Fred W. Signs
Feb. 25, 1924-July 6, 2001

ELKHART -- Fred W. Signs, 77, of 27833 C.R. 24, formerly of Edwardsburg, died at 11:04 a.m. Friday (July 6, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on Feb. 25, 1924, in Vistula to Burton F. and Nettie (Rhodes) Signs. He married Lucille L. Rose on July 3, 1947, in Lexington, Ky.

She survives with two sons, Danny N. (Toni) Signs of Santa Maria, Calif., and Stanley D. (Barbara) Signs of Edwardsburg; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Drudge of Elkhart; and one brother, Burton (Ethel) Signs of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters and one brother.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Elkhart Chapel of the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dennis Olsen will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

Mr. Signs retired in 1981 after 37 years at Miles Laboratories Inc., where he was a maintenance foreman. He retired as a purchasing agent.

He was a life member of the DAV Chapter 19, Moose Lodge No. 599 and the Eagles No. 395, all in Elkhart. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II.

Memorials may be given to the United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.

Leonore M. Booth
Dec. 2, 1906-Aug. 8, 2001

ELKHART -- Leonore M. Booth, 94, of 3920 E. Jackson Blvd., died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Elkhart Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Pawtucket, R.I., to the Rev. Charles and Julia (Turner) Mitchell on Dec. 2, 1906, and graduated in 1924 from Orland High School and in 1929 from Hillsdale (Mich.) College. She married Dr. Frank R. Booth in Hillsdale on June 10, 1929, and he died Aug. 12, 1979.

Mrs. Booth is survived by a son, Frank R. (Sharon) Booth II of Elkhart, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A son, Martin A.; and one sister, Ruth Anderson, are deceased.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place, and a private family graveside service will be at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Orland. The Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Booth was a member of the Four Arts Club and Elkhart Concert Club and the last surviving charter member of the Michiana Kennel Club. She was a founding member of the Wire Fox Terrier Club of the Central States and attended several dog shows around the world with her husband, who served as a judge.

She was past president of the National Wives Auxiliary of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Memorials may be given to the Midwest Museum of American Art, Elkhart County Humane Society or a charity of choice.

MABEL F. OLINGHOUSE
Dec. 25, 1922-Aug. 8, 2001

ELKHART -- Friends of Mabel F. Olinghouse may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Saturday for the graveside service at 1 p.m. at Prairie Street Cemetery. The Rev. Mary A. Stewart will officiate.

Mrs. Olinghouse, 78, of Elkhart, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.

On Dec. 25, 1922, she was born in Terre Haute to Leslie and Emma (Fritz) Anderson. She married R. Darold Olinghouse on Feb. 14, 1942, and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Darla Welles of Porterville, Calif., and Jacqueline Corwin of Mishawaka; and two sisters, Dorothy Sordeam of Hanover and Mrs. Richard (Norma) Zink of Homewood, Ill.

Mrs. Olinghouse and her husband co-owned Olinghouse Pools in Elkhart. She enjoyed photography, gourmet cooking, embroidery and outdoor wildlife, especially birds.

ROBERT E. (BOB) LEE SR.
Jan. 4, 1935-Aug. 8, 2001

UNION -- Friends of Robert E. Lee Sr. may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (Indiana times) Sunday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Steven Underwood will officiate and burial will be at Prairie Street Cemetery.

Mr. Lee, 66, of 69516 Union Road, died at 3:25 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8, 2001) at Elkhart General Hospital.

He was born in Fort Wayne on Jan. 4, 1935, to Edward J. and Emma L. (Dinius) Lee and served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his companion, Rosemary Powers of Elkhart; three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Connie) Beam of Elkhart, Mrs. Wayne (Brenda) Phillips of Lecanto, Fla., and Theresa Lee of Mishawaka; two sons, Robert E. Jr. of Elkhart and Edward (Stacie) of Union; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard and Arnold of Elkhart and Dale and Thomas of Union; and three sisters, Beatrice Garber of Elkhart, Karen Poth of Cassopolis and Mary Lou Godley of Mishawaka.
One granddaughter and a brother, Donald, are deceased.

Mr. Lee retired as owner of Lee Manufacturing Co. in Elkhart. He was a former member of Moose Lodge 599 and enjoyed attending flea markets, gardening and camping.
Memorials may be given to the Lay Diabetic Society of Elkhart County.

DOLLY MAE WHICKER
July 1, 1914-Aug. 9, 2001

ELKHART -- Dolly Mae Whicker, 87, Rosewood Terrace, formerly of 2024 Prairie Street, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 9, 2001).

