Shirley A. Hardacre

Services for Shirley A. Hardacre, 68, Logansport, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died unexpectedly at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 12, 1939, in Star City, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Athlean Layman Conrad. On Dec. 21, 1964, in Logansport, she was married to Everett Merle Hardacre, who preceded in death Jan. 21, 1974.

In 2004, Shirley retired from Small Parts, where she had worked as a machine operator for many years.

She loved horses and motorcycles and enjoyed watching late night television.

Surviving are daughter, Laressa Roberson and her husband, Joe, Flora; one granddaughter, Jennifer Hardacre and her companion, Jerrel Brubaker, North Olmstead, Ohio; one brother, Gary Conrad, Gowanda, N.Y.; one sister, Marianne McKenzie, Henagar, Ala.; two great-grandchildren; six nieces; and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Pastor Teri White will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mary Mildred ‘Millie’ Merritt

Services for Mary Mildred “Millie” Merritt, 82, Logansport, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

She died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born Dec. 5, 1925, in Shawneetown, Ill., she was the daughter of Ray and Minerva Short Combs. She was married Aug. 2, 1942, in Jackson, Tenn., to Charles Henry Merritt, who preceded in death April 28, 1966.

Millie retired from Essex and was also a former cook for Elk’s Lodge 66 and Eagles Lodge 323.

She was a member of Elk’s Lodge 66.

Surviving are daughters, Margaret Cates and Janet Hagene, both of Logansport; sons, Jerry Merritt, Columbus, Ohio, and Sam Merritt and wife, Donna, Coal City, Ill.; brother, Charles “Bud” Combs and wife, Carolyn, Lucerne; sister, Eva Long and husband, Raymond, Haleyville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death are two daughters, Helen Cates and Sharon McGee; two grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother.

The Rev. William Art Maloney will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Elk’s services will be held 5 p.m.

Jane S. Waddle New

MENTONE - Services for Jane S. Waddle New, 72, Burket, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in King Memorial Home.

She died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in her residence.

Pastor Mark Zerkel will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Palestine Cemetery, Palestine.

Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Robert 'Bob' Huff

DELPHI - Services for Robert “Bob” Huff, 81, Delphi, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Abbot Funeral Home.

He died at 9:25 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in his home.

The Rev. Ed Selvidge will officiate at the services. Private family burial will be held at Paint Creek Cemetery in Camden.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Camden First Baptist Church.

Lynn Thomsen

BROAD RIPPLE - A celebration of life for Lynn Thomsen, 50, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center, Broad Ripple with a gathering starting at noon.

She passed away at 10:45 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at the IU Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Born July 30, 1957, in Lafayette, she lived with her parents in Delphi, until her graduation from Delphi Community High School in 1975.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA from Herron School of Art in Indianapolis.

She went on to teach at Marion College, IUPUI, St. Richard’s School, and for the past seven years she chaired and taught in the art department at Park Tudor School.

Lynn was a landscape artist, and concentrated on scenes of rural Indiana. She has works hanging at the IU Medical Center, The Anderson Hospital, Women’s Wing, and in the permanent collection of Indiana artists at the Indiana State Museum, along with many private collections. Lynn was the court room artist at the 1992 Mike Tyson Rape Trial where her drawings were aired on Channel 6 News and ESPN. She currently has a 22 piece show at the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts, Loftus House Gallery, 101 St. Francis Dr., Mount St. Francis. The exhibit will run through March 1.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Hull; her stepson Clifford Jr.; her parents Cliff and Jean Thomsen, Delphi; one brother, Eric and wife, Carole, Delphi; one sister, Teresa Holeman and husband, John, Charleston, S.C.; four nieces; Amber Cleavenger and husband, Kyle, Colburn, Cassandra Rowley and husband, J.T., Erienne Thomsen, Terre Haute, and Justine Holeman, Charleston, S.C.; as well as three great-nephews and innumerable, wonderful friends and colleagues.

Persons wishing to express their condolences may do so by recycling.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Coburn Place Safe Haven, 604 E. 38th St., Indianapolis IN 46205.

Esther A. Costello

Services for Esther A. Costello, 72, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

She died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in Chase Center.

Born April 8, 1935, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John and Libreata Caputo Rose.

A homemaker, “Queen Esther” enjoyed bingo, crafts and visiting with family and friends.

Surviving are four sons, Kim Costello and wife, Kim, Logansport, Dave Costello and wife, Sue, Germany, Jim Costello and wife, Terri, and Brian Costello and wife, Carol, all of Logansport; one brother, Pat Rose, Logansport; two sisters, Jean Delp and Matilda Rose, both of Logansport; several nieces, nephews and cousins; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceding in death were one daughter, Dorothy Costello Winegardner; one grandson, Kylan Ashlan Costello; two brothers, Joe Rose and Lawrence Rose; and one sister, Mary Quaglio.

