Averrell E. Kreis
Averrell E. "Joe" Kreis, 89, of Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, IN, and formerly of Beaver Dam and Silver Lake, died Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at Miller's Merry Manor. He was born Sept. 4, 1909 at Seward Township, Kosciusko Co., IN to Franklin and Florence (Perry) Kreis. He married Jeanette Enos May 20, 1933; she preceded him in death.
He was retired from Supreme Auger in 1974. He had also been employed with the Kosciusko County and Indiana State Highway Departments.
He is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Rex (Dianne) Clinker of Silver Lake, and Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Yoder of Goshen; three sons, Donald Kreis of Milford, IN, Boyd Kreis of Quincy, MI, and Burton Kreis of Claypool, IN; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Funeral service was held Saturday, April 17, 1999 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, Silver Lake Chapel with Rev. Charles French officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.

Mary I. Bowman
Mrs. Mary Idell Bowman, 85, of 301 N. Second St., Apt. 1, Bridgewater, VA 22812, died suddenly Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. Born June 15, 1913 in Ottumwa, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Rev. S. Leslie and Dulcie Lovie (Williams) Cover. She was the wife of the late Rev. Clarence Rufus Bowman, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Bowman graduated from Bluffton (OH) College and Bethany Biblical Seminary of Chicago, IL. She was an organist, choir director and chorister. She directed a number of youth in dramatic productions.
Following Rev. and Mrs. Bowman's retirements in 1976 from serving Church of the Brethren congregations in Maryland, Virgina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, California and Florida, Mrs. Bowman had been a member of the Bridgewater Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Ann Boyd of Sagertown, PA; two sons, Rev. Robert Cover Bowman of North Manchester, IN and Rev. John David Bowman, of Lititz, PA; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. Bowman was the last of her immediate family, being predeceased by two brothers.
Interment service was held Friday, April 16, at Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood, MD, with Rev. Fred Bowman officiating. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 17, at the Bridgewater College Chapel, with grandson, Rev. Christopher D. Bowman, officiating. The family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the Memorial Fund of Bethany Theological Seminary, 6415 National Rd. W., Richmond, IN 47374-4095.

Ileana M. Brandenburg
Ileana M. ("Jake") Brandenburg, 69, of 437 So. First St., Pierceton, IN, died April 11, 1999 at her residence. She was born Sept. 4, 1929 at Liberty Mills, IN to Robert and Evelyn (Calhaun) Fitch in Kosciusko County where she was a resident since 1950.
She was married Feb. 4, 1950 to Harold Brandenburg, who preceded her in death April 6, 1999. She retired from Heckman Bindery in 1991 after 34 years service.
She is survived by three daughters - Bonnie E. Brandenburg and Linda Renschler, both of South Whitley, and Kay Miller of Warsaw; two sons - Harold Brandenburg of North Manchester and Robert Brandenburg of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters - Phyliss Dobea of Pierceton, Jean Verona of Hartford City, and Peggy Walker of North Manchester. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 14, 1999 at the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel of Pierceton, with Pastor Ron Sheranko officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery of Pierceton.
Preferred memorials are to the Pierceton Community Citizens Service Agency.

