Marcia L. Obenland

LAFAYETTE - Services for Marcia Lynn “Rusty” Havrilesko Obenland, 56, Lafayette, will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Soller-Baker Funeral Home.

She died at 12:32 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, in Home Hospital, Lafayette.

Born Dec. 25, 1952, in Gary, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Joan Ginter Havrilesko. She was married in Lafayette to Herbert Alan Obenland, and he survives.

Marcia was a homemaker, waitress and worked retail.

Surviving along with her spouse are her mother, Joan I. Ginter Havrilesko, Lafayette; sons, Aaron McLaughlin and wife, Ressie, Hobart, Christopher A. Obenland, California, Tylee Obenland, Hoopeston, Ill., and Brock A. Obenland, Henning, Ill.; sisters, Esther Havrilesko, Three Oaks, Mich., Bobbi Tierney, Logansport, and Joy Fahler, Star City; brothers, Doug Havrilesko and wife, Cheryl, Winchester, Ky., and Chris Havrilesko and wife, Judy, Logansport; grandchildren, Stephanie, Tim, Brandan, and Ashley Obenland, and Matthew and Nicole McLaughlin; nieces, Kelly Pokorney, Tara Tierney, Anna (Mark) Fleshman, Shelley Havrilesko, Jessy Havrilesko and Sharon Fahler; nephews, Micah Pokorney, John Pokorney, Nathan (Kristin) Conner, Jonathon Tierney, Ben Havrilesko, Tim (Richelle) Fahler and Donnie (Stephanie) Fahler; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma and Brenden Conner, Kaydan Berkshire and Hope Fahler.

She was preceded in death by her father.

The Rev. Clayton Kendall will officiate.

Friends may call 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Nicoletta F. ‘Colleen’ Antonelli

A Mass of Christian burial for Nicoletta F. “Colleen” Antonelli, 85, Logansport, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in All Saints Catholic Church.

She died at 12:13 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in WoodBridge Health Campus.

Born Aug. 21, 1923, in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late John and Antonia Mary DeSantis Ricci. On Sept. 29, 1945, she was married to Stanley Antonelli Sr., and he preceded her in death on March 29, 1988.

She attended St. Joseph’s School and was a 1941 Logansport High School graduate. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, All Saints Ladies Society, Daughters of Isabella and Our Lady of Grace Study Club, and she was also a volunteer room mother and Cub Scout den mother. Colleen enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a secretary at General Tire, retiring in 1977, and she was also a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, John P. Antonelli, Indianapolis, and Stan T. Antonelli II, Logansport; two grandchildren, Stan T. Antonelli III, and Andra Cicero and husband, Michael, Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by brother, Thomas Ricci, and sister, Edith Ricci.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Marocco Funeral Chapel, where there will also be a Scripture and Daughter of Isabella service at 7 p.m.

Father Mike McKinney will officiate, and burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies Society of All Saints.

Weldon L. ‘Wod’ Baker

ROCHESTER - Services for Weldon L. “Wod” Baker, 72, Rochester, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Good Family Funeral Home.

He died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, in his residence.

Rev. Junior Bose will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Richland Center Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, and one hour prior to services in the funeral home.

Juanita L. Gibbs Johnson

Services for Juanita L. Gibbs Johnson, 85, Logansport, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, in her residence.

Rev. Doug Mankell will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Ruth I. Nethercutt

Services for Ruth I. Nethercutt, 90, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.

Born Sept. 17, 1917, in Bunker Hill, she was the daughter of Charles and Dora Engel Bird. On Aug. 21, 1938, in Logansport, she was married to Cecil L. Nethercutt, who preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1993.

A licensed beautician, Ruth was a graduate of the Wedekind Beauty College and had sold Avon for many years. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting. She will be missed by her family, who will love and remember her always.

