Velma R. Smith
Services for Velma R. Smith, 89, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, were held Monday morning, May 13, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel with Chaplain Joan Deeter and Pastor Christen Miller officiating. Grace Voorheis presided at the organ, and Mary Elizabeth Young served as chorister.
Burial was at Oaklawn Cemetery of North Manchester., Pallbearers were E. Timothy Smith, Daniel Smith, Jennifer Smith, Mahlon Leichty, Jim Garber, and Conrad Snavely. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Max W. Frye
Services for Max W. Frey, 65, of rural North Manchester, were held Tuesday morning, May 14, 2002 at Congregational Christian Church with Rev. J. P. Freeman and Rick Stone officiating. Peggy Boggs served as organist, and Emily Frye was vocalist.
Military guard and gun salute was presented by the Wabash VFW Post #286. The flag was presented by the U.S. Navy. Max Reed was bugler. and gun salute was p he Andrea DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret P. Smith
Services were held for Margaret P. Smith, 81, formerly of North Manchester, IN, on Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel, North Manchester. Rev. Hubert Newcomer officiated and Karen Eberly presided at the piano.
Burial was at Ulrey Cemetery, rural Silver Lake, IN. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn A. Lisk
Services for Kathryn A. Lisk, 90, of Rolling Meadows Healthcare, LaFontaine, IN were held Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2002 at Upland United Methodist Church, Upland, IN with Rev. Ken Puent and Rev. Harry Bronkar officiating.
Remembrances were given by Frances Ewbank, Bob Jackson and he grandchildren. Elaine Luthy presided at the organ and Marian Kendall at the piano. Vocalists were Natalie Muterspaw and Betty Freese. The Chancel Choir provided special music.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Pansy D. Michael
Services for Pansy D. Michael, 80, formerly of Sidney, IN, were held Wednesday morning, May 15, 2002 at Springcreek Cemetery, Sidney, IN with Rev. Doris Smith officiating.
Pallbearers were Chad Zellers, Jim Zellers, David Hudson, Dan Michael, Tom McKee, and Phil Cripe. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Eckhart Smithers
Lois Eckhart Smithers, 97, Peabody Retirement Community and formerly of 1510 Wayne Street, North Manchester, died at 9:30 a.m. March 23, 2002 at Lake Jesup Retirement Home, Sanford, FL.
Memorial services were held Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester, with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Memorials are to the church. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth E. Snyder
Ruth E. Snyder, 75, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Timbercrest. She was born Oct. 8, 1926 at Huntington County, IN to Mark G. and L. Mae (Hoover) Paul, both deceased. A homemaker, she married Darrell D. Snyder on May 21, 1950.
She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren; was active in Church Women United in Fort Wayne, IN; active as counselor at Camp Mack, Milford, IN for several years. A 1945 graduate of Lancaster Township High School, she graduated from Manchester College in 1949 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. She was a charter member of Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren for 46 years, and was Past President of Northern Indiana District for Church of the Brethren Women.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell; a son, Jay D. (Peggy) Snyder of Champlin, MN; daughters Mrs. David (Sharon L.) Miller of Goshen, IN, Mrs. David (Jane E.) Cox of Kokomo, IN, and Mrs. Chuck (Carolyn M.) Snyder-Sain of Albuquerque, NM; a step brother, Alan E. Brown of Huntington; step sisters Mrs. Ed (Sandra F.) Kline and Mrs. John (Linda J.) Kreiger, both of Huntington; and 10 grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Susan Boyer officiating. Private graveside service was held at Covington Memorial Gardens of Fort Wayne, IN.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Retirement Community.

Jeffrey P. Gidley
Jeffrey P. Gidley, 44, of 672 Columbus St., Wabash, IN, died Friday, May 31, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. He was born Mar. 9, 1958 at Wabash to the late Wayne A. Gidley and Betty (Pitts) Gidley.
He was a 1976 graduate of Wabash High School; he was a member of the Wabash American Legion Post 15 and the Wabash Eagles Lodge. He worked as a small engine repairman at Gidley Appliances in Wabash, and also for Crulls, and for five years at Wabash Portable Equipment as a small engine repairman.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Gidley of Wabash; a daughter, Mandy Gidley, Wabash; sons Jonathan and Joshua Gidley, both of Wabash; brothers William E. "Duke" Gidley of San Antonio, TX, Larry D. Gidley of Peru, and Gary H. Gidley of Wabash; and sisters Nancy J. Crowe of Ft. Knox, KY, Brenda D. Norman of Brighton, MI and Beth Girtz of Monticello, IN.
Services were held Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at the Friends Church, SR 13 South, Wabash, with Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery.
Preferred memorial is the American Diabetes Association and the Wabash County Cancer Society. Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements, and the memorial guest book for Jeff may be signed on line at grandstaff-hentgen.com.

