Allen H. Smith
Allen H. Smith, 83, of Rt. 1, Box 81, Roann, IN died May 23, 1997 at his residence. He was born July 13, 1913 in Wabash County to Harvey and Daisy (Stouffer) Smith, both deceased.
He was first married to F. Imogene Bahney Dec. 22, 1935 in Miami County, IN; she died July 27, 1979. His second marriage was to Clara Barnhisel on April 16, 1983. He was a retired farmer and seed corn salesman for McKillip Seed Corn Co.
A 1932 graduate of Laketon High School, he was a past president of the Laketon Lions Club, served as Pleasant Township A.S.C.S. chairman, Pleasant Township Farm Bureau Vice Chairman, Past President Wabash Co. Plan Commission, Vice Chairman of Wabash County Lions Eye Bank, and was a former Pleasant Twp. Deputy Assessor. He was a former Niconza Baptist Church trustee. He was currently a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Chuch in Roann. He also volunteered for 4-H clubs of Wabash County.
He is survived by his wife, Clara, of Roann; daughters Connie Milam of Silver Lake and Janet Dawson of Fort Wayne; stepdaughter Roberta Struck of Roann; step sons Dennis Barnhisel of Roann and Richard Barnhisel of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren 11 great grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and two sisters.
Funeral service was held Monday, May 26, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel or Roann. The Revs. Richard K. Fox and Mike Barnhisel officiated. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice or Laketon Lions Club.

Violet B. Taylor
Violet B. Taylor, 87, of 543 N. Wabash St., Wabash, IN died June 1, 1997 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash. She was born June 7, 1910 at Newton Stewart, IN to John and Phoebe (Whitmire) Linthicum, both deceased.
She married Rev. Harry H. Taylor in 1928 in Whickliffe, IN; he passed away May 31, 1987, having served as a United Methodist Minister for 50 years.
In addition to serving as a minister's wife for 50 years, she was a homemaker, and a hairdresser for 25 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Christian Women's Association, the Women's Club House and Widows to Widows, all of Wabash.
She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Marian) Connell of Connersville, IN, Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Parks of Dallas, TX, and Mrs. Marvin (Nelda) Love of Wabash; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A son, six brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 3, 1997 at First United Methodist Church of Wabash, with the Rev. Bill Moon officiating. Burial was in Patoka Cemetery, Orange County, IN.
Preferred memorials are to First United Methodist Church, Wabash.

John D. Walters
John Dean (J.D.) Walters, 51, of 9143 Packerton Rd., Claypool, IN, died June 26, 1998 at Memorial hospital, South Bend, IN. He was born Nov. 8, 1946 at Wabash, IN to John F. and Willodean (Cummins) Walters. He married Sue Beck on November 20, 1976 in North Manchester.
He was a member of the Servia United Church of Christ. He owned Walters Plumbing and Heating. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, of Claypool; his parents, John F. and Willodean Walters of Servia; a son, Scott Walters of Servia, and a son, Richard Walters of Akron, IN; daughters Mrs. Eric (Shannon) Ezra of Fort Wayne and Wendy Walters of Claypool; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, with the Rev. David W. Pinkham officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery of Servia.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Miller
Donald Miller, 73, Village Drive, Kissimmee, FL, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998. He was born in Wabash County, IN; he moved to Central Florida in 1997. He embraced the Protestant faith.
Mr. Miller was a retired sales manager for Mettler Instrument Co., Princeton, N.J.
Survivors include his wife, Norma L. Miller of Kissimmee, FL 34746; a son, Mark A. Miller of Golden, Colo.; a daughter, Dora L. Scharabac, Mightstown, N.J.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Conrad & Thompson Funeral Home of Kissimmee was in charge of arrangements.

Frieda Mae Huffman
Frieda Mae Huffman, 100, died Thursday, June 25, 1998 at Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since November 15, 1982.
She was born July 24, 1897 in Whitley County, Indiana, a daughter of Emile and Lasetta (Pyle) Richard. Her formative years were spent on a farm in Washington Township, Whitley County.
In November 1914 she was united in marriage to Delbert F. Huffman. They made their first home on the Don Jordan farm near Liberty Mills. In the late 1940s they moved to Liberty Mills, where they resided until entering the nursing home in 1982; Mr. Huffman died Feb. 4, 1985. She was affiliated with the Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a granddaughter, Norma E. Hammel of Huntington; a grandson, Robert E. Deemer of North Manchester; and a brother, Clyde Richard, formerly of South Whitley.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Walter (Bertha Adel) Deemer; three brothers, Hobert Richard, Frank Richard and Douglas Richard; and an infant sister, Opal Richard.
Graveside service was held Monday, June 29, 1998 at Eberhard Cemetery, West Keiser Road, Columbia city, with Rev. Paul Hunteman, pastor of Eberhard Lutheran Church, officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the American Cancer society or American Diabetes Association. Smith & Sons Funeral Home of Columbia City was in charge of arrangements.

John W. Sites
John William Sites, 46, Rt. 1, Roann, IN, died June 27, 1998 at Metro Health Hospital of Cleveland, OH, the result of an accident related to his construction employment. He was born Sept. 24, 1951 at Peru, IN to Verlon and Miriam (Keyes) Sites. He married Diane Grumpp in Mexico, IN on June 6, 1971.
He was a member of the Olive Branch Church of God, and a 1970 graduate of North Miami High School, and the Upper Wabash Vocational School. He was a carpenter for PES Associates Inc. in Warsaw.
He is survived by his wife, Diane of Roann; his parents Verlon and Miriam Sites of Roann; a daughter, Rewa McKee of Kokomo; a son, Ryan Sites of Roann; a brother, Dennis Sites of North Manchester; a sister, Lorraine Hudson of Roann; and two granddaughters, Josey Lynn Sites and Brianna Jelly, both of Roann.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Roann Chapel today (Wednesday) from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral ser vice will be held Thursday, July 2, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Olive Branch Church of God, with the Revs. Scott Simms and Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial will be in the Enterprise Cemetery located at Rt. 1, Roann/Miami County.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the family of John Sites.