Harold R. Wood
Graveside services will be held Sunday, April 25, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. for Harold R. Wood, 67, of 708 Grant St., North Manchester, who died Thursday, Feb . 25, 1999 at Ft. Wayne Lutheran Hospital. He was the son of the late Dale A. and Florence E. (Gall) Wood, and was retired from General Telephone Company.
The service will take place at Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, Indiana. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Elmer E. Wolf
Elmer E. Wolf, 83, of 118 W. Lakeside Dr. (Sandy Beach) North Manchester, IN, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born April 15, 1914 in Wabash County to George E. and Estella P. (Hipskind) Wolf. He married Sarah C. Blocher July 11, 1937 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Linlawn High School in 1935. He was a truck driver for 38 years, having retired from Unger Trucking of Wabash, IN. He also had driven truck for many years for ATL Truck Lines of Grand Rapids, MI. He was a member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard E. Wolf of Woodville, OH; daugh-ters Carolyn Egner of North Manchester, Mrs. Dan (Rosemarie) Showalter of Bron-son, MI, and Mrs. Roy (Cathrine) Miten of San Jose, CA; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Wolf of Origon, OH; a brother, Robert Wolf of Fort Wayne; sis-ters Mrs. Ray (Helen) Hardman and Mrs. Norval (Anna) Faurot Jr., both of North Manchester, and Mary Margaret Stratton of Lake Charles, Louisiana; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one step-great grandchild. One son, Steve L. Wolf, and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, April 26, 1997 at the De-Laughter-McKee Mortuary, who were in charge of arrangements at North Manchester. The Rev. David Inskeep officiated, and burial was in the Old German Baptist Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Ijamsville United Methodist Church or Wabash County Heart Fund.

W. Ray Piper
Walter Ray Piper, 92, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Saturday, April 26, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was born May 18, 1904 in Grant County, IN to Edward and Ethel Mae (Winger) Piper. He married Ethel Mary Bentz Nov. 4, 1926 and she survives.
He was a retired farmer and owner of Piper Construction Company, North Manchester. He was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Ray was known to his family as a good husband, father, and grandfather. His friends and associates remember him as singing in quartets and choruses. He played on All-Star baseball, softball, and bowling teams, horse shoe pitching, and mushroom hunting. He enjoyed pool, shuffle board, euchre and checkers, but most of all he was a great fisherman. Ray and Ethel have fished in waters from Canada to Florida.
Ray and Ethel lived their early married life in the Warsaw area. Later they farmed east of Liberty Mills and northwest of North Manchester. During the late 1940s, they moved to North Manchester where Ray was engaged in construction. He was also a good mason, having built several homes in the area, including the main building at Koinonia.
Ray and Ethel celebrated 70 years of happy married life Nov. 4, 1996.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Virgil Ray Piper and Max Lamar Piper, both of North Manchester, Paul Dean Piper of Kenton, OH and Duane Eugene Piper of Hollywood, FL; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grand children and three great-great grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 29, 1997 at Timbercrest Chapel with the Revs. Lester Young and Helen Beery officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, N. Manch-ester.
Preferred memorials are to Heifer Project, or to Timbercrest's Crestwood Project. DeLaughter McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Arline R. Kline
Arline R. Kline, 81, of 11372 S. SR 13, Claypool, IN, died Satur-day, April 26, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born April 16, 1916 at Roann, IN to George and Maude (Lowe) Needham. She married Robert S. Kline Nov. 16, 1935 and he preceded her in death Sept. 27, 1993.
She was a member of the Church of the Brethren. She graduated from Roann High School where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. She had also been a cook at Sidney (IN) High School. She was a 17-year employee of Heckman Bindery, North Manchester.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. Kline of Wabash; daughters Mrs. Sam (Sharon) Thomson of Lagro, Mrs. Archie (Connie) Alger and Mrs. Alex (Kristi) Sparks, both of North Manchester, and Mrs. Dewey (Peggy) Davis of Silver Lake; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A grandson and a brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held today, April 30, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary with the Rev. Harry Davis officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery, Roann, IN. Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Heart Fund.

