Tressie L. Blevins

ROYAL CENTER - Services for Tressie L. Blevins, 83, Logansport, will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.

She died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at WoodBridge Health Campus, Logansport.

Born Jan. 28, 1925, in Winston County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Thomas M. and Hester Mayhall West. On July 31, 1940, she was married to Joseph L. Blevins, who preceded in death July 16, 1998.

She retired in 1982 from RBM in Logansport where she was also a member of the RBM Club. Tressie enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.

Surviving are four sons, James T. Blevins and his wife, Linda, Elkhart, Teddy L. Blevins and his wife, Ruth, Logansport, Gary D. Blevins and his wife, Deb, Florence, Ala., and Ricky J. Blevins and his wife, Ellen, Logansport; one daughter, Kathryn Sue Stout and her husband, Wayne, Logansport; one sister, Virginia Dolphin, Michigan; grandchildren, Mitch, Michelle and Matt Maloy, Kim Roller, Wendy Hurford, Bobby Best, Tressie Harrington, Ginger Smith, Rhonda Moore, Joseph Blevins, James Christopher Blevins, Tara Fultz, Courtney Selleck, Amanda Hettinger, Sean Stout and Cassie Stout; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley G. Maloy; granddaughter, Tina Dingess; and great-grandson, Michael Ashbrook.

Pastor Zane Hanna will officiate at the services and burial will be at Kistler Cemetery, Royal Center.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Dr. Col. Carl R. Boyd

CULVER - Services for Dr. Col. Carl R. Boyd, 65, Culver, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bonine-Odom Funeral Home.

He died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, in Harmony Guest Home in Hillsboro, Ore.

The Rev. Ron Lewellen will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Culver Masonic Cemetery in Culver.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International.

David W. Scott Sr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date for David W. Scott Sr., 53, Logansport.

He died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, in his residence.

Born June 18, 1955, in Iowa, he was the son of Arnold R. and Mildred T. Lieithy Scott. On July 31, 2003, in Logansport, he was married to Deborah J. Griffith, who survives.

David was self-employed as a painter. He was the former owner of Import Auto and Check Motors. He had also been employed at the former Monon Trailer Corp.

David was a member of the Logansport Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed auto mechanics and especially loved working on imports.

Surviving with his wife are three sons, Randall O. Scott, Danny R. Scott and David W. Scott Jr., all of Logansport; one daughter, Stephanie L. Strong, Twelve Mile; two stepdaughters, Faith A. Archer, Logansport, and Kimberly S. Burrough, Peru; one stepson, Joseph P. Archer, Logansport; one brother, Charles H. Scott, Reynolds; one sister, Barbara L. Quimby, Argos; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one grandson.

Fisher Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Michael T. Cabeje

A Mass of Christian burial for Michael T. Cabeje, 34, Logansport, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Catholic Church.

He died at 9:04 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at his residence.

Born Sept. 11, 1973, in Porterville, Calif., he was the son of Herman and Louise Lopez Cabeje.

Michael was a registered nurse and a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and he enjoyed baking, cooking and watching movies.

Survivors include his parents, Herman Sr. and Louise Cabeje, Porterville, Calif.; brothers, Jimmy Cabeje and his wife, Maria, Porterville, Calif., and Herman Cabeje Jr., Chicago; sister, Evangeline Brown, Port Orange, Fla.; maternal grandfather, Henry Lopez, Lemoore, Calif., and maternal grandmother, Anita Solorzano, Madera, Calif. He was also cared for by Humberto Martinez, Logansport, who was like a brother to Michael.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Marocco Funeral Chapel, where a Scripture service will be held at 5:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home in care of the family.

‘Doc’ Orval J. Baber

GALVESTON - Services for “Doc” Orval J. Baber, 84, Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Walton Christian Church, 103 W. Bishop St., Walton.

He went home to be with the Lord at 7 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at his home in Walton.

Born Oct. 4, 1923 in Logansport, he was the son of Orval F. and Cora Campbell Baber. He was married on Nov. 8, 1946, in Walton Christian Church in Walton, to Jean Fitzer Baber, who survives.