Lorenzo G.D. "Lon" Burns
Lorenzo George David "Lon" Burns, 75, of 222 E. Sinclair St., Wabash, IN, died Friday, May 31, 2002 at his residence. He was born Dec. 13, 1926 at Rochester, IN to Ivan Roy and Edna Rebecca (Steininger) Burns.
He was a 1944 graduate of Rochester High School. He married Ella Mae Russell in Wabash on Nov. 27, 1947. He retired from Diehl Machines in Wabash and also worked at General Electric and Honeywell's in Wabash as the tool and die co-ordinator. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, a gunsmith and a well-known machinist. He loved to travel and enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae of Wabash; sons Lonny Dwayne and Terry L. (Beverly) Burns, both of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Steven ( Linda) Alexander of Sharpsville, IN; sisters Reba Clark of Somerset, IN and Shirley Spencer of Kenosha, WI; a step brother Lou Sprague of Warsaw; grandsons Rick (Lisa) Burns of Wabash and Brandon Alexander of Indianapolis; granddaughters Stephanie Burns of Fairfield, OH, Kimberly Burns of Huntington, IN, Mrs. Ron (Melinda) Keller of Fort Wayne, Ashley Alexander, Sharpsville, IN and Mrs. Dave (Jeni) Burlette of Naples, FL; and five great grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash, with Pastor Kevin Stirratt officiating. Burial was in Gardens of Memory Cemetery of Marion, IN.

Madeline L. Woodward
Madeline Louise Woodward, 74, a resident of Millers Merry Manor West, Wabash, died at Millers Wednesday, May 29, 2002. She was born Sept. 18, 1927 at Wabash County to Walter L. and Gladys (Bowers) Bitzel. She is 1/8th Indian.
She married Everett Woodward March 4, 1956; he died in 1972. She worked for Millers Merry Manor East for 8 1/2 years, and for United Technologies in North Manchester for two years.
She is survived by a sister, Melba Gatchel of Wabash, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Claude Bitzel, preceded her in death.
There are no funeral services planned. Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Herman L. Sears Jr.
Herman L. Sears, Jr., 69, a resident of 120 N. Delaware Blvd., Somerset, IN for 36 years, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Marion General Hospital. He was born July 22, 1932 at Terre Haute, IN to Herman L. Sr. and Hester L. (Shepherd) Sears. He married Patricia S. Aug March 17, 1951 and she survives. at Somerset.
He was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church of Somerset; the Somerset Masonic Lodge #383; Scottish Rite, Ft. Wayne; UAW #977, of Marion; Life member of National Rifle Association, and a member of Etna Acres Golf Club.
Other survivors include two sons - Herschel of Warsaw and John of Somerset; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Jeanne) Tennyson of Evansville, IN; six step brothers, all of Terre Haute - Joe, Eugene, Jack, Bob, Richard and Kenny Sears; and five grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sons - James and Dale Sears, a grandson Anthony Sears, and a brother.
Funeral service was held Friday, May 31, 2002 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church of Somerset with Rev. K.M. Lord and Rev. John Pattison officiating. Masonic rites by the Somerset Lodge #383 were held Thursday at the McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel. Preferred memorial is to the National Kidney Foundation of Cystic Fibrosis. Burial was in Gardens of Memory of Huntington County.

Neal A. Oldfather
Neal A. Oldfather, 48, or 1932 Glenridge Dr., Indianapolis, IN, died Monday, May 27, 2002 at Community Hospital East, Indianapolis, IN. He was born August 2, 1953 at Rochester, IN to the late Wilfred W. Oldfather Jr., and Ruth (Yentes) Oldfather.
Mr. Oldfather was a 1971 graduate of Manchester High School and Lincoln Tech in Indianapolis in 1973. He attended Ijamsville United Methodist Church of Ijamsville, IN. He attended vocational school for auto mechanics, and worked for United Parcel Service while attending Lincoln Tech. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a serviceman for Accent Vending of Indianapolis for 20 years. He enjoyed his children, hunting, sporting events, camping and the woods on the family farm.
He is survived by his mother Ruth Oldfather of North Manchester; a son, Dale Oldfather of Indianapolis; daughters Jessica Oldfather of Glenellyn, IL and Megan Oldfather of Indianapolis; brothers Charles H. Oldfather of Bakersfield, CA, Robert E. (Kathy) Oldfather of Macy, IN, James H. (Jan) Oldfather of Victoria, TX, and Randolph D. Oldfather of North Manchester.
Funeral service was held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Rev. Andy Trowbridge officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Megan and Dale Oldfather Fund, care of Beacon Credit Union.

Lois I. "Icy" Goff
Lois I. "Icy" Goff, 69, of 3984S 725W Peru, IN died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at her residence. She was born Feb. 17, 1933 at Majenica, IN to Wilson G. and Blanche M. (Feidner) Hendry. She married Maurice "Zeke" Goff May 21, 1955 at Bachelor Creek Church of Christ of rural Wabash.
She was a 1952 graduate of Chippewa High School, and a member of the Church of Christ at Wabash. She was a farm wife.
Survivors include her husband Maurice "Zeke" Goff of Peru; a son, John Robert Goff, and Mark W. Goff of Lansing, MI; a daughter, Kay Arlene Hines of Logansport, IN; five sisters - Dorothy Trumbower of Ossian, IN, Donna Babb of Florida, Marge Crick of Richland Center, WI, Carol Yocum and Jean Daughtery, both of Wabash; a brother, Lloyd Hendry of Wabash; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at the Church of Christ, Wabash, from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service will be held there Thursday, June 6, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with Evangelists George Faull and Guy Provance officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The memorial guest gook may be signed for Lois at www.grandstaff-hentgen.com. Preferred memorial is the Church of Christ, 1904 N. Wabash St., at Wabash.
