Jessie M. Tillman

March 2, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Jessie M. Tillman, 75, died, following an extended illness, at her residence, 6162 S. 875 W. Claypool, on Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at 8:45 p.m. Jessie had moved to Claypool from Plymouth 42 years ago.

She was born in Plymouth on Aug. 1, 1928, the daughter of Jesse and Estella Kyser Markley. She was a 1946 graduate of West High School.

On Dec. 15, 1947, in Nappanee, Jessie and Lloyd E. Tillman were married.

A homemaker, she helped her husband on their farm.

Jessie enjoyed driving the tractor, flower gardening and watching the hummingbirds. She was an avid camper, liked all kinds of games and especially loved being with her family.

She had attended the Walnut Church of the Brethren.

Jessie is survived by Lloyd, her husband of 56 years, Claypool, and by their four children, two sons and two daughters.

Her daughters are Pat and Joe Walters and Becky and Ed Drudge, all of Claypool. Her two sons are: Gary and Linda Tillman, Bremen, and Dale and Deb Tillman, Claypool.

Fourteen grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren also survive, together with a brother, Russell Markley and a sister-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Markley, both of Plymouth.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, a great-grandchild, a sister, Laura O'Dell and a brother, Glenn Markley.

Friends will be welcomed by Jessie's family from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2004, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2004, in the funeral home. The Rev. Paul McBride will officiate.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Jessie's memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ruth Ann Copenhaver

March 2, 2004

BOURBON - Ruth Ann Copenhaver, 69, of Warsaw, formerly of Bourbon, died Tuesday at 2:45 a.m. in Mason Health Care Facility.

She was survived by two daughters Donna (Doug) Phillips of Warsaw and Jill (Joe) Hawkins of Livingston, Tenn.; two sons Jack (Kim) Copenhaver of Auburn, Ala., and Randy Copenhaver; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be today at 2 p.m. in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.

Memorial gifts may be given to Fulton County Historical Society or Allen County Cancer Society.

Rhonda Jean Holycross

February 14, 2004

TIPPECANOE - Rhonda Jean Holycross, died, following a long battle with cancer, at her residence, 18632 S.R. 331, Tippecanoe, on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004. She was only 44 years old.

She loved people and was dearly loved by her children.

Rhonda was born in Warsaw on Dec. 11, 1959, the daughter of Raymond Sr., and Juanita Cook Uhlig of Plymouth. She attended schools in Warsaw and Argos.

On Dec. 27, 1987, in the Plymouth Assembly of God Church, Rhonda and Andrew Holycross were married.

A dedicated homemaker, Rhonda enjoyed cooking, gardening and was an expert at making beautiful flower arrangements.

Rhonda is survived by her spouse, Andrew of Tippecanoe and by their three children.

Two sons survive: Raymond Daniel Holycross, Plymouth, and David Lee Holycross, Tippecanoe, and a daughter, Dianne Katherine Holycross, also of Tippecanoe.

Her parents, Raymond and Juanita Uhlig, Sr., Plymouth; a brother, Robert Yoder, Elkhart, and a sister, Dianne Rudd, Afton, Minn., survive as well.

On Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m., friends will be welcomed by the family at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Paul Nye will officiate.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Rhonda's name may be made to the Marshall County Cancer Association.

Dorthy M. Rulapaugh

February 15, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Dorthy M. Rulapaugh, 72, a resident of Plymouth since 1959, coming here from Farmington Hills, Mich., died of natural causes at her residence, 217 Pennsylvania Ave., Plymouth, at 7:38 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004.

She was born in Farmington Hills, Mich., on January 8, 1932, the daughter of Bert and Ethel Epling Clark. She graduated from Farmington Hills High School.

On Aug. 25, 1950, at Walled Lake, Mich., Dorthy and Herbert H. "Red" Rulapaugh, Sr., were married. Red died on Jan. 1, 1999.

Dorthy worked at United Technologies for 28 years. Most recently she had been an important worker in the delicatessen section at Martin's Supermarket in Plymouth.

Martin's employees celebrated her birthday last month with a surprise party.

She liked to do embroidery work and enjoyed feeding the squirrels. An accomplished flower gardener, Dorthy especially loved being with her family and friends.

Dorthy is survived by a son, Herbert H. "Rusty" Rulapaugh, Jr., Plymouth and a daughter, Lavon D. Rulapaugh, Rochester.

A grandson, Seth Richard Rulapaugh, Raleigh, N.C., and four sisters and five brothers, also survive.

Her siblings are, sisters: Helen Schlusler, Howe, Mich.; Irene and Bill Aylesworth, Detroit, Mich.; Jennie and Tom Topper of Canton, Mich.; and Alice and Paul Harrison of Twining, Mich.

Her brothers are: Bert and Adela Clark of Garden City, Mich.; Ned and Josephine Clark of Howe, Mich.; George and Judy Clark of Espendido, Calif.; Gerald Clark of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and Richard and Norine Clark of Farmington Hills, Mich.

Dorthy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and E.V. Clark, a brother.

Visitation in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind., will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004.

Funeral services for Dorthy will be in the funeral home on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 21, 2004, at 2 p.m.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in remembrance of Dorthy may be made to the Marshall County Hospice.

Anna F. Snyder

February 15, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Anna F. Snyder, 88, died of natural causes, on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, in Miller's Merry Manor, 600 W. Oakhill Ave., Plymouth. She had formerly lived in the LaPaz area.

