NILES, MICH. - Wayne A. Holycross, 86, of East Main St., Niles, Mich., died on Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at 10:40 p.m. in Lakeland Hospital, Niles.

He is survived by his wife Etta; son, Daryl W. (Virginia) Holycross, Plymouth; daughter, Debbie L. (Ron) DeBlock, Mishawaka; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Herb Bulwada officiating.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Bubb Funeral Chapel North, Mishawaka, is in charge of the arrangements.

Leta F. Houghton

CULVER - Leta F. Houghton, 87, of 609 Houghton St., Culver, died on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at 8:45 p.m. in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

She is survived by a son, Dr. John W. Houghton, Baton Rouge and a sister-in-law, Jean Kingery, Flora, Ind.

Visitation is Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Bonine Funeral Home, Culver.

Funeral services are Wednesday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Culver, with Dr. John W. Houghton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Culver Masonic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Culver Golden Agers, c/o Ruth Walker, 912 Lakeshore Dr., Culver, Ind. 46511.

Bonine Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of the arrangements.

Manferd Houghton, Jr.

PLYMOUTH - Manferd Houghton, Jr., 86, of 600 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth died on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth of a cancer related illness.

Graveside services will be announced at a future date. Cremation will take place. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.

LAKEVILLE - Gladys L. Melton, 88, of Linden Rd., Lakeville, died at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at her home from natural causes.

She is survived by two daughters: LaDonna (Phillip) Butcher, Mishawaka and Janet (Walt Trzaskowski) Gardner, South Bend; one step-daughter, Bernadine Schall, Plymouth; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia Cloud of Odessa, Mo.

Visitation is today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, 314 S. Michigan Street, Lakeville. .

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services and burial will follow at Fair Cemetery, North Liberty.

Contributions in memory of Gladys L. Melton may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice.

Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, is in charge of the arrangements.

John W. Oliver Sr.

December 29, 2003

PLYMOUTH - John W. Oliver Sr., 94, of 910 Bailey St., Plymouth, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at 8:15 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born May 27, 1909 in Hardin County, Ky., to Node and Elizabeth (Langley) Oliver.

He married Christine Jansing on Sept. 3, 1938 in Louisville, Ky. She passed away Oct. 15, 1995.

He was a member of Plymouth Moose Lodge 741, a past member of Plymouth Rotary Club, a member of The Auto Dealer's Association of Indiana and a member of The National Auto Dealer's Association.

John and his family moved to Plymouth in 1955 from Huntington and purchased the Ford Dealership in Plymouth. John retired Jan. 1, 1975.

He is survived by his daughter Sister Marilyn (Judy) Oliver of Lafayette; his son Jack (Jana) Oliver of Plymouth; his granddaughters Jennifer (Chuck) Houin and Jessica (Jeff) Reynolds of Plymouth; and a grandson John (Michelle) Oliver of Plymouth. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren Sydney and Jeffrey Oliver and Luke and Grant Houin, all of Plymouth.

John was preceded in death by his daughter Marilyn.

Services will be Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Plymouth, with Father William Kummer and Father Roy Stiles officiating.

Burial will be in New Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, 3-7 p.m., at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth.

Memorial gifts may be given to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 655, Plymouth, IN 46563.

Ralph B. 'Junior' Heims Jr.

RENSSELAER - Ralph B. "Junior" Heims Jr., 66, 322 N. Harrison St., Francesville, died Monday at 7:45 p.m.

He is survived by four children and five stepchildren Vernon (Sandra) Heims of Plymouth; Joy (Ira) Brown of Rolling Prairie; Ralph B. Heims III of South Bend; Angel (Robert) Cable of LaPorte; Frances Wren of Blytheville, Ark.; Delores Baker of Francesville; Kathleen (Robert) Bilotta of Aurora, Colo.; Jessie Carter of Medaryville; and Wanda (Richard) Schultz of Francesville. Nineteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive. Also surviving are eight sisters Carol (Mike) Calfee of Winamac, Leona (Jim) Stone of Grovertown, Nancy (Cal) Puckett of Winamac, Estella Barnett of Walkerton, Ann Shideler of Winamac, Evelyn (Everett) Slavey of Michigan City, Dorothy (Gary) Spoor of Cookville, Tenn., and Pearl Grimelspacher of Cookville.

Visitation will be Thursday, 3-7 p.m. at Steinke Funeral Home, Rensselaer.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Dulen officiating.

Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery.

FLORA - Faye E. Jones, 90, a resident of Clinton House in Frankfort, formerly of Flora, died Monday at 11:45 p.m.

She is survived by her children Fred (Lois) Jones of Plymouth and Dr. Harry (Debbie) Jones of Cutler; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Reinke Funeral Home in Flora with Rev. Alvan Grumbling officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorial gifts may be given to Flora First Brethren Church.

BREMEN - Clifford Swihart Jr., 76, 316 Woodies Lane, Bremen, died Tuesday at 6 a.m. at Bremen Health Care.

He is survived by two daughters Rox Ann (Scott) Rombke of Elkhart and Tangi (Alan) O'Mara of Omaha, Neb.; a son Brad (Rita) Swihart of Mishawaka; and five grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Rohde officiating.

Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial gifts may be given to Bremen Manor.

Norine B. Divine

December 2, 2003

WALKERTON - Norine B. Divine, 84, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003.

Norine was born Jan. 31, 1919 in Walkerton to the late Amel Lee Schultz and Ruby Louise (Wolff) Schultz. She was a lifetime resident.

On July 15, 1943 in Walkerton she married Melvin Ross Divine. He preceded her in death July 2, 1999.

She is survived by three children Paula Jean Johnson of Walkerton, Laura Lewella Divine of Camarillo, Calif., and Melvin Ross Divine Jr. of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Elsie May Mattocks of Florida and a brother Robert Schultz of Mishawaka.

Norine was preceded in death by two brothers Otto and Richard Schultz and a sister Lewella Stephenson.

Norine was a member of Walkerton United Methodist Church, Walkerton Business Women, American Legion Post 189 Ladies Auxiliary, Dixie Walker Square Dance Club and the Moose Lodge of Plymouth.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home in Walkerton.

Services will be Friday, Dec. 5, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial gifts be made to Marshall County Hospice.

PLYMOUTH - Vivian F. Slater, 77, 9885 Hawthorn Road, Plymouth, died Thursday at her residence.

She is survived by a daughter Jan M. Filson of Plymouth and Rosemary Williams of McAllen, Texas.

Visitation will be Sunday, noon to 2 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Tyner Cemetery.

James R. 'Jake' Sobieck Sr.

HAMLET - James R. "Jake" Sobieck Sr., 64, residing on Danker Street in Knox, died Wednesday following an illness.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; a daughter Cindy Davis of Grovertown; three sons James Jr. and Randy, both of Knox, and Thomas of Walkerton; two sisters Joan Erbach of Culver and Madline "Snookie" Tessner of Grovertown; and three brothers Fred of Bison, S.C., Don of Culver and Kenny of Knox.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of services, which will be 3 p.m., at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
