Loren P. Spaulding

PERU - Services for Loren P. Spaulding, 71, Peru, will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday in Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru.

He died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in his residence.

Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Robert L. Cart

Services for Robert L. Cart, 77, Logansport, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

He died at 3:48 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in Howard Regional Health Care System.

Born Jan. 16, 1931, in Cass County, he was the son of Edgar R. Cart and Esther Anderson. He was married on Oct. 26, 1974, in Logansport to Frances J. Grauel, who survives.

He retired in 1988 from the Kokomo Chrysler Casting Plant. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 60, past chef de-gare of Voiture No. 729 40 and 8, past president of the Cass County Veterans Council and was also a Marine veteran of the Korean War.

Also surviving are sons, Robert Lee Cart, Star City, and Christopher W. Cart, St. Cloud, Fla.; daughter, Tracey Wagner and husband, Doug, Logansport; stepsons, Thomas J. Moss and wife, Nancy, Logansport, and Timothy W. Moss and wife, Misty, Logansport; stepdaughters, Donna Jackson, Sebring, Fla., and Deborah K. Schelling and husband, Jeff, Shaker Heights, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Debra Graves, and one brother, Maurice Cart, preceded in death.

Rev. William Art Maloney will officiate. Burial, with full military graveside rites, will be in Walton IOOF Cemetery, Walton.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation and Guardian Angel Hospice.

Larry J. Wickersham

ANDERSON - Memorial services for Larry J. Wickersham, 58, Anderson, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness (South Congregation), 5719 Madison Ave.

He died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Matthew Griner will officiate at the services.

Memorials contributions may be directed to the Kingdom Hall.

Marcus J. Reffitt

ROCHESTER - Services for Marcus J. Reffitt, 51, Macy, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home.

He died at 4:58 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, in Lutheran Hospital of Indiana at Fort Wayne.

Born Jan. 31, 1956, in Risner, Ky., he was the son of Harold and Biddie Jean Bradley Reffitt. On Dec. 20, 1975, in Rochester, he was married to Connie J. Gunter, who survives.

Mr. Reffitt had worked for Bellar Construction in Peru. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan and a fisherman. He enjoyed working as a mechanic and spending time with his grandchildren.

Also surviving are daughters, Elizabeth Ann and husband, Kevin Swafford, and Elaina Jean and husband, Matthew Gearhart, all of Rochester; grandchildren, Jonny Sailors, Jamie Sailors, Nicki Sailors, Jacob Swafford, Kaylah Gearhart and Dylan Gearhart, all of Rochester; parents, Harold and Biddie Jean Reffitt, Fulton; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ralph and Janet Gunter; brothers, Harold W. and wife, Brenda Reffitt and Carl and wife, Jill Reffitt, Peru; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephnie Jo Reffitt, in 1996.

Pastor Bruce Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and one hour before services Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Hannah Louise Poenix

WINAMAC - Services for Hannah Louise Poenix, 82, Winamac, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church.

She died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.

The Rev. Glen Meyers will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Star City West Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at First Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made at First Christian Church or Pulaski Health Care Center activities fund.

Frain Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Darrel J. Bowman

A memorial service for Darrel J. Bowman, 86, Kokomo, formerly of Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

He died at 4:54 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Northwoods Village in Kokomo.

Born May 22, 1921, in Miami Township, Cass County, he was the son of Curtis F. and Gretna L. Robertson Bowman. On May 30, 1943, in Logansport, he was married to Marilynn M. Moon, who survives.

Darrel enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing pinochle and euchre.

From 1939 to 1975, Darrel was engaged in farming. From 1975 to 1994, he did custom work as a cabinet maker. He was a graduate of New Waverly High School.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jil A. Browne of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sons, Dale and wife, Lorraine J. Bowman, of Galveston; Kent and wife, Karie Bowman, of Fort Worth, Texas; Scott and wife, Donna D. Bowman, of Tipton; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Louise Wright.

The Rev. Keith Schreffler will officiate at the services.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Monday in Fisher Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Emerson ‘Smitty’ Smith

Services for Emerson “Smitty” Smith, 74, Logansport, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

He passed away at 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.

Born Nov. 28, 1934, in Flora, he was the son of William Donald and Maddie Mae Story Smith. He was married to Aldonna Stackhouse, who preceded in death. On Nov. 28, 1998, in Logansport, he was married to Mable D. Shaw, who survives.

Emerson was retired from the shipping department at Elco Industries. He had been a member of the Logansport Eagles.

Also surviving are Carl N. Smith, Logansport; daughters, Debbie (Joe) Waples, Lafayette, and Donna Shaw, Logansport; brother, Glen (Ruby) Smith, Delphi; sister, Betty (Bruce) Moore, Delphi; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, four sisters, and three brothers.

