Trilba Z. Frantz
Trilba Z. Frantz, 88, of 429 W. Center St., Watrsaw, IN, died August 27, 1997 at Mason Healthcare Center, Warsaw. She was born Jan. 19, 1909 in Kosciusko County to John and Elnora (Gunter) Fruitt. She married Elmer Frantz July 4, 1926 and he preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and nurse's aide, and had been employed at Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home. She was a member of the West Eel River Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include a son, Robert E. Frantz of Okeechobee, FL; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Davis of Tipp City, OH; a sister, Mary Hull of Florida; five grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, August 29, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, which was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Lester Young officiated, and burial was in Old German Baptist Cemetery, North Manchester.

Dorothy J. Wallace
Dorothy J. Wallace, 84, of Wolf Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997 at Kingston Health Care Center, Ligonier, where she had been a resident since April 1997.
She was born July 3, 1913 in Washburn, IL, a daughter of Peter H. and Emma (Adami) Pierce. Her formative years were spent in the Washburn and Lacon, IL areas where she completed her education.
On Sept. 5, 1931 she was united in marriage to Merrill E. Wallace in Peoria, IL. They made their first home on a farm in Peoria and in 1941, moved to North Manchester where they operated a farm for 10 years. After the sale of the farm, they moved to Wolf Lake. Mr. Wallace died March 29, 1975.
She was a member of Wolf Lake Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Stanley Wallace of Cromwell; two daughters, Patricia Myers of Wolf Lake and Mrs. Wilbur (Sherrill) Day of Sidney; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Klein.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 at Smith and Sons Funeral Home of Columbia City with Rev. Dan Carlson, pastor of Wolf Lake Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or American Heart Fund.

Charlotte Sprong
Charlotte Sprong, 95, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997 at Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born Jan. 25, 1902 in Wabash County to Noah and Iva (Vandegrift) Dillon. She married Roy Zimpelmann in 1925;p he died in May 1938. She then married Lawrence Sprong in 1950; he died March 11, 1972.
She was employed with Peabody Retirement Community from 1978-1986. She also gave piano lessons and did home care in the Wabash County area. On Oct. 8, 1996 she was honored by Peabody Retirement Community for 5000 Volunteer hours. She was a graduate of Urbana High School. She was a member of the Silver Creek Church of Christ in Urbana. She moved to Peabody Retirement Community in 1986, coming from LaFontaine, IN.
Survivors include a sister, Gladys Badskey of Goshen, IN; 10 step grandchildren and 15 step great-grandchildren. A son, and stepdaughters Lorraine (Zimpelmann) Shonk and Eva Lois (Zimpelmann) Whitehead preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at Peabody Chapel, Peabody Retirement Community, with Rev. Robert Schmeiser officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Peabody Home Foundation.

Sarah L. Sullivan
Sarah L. Sullivan, 63, of 1008 Beckley St., North Manchester, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 at her residence. She was born April 9, 1934 at Minneapolis, MN to George R. and Dee A. (Allison) Peterson, both deceased. She married John C. "Jack" Sullivan July 19, 1958 and he survives.
Other survivors include a son, John A. Sullivan of North Manchester; a brother, Tom Peterson of Wabash; five grandchildren. One sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sullivan graduated from Wabash High School in 1952; she received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Ball State University. She began teaching in Albion, MI; she taught at W.C. Mills School in Wabash and retired after 35 years with Manchester Community Schools. She was a member of Tri Kappa, Eagles Lodge Auxiliary, American Legion Post #286 Auxiliary, all of North Manchester. She was Past President and member of Fifth District American Legion Auxiliary; also a member of Indiana State Teachers Association.
Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery of Huntington. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Cancer Society, 9 Maple Court, North Manchester.

