Levi D. Long
Levi Daniel Long, 84, of 5413E 150S, Rochester, IN, died March 3, 1997 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, IN. He was born Nov. 8, 1912 at Quinter, KS to Elmer and Rebecca (Wolf) Long. He married Fern Niccum August 23, 1937 in Modesto, CA.
He was a farmer and a member of the Old German Baptist Church in North Manchester. He was a resident of Fulton County since 1996, previously of 721 N. Mill St. In North Manchester.
Survivors include his wife, Fern of Rochester; sons Donald R. Long of Roann, Larry L. Long of Silver Lake, and Galen D. Long of North Manchester; daughters Mrs. David (Lois A.) Kimmel of Rochester and Mrs. Eddy (Margaret H.) Bayles of North Manchester; a brother, William Long of Modesto, CA; and sisters Bessie Lawes and Anna Riggs, both of Quinter, KS; 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A daughter, four brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, North Manchester, Wednesday (today) March 5, from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 6, 1997 in the Old German Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. with the Home Brethren officiating. Burial will be in the Old German Baptist Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service.

Thelma Jerew Hotmer
Thelma J. Jerew Hotmer, 75, of 12600N SR 13, North Manchester, IN died Feb. 28, 1997 at Millers Merry Manor East N.H., Wabash, IN. She was born June 19, 1921 at Wabash, IN to Guy Asher and Charlotte Hannah Forbes.
She first married Duane Jerew on Sept. 19, 1941 in Brazil, IN and he died July 26, 1967. Her second marriage was to Donald Hotmer in 1976 and he died April 19, 1995. Thelma was a secretary at the North Manchester Foundry from 1968-1976, and was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren. She was also active for many years in the Tribal Trails Girl Scout Council. She was a lifetime resident of Wabash County, and a 1938 graduate of Wabash High School.
Thelma is survived by daughters Ginny Brubaker of North Manchester and Lisa Sites of South Charleston, OH; a sister, Wilma Howell of Wabash, and a brother, John Forbes of Lima, OH; also five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 4, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service.

Casimir A. Ehret
Casimir A. Ehret, 80, of 774 Berkley Dr., Wabash, IN died Sunday, March 2, 1997 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, LaFontaine, IN. He was born Feb. 12, 1917 at Gretna, LA to Casimir John and Leona (Capdeville) Ehret, both deceased. He married Mattie Wills Dec. 18, 1941 in Gretna, LA.
Mr. Ehret was a member of the Wabash St. Bernard Catholic Church. He had worked at the Marrero, LA Celotex plant until 1946. He then transferred to the Celotex plant in Lagro, IN where he worked as the project engineer and maintenance supervisor until his retirement in 1979. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He attended Louisiana State University four years, and had lived in Wabash since 1946, coming from Marrero, LA.
Survivors include his wife Mattie of Wabash; a son Thomas C. Ehret of Wabash; a daughter, Patricia M. Sutton of Fort Wayne; brothers John Ehret, Royce Ehret and Raymond Ehret, all of New Orleans, LA; and a sister, Leona Uhlich, also of New Orleans, LA; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday), March 5, 1997 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair St., Wabash, with Fr. Tim Wrozek officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara J. Frischman
Barbara J. Frischman, 65, of 1101 Indian Hills Dr., Wabash, IN, died Sunday, March 2, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital Skilled Care unit. She was born Sept. 18, 1931 at Indianapolis, IN to Carlos and Geraldine (Harper) Ping, both deceased. A homemaker, she married Dr. Ronald M. Frischman July 9, 1955, and he survives.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Wabash.
Other survivors include sons and their spouses - Mr. and Mrs. Mark (Michelle) Frischman of Peru, Dr. and Mrs. David (Cyndi) Frischman of Wabash, and Brian Frischman of Morton Grove, IL; daughters Pam Frischman of Wabash, and Mr. and Mrs. Murray (Amy) Frischman of Jacksonville, FL; brothers Dr. Donald Ping of Warren, IN and Curtis Ping of Indianapolis; a sister, Mabel Updike of Indianapolis; six grandchildren - Travis, Andrew and Lauren all at home, Jessica Frischman of Silver Lake, Austin and Michael Glendenning, of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4, 1997 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Wabash, with Pastor James Engel officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, or to the Donor's choice. Arrangements were by Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home of Peru, IN.

