Missionary Church, will officiate, Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.

Mr. Wise, 96, formerly of 608 Aspenwald Ave., died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Eastlake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Wakarusa on Feb. 16, 1905, to Benjamin and Emma (Bickel) Wise and married Mildred M. Ott in Elkhart on Jan. 23, 1937. She died May 6, 1986.

Surviving are one son, Harold C. (Julie) Black; a daughter, Lorraine Witwer; and a sister, Fern Renaldi, all of Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Eleanor Jaworski, two sisters and two brothers are deceased.

Mr. Wise worked as a coal hauler for Calvert Coal Co. in Elkhart and retired after 20 years as a forklift driver at Federal Paperboard Co. Inc. He attended Zion Missionary Church and was a former member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge.

Stanley R. Bellows
Nov. 29, 1930-May 24, 2001

WHITE PIGEON -- Stanley R. Bellows, 70, of 12512 Idlewild St., died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday (May 24, 2001) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital.

Mr. Bellows was born in Bristol on Nov. 29, 1930, the son of Clayton and Ellen (Millington) Bellows, graduated from Bristol High School and married Barbara L. Bucher on June 17, 1950, in Dunlap.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Robin (Roxanne) Welker of Elkhart; and two grandchildren. One daughter, Sandra Bellows Foster , is deceased.

Friends may call two hours before the service at 3 p.m. (Indiana time) Saturday at the Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Lee Campbell with New Hope United Methodist Church in Elkhart will officiate and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bristol.

Mr. Bellows retired in 1985 as owner of Stan's Saw Sharpening Co. in Elkhart. Before that, he worked for New York Central Railroad and in the recreational vehicle industry. He was a member of Moose Lodge 599 and kept a winter residence in Palmetto, Fla., for the last six years.

Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.

RICHARD E. "SWEDE" PETERSON

Oct. 14, 1921-May 3, 2001

ELKHART -- Richard E. "Swede" Peterson, 79, of 53900 Pin Oak Circle, died at Elkhart General Hospital at 8:55 p.m. Thursday (May 3, 2001).

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Dr. Mark Fenstermacher with Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow at Rice Cemetery with a graveside service by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Peterson, son of Emil G. and Ada A. (Roth) Peterson, was born in Elkhart on Oct. 14, 1921, graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and attended Dennison University. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a captain in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

On May 28, 1949, he married Millie C. Rhoads in Elkhart. She survives with two sons, Steve (Luanne) and Mike (Dawn), both of Elkhart; one daughter, Mrs. Ron (Cathy) Blanchard of Cody, Wyo.; and eight grandchildren.

Mr. Peterson worked as a salesman for Elkhart Lumber & Sawmill and LaSalle-Deitch Co. before retiring in 1995 from Banks Lumber Co. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Elkhart Marines, a former member of the Elkhart Noon Optimist Club and Elkhart Breakfast Optimist Club and was active in supporting Native American causes.

Memorials may be given to the church or National Parkinson's Disease Foundation.

RAMON D. WALTERS

Dec. 4, 1953-April 30, 2001

ELKHART -- The family of Ramon D. Walters will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, Ark., where the service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Rod Chisholm will officiate and cremation will follow.

The Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Walters, 47, of 21234 S.R. 120, formerly of Gurdon, Ark., died at 7:50 a.m. Monday (April 30, 2001) in his home.

He was born in Gurdon on Dec. 4, 1953, to Roland and Pauline (Hunter) Walters and graduated from Gurdon High School in 1971. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Roland and Hazel Walters of Gurdon; a brother, Don of Blue Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Peggy Leamons of Curtis, Ark., and Mrs. James (Linda) Chisholm of Elkhart; and two stepbrothers, Jerry Hastings of Gurdon and Phillips Hastings of Harmony Grove, Ark.

Mr. Walters was employed by CSR Co. on Antigua Island until his illness in October.