Father Jeff Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. with Deacon Juan Rodriguez officiating.

Lois Kathren Bowers

ROCHESTER - Lois Kathren Bowers, 81, Rochester, died at 12:01 a.m. today in Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester.

Arrangements are pending at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home in Rochester.

Ruby E. Gibbs

Ruby E. Gibbs, 77, Logansport, died at 1:56 a.m. today in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Arrangements are pending at Marocco Funeral Chapel.

Mark Dinius

A family funeral was held in California on Nov. 21 for Mark Dinius, 60, Valencia, Calif., formerly of Logansport.

He passed away Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, due to complications of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Mark, the son of Maxine and Francis Dinius, was born in Logansport and graduated from Logansprt High School in 1965.

Mark and his family moved to Arizona in 1980 and ultimately to California in 1988.

A Vietnam veteran, Mark worked in purchasing management for more than 30 years. He was an avid runner, golfer and devoted Notre Dame fan.

Mark is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara; two adult daughters; his mother, Maxine, Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, Merle Coulson Jr., Texas.

Mark supported research for a cure for ALS. Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory at www.augiesquest.org

Richard Dudley Pitcock

GALVESTON - Services for Richard Dudley Pitcock, 68, Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Murray-Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston.

He died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, in his residence.

Born June 5, 1939, in Massillon, Ohio, he was the son of Reason D. and Lucille E. Thomas Pitcock. He was married Dec. 18, 1982, in Galveston, to Janet Susanne “Susie” Warner Thomas Pitcock, who survives.

A 1957 graduate of Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio, Richard retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1994 after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Massillon, Ohio, a member of the Pioneer Auto Club, a Charter Member of Chrysler 300 Club, and was active in the Kokomo Automotive Heritage Museum.

He enlisted in 1959 in the U.S. Air Force and served part of the time at Bunker Hill Air Force Base. He was discharged in 1963.

Also surviving are daughters, Lynne Walker, Fort Wayne, and Sheri Pitcock, Canton, Ohio; stepson, Steve and wife, Carla Thomas, Walton; stepdaughter, Dena Packard, Kewanna; stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Thomas, Walton; granddaughter, Breanna Walker, Fort Wayne; and stepgrandsons, John, Drew, Matthew and Owen Thomas, Walton.

Preceding in death are his parents, one stepson, Wesley Thomas, and one stepgrandson, Zachary Packard.

The Rev. Warren K. Purcell will officiate. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walton Volunteer Fire Dept., 110 S. Depot St., Walton IN 46994, and to the Galveston Volunteer Fire Dept., 101 East Jackson, St., Galveston IN 46932.

Beth Ann Davis

Services for Beth Ann Davis, 48, Logansport, will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Gundrum Funeral Home.

She died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in her residence.

Born Jan. 21, 1959, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Ron Schlabach and Carol Fleck.

She was married Dec. 5, 2003, in Logansport, to Joseph C. Davis.

She was an attendant at Logansport State Hospital.

Beth was a member of the AFSCME Union. She loved traveling, her dogs and spending time with her grandchildren. Beth was a 1977 graduate of Logansport High School.

Surviving are husband, Joseph C. Davis, Logansport; son, Derek Schnepp, Logansport; daughter, Sarah Schnepp, St. Joe, Mo.; mother, Carol Edwards, Logansport; father, Ron Schlabach, Logansport; brother, Brian D. Schlabach, and wife, Rosemary, Logansport; step-children, David Davis, Logansport; Jeanette Pavey, and husband, Troy, Peru; Joseph E. Davis, and wife, Jennifer, Logansport; grandchildren, Brooklyn Schnepp and Raven Thompson; seven step grandchildren.

The Rev. Scott Ellison will officiate at the services.

Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.

Jean E. Delp

A private burial will be held for Jean E. Delp, 78, Logansport.

She passed away at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in the Emergency Room at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Born July 2, 1930, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John and Libreata Caputo Rose. She was married Nov. 6, 1948, to William “Jack” Delp, who preceded in death Aug. 22, 2001.

A homemaker, Jean enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, mushroom hunting and cooking. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She loved being with her family, especially watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are sons, Richard J. (Bev) Delp, Logansport, and William “Bob” (Linda) Delp, Logansport; sister, Matilda “Tillie” Rose, Logansport; grandchildren, Mike, Jack, Bob, Chris, Shalina and Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sons, Jack Eugene Delp and Kenneth Lee Delp; two sisters; and three brothers.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kylan Costello Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Cass County Community Foundation, PO Box 441, Logansport IN 46947.

Kroeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