Doc retired in 1985 from Civil Service at Grissom AFB. He was a Navy Veteran in WWII.

He served as a Deacon at Walton Christian Church and was a member of the Walton American Legion.

He served as a volunteer at Thompson Elementary School in Walton for 16 years. He enjoyed reading and working puzzles. He liked keeping his house and church beautiful and spending time with family and friends.

Also surviving is a son, Jeff and Cindy Baber, Walton; grandsons, Joel and Kristen Baber, Kansas City, Mo., and Jacob Baber and fiancee, Allison Rober, Indianapolis; brother, Harlan Baber, Logansport; and two great-granddogs, Winston and Einstein.

His parents; and four brothers, Jim, Forest, Gordon and Robert Baber, preceded in death.

Rev. Bill Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Murray Weaver Funeral Home Galveston Chapel and one hour prior to services on Tuesday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Walton Christian Church or the Cass County Community Foundation Southeastern School Corporation Scholarship fund.

Larry R. Griffith

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Funeral services for Larry R. Griffith, 61, Glens Falls, N.Y., will be held at noon Tuesday in the Maynard D. Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, N.Y.

He passed away Friday morning, Sept. 5, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Sept. 14, 1946, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Robert S. and Pauline C. Hill Griffith.

Following his graduation from Logansport High School, Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1965, serving in Germany in the Special Security Department being honorably discharged in 1968.

Larry worked for the Logansport newspaper before relocating to Glens Falls and working for the Post Star as a proofer and scanner in the press department for many years.

Larry enjoyed camping and fishing, especially with his niece, Jessica. He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed his “girls night out.”

Survivors include his soul mate and wife of 17 years, Sharron Burch Griffith, Glens Falls, N.Y.; one daughter, Carrie Griffith and her friend, Michael MacFadden, Massachusetts; one grandson, Owen Michael McFadden; one brother, Richard Griffith and his wife, Doris, of Logansport; one sister-in-law, Fay Winslow and her husband, Charles, Queensbury, N.Y.; one brother-in-law, Timothy Burch and his wife, Cindy, Queensbury, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

His parents preceded in death.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday in the funeral home.

Rev. Scott Harding, pastor of Church of the Messiah, Glens Falls, will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury, N.Y.

Donations, in loving memory of Larry, may be made to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9 Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury, New York 12804 or to a charity of one’s choice.

Larry’s family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff in the emergency room at Glens Falls Hospital for their wonderful job, very hard efforts to save Larry beyond their call of duty and their extremely sympathetic care to his family as well.

Ruth Germaine

Services for Ruth Germaine, 79, Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

She died at 3:28 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.

Born Aug. 18, 1929, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Alvia and Ruth Beatle Wall. She was married to John Germaine, who preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2002.

She was a member of the Peru First Assembly of God.

Surviving are two daughters, Deb Geary and her husband, David, Logansport, and Diana Delk, Peru; two sisters, Jane “Sam” Rocchio, Lemmer Grove, Calif., and Betty Jerry, Canada; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Rev. John Thomas will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 365 Monroe Ave., Peru, IN 46970.

Laura L. Gray

Services for Laura L. Gray, 89, Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

She passed away at 12:33 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, in Life Care Center, Rochester.

Born Feb. 6, 1919, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Austin and Emma Stein White. She was married on May 3, 1941, in Logansport, to Charles D. Gray, who preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1991.

A lifetime resident of Logansport and a graduate of Logansport High School, Laura had been employed at Logansport Machine Company for many years and became a homemaker after her retirement in the early 1980s. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a 34-year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a sister Wilma Clark; sisters-in-law, Virginia Spencer and Wilda Moore; nephews, Richard White, Andrew White, Lyall Clark, and Robert Clark; nieces, Beverly Gayheart, Geneva Sones and Pamela Kraemer; and many great-nephews and great-nieces.

Father Ted Neidlinger will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.

Friends may call from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church.

Betty Jean Button Foerg Brown

Betty Jean Button Foerg Brown, 78, Royal Center, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, in her residence.

