Kevin R. Bice
Kevin Ryan Bice, 22, of 5238N 400W, Wabash, IN died Thursday, March 12, 1998. He was born April 11, 1975 at Wabash, IN to Bobby L. and Mary (Fordyce) Bice. He married Billie Jo Sumpter Sept. 6, 1997.
He was a 1994 graduate of Wabash High School. He was a member of Wabash Moose Lodge and affiliated with First Church of God. He worked at Jefferson Smurfit in Wabash.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Bobby L. Bice of Wabash; his mother, Mary Welsh of Wabash; brothers Arnie Bice of LaFontaine and Bobby L. Bice II of Urbana; step father William Welsh of Wabash; grandparents Mrs. Arthur (Cleo) Fordyce of Wabash, Irene Welsh of Eaton, IN and Harvey J. Welsh of Albany, IN.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 16 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel with the Rev. Terry Canfield officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.

Paul R. Rife
Paul R. Rife, 81, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community and formerly of Silver Lake, died Tuesday, March 17, 1998 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born March 12, 1917 in Northern Miami County to Wilford and Jennie (Weller) Rife. He was a farmer, and was mar-ried to Esther M. Young March 5, 1944; she died Nov. 19, 1993.
A 1935 graduate of Chili High School, he was a member of the West Eel River church of the Brethren, and the Chain of Lakes Barbershop Chorus (Columbia City Chapter).
Survivors include three sons - Ronald E. Rife of Celina, OH, Allan D. Rife of Jeffersonville, IN, and Randall E. Rife of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Melody) Reeves of Plainfield, IN; broth-ers Lamoine Rife of Indianapolis and Lorraine Rife of Kokomo; and a sister, Mrs. Harold (Nadine) McAllister of Chili, IN; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call Thursday, Mar. 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel and from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter McKee Mortuary, as well as one hour prior to funeral service. Funeral will be held Friday, March 20,1998 at 10:00 a.m. at West Eel River Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Lester Young officiating, and as-sisted by Pastor Paul Tinkel. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of ar-rangements. Preferred memo-rials are to the Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home.

Walter E. Kiser
Walter E. Kiser, 78, of 14275N 300W, Silver Lake, IN, died Monday, March 17, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Dec. 14, 1918 at Lafayette, IN to Alonzo and Sarah (Richmond) Kiser, both deceased. He mar-ried Maxine Weimer April 9, 1939 and she survives.
Mr. Kiser was a farmer and school bus driver for Manchester Community Schools for 48 years. He enjoyed being of ser-vice to his community and served on the Wabash County 4-H Fair Board, the Soil Conserva-tion Advisory Board, and the Wabash County Zoning Board of Appeals for 25 years. He was a member of the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Maxine, include three sons - Phillip Kiser of Terre Haute, Stephen Kiser of Clarks Summit, PA, and Patrick Kiser of Indi-anapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Ken (Rebecca) Vanderpool of Fort Wayne; three sisters - Mrs. R.J. (Estella) Seymour of Sheridan, IN, Mrs. Garl (Dorothy) Ervin of Marion, OH, and Mrs. Lois Maxine Rakoczy of Huntington, IN; and nine grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers and a daughter.
Friends may call Thursday, Mar. 20, 1997 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at De-Laughter-McKee Mortuary with the Revs. John Kreps and Sam Hann officiating. Burial will be in Mississinewa Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Torron Mission of Cuba, New Mexico, and the Manchester Bible Christian School.

L. Marie Miller
L. Marie Miller, 95, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died at Timbercrest Jan. 10, 1997. She was born at Vir-den, IL to Amos O. and Alice A. (Smith) Brubaker, both de-ceased. She married Walter D. Miller Aug. 23, 1935 and he died March 1, 1994.
She was retired from Milford Elementary School as a teacher. She was a member of the Lib-erty Mills Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by daughters Wanda E. Miller of North Manchester and Carol J. Miller of Elgin, IL; and two grandchil-dren. A brother preceded her in death. Memorial service will be held Sunday, March 23, 1997, 3:30 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel with the Revs. Mark Flora-Swick and Bruce Hostetler offi-ciating. Burial is in Pleasant Hill Ceme-tery, North Manch-ester. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary handled arrange-ments.
Preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Endowment Fund.