She left behind several loved ones including four daughters, Brenda Louthan; Joan Strasser and her husband, Gale; Cindy Smith and her husband, Tom; and Penny Heckathorn and her husband, Phillip, all of Logansport; two brothers, Chuck Bird and Bill Bird, both of Mishawaka; two sisters, Rose Gifford, Cummings, Iowa; and Betty Shoemaker, Mishawaka; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Rance L. Nethercutt; one son-in-law, Bill Louthan; and three brothers.

Burial will be in Davis Cemetery near Burnettsville.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Freida Maxine Moon

DENVER - Services for Freida Maxine Moon, 86, Twelve Mile, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in McClain Funeral Home.

She died at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, in Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born Sept. 28, 1921, in Adams Township in Cass County, she was the daughter of Orlando J. and Clara M. Sherrard Bookwalter. On Sept. 29, 1940, in Twelve Mile, she married Wendell R. Moon, who preceded in death on May 21, 2005.

She was a 1940 graduate of Twelve Mile High School and was a member of the Corinth Brethren Church.

Survivors include two sons, Everett Allen Moon and his wife, LaVerne; and Jerry Lee Moon and his wife, Mimi, all of Twelve Mile; a daughter, Carmen Sue Carter, and her husband, Steve, Russiaville; a sister, Frances V. Beckley, Twelve Mile; six grandchildren, Sheryl Bennett, Richard Moon, Patricia McGuire, Pascal Moon, Stephanie Knapp, and Ryan Carter, and 12 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Onis D. Moon; and four brothers, Harold, Varrick, Norman, and Leon Bookwalter.

Pastor Mike Thompson will officiate at the services. Burial be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Twelve Mile First Responders or Twelve Mile Fire Department.

Walter J. Weaver

WINAMAC - Services for Walter J. Weaver, 75, Winamac, will he held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Frain Mortuary.

He died at 11:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, in Winamac.

Born March 22, 1932, in Star City, he was the son of Simon John Weaver and Anna Elizabeth Link Weaver. He was married on July 7, 1952, in Winamac, to Mary Ann Thompson, who survives.

Walter was a 1950 graduate of Pulaski High School. Walter was a retired farmer. He was also retired in 2003 from the Indiana Department of Transportation where he had worked as a permit inspector for the Plymouth sub-district. He had worked in the parts department of Gilsinger Implement Co. in Pulaski for 14 years. He served as the Indian Creek Republican Precinct Committeeman for 17 years. Walter served on the Pulaski White Rural Telephone Board of directors for 14 years. He loved going to auctions, antique shows and garage sales. He loved working in his garden. Walter enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Marie and Brian Houston, Winamac; son and daughter-in-law, John Ralph and JoAnn Weaver, Indianapolis; granddaughters, Crystal Weaver, Laura Przybyla and Abbey Houston; grandsons, Patrick Weaver and Mark Houston; sisters, M. Louise Abbott, Winamac; and Joan Crum, South Bend; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Simon John Weaver; mother, Anna Elizabeth Link Weaver; and two brothers, James Weaver and Phillip Weaver.

Rev. Edward Clark will officiate at the services. Burial will be in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.

Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. Monday in Frain Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pulaski Memorial Hospice.

John P. Markley

DENVER - Services for John P. Markley, 71, Peru, will be at noon Saturday in McClain Funeral Home.

He passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 11, 2009, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Born March 10, 1937, in Pulaski County, he was the son of Harris and Naomi Shaw Markley. He was first married to Bonnie A. Cosgray, and she preceded him in death. On July 2, 1978, in Warsaw, he was married to Carolyn J. Fouts, and she survives.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War, and he was retired from Bryan Steam in Peru. He enjoyed going to auctions and working outside.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Markley, Jacksonville, Ill.; one son, Troy Markley, Kokomo; one stepdaughter, Karen Trigg, Deedsville; one stepson, John Weisenberger, Peru; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Leisure, Kewanna, Susie Rysz, Bluffton, Ohio, and Jeanie Froman, Ferdinand; one half-brother, Jeff Markley, Rochester; and one half-sister, Julie Birge, Kewanna.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Markley; one brother, Donald Markley; and one grandson, Matthew Stout.