Born March 23, 1929, in Lake County, she was the daughter of Harley Franklin and Flora Dell Malott Button. She was married Jan. 13, 1946, to Robert W. Foerg, who preceded in death Nov. 24, 1960. She was married Nov. 2, 1962, to Donald E. Brown, who survives.

Betty loved spending time with her family, gardening and all kinds of needlework including quilting, knitting, sewing, etc.

Also surviving are children, Garry Foerg and his wife, Kim, Winamac, Jeffrey Foerg and his fiancé, Kim, Westville, Rebecca “Becky” Rivers and her husband, Rick, Logansport, and son-in-law, James Fredel, Winamac; eight grandchildren, Brian Fredel and his wife, Krissy, Winamac, Kriste Bell and her husband, Mike, and Eric Foerg and his fiancé, Lindsey, all of Hobart, Craig Foerg and his wife, Connie, Westville, Shane Foerg and his wife, Sonja, Whiteland, Shannon Burgess and her husband, Brandon, Lafayette, Ryan Rivers and his wife, Kelly, Indianapolis, and Michael Rivers and his fiancé, Nichole, Logansport; eight great-grandchildren, Lauren and Logan Fredel, Winamac, Megan and Aaron Bell, Hobart, Kyle and Evan Foerg, Westville, and Alena and Cody Foerg, Whiteland.

One daughter, Lucinda “Cindy” Fredel, one daughter-in-law, Debra Foerg, seven brothers and five sisters, preceded in death.

There will be no service.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ernest L. ‘LeRoy’ Doyle

MONTICELLO - Services for Ernest L. “LeRoy” Doyle, 78, Monon, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello.

He died at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.

Father Fintan Cummins will officiate at the services. Burial, with full military rites conducted by the local Honor Guard of the American Legion, AMVETS and VFW, will be in Bedford Cemetery, rural Monon.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Kidney or American Heart Associations.

Richard H. ‘Rick’ Lowes

Services for Richard H. “Rick” Lowes, 59, Chicago, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Ever-Rest Memorial Park.

He passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in his residence.

Born April 24, 1949, in Logansport, he was the son of Herbert H. and Mary Kathryn Bartenbach Lowes.

Rick was a senior analyst at Harris Bank at their headquarters in downtown Chicago. He was a 1968 graduate of Logansport High School, where he played on the varsity tennis team. He earned his BA degree and master’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, and was an IU fan all of his life. He also was a Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are nephew, John Lowes, Logansport; uncle and aunt, Bernard and Kathryn Lowes, Logansport; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack E. Lowes.

The Rev. Frank Hibbard will officiate.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at Kroeger Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Carousel Inc., 1208 Riverside Drive, Logansport IN 46947.

Marjorie J. Peterson

Services for Marjorie J. Peterson, 83, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

She died at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, in her residence.

Born May 6, 1925, in Sheldon, Ill., she was the daughter of Fred R. and Sarah Helen Houston Lewellen. She was married June 11, 1943, in Logansport, to Walter F. Peterson, who preceded in death May 2, 1998.

Marjorie retired from Switches Inc., and she also had worked at the RBM.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, and VFW Post 3790 Ladies Auxiliary.

Marjorie enjoyed quilting, crocheting, flower gardening and spending time with her family.

Surviving are daughters, Linda Isaacs and husband, Gene, Logansport, and Patricia Bowman, Kokomo; son, Fred Peterson, Royal Center, and his special friend, Nora Woodhouse; grandchildren, Danielle Isaacs-Johnson and husband, Tony, Logansport, Rod Lynch and wife, Michelle, Rockfield, Shawn Graf and wife, Jennifer, Indianapolis, Carmin Peterson and Bill Bauman, Logansport, Ashley Bauer and husband, Dan, West Lafayette, Brooke Bowman, Kokomo, and Lindsay Peterson, Wabash; and nine great-grandchildren, Kitrina Ohman, Trevor A. Lynch, Ethan Henderson, Joel Henderson, Kenny Henderson, Addison Bauer, Keagan Peterson, Jordan Graf and Peyton Graf.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Hankee, and one brother, Fred Robert Lewellen.

The Rev. Mr. Juan Rodriguez will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