William "Bob" Roy
William "Bob" Roy, 57, of 3645W 1200N, Columbia City, IN died March 14, 1997 at Reha-bilitation Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born Sept. 13, 1939 at Cabell, W.V. to Dennis and Normal Gay (Hodge) Roy. He married Mari-lyn Sue Richard May 29, 1964 and she survives.
Mr. Roy was employed as a service technician at Blue Flame of North Manchester for 21 years.
He was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, William "Bob" Roy Jr. of North Manch-ester; daughters Mrs. Ron (Debbie) Flaugh of Hunting-ton, IN and Miss Misty D. Roy, at home; brothers Dennis Jr. Roy and Ernest M. Roy, both of Lesage, W.V.; sisters Mrs. Jim (Marlene) Smith of Hunting-ton, W.V. and Mrs. David (Shirley) Armstrong of Chesa-peake, OH; and three grand-children. A sis-ter preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 17 at DeLaugh-ter-McKee Mortuary with the Rev. Thomas Turner officiating. Burial was in Oak-lawn Ceme-tery, North Manch-ester.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer So-ciety. DeLaughter-McKee Mor-tuary was in charge of arrange-ments.

Robert W. White
Robert W. White, 92, of 7337W 200N, Wabash, IN died Satur-day, March 15, 1997 at Commu-nity Care Center of Wabash. He was born Dec. 22, 1904 in Wabash County to William and Nora (Melick) White, both deceased.
He married Bernice Engelman April 11, 1930 and she died March 5, 1997. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Bache-lor Creek Church of Christ, and a 50+ year member of the Roann & Hanna Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Robert D. White of Wabash; grandsons Dean and Michael White, both of Wabash; a granddaughter, Cynthia Stude-baker of Beaver Dam Lake; and seven great grandchildren. A daughter, two granddaughters, three sisters and a brother pre-ceded him in death.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday), March 19, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with the Revs. John Leinbaugh and Tony Thomas officiating. Burial was in Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery, located at Somerset, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Bachelor Creek Church of Christ. Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Charles L. Horner
Charles Lewis Horner, 97, of 643 Manchester Ave., Wabash, IN died at his residence Sunday, March 16, 1997. He was born Jan. 25, 1900 at Fredericksburg, IN to Edward T. and Martha E. (Whitehead) Horner. Mr. Horner's ancestors came to In-diana in 1815 from Virginia, after having lived in Jamestown, VA and Williams-burg, VA the previ-ous 200 years. He had lived in Wabash since 1919, coming from Fredericksburg, IN. He also lived 27 years in Detroit, MI.
He was first married to Wilma F. Odle April 21, 1919; she died June 19, 1958. He then married Violetta F. Worrell Dec. 31, 1961 and she died Nov. 23, 1965. His last marriage was to Helen J. Griffith Bartram on March 14, 1970, and she survives.
He was a 67-year member of Wabash Hanna Masonic Lodge #61 F./&A.M., Wabash Ameri-can Legion Post 15, and was a World War I Army Veteran. He was retired from Wabash Gen-eral Tire and Rubber in 1965 and from Wabash Instruments in 1986 where he worked as a machinist.
In addition to his wife, Helen, of Wabash, he is survived by sons Charles E. Horner of Palatka, FL and James F. Horner of Henderson, NV; step sons Bobby Griffith of Coving-ton, KY, and Harold L. Griffith and Max E. Griffith, both of Andrews, IN; stepdaughters Mrs. Richard (Helen) Shanefelt of Andrews, IN and Mrs. Dean (Kay) Eakright of Wabash; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren and 22 step great grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Masonic services were held Tuesday evening at the Grand-staff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel of Wabash, and funeral services were held there today (Wednesday) with the Rev. Bruce Mowery officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.
Arrangements were by Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of Wabash.

