Jerry R. Mattick
Feb. 23, 1949 - Feb. 2, 2006
Jerry Ray Mattick, 56, Anderson, died Feb. 2, 2006, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Terre Haute, and was an Anderson resident for 18 years.
He was employed at the Anderson Post Office where he will be missed by his co-workers.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart after being wounded three times.
He is survived by his two brothers, Victor Mattick and Emerson Mattick, both of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Artie (Lamb) Mattick; and five sisters, Cleta Ball, Bonnie Stultz, Rosemary Brune, Carol Lilly and Ruth Conrad.
Per his request, there will be a remembrance ceremony only at the Officer's Club at 2300 Crystal St., Anderson, IN 46012 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Cremation will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are being handled by Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel.
Martha L. Anderson
Feb. 24, 1922 - Feb. 1, 2006
CHESTERFIELD - Martha L. (Howell) Anderson, 83, Chesterfield, passed away Feb. 1, 2006, at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson after an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Muncie, the daughter of Pearl (Harless) and Earl Howell, and lived most of her life in the Muncie-Chesterfield area.
She was employed by Ball Brothers in Muncie and was a lunch lady at Chesterfield Elementary School.
She was a member of Chesterfield Christian Church where she was active in the Naomi Circle, the Electra Circle and a member of Madison County Lady Shrine Club.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Jerald "Jerry/Gene" Anderson of Chesterfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Badders) and husband Ronald Geiger, and Trilla (Anderson) and Michael Noland, all of Chesterfield; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cathy Badders of Twenty-nine Palms, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Cherie (Geiger) and husband Kent McCune, Troy and wife Teresa Geiger, Chad and wife Wendy Geiger, Brandon Noland, Lindsey Noland, Brean Badders and Kyle Badders; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany McCune, Brandi McCune, Allison McCune, Tiara Geiger, Trevor Geiger, Shaylin Wyatt, Jimmy Gonterman and Jesse Diaz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl (Harless) Howell Bush and Earl Howell; one sister, Mary Clark; and five brothers, Bobby Howell; Raymond Howell; Harold Howell, John Howell and Paul Howell
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Chesterfield Christian Church with the Rev. Mike Weber officiating, assisted by Ned Clark. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Chesterfield Christian Church.
Jerry V. Wills
Feb. 11, 1932 - Feb. 2, 2006
TUSCUMBIA, Ala. - Jerry Verl Wills, 73, former Pendleton resident, died Feb. 2, 2006.
He was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Anderson, the son of Verl and Ethel Wills.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Soley.
He was a retired employee of Delco Remy in Anderson.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS and the American Legion.
Survivors include sons, Kevin and wife Bertha Wills and their daughter, Vanessa of Waikoloa, Hawaii, and Daniel Wills of Eagle, Colo.; and daughter, Kelly and husband Brett Herron of Tuscumbia, Ala.
Jerry was preceded in death by Carolyn Wills; his parents, Verl and Ethel Wills; his sister, Joyce Sample; and a grandson, Sean Wills.
Weather permitting, graveside services and burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton. (Alternate location will be in the Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton.)
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Lahm Chapel.
Hugh W. Jones
May 11, 1928 - Feb. 4, 2006
PENDLETON - Hugh W. “Jonesy” Jones, 77, died Feb. 4, 2006, at St. John’s Medical Center in Anderson, after a brief illness.
He was born May 11, 1928, in Pendleton and was a lifelong Madison County resident.
For over 50 years, he worked as a bartender and was employed at various locations throughout Madison County.
In 1946, he graduated from Pendleton High School.
He was a veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a life member of American Legion 117 in Pendleton and VFW Post 266. He was a member of AMVETS 0026 in Pendleton and the 40 & 8. He enjoyed playing cards, shooting billiards and shuffleboard.
Survivors include his wife, Norma (Harkes) Jones of Pendleton, whom he married July 24, 1966, in Pendleton; four sons, Scott B. Jones of Anderson, and Bill Jones, Greg and wife Rene Jones and Steve and wife Sherry Hoskins, all of Pendleton; five grandchildren, Shay Hoskins and Shawn Hoskins, both of Pendleton, Saul Jones of Anderson, Blair Jones of Ohio and Haley Jones of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Drs. Elliott, Wright, Hill and Molina and the fifth- and sixth-floor nursing staff at St. John’s Medical Center.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Bernice (Pritchard) Jones; and three sisters, Phyllis Brinduse, Margaret Savill and Halcie Smith.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service, 229 S. Rangeline Road, Anderson, officiated by the Rev. Claude Creel. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home. Cremation will take place.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Robert Duncan
Sept. 13, 1911 - Feb. 3, 2006
Robert J. Duncan, 94, of Anderson, passed away Feb. 3, 2006, at St. John’s Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 13, 1911, in Elwood, the son of Squire and Bertha Duncan. He lived in this area all of his life.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart.
Robert retired in 1980 from the Indiana Department of Correction after 44 years of service.
He was a member of Elks Lodge 209 where he was a past exulted ruler and a past district deputy. He was a member of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 681, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine Temple of Indianapolis, Madison County Shrine Club and American Legion Post 127.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Duncan of Anderson; and many close friends and neighbors.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Lloyd Lambert officiating. Entombment will take place at East Maplewood Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be may to the Humane Society or to the Christian Center in Anderson.
E. Pauline Gunkel
Nov. 18, 1908 - Feb. 08, 2006
SYRACUSE - E. Pauline (Tucker) Gunkel, 97, died Feb. 8, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse, following an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 18, 1908, in Tipton, Ind.