Vina Blevins
Vina Blevins, 93, of Wabash Healthcare, Wabash, IN, died at Wabash County Hospital Sunday, April 27, 1997. She was born May 23, 1903 in Knotts County, Kentucky, to Andrew and Sarah Ann Tackett. She married Frank Blevins Dec. 1, 1927 and he preceded her in death June 25, 1995.
She had served as a cook at Peabody Home.
She is survived by sons Estill Blevins and Elmer Blevins, both of North Manchester, and Charles Blevins of Portsmouth, OH; daughters Mrs. Betty Perry of Omar, W. Virginia and Mrs. Danny (Minnie) Nickels of North Manchester; 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Two sons preceded her in death.
Friends may call at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary today (Wednesday) from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 1, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Florence E. Arthur
Florence E. Arthur, 79, of 115 W. Lakeside Dr., North Manchester, died Saturday, April 26, 1997 at her home. She was born Dec. 28, 1917 in Franklin County, IN to Harry and Sylvia (Belangee) Alford.
She was an office secretary for 21 years at McCoy & Douglas, Inc.
There are no immediate survivors; two brothers preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Church of the Open Bible, Indianapolis, IN, the Women of the Moose, and the Eagles Auxiliary, both of North Manchester.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, April 29, 1997 at the IOOF Cemetery, LaFontaine, IN with the Rev. Dale Kelsey officiating. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Norman A. Dawald
Norman A. Dawald, 81, of 6143N 400E, North Manchester, died April 27,1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was born Dec.13, 1915 at Deedsville, IN to Sam and Marie (Norman) Dawald, both deceased. He married Catherine E. Allmann Jan. 29, 1949 in Urbana, IN. He was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ in Wabash, and a retired farmer. Mr. Dawald had lived in the rural Urbana area since 1945.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine E. Dawald of North Manchester, and a daughter Mrs. Jeff (Beverly J.) Peterson of Indianapolis, IN.
Funeral service was held this morning, Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Bender Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen, North Manchester, with the Rev. John Lein-baugh officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.

Margaret J. Gernert
Margaret J. Gernert, 89, a res-ident of Peabody Retirement Community, N. Manchester, IN and former resident of Somerville, N.J., died at Wabash County Hospital Tues-day, May 13, 1997. She was born Dec. 13, 1907 at Long Is-land, N.Y. to Charles Frederick and Adelia (Seaman) Jeffs.
She married Eugene Henry Gernert Feb. 18, 1928 in Somerville, NJ, and he died Nov. 26. 1962. She was a homemaker, and attended the North Manch-ester United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Century Chapter #100 O.E. of Somerville, N.J. She lived in North Manchester since 1982, coming from Somerville, N.J.
She is survived by daughters, Adele Westman of Roann, IN and Shirley Robbins of Rutledge, PA; a son, Eugene H. Gemert of Las Vegas, NV; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grand-children and two great-great grandchil-dren. Two brothers and five sis-ters preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Peabody Chapel one hour prior to the service to be held Thursday, May 15, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. William Hemmig officiating. Friends may also call at the Speer-Van Arsdale Funeral Home in Somerville, N.J. Satur-day, May 17 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Lee Van Rensburg officiating the Somerville services. Burial will be in the New Cemetery, Somerville, N.J. Preferred memorials are to the Salvation Army.
Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Earl Jackson
Earl Jackson, 70, of 1511S 1275E, Akron, IN, died Monday, May 12, 1997 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne following a year of failing health. He was born Sept. 14, 1926 at Salyersville, KY to John F. and Osie (Stanley) Jackson, both de-ceased.
He was an Akron community resident for the past 40 years, coming from Salyersville, KY. He married Emma Grace Jack-son Dec. 31, 1948 at Warsaw, IN, and she survives at home. He was retired from the Nickle Plate railroad (Norfolk & Western).
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Brenda) Honeycutt of North Manchester; two sons - Ronnie (wife Nancy) Jackson of Rochester, IN and Garrett J. (wife Barbara) Jackson of Lake-ton; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; three sisters - Mrs. Chester (Imogene) Coddle of Claypool, Mrs. Lillie Spraddlin of Warsaw, and Mrs. Maxine Conley of Rochester; three brothers - Desmond Jackson of Warsaw, Harold Jackson of Mentone, and Merl Jackson of Michigan. A daughter, Linda Jackson, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Foster & Good Funeral Home of Akron from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (today) and at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 15, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at the House of Prayer, lo-cated four miles east of Akron, IN with Pastor Danny Honeycutt officiating.