The Rev. Buddy Holder will officiate. Burial will be in Bell Center Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Maegan Mariah Noelle Hiatt

ROCHESTER - Private family services will be held for infant Maegan Mariah Noelle Hiatt, Rochester.

She was stillborn at 5:46 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

Pastor Chris Beall will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Good Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bonnie J. Smith Walker

Services for Bonnie J. Smith Walker, 64, Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Kroeger Funeral Home.

She died at 8:20 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, in Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born August 24, 1943, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Howard S. and Joyce P. Hensel Smith.

Bonnie was a 1961 graduate of Flora High School. She had been employed until 2001 as a secretary at Bell Fiber Packaging Company in Marion. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and needlepoint, travel and all crafts. She especially liked Mickey Mouse.

Bonnie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Surviving are her mother, Joyce P. Smith, Logansport; her three sons, Scott A. Walker and his wife, Kim, Logansport, Jeffery D. Walker, Logansport, and Michael S. Walker and his wife, Stacee, Converse; her sister brother-in-law, Peggy and William Walker, Rochester; her seven grandchildren, Christina, Teri, Christopher, Hunter, Brooklyn, Brittani and Braxton; her great-grandson, Jaylen; and her niece, Renee; her nephew, Timothy; and many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Howard S. Smith.

Pastors Sandy Hutchens and Tom McShannock will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.

Douglas W. Moser

PERU - Services for Douglas W. Moser, 60, Peru, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home.

He died at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in his residence.

The Rev. J. Robert Clark will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru.

Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ralph F. Hamman

MONTEREY - Services for Ralph F. Hamman, 85, of Monterey will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna.

He passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Dec. 20, 1923, in Kewanna, he was the son of the late Herbert and Golda (Woolington) Hamman. On Dec. 19, 1962, he married Phyllis I. Hopkins, who survives.

Ralph was a 1942 Kewanna High School graduate. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion 319, Monterey, and the V.F.W. 6919, Culver. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and playing cards.

He formerly owned and operated the Monterey Lumber Co., retiring in 1987 after 26 years.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis I. Hamman of Monterey; sons, Kenny Hamman and wife, Sue, of Winamac, Brian Hamman and wife, Carolyn, of Culver, Tony Bean and wife, Twyla, of Monterey, and Kevin Bean of Logansport; daughter, Kim Mitch, and husband, Jack, of Yorktown; brother, Ronald Hamman of Kewanna; sisters, Ruth Talbott of Kewanna and Betty Frazie of Fort Wayne; eight granddaughters; six grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and six great-grandsons.

Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Rachel (Galbreath) Hamman, in 1960, and he was also preceded by daughter, Connie Conley; grandson, Christopher Conley; two sisters, Lucille Newcomer and Ginger Good; and two brothers, Herbert “Bud” Hamman and Robert Hamman.

Pastor Glen Meyers will officiate at the services. Burial with military rites will be conducted at a later date at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Robert D. ‘Bob’ Leavell

FULTON - Services for Robert D. “Bob” Leavell, 90, Rochester, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home in Fulton.

He passed away at 11:49 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at WoodBridge Health Campus in Logansport.

He was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Fulton County, the son of Clyde and Ruth Marsh Leavell. On March 14, 1941, in Star City, he was married to Marie Boldry, and she survives.

Mr. Leavell had been a salesman for Cargil Feed retiring on Jan. 1, 1981. He had also owned and operated the Fulton Feed Mill and farmed. Mr. Leavell had been a member of Fletcher’s Lake United Methodist Church, Fulton Masonic Lodge and Fulton Lions Club. He was Liberty Township trustee for 10 years and fire chief for the Fulton-Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years. He enjoyed camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Leavell, Rochester; sons, Joe and wife, Alice Leavell, Carmel, Jerry and wife, Betty Leavell, Rochester, Jack and wife, Nancy Leavell, Cary, N.C., Jeff and wife, Diane Leavell, Fenton, Mo.; daughters, Judy and husband, Ken Uiselt, Mercer, Pa., Joan and husband, Wayne Steele, Rochester; grandchildren, Darla Mitchell, Dennis Leavell, Todd Leavell, Tina Burns, Michelle Leavell, Parry Leavell, Amy Horne, Leann Doty, Kris Tighe, Ken Uiselt, Ryan Steele, Lindsey Mulholland, Jamie Leavell, Jessica Rockwell, Brittany Leavell, and Rob Leavell; 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul and wife, Donna Leavell, Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Jim and wife, Martha Leavell, Cheyenne, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

The Rev. Dave Sommers will officiate. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services Monday at the funeral home. Masonic services will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the Arthritis Foundation.