Pastor Steve Bate will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Buck Cemetery, Thornhope.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

James T. ‘Jim’ Wren

Services for James T. “Jim” Wren, 85, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in First Church of the Nazarene in Logansport.

He died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in Chase Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Dec. 2, 1923, in Libourn, Mo., he was the son of Elbert Thomas and Mable Roberts Wren. His first marriage was to Betty Littler, who preceded in death on Sept. 17, 1986. His second marriage was to Martha Hurlock, who preceded in death on Oct. 10, 1999.

Jim was a carpenter.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and a member of Bonair Church of the Nazerene for 50 years. He also enjoyed playing cards.

Surviving are sons, John J. Wren and wife, Chong, Wheeling, Chicago, Ill., James F. Wren and wife, Deloris, Redland, Calif., and Joseph S. Wren and wife, Julie, Quincy, Ill.; brothers, Joe C. Wren and wife, Joan, Logansport, and Don R. Wren and wife, Betty, Ledbetter, Ky.; sisters, Dollie Mathis and husband, Gene, Ironton, Mo., Shelby Dill, Palmetto, Fla., Barbara Fye and husband, Dick, Kokomo, Betty Cardwell and husband, Jack, Riverview, Fla., Alice Traughber and husband, Glen, Donovan, Mo., and Louise Parker and husband, Larry, Malden, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ardel Young and Betty Lou; three brothers, E.T. Wren Jr., Billy Wren and Paul Eugene Wren; and an infant.

Dr. Horace Smith will officiate. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Kokomo.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation.

Lavena E. Kummer

Services for Lavena E. Kummer, 96, Logansport, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Gundrum Funeral Home.

She died at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in Miller’s Merry Manor.

Lavena was born on March 4, 1912, on a farm north of Rossville, to William and Julia Leibenguth Seager. She was married July 1, 1955, in Logansport, to Robert Kummer.

She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Lavena attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Union Township School in Howard County with 15 other classmates, although she took her senior year over due to her records being misplaced. Lavena was a homemaker and seamstress. She made numerous wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses from pictures her clients brought her from magazines. In her 70s and 80s she won several awards for her handsewn quilts. When quilting became too heavy to handle, she switched to needlepoint.

Surviving with her husband are three children, son, Dick and Bev Zimmerman, Englewood, Fla., daughter, Vicki and Bob Champion, Belvidere, Ill., and daughter, Jeanie and Steve Jones, Logansport; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Hawkins, Kokomo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Treso Ruegamer, and beloved cat, Dusty.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley J. Roberts

WINAMAC - Shirley J. Roberts, 61, Winamac, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, in Hickory Creek at Winamac.

Born Jan. 30, 1947, in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of Frank and Margaret Mildred Strubhar Endress.

Shirley lived in Winamac for eight years. She formerly lived in Peoria, Ill., and Memphis, Tenn.

Surviving are mother and stepfather, Margaret Mildred and Gordon L. Griggs, Winamac; daughters, Rene, Ohio, and Dea, Illinois; six grandchildren; and a stepsister and stepbrother.

She was preceded in death by her father and one son.

There will be no services.

Frain Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Doyne E. ‘J.R.’ Guy Jr.

GALVESTON - A memorial service will be held at a later date for Doyne E. “J.R.” Guy Jr., 60, Crossville, Tenn.

He passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at his home in Crossville, Tenn.

Born Oct. 8, 1947, in Cass County, he was the son of Doyne E. and Mary Alice Somsel Guy.

J.R. retired from Chrysler after several years’ service. He was a member of UAW Local 685 and American Legion Walton Post 418.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Vietnam.

He enjoyed building his own home, enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Surviving are his mother, Walton; one brother, Don J. Guy, Walton; sisters, Sandra Brazeal and husband, Jerry, Fort Myers, Fla., and Nancy Eber and husband, Lary, Kewanna; and sister-in-law, Judy Guy, Walton.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Harold.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Murray-Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
