Chase M. Tennant
Chase Marshall Tennant, 4 months, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997 at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 3, 1996 at Indianapolis to Bradley and Kimberly (Marshall) Tennant of Wabash.
In addition to his parents, other survivors include grand-parents Stan and LuAnn Tennant of Warsaw, Monte and Donna Fowerbaugh of Laketon, and Kent and Kris Marshall of North Manchester. Also, great grand-mothers Marge Tennant of War-saw and Dene Marshall of North Manchester; and great grand-parents Kenneth and Erma Wal-ters of Akron and Todd and Norma Rager of Roann. He was preceded in death by two great grandpas.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Fu-neral Service, North Manch-ester, with Pastor J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Preferred memorials are to Riley Children's Hospital, Indi-anapolis.

Lauren W. Werking
Lauren Wright Werking, 86, of 12118N 500E, North Manch-ester, died on his birthday, Fri-day, Jan. 31, 1997 at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born Jan. 31, 1911 in Chester Township, Wabash County, to William H. and Laura May (Wright) Werking, both deceased.
He married Mary Jane Sells in North Manchester Nov. 4, 1931. He was a retired farmer, a mem-ber of the Congregational Chris-tian Church of North Manch-ester, a member of the Chester Township Farm Bureau, and was a 30-year member and past president of the Fairview Ceme-tery Association Board of Direc-tors.
In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by a son, Duane Edward Werking and a daughter, Arlene L. Barney, all of North Manchester; a brother Arden Werking of North Manchester and a sister, Thelma Miller of Huntington; two grandchildren and a great granddaughter. Four sisters, two brothers and a grandson pre-ceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997 at Bender Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Fu-neral Service, and burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, or the Congregational Christian Church.

David H. Schaaf
David Hueston Schaaf, 62, of 312 W. Sinclair St., Wabash, IN died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997 at the Ft. Wayne V.A. Hospital in Allen County. He was born in Wabash County to Hueston E. and Rosetta R. (Slagal) Schaaf of Silver Lake, IN.
He was a former employee of Wabash Electric. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post #15, a member of the Elks Lodge of Wabash, American Vets of Marion, IN, and Eagles Lodge of Wabash, IN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include sons Scott Schaaf of Pearland, TX and Jeff Schaaf of Mesa, AZ; a daughter, Karen Schannep of Mesa, AZ; a brother Peter Schaaf of Leesburg, IN; sisters Mrs. Jacob (Doris) Overholt of Marion, IN; Mrs. Louis (Barbara) Fruit of Silver Lake; Mrs. Leigh (Becky) Jackson of Melbourn, FL, and Mrs. Jay (Pat) Nicholas of South Bend; and a grandson, Kyle David Schaaf of Mesa, AZ. Three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services was held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997 at Edding-field-DeLaughter Mortuary, Wabash, with Rev. Jerry Travis officiating. Burial was in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery where a military graveside service was conducted.

Dr. Worth M. Walrod, Jr.
Dr. Worth M. Walrod, Jr., 62, of Farren Healthcare Center, Turners Falls, Mass., died Jan. 29, 1997 at Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, Mass. He was born Dec. 8, 1934 at Ft. Wayne, IN to Dr. Worth M. and Janice (Fawcus) Walrod, Sr.
He was a Doctor of Internal Medicine, employed at South Boston, MA., having graduated from Central High School in 1952 and completed pre-med at Manchester College. He graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery, Kirksville, MO. He was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Janice Walrod of North Manchester; sons Worth M. Walrod, III of Dedham, MA and Mark Walrod of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Mrs. William H. (Jeannine) Corbett of Lafayette, IN; and a grandchild.
Funeral service was held Sun-day, Feb. 2, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester with Dr. William Hemmig officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the donor's choice.

Bernard Holley
Bernard Holley, 58, of 1211 Falls Ave., Wabash, IN died Jan. 30, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash. He was born Aug. 16, 1938 to Chester J. and Eva Ellen (Copeland) Holley, Sr.
He was a lifetime resident of Wabash County. He retired from USG Interiors, in Wabash in January 1996 after 37 years. He was married to Rena Sue Lyons Aug. 13, 1960 in Wabash. He was a member of the Wabash American Legion Post 15, the Wabash Moose Lodge, and was an Air Force Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Wabash; three sons - Michael J., Donald Ray, and Vincent Jay, all of Wabash; three sisters - Mrs. John (Viola) Lehner and Mrs. Richard (Darlene) Graf, both of Wabash, and Mrs. Carl (Pat) Maas of Lowell, IN; a brother Robert Holley of Wabash, and three grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held at the Manchester Avenue Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen, Wabash, Saturday, Feb. 1, the Rev. Venney VanHoose officiating, with cremation to follow.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.