Edith Birk
Edith Birk, 85, of Huntington Beach, CA, died Sunday, March 9, 1997 at Costa Mesa Convales-cent Home, Costa Mesa, CA.
She was born Nov. 6, 1912 in Huntington County to Irvin and Ethel (French) Walters. She married Paul Birk August 18, 1937; he died November 14, 1995.
She was a former member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, north of Bippus and a 1930 graduate of Bippus High School.
Survivors include a brother, Galen Walters of Bippus, and a sister, Mrs. Clem (Doris) West-afer of North Manchester. A brother, Raymond, is deceased.
There was no visitation or fu-neral services held. Donation of the body was to the College of Medicine, University of Califor-nia, Irvine, CA.

Penny M. Deal
Penny M. Deal, 54, of 204 Wild Cherry Lane, North Manchester, died at Indian River Memorial Hospital of Vero Beach, FL Thursday, March 11, 1999. Penny was born July 24, 1944 at Wabash, IN to the late John T. and Nora M. (Tschantz) Speicher of North Manchester. She married Joseph G. Deal, who survives, along with a son, Joseph L. and his wife, Jenny, Deal of Fort Wayne.
Other survivors include her mother, Nora M. Speicher, a brother, Jim Speicher of North Manchester and a sister, Peggy Bernardin of Wabash.
Penny was a graduate of Sidney High School, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of North Manchester. She was also a member of Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star. She had previously been employed part time at the News-Journal, Timbercrest Retirement Community, and Eldon Metzger Real Estate. She had been a volunteer at the Town Life Center.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 16, 1999 at the United Methodist Church with Revs. David Inskeep and William Hemmig officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Cancer Society, 5 Maple Court, North Manchester. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Todd Schroll
Todd Schroll, 69, of 8691N 400E, North Manchester, IN, died at his residence Thursday, March 11, 1999. He was born Sept. 16, 1929 in Wabash County to Stuart and Rhea (Klutz) Schroll. He married Doris E. Lefforge who died May 30, 1986.
Survivor includes a son, Randy Schroll of North Manchester.
Mr. Schroll was retired as a repair technician for Allen Business Machines of Fort Wayne. He was a graduate of Chester High School and received the B.A. degree at Indiana University. He was an agent for Jackson National Life Insurance Company.
He was a member of No. Manchester Congregational Christian Church; member of Deming Lodge #88 F & AM of North Manchester, and a member of Mizpah Shrine and Scottish Rite, both of Ft. Wayne.
Masonic services were held Sunday, March 14, 1999 at the DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary. Funeral service was held Monday, March 15, 1999 at the Congregational Christian Church with the Rev. John Curtis officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Hawbaker
Bertha R. Hawbaker, 103, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Dec. 24, 1998 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born at Hagerstown, IN Feb. 2, 1895 to Levi and Ella (Widows) Dilling.
She was a homemaker, married to Merlin O. Hawbaker in 1920, and who preceded her in death in 1949.
She is survived by two sons - Maurice Hawbaker of Cedar Park, TX and Lyle Hawbaker of Cape Coral, FL; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Eileen) Souder of Santa Fe, N.M.; four grandchildren and four step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, and one grandchild.
Friends may call one-half hour prior to the memorial service which will be held Saturday, March 20, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Timbercrest Chapel. Rev. Susan Boyer will officiate. The cremains will be buried at South Lawn Cemetery of South Bend, IN following the memorial service. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew Binkerd
Andrew Binkerd, 73, of 1805 McKibben St., Wabash, IN, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 at his residence. He was born May 23, 1925 in Butler Twp., Miami County, IN to Andrew and Goldie (Mughmaw) Binkerd, both deceased. He married Eileen Gribben at Lafontaine, IN on May 4, 1947.
He was a member of the Peoria Church in Miami County; the Wabash American Legion Post 15; and the Indiana Auctioneer's Association. He was a retired farmer and auctioneer for more than 50 years. He also owned A.B. Pig Sales for more than 20 years. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in seven countries in the European Theater, and was a standing guard daily for Eisenhower and Churchill in 1943.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Wabash; a son, Ronald J. Binkerd of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Becky) Ward of Fisher, IN; a brother, Ed Binkerd of Peru, IN and a sister Bernice Bebout of North Vernon, IN; and five grandchildren. A sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held today, Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with Rev. Melissa Rice officiating. Burial was in Mississinewa Memorial Cemetery located at Somerset, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Peoria Church or Springside Life Care Center. Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