Clara E. French Smelser
Clara Evaline French Smelser, 79, of 11678N 200W, North Manchester, died Sept. 19, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was born Mar. 20,1918 in Howard County, IN to John and Jesse (Snow) Atkisson, both deceased.
She was first married to Rev. C. Roy French in Kokomo, IN on Aug. 18, 1934, and he died Sept. 10, 1973. She was then married Lloyd Smelser on June 22, 1983 and he died May 20, 1993. She was a member of the South Pleasant United Methodist Church in Wabash County and was very active on many church committees and ministries. She was a homemaker and had lived in the North Manchester area for more than 50 years.
Survivors include three sons - Charles R. French of North Manchester, Kent A. French of Silver Lake, Bennie R. French of Claypool; two daughters - Nancy E. Bell of Wabash and Penny J. French of North Manchester; step daughter Ann Fratus of North Manchester; and brother John Atkisson of Oakford, IN; 23 grandchildren 52 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Two grandchildren, five sisters, and two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 22, at the Akron Church of God with Jeff Harlow and Rev. James Malbone officiating. Burial was in South Pleasant Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel.

Courtney E. Evans
Courtney Elizabeth Evans, three months, of 23 N. Surf Dr., North Manchester, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born at Warsaw, IN June 12, 1997 to Billy Evans of North Manchester and Valorie Mullins of North Manchester.
Other survivors include parental grandparents Neil and Linda Evans of Silver Lake, and maternal grandparents Chester and Brenda Mullins of Laketon. Parental great grandparent is Mrs. Lauretta Evans of North Manchester; maternal great grandparents are Dina Mullins of Prestonsburg, KY and Will and Mary Henson of North Manchester.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997 at Pentecostal Light House Church of Warsaw, IN with which she was affiliated. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery. The Rev. Glen Hughes officiated the services.

Malcolm Hackworth
Malcolm Hackworth, 80, of 8104S 400E, Claypool, IN, died Sept. 18, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born Aug. 21, 1917 at Bonanza, KY to James Hackworth and Mary Ann Workman both deceased.
A retired farmer, he married Beatrice Merritt Aug. 31, 1940, and she survives, along with a son James Hackworth of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Judy) Gunter of Warsaw; a brother, Earl Hackworth of Warsaw, and a sister, Lousina Hackworth of Youngstown, OH; four grandchildren, one step grandchild, and two great grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral was held Monday, Sept. 22, 1997 at DeLaughter McKee Mortuary with the Rev. Russell Spangle officiating; burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Kosciusko County United Way.

Zella C. Easley
Zella Clara Easley, 86, of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester and formerly of Pacific, MO, died Sept. 16, 1997 at Peabody Community, having been in failing health for the past 2 1/2 years. She was born in Chaffee, MO Jan. 6, 1911 to Jesse Witt who preceded her in death. She was a Peabody resident for two years, having come from Pacific, MO where she resided for 25 years.
She was first married to George Collier, and her second marriage was to Willard Easley, both preceding her in death.
She was a bookkeeper for the So Good Potato Chip Company of St. Louis, MO. for 32 years until she retired in 1973. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and was active in the Pacific, MO RSVP.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frederick L. (Brenda) McKinney Manuwal of Rochester, IN; four grandchildren - Suzette Rhoda of Pacific, MO, Sherry Kelly of Savannah, GA, Jamie Cook of Indianapolis, and Steven McKinney of Plymouth, IN; four great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. Nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her mother and husbands, two brothers preceded her in death.
Private services were held Saturday at Foster and Good Funeral Home of Rochester, IN with Pastor Robert Schmeiser officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery of St. Louis.

Eula Mae Francis
Eula Mae Francis, 76, of Urbana, IN died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997 at Wabash Healthcare Center, Wabash. She was born April 30, 1921 at Bradshaw, W.V. to John H. Thomas and Bonnie G. Rupe, both deceased.
She retired from GenCorp of Wabash, IN; she was married to James E. Francis Sept. 28, 1940, and he preceded her in death June 22, 1979.
Survivors include sons Edward Francis of Sidney, IN, Roger Francis of Kokomo, and Kenneth Francis of Marysville, TN; daughters Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Gullett of Roann, Mrs. Thomas (Reta) Jones of Marysville, TN; brothers Jack Thomas of Bluefield, W.V. and Bill Thomas of Pierceton, IN; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren. Two sons and three brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 26, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, in charge of arrangements. Rev. Tim Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, N. Manchester.
