Velma Willingham
Feb. 13, 1903-July 4, 2004
MISHAWAKA -- Velma Mae "Monie" Willingham, 101, formerly of 126 Kline St., Mishawaka, died at her residence, Shanhower Group Home in Mishawaka, at 5:30 a.m. Sunday (July 4, 2004).

She was born Feb. 13, 1903, in Scottsville, Ky., to Andrew J. and Biddie Ann (Lamb) Shores. She married Phineas Willingham on Dec. 25, 1924, in Scottsville. He died in 1983.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo (Byron) Boyer of Mishawaka; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one son, Donald I. Willingham; two sisters, Clara Haloran and Alma Perry; and four brothers, Cartha, Roy, Eldon and Clifton Shores.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman-Inman Funeral Home, 1109 Lincolnway West, Osceola, where the service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. David Ottsen will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Willingham was formerly employed at Whitehouse Manufacturing in Mishawaka, where she was a power machine operator, retiring in 1968.

She loved to travel and camp.

Memorials may be given to Walkers Chapel Methodist Church, c/o Box 21, Auburn, KY 42206, or the Hospice of St. Joseph County.

George Wixson
May 28, 1919-July 3, 2004
GOSHEN -- George Robert Wixson, 85, of AmeriCare of Goshen, formerly of 15414 C.R. 44, died at his residence at 6:05 p.m. Saturday (July 3, 2004) after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 28, 1919, in North Liberty to Floyd J. and Alma M. (Martin) Wixson. He married Phyllis June Sparrow on Sept. 3, 1949, in Syracuse. She died Sept. 23, 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie L. Hale of Goshen; two sons, Ronald L. Wixson of Goshen and Gary A. Wixson of Elkhart; and one sister, Olga Jean Willis, and two brothers, Keith LaMar (Christina) Wixson and Paul Lowell Wixson, all of Goshen.

He was preceded in death by two sons, George R. Wixson Jr. and Kerry Dale Sparrow; two sisters, Omah Barnett and Faye Wixson; and two brothers, Gail Wixson and Kenneth Wixson.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen, where the service will be at noon Wednesday. Pastor Carldean Marrifield will officiate. Burial will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery.

Mr. Wixson was retired. He served in World War II and was a member of the DAV in Goshen.

Memorials may be given to the Elkhart County Cancer Society.

Hubert Gorsuch
April 5, 1911-July 3, 2004
FORT WAYNE -- Hubert E. Gorsuch, 93, of 1010 W. Washington Center Road, Fort Wayne, died at 10:10 a.m. Saturday (July 3, 2004) at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne, where he had been a resident since September 2003. He had been in failing health the last few months.

He was born April 5, 1911, in Goshen to Lloyd and Josephine (Ferguson) Gorsuch. He married Mary K. Wissinger on Oct. 15, 1939, in Goshen. She died Nov. 28, 2003.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda (David) Griffith of Fort Wayne; one son, Phil (Helen) Gorsuch of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, 1911 S. Main St., Goshen, until the service at noon. The Rev. Pam Kling, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Goshen, will officiate. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Mr. Gorsuch was a lifetime Goshen resident. He had farmed with his father in Jefferson Township in his early life. He also drove a school bus for Jefferson School. He worked 43 years for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1981. After retirement, he spent winters with his wife in Zephyrhills, Fla.

He was a 1929 graduate of Goshen High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Goshen, the Maplecrest Country Club and Goshen Elks Lodge No. 798.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association, Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

Earl Lehman
Feb. 8, 1916-July 2, 2004
GOSHEN -- Earl M. Lehman, 88, of 1801 Greencroft Drive, died at his home at 2 a.m. Friday (July 2, 2004). He had been ill since early May.

He was born Feb. 8, 1916, in Croghan N.Y., to Joseph W. and Mollie (Zehr) Lehman. He married Phyllis Maltby on Aug. 9, 1947, in South Rutland, N.Y.

She survives with four sons, John (Brenda) Lehman of Angola, Clark (Rosario) Lehman of Homestead, Fla., Sidney (Jo Marie) Lehman of Goshen and Stephen (Gail) Lehman of Wakarusa; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Pearl (Perry) Farney of Lowville, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Grau and Mildred Zehr, and two brothers, Elmer and Jonathon Lehman.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Meetinghouse at Greencroft until the service at 11 a.m. Chaplain Dee Swartz will officiate. A private burial service will be in Little Pine Cemetery, Elkhart.

Mr. Lehman had lived in this area since 1956. He had worked at Mennonite Mutual Aid, Goshen, in insurance appraisal. He also owned and managed Pine Creek Mobile Home Park and was a bookkeeper at Lehman & Zehr Lumber Co.

He was a member of First Mennonite Church, Nappanee. He graduated from Lowville Academy and attended Goshen College. He was a member of Gideons International.

Memorials may be given to First Mennonite Church of Nappanee or Greencroft.

Ruth Birk
ELKHART -- Ruth Birk, 68, of 3124 Lawton Ave., died at 6 a.m. Sunday (July 4, 2004) from natural causes at Elkhart General Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home.

Zachary Bontrager
GOSHEN -- Zachary Ryan Bontrager died soon after birth on Thursday (July 1, 2004) at the IU Medical Center in Indianapolis.

He is survived by his parents, Joel R. and Sarah (Richardson) Bontrager, 502 James St., Goshen; his maternal grandparents, Vickie Richardson of Goshen and Lee and Barb Richardson of Mishawaka; his paternal grandparents, Dave and Sue Bontrager of Goshen; and great-grandparents, Larry and Barbara Renner of Goshen, Andy Richardson of Greencastle, Carl and Nancy Landreth of Mangalia, Calif., and Bob and Peg Ochs of Bradenton, Fla.

Calling will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church's Coucker Hall. A graveside service will follow at 7:45 p.m. at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Michael McCant, assistant pastor of Downtown at 808 Church, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis.

ROBERT D. WINE
Robert D. Wine, 83, of 2550 Fishing Creek Valley Road, formerly of Elkhart, died at 12:03 p.m. Tuesday (July 6, 2004) in Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pa. He was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Elkhart, to Cecil Charles and Dorcas Juanita (Dyer) Wine. He married Irma Louise Keller on March 30, 1943, in Elkhart. [cut off]

FANNIE FRY
Fannie Fry, 92, of 225 N. State St., died at 12:05 p.m. Thursday (July 8, 2004) at LaGrange Community Hospital. She was born June 17, 1912, in Wild Horse, Colo., to Jacob J. and Anna (Schrock) Gingerich. She married Daniel A. Fry on Dec. 22, 1936, in Shipshewana. He died Aug. 24, 1994. [cut off]

PAMELA JO KEHOE
Pamela Jo Kehoe, 34, of White Street, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday (July 3, 2004) from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident in Minnesota. She was born April 8, 1970, in Elkhart, to Richard and Ruth Sue (Quier) Spesshardt. On Oct. 14, 2000, she married Dale A. Kehoe II. [cut off]

Steven J. Smith, 61, of Valley View Health Care Center, formerly of 1720 W. Indiana Ave., died at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday (July 7, 2004) in Elkhart General Hospital.