Robert E. Steele
Robert E. Steele, 87, of 6685 E. 117th St., Crown Point, IN, died Jan. 29, 1997 at St. Anthony's Skilled Care of Crown Point, IN. He formerly resided at Aurora, IL and Laketon, IN. He was born Jan. 17, 1910 at Auburn, IN to Ernest and Cecil (Harb) Steele.
A graduate of Laketon High School, Mr. Steele was a superintendent and consultant for Stephens & Adamson of Aurora, IL. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Aurora, IL.
He married Ruth Mercer in 1934 and she preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Steven Steele of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren - Sherri Steele-Bennett of Arlington, TX, Darcy Ferrara of Clarksville, TN, and Tony Steele of Chicago, IL; a great-granddaughter, Kortney Bennett of Arlington; and two sisters, Elizabeth Siberts of North Manchester and Lois Franklin of Knoxville, TN.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 1, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester; burial was in Pleas-ant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to First Christian Church of Aurora, IL.

Ruth Speicher
Ruth (Wendel) Speicher, 81, died at her home in Winter Haven, FL January 19, 1997. She is survived by her husband, Joe Speicher. She was a sister to the late Paul Wendel and Wilma Heeter, both of North Manch-ester.

Clara I. Dickey
Clara I. Dickey, 92, of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Monday, Feb. 3, 1997 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 25, 1904 at Liberty Mills,. IN to Peter and Mary (Cunningham) Roberts.
She was a homemaker, first married to Ernest Gugle, Sept. 9, 1933 and he died Nov. 18, 1944. Her second marriage was to Millard Dickey Oct. 20, 1951 and he died March 2, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary Ann) Rohrer of North Manchester; three stepdaughters - Frances White of Texas, Mrs. Kenneth (Rose Marie) Miller of St. Louis, MO, and Mrs. Edgar (Anna Lois) Gump of Denver, CO; a step son, Kenneth Dickey of Silver Lake; a sister, Celeste Sites of North Manchester; three grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren; four great grandchildren and 22 step great grandchildren, and one great great step grandchild. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997 at Timbercrest Chapel with the Rev. Mark Flora-Swick officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Retirement Community. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Bert Alger
Leo Bert Alger, 81, of 2641 E. Singer Rd., North Manchester, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997 at his residence. He was born Jan. 18, 1916 in Wabash County to Hugh and Lela (Ogden) Alger, both deceased.
He married Helen Gurtner in Lafayette, IN on May 1, 1945, and she survives. A lifetime resident of Wabash County, he was a member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church, a farmer, and a substitute driver for the U.S. Postal Service for eight years. He was a 1934 graduate of Laketon High School, and was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Archie Alger of North Manchester; daughters Mrs. Joseph (Anita) Krom of Argos, IN and Teresa Migliorini of North Manchester; a brother, Ogden Alger and a sister, Gladys Dilling, both of North Manchester; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service Wednesday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel Thursday, Feb. 6, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Dave Inskeep officiating. Burial will take place in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Ijamsville United Methodist Church.

Edith E. Stout
Edith E. Stout, 78, a resident of Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home, died at 6:05 a.m. Feb. 5, 1997 at the home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Bender Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service.

Howard R. Johnson
Howard Ray Johnson, 40, of 9831N 250W, Laketon, IN, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, Indiana. He was born May 6, 1958 at Wabash, IN to Ernest Johnson, Sr. of Servia, IN and Dorothy Jeannie Johnson of Laketon, IN.
A lifelong resident of Laketon, IN, he was a1976 graduate of Manchester High School; and a construction worker for 15 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Wabash; a member of Labor Union Local 213 of Ft. Wayne, IN, son of the American Legion Post #248 of Lagro, IN; and a member of the Abate of Indiana, Inc.
Survivors include his parents; nephews Ernie Johnson III, Dustin Allen Johnson and Kendall Dee Johnson. He was a grandson of the late Fred and Bertha (Granny) Howard of Laketon. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernie Johnson, Jr..
Funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at the Christian Fellowship Church, SR 114E, North Manchester, with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Serving as pall bearers were Billy Howard, Ralph Howard, Mickey Howard, Jay Lambert, Bill Howard and Duane Holle. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Joanne E. Spann
Joanne E. Spann, 71, of 309 Rustic Lane, North Manchester, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Wabash County to the late Ray and Hanna Ruth (Neher) Werking. She married Phil A. Spann May 16, 1947.
A 1945 graduate of Central High School, she was employed as bookkeeper with Heckman Bindery for 10 years, and was owner of Mode O'Day Dress Shop for five years. She was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, and the former E.S.A. Sorority.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons - David and Mark Spann, both of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Steve (Susan) Eckert of Columbia City, IN; two brothers - Jay and John Werking, both of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters - Mrs. Bill (Jeanne) Runkel of North Manchester and Mrs. Gary (Pat) Bonam of Huntington; and three grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998 at the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Kelly Beutler officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Youth for Christ. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha R. Hawbaker
Bertha R. Hawbaker, age 103, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born Feb. 2, 1895 at Hagerstown, IN to Levi and Ella (Widows) Dilling. A homemaker, she married Merlin O. Hawbaker in 1920, and he died in 1949.
She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include two sons - Maurice Hawbaker of Cedar Park, TX and Lyle Hawbaker of Cape Coral, FL; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold ()Eileen) Souder of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren and four step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A brother, a sister, and a son preceded her in death.
Burial was in South Lawn Cemetery, South Bend, IN. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
