Frona Smith
Frona Smith, 77, of 740 Evans Street, Wabash, IN died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997 at her residence. She was born June 20, 1920 to Floyd and Vinet (Tackett) Howard. A homemaker, she married James Ernest Smith January 3, 1934 in Johnson County, Kentucky. He died May 13, 1985.
Survivors include five daughters - Tina Kiefaber of Wabash, IN, Learlene Brauneller of Greentown, IN, Peggy Dunfee of Safety Harbor, FL, Darlene Caylor of Fremont, CA, and L.J. Smith of Cupertino, CA; two sons - Carlos Smith and Al Smith, both of Wabash; 15 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren; five sisters - Letris Price, Jane Tackett, Norma Cantrell, and Dollie Keeton, all of Chillicothe, OH, and Alice Montgomery of Cleveland, OH; two brothers - Roy Howard and Cecil Howard, both of Chillicothe, OH. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Sunday, December 7, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, Wabash, with the Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.

Robert M. Neeley
Robert M. Neeley, 60, of 4071S 800W, Peru, IN died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born Nov. 8, 1937 at Marion, IN to Charles and Julia (Drake) Neeley. He married Sue Smithson Sept. 1, 1956 in Alexandria, IN.
He was a member of the Church of Christ at Wabash, and the National Rifle Association. He was employed at RCA in Marion for 29 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Peru; daughters Mrs. Gary (Bobbi Sue) Neeley-Gaylourd of Peru and Mrs. Jeffrey (Rita) Lawrence of Columbia Falls, MT; a brother, Francis Neeley of Marion, IN; sister Mrs. Gene (Erma) Swank of Warsaw, IN; sister-in-law Phyllis Neeley of Marion, IN; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at the Church of Christ of Wabash, with Evangelist L. C. Schuchardt officiating. Burial was in Center Grove Cemetery of Wabash. Preferred memorials are to the Church of Christ, Wabash.

Dr. Harold A. Pfeifer
Dr. Harold A. Pfeifer, 81, of 885 Crosspoint Ct., Wabash, IN died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997 at Skilled Care Center of Wabash. He was born March 7, 1916 at West Lebanon, IN to William G. and Carrie (Ade) Pfeifer. He married Alene M. Hodge in Reading, MI on May 4, 1941. She died May 9, 1996.
Dr. Pfeifer was a retired optometrist, as of 1996 after 55 years of practice in Wabash. He was a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church. He received his preoptometric degree at Purdue University and his Doctor of Optometry from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1940.He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was in charge of examination of vision at the 13th Army General Hospital in Pomona, CA.
He came to Wabash after graduation. He was a member of the Wabash Elks, charter member of the Wabash Country Club, life member of Wabash American Legion, life member of Hanna Masonic Lodge in Wabash, life member Ft. Wayne Mizpah Shrine, life member of Wabash Shrine Club, life member of Wabash Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of the Indiana Optometric Association, the Wabash Valley Optometric Association and was past treasurer of Omega Delta Optometrical National Fraternity. He worked with the Wabash Little League for 16 years and started the first minor league program.
Survivors include a daughter, Michela Ruehl of Crestview Hills, Ky.; a son, H. Richard Pfeifer of Coloma, MI; sisters Elsie Brelsford of West Lafayette, IN and Pauline Caldwell of Burbank, CA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel, Wabash. Entombment took place in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.

Lucille Brunn
Lucille Brunn, 84, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, Indiana, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 at the Peabody Community. She was formerly of 700 Centennial Street, Wabash, IN. She was born May 5, 1913 at Andrews, IN to Charles and Lola (Harnish) Vickrey.
A homemaker, she was married to Glen Brunn April 30, 1930, and he died June 24, 1991. She was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash.
Survivors include two sons - Byron Brunn of North Manchester, and John Brunn of Cape Coral, FL; two daughters - Mrs. Glenda Cox of Wabash, and Mrs. Arlyn (Vickie) Woodcox of Waterloo; a brother, Verlin J. Vickrey of Wabash; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A son, a daughter, and two sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary, 231 Falls Ave., Wabash. Funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 12, 1997 1:00 p.m. at the Eddingfield DeLaughter Mortuary, with the Rev. Robert Schmeiser officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County, Indiana.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Fund

Homer A. Graffis
Homer Arthur Graffis, 87, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died this morning, Dec. 10, 1997, at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born August 13, 1910 in Fulton County, IN to Clarence and Lela (Metzger) Graffis. He married Lucile Deaton February 4, 1934, and she survives at Timbercrest.
Mr. Graffis was a retired farmer, and had also worked at Peabody Seating Company, North Manchester. He was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren. He was a 1928 graduate of Talma High School, and was a member of the Wabash County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Darrel Dean Graffis of Scotts, MI and Dallas Gene Graffis of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister, Mrs. Lorene Foor of Rochester, IN; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester, with the Revs. Mark Flora-Swick and Helen Beery officiating. Burial will be at Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Kosciusko County.
The family will receive friends following the services. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, and preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Crestwood Unit.

Robert M. Neeley
Robert M. Neeley, 60, of 4071S 800W, Peru, IN died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born Nov. 8, 1937 at Marion, IN to Charles and Julia (Drake) Neeley. He married Sue Smithson Sept. 1, 1956 in Alexandria, IN.