Laura M. Farmer
Laura Marie Farmer, 72, of 514 W. Third St., North Manchester, died Saturday, June 27, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born March 9, 1926 in Floyd County, Kentucky, to George and Martha (Clark) Burchitt, both deceased.
She was a homemaker, married to Bill Farmer on Sept. 24, 1946.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; sons Larry, Paul Douglas, and James Edward Farmer all of North Manchester, and Jerry Randal Farmer of Syracuse; daughters Mrs. James (Golda Sue) Clark and Lois Warren, both of North Manchester; a half brother, Jerry Randal Burchitt of Virgie, KY; half sisters Mrs. Carrie Poe of Liberty Mills and Opal of Michigan; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. Three grandchildren and a brother are deceased.
Funeral service was held today, July 1, 1998 at the Christian Fellowship Church, SR 114E, with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Swank Cemetery, Liberty Mills.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Hutchinson
Helen M. Hutchinson, 94, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at Peabody Healthcare Center in North Manchester. She was born June 28, 1903 at Mount Pleasant, IA to Warren S. and Katherine (Cresap) Hobbs.
She married Howard Hayden Hutchinson June 6, 1925 in Bennett, Iowa and he died Oct. 23, 1973. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She had lived at Peabody Retirement Community since 1991, coming from Iowa.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Ream of Englewood, CO; two sons, Roger Hutchinson of Bella Vista, AK and Richard Hutchinson of Louisville, KY; a sister, Marian Lind of Cedar Rapids, IA; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two brothers preceded her in death.
Memorial service was held Saturday, June 27, 1998 at Peabody Chapel, Peabody Retirement Community; the Rev. Robert Schmeiser officiated. Burial was to take place in Harrison, Arkansas.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Ford Mishler
Ford Mishler, 83, a resident of Life Care Nursing Home of Fort Wayne, IN, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998. He was born March 4, 1915 in Cleveland Township of Whitley County, IN to Harley A. and Ada (Poland) Mishler, both deceased.
He was married Nov. 17, 1937 in the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren to the late Orpha I. Bollinger, a native of Tunker, Washington Township, Whitley County; she died Oct. 8, 1993.
Mr. Mishler, a graduate of South Whitley High School, lived all his life on the Mishler family homestead in Cleveland Township, where he managed and operated the family farm. He was an avid airplane pilot.
He is survived by a son, Harley A. Mishler of South Whitley; a daughter, Mrs. William (Beverly D.) Pyle of Portland, IN; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Leo Metzger of Auburn, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Roland Dallas Mishler.
Pastor David Doubt of the Spring Creek Church of the Brethren, rural South Whitley, IN, officiated at pri vate graveside services held at the South Whitley Cemetery. Saturday, June 27, 1998. DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Funeral Home of Columbia City, IN was in charge of arrangements.

Isreal W. Krider
Isreal W. Krider, 23, a lifelong resident of South Whitley, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was taken following a single car accident west of South Whitley on SR 14 on June 19. He was born April 23, 1975 in Fort Wayne, a son of Larry W. and Cristi L. (Baker) Krider. He was a 1993 graduate of Whitko High School.
After completing his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and following his discharge, he joined the Warsaw Unit of the National Guard. While serving in the Army, Spc. Krider received many awards, including the Army Service Ribbon, National Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal-Army and while serving in Korea received the Overseas Service Ribbon, M16 Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Hand Grenade Sharpshooter Badge, the Army Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service as an M60 Machine Gunner.
Since November 17, 1997, Mr. Krider has been employed by the 80/20 Company in Columbia City.
Surviving relatives include his father and stepmother, Larry and Donna Krider of South Whitley; his mother and stepfather, Cristi and J.R. Sexton of Sneedville, TN; two sisters, Mrs. Ryan (Raychel) Irelan of North Manchester; Mariah Krider of South Whitley; two step brothers, Eric Estep and Justin Hobbs, both of South Whitley; a step sister, Heather Hobbs of North Manchester; grandparents, Phil and Ruth Krider of South Whitley, Jeane Ballard of Ocala, FL; JoAnn Baker of Columbia city; and a great grandmother, Flora Terry of Columbia City.
Funeral service was held Saturday, June 27, 1998 in the South Whitley United Methodist Church with Chaplain Cage of the National Guard officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery with the Warsaw Unit of the National Guard presenting military honors.
Smith and Sons Miller Chapel of South Whitley was in charge of arrangements.

Esther B. Alexander
Esther Bernice Alexander, 80, of 1887N 400W, Wabash, IN died Thursday, June 25, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital. She was born June 7, 1918 in Wabash County, IN to Stewart and Murial (Custer) Keith. She married William Emery Alexander in Indianapolis, IN on July 2, 1943, and he died April 22, 1973.
Esther was a lifetime Wabash County resident, and a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash. She retired from MarkHon Industries in Wabash and had also worked at the Wabash Plain Dealer.
She is survived by two grandsons - Scott Beck of Marion, IN and Eric Beck of Muncie, IN; and a brother Thomas E. Keith of Wabash. A daughter and three sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel with the Rev. John Leinbaugh Preferred memorials are to the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ. Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