Theodore A. Schultz
Theodore A. Schultz, 99, a former Cleveland Township resident, died Saturday, March 1, 1997 at Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester. He was born April 9, 1897 in Wells, MN. His formative years were spent in Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota and Oregon. During World War I, he served in France with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Schultz was a graduate of the Army School of Music and following his return from the war, resided in Washington, D.C. where he played the tuba in the Army Band. He also played the tuba and saxophone for the Washington D.C. Police Band and the Washington Orchestra.
Mr. Schultz served as a White House policeman, now known as the Secret Service, for 20 years under the administrations of four presidents - Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower, retiring in 1953.
In 1951, he began a hobby of cutting, polishing, and engraving semi precious stones from all over the world. Three of his stones are on display at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
On July 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mildred E. Ward and they made their home in Washington. In 1964, they moved to his wife's family farm near South Whitley, IN; Mrs. Schultz died Aug. 22, 1996.
He was a member of the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Columbia City, the Three Rivers Gem and Mineral Society and the Fort Wayne Chapter of Beekeepers.
He is survived by great nieces and nephews. Five sisters - Clara, Hedwig, Veronica, Mary and Elizabeth and two brothers - Lewis and Bernard preceded him in death.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 5, 1997 in the Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley, with Father Sextus Don of the St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.

Marjorie E. Cordes
Marjorie E. Cordes, 69, of 6738N Bowman Road, Roann, IN, died Feb. 28, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born May 2, 1927 at Lincoln, NE to Albert L. and Gladys Esther (Way) Sack. She married Clifford D. Cordes May 15, 1948, and he survives.
Mrs. Cordes was a member of the Roann Church of the Brethren, Timbercrest Retirement Community Auxiliary, and was past president of the Indiana State Soil and Water Conservation District Auxiliary. She and her husband participated in an Archaeological Dig in Jerusalem in 1983. She was a volunteer worker for the Church of the Brethren Response Team. She was a 1943 graduate of Surprise High School in Surprise, NE.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters Mrs. John (Gail) Byrum of Twelve Mile, IN, and Mrs. Peggy Morris of Wabash; sons Clifton (Corky) D. Cordes and Kevin S. Cordes, both of Roann; a sister, Mrs. Olive Rose Engle of Panora, IA and a brother Lewis Ellery Sack of Omaha, NE; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 4, 1997 at the Roann Church of the Brethren with Pastors Kurt Snyder and Bruce Hostetler officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made to the Timbercrest Auxiliary or the Church of the Brethren Disaster Response Program.
Roann Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen was in charge of arrangements.

R. Ray Clark
Royal Ray "Razor" Clark, 53, of 11237S 500W, Silver Lake, IN, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born August 16, 1944 at South Bend,. IN, the son of Delmer and Margaret (Brown) of Silver Lake, IN.
He was a farmer and a parts manager for Kerlin Tractor Sales of Silver Lake for 34 years. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1962 and was also an auctioneer for the past 15 years. He was a 30-year member of the Silver Lake Fire Department, a 25-year member of the Silver Lake Lions Club, and a member of the Indiana Auctioneers Association. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1518, Eagles Lodge, and the American Legion, all of North Manchester. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He married Susan E. Leckrone May 25, 1968 who survives, along with a son, Robert R. Clark of Silver Lake; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Lynch of Claypool, and his parents Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Clark of Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Alan Clark in 1977.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 29, 1998 at the Center United Methodist Church, SR 15N, Silver Lake, IN with the Rev. Martha Cory officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery of Silver Lake.
Preferred memorials are to the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Stella Mollett
Stella Mollett, 94, of 451 Congress St., Wabash, IN, died Sunday, March 29, 1998 at Community Care Center of Wabash. She was born Feb. 19, 1904 at Boone's Camp, KY to Melvin and Minnie (Daniels) Dutton. She married John C. Penix in Boone's Camp, KY in 1925; he died in 1944. Stella owned and operated Penix Grocery in Paintsville 40 years. She was a member of the Old United Baptist Church in Packerton, IN.
She is survived by three sons - Port Penix of Wabash, Joe Penix of Paintsville, KY and John Penix of Meally, KY; 26 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a daughter, three grandchildren, and a sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at Jones & Preston Funeral Home, Paintsville, KY with burial to take place in the Daniels Cemetery, located at Johnson County, KY.
Local arrangements are by Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, of Wabash.