She was born in Millersburg on July 1, 1914, the daughter of Eugene and Lulu (Schlotterback) Swinehart, and married Clarence A. Whicker in Peru, Ind., on June 17, 1937. He died Sept. 24, 1954.

Mrs. Whicker is survived by four sons, Harold (Vicky), Michael and Charles (Nancy), all of Elkhart, and Paul (Monica) of Osceola; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Dolly Mae) Olsen of Leeg City, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul and Harold Swinehart of Tucson, Ariz. Three sons, one grandchild, four brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Elkhart Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

Mrs. Whicker was a homemaker.
Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.

RICHARD D. KELLY
March 31, 1959-Aug. 10, 2001

ELKHART --Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Elkhart Chapel of the Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and two hours prior to the service at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church for Richard D. "Rich'' Kelly.

The Rev. Larry Kurtz, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Mark Kloess of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, will officiate. Burial will be in Prairie Street Cemetery.
Mr. Kelly, 42, of 60907 Ridgepoint Court, died at noon Friday (Aug. 10, 2001) in the Rapid City (S.D.) Regional Hospital from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident.

He was born on March 31, 1959, in Lafayette to Dale E. and Ramona (Clem) Kelly. He married Lori A. Swinehart on Oct. 12, 1985, in Elkhart.

She survives with one daughter, Elizabeth, and one son, Patrick D., both at home; two brothers, Mike (Claire) Kelly of Hartland, Wis., and Ed (Barbara) Kelly of Kendallville; one sister, Kathy Kelly of New Orleans; and his parents, of Elkhart.

Mr. Kelly was a sales representative for Renegade Custom Coaches and Trailers for the past six months. Prior to that, he was in sales for Starcraft RV for 12 years.

Mr. Kelly was an accomplished athlete and avid sports fan. He played football, track and baseball at Concord High School. He was named all-state in football his senior year at Concord, from where he graduated in 1978. He went on to play football on a scholarship at Manchester College for a year, then he went on to Indiana University.

Mr. Kelly had served as sports director for WKAM radio in Goshen, where he also had his own radio show and was a disc jockey. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, where he played on the softball team. He enjoyed traveling and all outdoor activities.

Memorials may be given to the Faith United Methodist Church or the Rich Kelly Memorial Fund.

Vickie Bleau
Feb. 12, 1932-June 29, 2004

Friends of Vivian A. "Vickie" Bleau may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Harry Gascho, 91, of 1225 Greencroft Drive, died at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (June 29, 2004) at Greencroft. He was born March 8, 1913, in Wood River, Neb., to Joseph O. and Jacobina (Roth) Gascho. He married Elva F. Newswanger on Feb. 28, 1946, in Cottage City, Md. SHERRI R. DALRYMPLE
March 20, 1963-Aug. 15, 2001

ELKHART -- Sherri R. Dalrymple, 38, of 29560 C.R. 108, died at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 15, 2001) at Goshen General Hospital.

She was born March 20, 1963, in Baltimore to M. Joe and Thelma L. (Lindsey) Gable and married Todd E. Dalrymple in Bristol on Dec. 1, 1990.

Mrs. Dalrymple is survived by her husband; two sons, Brian J. and Brent W., at home; her mother of Elkhart; a sister, Mrs. Chris (Sharon) Brace of Elkhart; three half sisters, Rita Gable, Mrs. Mike (Sheila) Dofflemyre and Mrs. Gary (Terri) Pittenger; and a half brother, Ted Gable, all of San Francisco.

Her father died in 1998.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Peggy Boltz with Marcellus United Methodist Church in Michigan will officiate and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Bristol.

Mrs. Dalrymple worked in the human resource department at Louisiana Pacific Co. in Middlebury.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

Frances Jane Phillips
April 9, 1906-Aug. 16, 2001

GOSHEN -- Frances Jane Phillips, 95, of 1225 Greencroft Drive, formerly of Bristol, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 16, 2001) at Greencroft Terraces Health Care.

She was born in Hamden, N.Y., on April 9, 1906, the daughter of E.E. and Lucy (James) Brant, and married William D. Phillips on Mar. 25, 1930. He died Oct. 15, 1972.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by a son, Charles D. (Beth) of Bristol; two daughters, Mrs. Dale L. (Norma) Yoder of Goshen and Barbara Evans of Bristol; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Four brothers, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are deceased.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bristol Chapel of Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bristol United Methodist Church. The Rev. Don Brenneman will officiate and burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips, along with her husband, founded Phillips & Son Irrigation in Bristol in 1947. She was a member of Bristol United Methodist Church for 71 years, as well as a member of Vistula Grange. She was a former 4-H leader in Washington Township and founded the Zion Homemakers Club in 1945.

Memorials may be given to Goshen General Hospital Hospice or the church building fund.