Allan R. Smith
Allan R. Smith, 61, of 1646 Sinclair St., Fort Wayne, IN, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was a native of Kentland, IN, and married Carolyn Metzger, the daughter of North Manchester residents, Eldred and Louise (Penrod) Metzger.
Mr. Smith was a charter member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church; he was a member of United Commercial Travelers, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from International Harvester in 1982 after 31 years employment.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; a daughter Dawn Seigel of Fort Wayne; sons Mark Smith and Brian Smith, both of Fort Wayne; three sisters - Delores Storer and Ruth Young, both of Fort Wayne and Linda Deam of Churubusco; and an aunt, Dorothy Biddle of Lebanon, IN; two grandsons and a granddaughter. A sister, Barbara England, preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997) at C. M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, 1327 Wells St., Fort Wayne 46808. Burial was in Covington Memorial Gardens.
Preferred memorials are to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne.

William A. James
William A. James, 56, of 50E. Geary St., Ijamsville, North Manchester, IN, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Oct. 25, 1941 at Wabash, IN to Alvin E. and Vera (Allison) James, both deceased. He married Lois Clark Sept. 17, 1963.
He had been employed as a truck driver for Diamond Trucking of Peru, IN for 33 years. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church of North Manchester, and a member of the Sportsman & Farmers Conservation Club of Silver Lake, IN.
In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by a son Fredrick A. James of Sidney; daughters Mrs. Terry (Deborah) Barrett of Liberty Mills, Diana Wood of Sidney, Lori Conley and Mrs. Robert (Lisa) Haupert, both of North Manchester; brothers Jack Watson of Liberty Mills and Steve James of North Manchester; a sister, Maryann Spangle of Roann; 16 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. One son, a brother, and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral was held Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, IN with Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Heart Association or Wabash County Cancer Fund. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine L. Fleck
Catherine Lorene Fleck, 86, of 257 E. Main St., Wabash, IN died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997 at Millers Merry Manor East, Wabash. She was born Aug. 20, 1911 in Tipton County, Indiana, to Anthony and Catherine (Dooley) Murphy. She married William L. Fleck Sr. Oct. 10, 1929, and he died Sept. 1, 1988.
She moved to Wabash when she was in the eighth grade. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic church, Rosary Sodality, Women of the Moose Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Wabash Senior Club, Wabash Woman's Clubhouse, Jefferson Club, AARP. She was a member and first President of Wabash Council Area 5 Aged and Aging, served as president and vice president of Wabash County Labor Council, worked as labor leader for several years, worked with AFL-CIO, worked for office of Equal Opportunity program.
Mayor Mike Davis appointed her to Mayor's Advisory Council as resource person for the elderly, was an active member of the Democrat Party. She was retired from Minneapolis Honeywell and Markhon after 22 years. She was recipient of the 1990 Older Hoosier of the Year for Area 5 Council on Aged and Aging. She was Area 5 Queen in 1979. She was a member of the Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force (IJJTF) in 1977 and a member of the Indiana Federation of Older Hoosiers.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Catherine) Wagmer of Wabash; sons William L. Fleck Jr. of Silver Lake and John A. Fleck of Gilbert, AZ; a sister, Alice Lundy of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandchild.
Funeral service was held today, Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Father Tim Wrozek officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, located at Tipton, IN.
Arrangements were by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, Wabash, IN.

David W. Roser
Davie Warren Roser, 53, of 5431E 250S, Lagro, IN. died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born June 14, 1944 in Wabash County, IN toVerne Roser of Lagro, and the late Margaret S. (Graves) Roser. He married Carolyn Crandall July 11, 1965 in Somerset, IN.
Mr. Roser was a 1962 graduate of Somerset High School. He was a member of the Treaty Church of Christ, was a farmer and drove a truck for Hurryin' Hoosier Trucking Company of Kokomo for several years.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn of Lagro; his father, Verne of Wabash; a daughter, Deanne Roser Everroad of Indianapolis; and a brother, Jay A. Roser of Rock Island, IL.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. chapel of Wabash, with Rev. Ron Zorn officiating. Burial was in Mississinewa Cemetery, located at Somerset, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash Christian Church. Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel of Wabash was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara J. Saltmarsh
Barbara J. Saltmarsh, 63, of Wabash Community Care Center, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997. She was born August 25, 1934 in Wabash County to John and Geneva (Brane) Harrell, both deceased.
She was a nurse's aide at Wabash County Hospital for 10 years. She was a member of Washington Street Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Eakright of LaFontaine, IN; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Cathy) Burkholder of Wabash; two brothers - John Brane and David Brane, both of Wabash; three sisters - Mrs. Bernie (Janet) Howe of Yuma, AZ, Grace Hubbard and Florence Castator, both of Wabash; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. One son preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary, Wabash, with Rev. David Fulton officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery.

Lorraine Brubaker
Lorraine Brubaker, 61, born June 24, 1936, in Glendale, California, joined the Lord on December 7, 1997. Now reunited with older brother never met on earth, Charles Latino, Jr.; mother, Verona; and father, Charles.
She is survived by husband, Jerry Brubaker of La Puente, California (Jerry was born and raised in North Manchester, IN); daughters Brenda Brubaker of Azusa, CA, and Denise Brubaker-Turek of Arcadia, CA, and grandchild, Gerald Turek; sister, Irene Zakar of Bishop, CA, and brother, Frank Latino, of Landers, CA.
Interment was at Rose Hills, 3888 S. Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA. Preferred memorials are to National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Evanston, IL 60202 (708-332-1051).
Custer Christiansen Mortuaries of West Covina, CA were in charge of arrangements.