Neva B. Royer
Neva B. Royer, 82, of 9 Maple Court, North Manchester, IN 46962 died at her residence Saturday, March 28, 1998. She was born Sept. 22, 1915 at Burlington, IN to Price and Elsie (Thomas) Bailey. She married Max J. Royer Dec. 25, 1939, and he died July 13, 1997.
She was a member of the Northview Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis and Chapter 364, Order of the Eastern Star of Irvington (Indianapolis), and the Indianapolis Chapter of ADK (Alpha Delta Kappa).
She was a graduate of Manchester College and held a Master's Degree from Butler University in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school for more than 30 years in Winona Lake, IN and Warren and Washington Township in Indianapolis. After retiring in 1979 she helped her husband in the real estate appraisal business. She lived in North Manchester since 1993, coming from Indianapolis where she lived for 50 years.
The is survived by a son, Thomas Jay (Catherine) Royer of Adrian, MI, and two brothers, Billy Reed Bailey of Cape Coral, FL and Eugene Leland Bailey of Mesa, AZ.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at Peabody Chapel, North Manchester, with the Revs. Lester Young and Robert Schmeiser officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery of North Manchester.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Caring Circle at Peabody Retirement Community, or Northview Church of the Brethren, Indianapolis, or North Winona Church of the Brethren in Kosciusko County, IN.

Joe Bradley
Joe Bradley, 76, of 1103 W. Main St., North Manchester, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at his residence. He was born in Magoffin County, KY to Sam and Gracie (Arnett) Bradley.
He was an employee of Peabody Seating Company for 15 years.
He married Betty Hale Jan. 25, 1938, and she survives, along with six sons - Phil E. Bradley of Sidney, IN, Carlos B. Bradley of Syracuse, IN, Sam D. Bradley and Ralph J. Bradley, both of North Manchester, and Gordon R. Bradley and Joe D. Bradley, both of Warsaw, IN; four daughters - Mrs. Ray (Patricia A.) Cumberland of Silver Lake, Mrs. Danny (Sharlon K.) Castle of North Manchester, Mrs. Curtis (Betty Jo) Robinson and Mrs. Lowell (Wanda L.)Teagle, both of Kokomo, IN; two brothers, Glessner "Toad" Bradley of Servia, IN and Sam H. Bradley of Silver Lake, IN; a sister, Mrs. Avis (Jurlean) Salyer of Wabash; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Northern Little Dove Old Regular Baptist Church of Sidney, IN; burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN. The Rev. Arthur Jay Hale officiated.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Lewis Whitaker
Lewis Whitaker, 73, of 302 Sycamore St., Silver Lake, IN, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998 at Parkview Memorial Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was born April 28, 1924 in Magoffin County, KY to the Rev. Willie and Brozie (Sloan) Whitaker, both deceased.
He was an employee of Nickel Plate Railroad for 18 years, and was retired as a carpenter; he was a member of the Carpenter's Union for 25 years. He was a member of the Silver Lake Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, of which his father, Rev. Willie Whitaker, was co-founder.
He married Jane Allen Jan. 25, 1949 and she survives, along with a son Ronnie (Brenda) Whitaker of Pierceton, step-sons Delmar Shepherd of Warsaw and R.D. Shepherd of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Linda) Baker of Silver Lake; a brother, Jesse Whitaker of Silver Lake; five sisters - Mrs. Wayne (Nora) Irwin of Wildwood, FL, Oralee Shepherd of Claypool, IN, Mrs. Butler (Annie) Owens of Silver Lake, Mrs. Clayton (Vina) Cleveland and Mrs. German (Zora) Sparks, both of Warsaw; 17 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. A stepson, three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, March 27, 1998 at the Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake, IN with the Rev. Frank Whitaker officiating. He was buried at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