She had been employed at the cafeteria at Delco Remy Division of General Motors for 15 years and also, for a couple of years, at the YMCA café.
She was a member of North Webster Church of God; Tippecanoe Township Extension Club; and the Barbee Hoosier Conservation Club. She enjoyed living at the Chapman House in Warsaw for her last year. She was crowned Valentine Queen this last year at the Chapman House.
Survivors include her daughter, Judith and husband David Pickering of Syracuse; her son, Richard Allen and wife Jean Gunkel of Harmston, Lincolnshire, U.K.; former daughter-in-law, Tanya Gunkel of New Mexico; four grandchildren, Chris Harmon of Syracuse, Pamela and husband Kevin Bies of Vero Beach, Fla., Kelly and husband Jon Grasle of Portland, Ore., and Richard Allen Gunkel II and wife Connie of North Kingston, R.I.; four great- grandchildren, Ashlee Lestor, Megan Grasle, Mark Grasle and Stephanie Gunkel; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her husband, whom she married in 1925, Arbary Wayne Gunkel who died in 1987; her parents, Claud and Edna Blanche (Glass) Tucker; and five siblings.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by Pastor Sue Jones. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday South Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.
Jack E. Delaplane
Jan. 29, 1921 - Feb. 9, 2006
ELWOOD - Jack E. Delaplane, 85, Elwood, died Feb. 9, 2006, at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Elwood, after a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 29, 1921 in Anderson, and was a lifelong Madison County resident. He retired from Nicholson File in 1970.
He was a member of First Nazarene Church of Elwood and attended Southdale Church of the Nazarene. He loved to camp.
He is survived by his wife, Alice F. (Flowers) Delaplane, whom he married in 1990; two children, Tommie Ann and husband Ron Bell and Garry E. and wife Pamela Delaplane, all of Anderson; two stepdaughters, Sharon and husband Larry Shallenberger of Elwood and Diana and husband Terry Lykins of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepsons, James and wife Shirley Rittenhouse of Burlington, Ted Rittenhouse and partner Mary Noel of Elwood, and Danny and wife Gena Rittenhouse of Elwood; four grandchildren, Cammie and husband Chris Slaven, Alicia Delaplane, Kasey Bell and Kiley Bell; 11 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna (Harl) Delaplane; his parents, Otto C. and Maude (Anderson) Delaplane; three brothers; and five sisters.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, South Chapel, with Pastor Kenneth Horning and the Rev. Max Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour before service Monday at the South Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene of Elwood or to Southdale Church of the Nazarene.
Betty Jane Stine
Dec. 6, 1924 - Feb. 11 2006
FOUNTAINTOWN - Betty Jane (Brizendine) Stine 81, died Feb. 11, 2006, at Hancock Regional Hospital.
For 29 years, she worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Fountaintown; retiring in 1985.
Survivors include her son, Gordon L. (Ruth) Stine; daughter, Brenda D. (Bob) Hook; brothers, Howard Brizendine and Raymond Brizendine; sisters, Lola Spegal and Glendora Beyers; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Stine.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Erlewein Mortuary, 1484 W. U.S. 40 in Greenfield. Burial will take place at Fountaintown Cemetery.
Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Jane Moon
Oct. 19, 1921 - Feb. 11, 2006
NOBLESVILLE - Mary Jane (Brooks) Moon, 84, died Feb. 11, 2006, at Riverwalk Village.
She retired in 1984 from Boeinger Manheim.
Survivors include her daughter, Pam (husband Boyd) Wende; three sons, Arthur “Art” (wife Becky) Moon, Tim (wife Nancy) Moon of Anderson, and Mike K. (wife Pam) Moon; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Walter K. Moon, died in 1984.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home in Noblesville. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with an Order of Eastern Star service at 8 p.m.
Nancy A. Knopp
Sept. 29, 1934 - Feb. 12, 2006
ALEXANDRIA - Nancy A. Knopp, 71, went to be with her Heavenly Father Feb. 12, 2006, from Community Hospital Anderson, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1934, in Elwood, the daughter of Williamson M. and Hazel G. (Eaton) Knopp. She had resided in Alexandria since 1946.
Nancy was a 1952 graduate of Alexandria High School. During high school, she was a member of the Alexandria Marching Tigers Band, which took first place in the state band contest in Indianapolis.
She had worked for the Glove Corp. and IGA-Thriftway Market, both formerly of Alexandria. In 1995, she retired from Thompson Electronics in Marion, after 30 years of employment.
She was a member of Florida Station Church of God. She was also a member of Royal Neighbors of America, formerly of Alexandria. Nancy lovingly cared for her parents during their elder years. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading, horse racing and the time she spent with family and friends.
Survivors include her brother, Howard (Carolyn) Knopp of Alexandria; two nephews, Brian (Diana) Knopp of Alexandria, and Jason Knopp and his fiancee, Holly Bir, both of Alexandria; four great-nephews, Mason, Dillan, Lucas and Nathan Knopp; his aunt, Mildred Goettel of Alexandria; and several cousins.
Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel G. (Eaton) Knopp, in 1975; and her father, Williamson M. Knopp, in 1988.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, officiated by Pastor Jerry Hilligoss of Florida Station Church of God. Interment will follow at Vinson Memorial Cemetery, Summitville
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made, through the funeral home, to the activity fund of the Alexandria Care Center.

Polly Ann (Jeune) Gray, 50, Anderson, died Feb. 10, 2006, at ManorCare Health Services.
She will be cremated and burial at a later date in Kentucky.