Anna was born in Elkhart on July 2, 1915. She was the daughter of Lewis and Carrie Myrtle Lechlitner Wise. She went to school in Madison Township schools.

A homemaker, Anna was married in Elkhart, to D. Paul Snyder on June 8, 1940, moving to LaPaz that year. Paul died on June 25, 1985.

She enjoyed cross-stitch and embroidery and was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Church, Wakarusa, Ind, and attended the Nappanee Missionary Church, Nappanee.

Anna is survived by two sons and four daughters. Her sons and their wives are: Lewis and Charlene Snyder of Valleyford, Washington, and Tom and Esther Snyder of Lakeville.

Her daughters and their spouses are: Fern and Ralph Costello of Plymouth; Mary and Steve McBride of Bourbon, Myrtle and Jim Smith of Lakeville and Sue and Bruce Berkey of Nappanee.

Fourteen grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, seven step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren.

A sister, Joy Badke, Elkhart, and a brother, Lloyd Wise of Nappanee, also survive Anna's death.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandchild; Christopher Berkey, daughter in law; Carolyn Snyder, a sister; Mary Wise and a brother, Norris Wise.

Visitation will be in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to services.

Funeral services for Anna will be on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home at 11 a.m. The Rev. Norm Reimer, Nappanee Missionary Church and the Rev. David Gould, Country Church of Bourbon, will officiate.

Interment will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Anna's memory may be made to the Union North Ambulance Service.

Billie Jean (Elder) Telgenhof

February 16, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Billie Jean (Elder) Telgenhof, 71, of C.R. 300 N., Plymouth, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 in her home after an illness.

Billie Jean was born Nov. 5, 1932 in Ora to Willard and Margaret (Fisher) McGary and lived in the area all of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of LaPorte.

Survivors include four daughters Margie (Mike) Gierlowski and Lori (Sam) Forsythe, all of Plymouth; Doris (Robert) Pfab of Davis Junction, Ill. and Fern (Gordon) Hostetler of Walkerton; four sons William (Mary Lou) Elder of Culver, Michael (Janet) Elder and Kenny (Becky) Elder, all of Walkerton and James (Sandy) Elder of Knox; a sister June Riley McCullough of Plymouth; 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Telgenhof, her son Chet Elder Jr., her parents and a brother Harry McGray.

Services will be Wednesday at noon at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with Pastor Royce Ford officiating.

Burial will follow in Eagle Creek Cemetery, Knox.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Larry A. Grossman

February 16, 2004

ARGOS - Larry A. Grossman, 53, 5122 S.R. 10, Tippecanoe, died Monday at 5:59 p.m. at his residence. He had been failing in health for the past year.

Larry was born Aug. 1, 1950 in Rochester to Leroy and Donna Belle Warren Grossman. He lived in Tippecanoe for the past 25 years, moving from Talma.

He had been an employee of the former Lob-Dell Corp. in Argos for 19 years. He was an employee of AM General Corp., Mishawaka, the past two years. He was a graduate of Mentone High School Class of 1968. He had attended computer school in Kansas City, Mo.

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and collecting paper weights. His favorite time was the time he spent with Cathie, Doris, Sandy and Jessie. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his companion Cathie Johns at home; two daughters Doris and Sandy Johns at home; his very special granddaughter Jessie at home; his parents Leroy and Donna Belle Grossman of Rochester; two sisters Sandra (John) Tucker of Fort Wayne and Connie Parish of Brookston; three nieces; four nephews; and eight great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos. Argos American Legion Post 68 will have charge of full military graveside rites.

Visitation will be Thursday, 4-8 p.m., or one hour prior to services in the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to Saint Joseph's Oncology Center, Plymouth.

Marjean A. Kain

February 14, 2004

PLYMOUTH - Marjean A. Kain, 75, 313 Marlou Place, Plymouth, died, following an illness, at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in the Americare Living Center, Elkhart, Marjean was the bride of Floyd D. Kain when she came to Plymouth from her home in Sheboygan, Wis.

She was born on March 5, 1928, in Sheboygan, the daughter of Clarence and Althea Kohl Winter. She graduated from Sheboygan North High School.

On June 6, 1954, Marjean and Floyd D. Kain were married in Sheboygan. Floyd died on Sept. 25, 1975.

Marjean worked for the Marshall County Division of Family and Children, retiring in 1995. She had also worked in the Marshall County Clerk's office for several years.

Very much involved in her church, the First United Church of Christ, she was a member of the Women's Circles of the church, the Excelsior Class, the Retirement Group and had served as the Festival and Worship committee chairman, as well as serving on many other committees of the church. Her family was her life, and she enjoyed participating in her children and grandchildren's activities.

She was a crossword puzzle fan and a member of the Plymouth Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Her children and her grandchildren were very special people in her life. They are, a son and his wife, Rikki and Katherine Kain and their children: Matthew, Benjamin and Austin Kain, all of Elkhart.

A daughter Candace and her husband, Fred Bechtel who also live in Elkhart, with their daughters, Amanda and Emelie Bechtel.

And Janelle and her spouse, Dan Batta who live in Sunman. Their children, Nicole Batta is a student at Purdue, while Sarah Batta and Alicia Batta live in Sunman.

Marjean was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

The family will welcome friends to share memories and honor Marjean's life from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004. A special Eastern Star service will be held at 8 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. John M. Gantt, interim pastor of the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center St., Plymouth, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.

Interment will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Marjean's memory may be made to the First United Church of Christ.
