Martha M. Reiken
Martha Marie Reiken, 87, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born Nov. 21, 1914 at Miami County, IN to Amos and Verna M. (Swihart) Sutter. She married Ralph R. Reiken on April 1, 1944 in North Manchester.
She was a member of the First Brethren Church in North Manchester, and the 39ers Club of North Manchester. She was a 1933 Gilead High School graduate, and received her Master of Cosmetology Degree from Fort Wayne Beauty College in 1935. She owned Martha Marie's Beauty Shop in North Manchester since 1934.
In addition to her husband, Ralph, she is survived by two foster-daughters - Mrs. Larry (Donna) Neal of Grays Lake, IL and Mrs. Donald (Rosalee) Coble of Port Orford, OR; one foster grandchild and three foster great grandsons. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Sutter; a sister, Sylvia Guston; and a foster grandchild.
Funeral service was held Saturday, July 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel with Pastor Kurt Stout officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery of Servia, IN.

Norman N. Stanley
Norman N. Stanley, 62, of 267N 300W, Wabash, IN died July 15, 2002 at his residence. He was born Oct. 1, 1939 at Grant County, IN to Omar Stanley and Doris (Bowen) Shellenbarger. He married Claudine Smith in Wabash County on October 2, 1960.
He was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ, Wabash, and a long time member of the Noble Township Fire Department. He was a retired farmer and a 1958 graduate of Akron High School.
Survivors include his wife, Claudine; his mother Doris Shellenbarger; a son, Darreld Stanley; a daughter, Cindy Howard; grandsons Jason Stanley and Nathan Howard, all of Wabash; and a brother Don (Judy) Stanley of Peru, IN. Preceding him in death were a brother and a sister, and a grandson, Devin Howard.
Funeral service was held Saturday, July 20, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with Pastor Jon Leinbaugh officiating. Burial was in the Falls Cemetery of Wabash.

Maxine R. Peebles
Maxine R. Peebles, 83, of rural Wabash, IN died July 18, 2002 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born Aug. 16, 1918 at Wabash County, IN to Ralph and Gertrude (Custer) Ridgeway. She married John B. Peebles in Lagro, IN on Feb. 24, 1940; he died Oct. 8, 1992.
Maxine was a 1936 graduate of Linlawn High School. She was a homemaker, a farmer and a lifelong Wabash County resident. She was a member of the Wabash Friends Church, the Asbury United Methodist Women, and the Linlawn Missionary Society. She served two y ears as president of the Wabash County AARP, and was a former member of the Wabash County Home Economics Chorus.
She is survived by three sons - Ronnie (Joyce) Peebles, and Steve (Jane) Peebles, both of Wabash, and Dave Fulkerson of Warsaw; a brother, Marvin (Mary) Ridgeway of Wabash; and granddaughters Mrs. Brian (Teri) Smith and Mrs. Mark (Alissa) Deeter, both of Wabash, Mrs. Mark (Gay Lynn) Hobbs of LaFontaine, and Jodi Fulkerson of Michigan City, IN; grandsons, Dr. Dan (Amy) Fulkerson of Japan, and Derek Peebles of Kokomo, IN; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, July 22, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, Wabash, with Rev. David Abell officiating. Burial was in Mississinewa Cemetery, located at Somerset, IN.

Daniel C. Stanton Sr.
Daniel C. Stanton Sr., 65, of 180 N. Bass Rd., Silver Lake, IN, died Saturday, July 20, 2002 at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1937 at South Bend, IN to the late Forrest W. Stanton and Minion A. Young of Rochester. He married Joyce L. Clingaman June 24, 1956 and she survives.
A U.S. Army veteran, he drove truck for Fairmount Homes for 14 years. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Warsaw, IN, and also a member of Laketon American Legion.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Herbert "Eugene" Stanton and John B. Stanton, both of Warsaw, Kenneth R. Stanton of Silver Lake, and Daniel C. Stanton Jr. of Westville; daughters Sandra L. Enyart, Mrs. John (Rebecca) Hetzner and Sherie D. Hovendon, all of Silver Lake, IN; also Mrs. Pat (Mary J.) Myers of North Manchester, and Deborah J. Mefford of Mishawaka; a brother, Richard Stanton of Rochester; 23 grandchildren and three step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A brother, two sisters and two grandsons preceded him in death.
Funeral service is set for Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester, with Bishop Art Haas officiating. Burial will be in VA Cemetery of Marion, IN.

Ruby M. Shelmadine
Ruby M. Shelmadine, 90, a resident of Miller's Merry Manor, Columbia City, IN, and former resident at 1404 Westchester Dr., North Manchester, died Sunday evening, July 21, 2002. She was born May 14, 1912 at Cleveland Township, Whitley County, IN to John and Mellie (Griswold) Gray. She married Arthur Shelmadine on January 6, 1932, and he survives.
A former homemaker and retired farmer, she was a member of the South Whitley Church of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Orpha Oglesbee of Fort Wayne, IN.
Friends may call Thursday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mitch Ripley officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.

Carol Anne Stefanatos
Services for Carol Anne Stefanatos, 49, of 145 Ferry St., Wabash, were Wednesday morning, July 17, 2002 at McDonald Funeral Home Eddingfield Chapel. Pastor John Ritchie officiated and Evelyn Davey presided at the organ.
Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash. Pallbearers were Mark D. Stefanatos, Timothy R. Stefanatos, Andy Kirk, Wayne Kirk, James Nelson, Norman Kirk, Kevin Gidley, Terry Brewer and Mark Purdy. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Purdy, Daniel Purdy and Mark L. Stefanatos.

Paul S. Bowman
Services for Paul S. Bowman, 85, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, were held Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2002, at Timbercrest Chapel. Chaplain Joan Deeter and Rev. David Rogers officiated and Mary Lutz presided at the organ. Vocal music was presented by Martha Yohe.
Remembrances were given by A. Blair Helman, Jim Garber, Leland Beery, Paul Hoffman, Howard Uhrig, and Wilbur McFadden.
Honorary pallbearers were Angela Dillon, Amanda Bowman, Michael Dillon, Laura Shah, Casey Bowman, and Ravi Shah.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.

Jack L. Howard
Services for Jack L. Howard, 42, North Manchester, IN were held Wednesday morning, July 17, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel, with Rev. Kelly Beutler officiating.
Pallbearers were Earl Howard, Jesse Howard Sr., Jeff Howard, Mike Mollett, James Howard, John Howard, David Dill, and Jesse Howard Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Howard Jr. and Adam Schnepp.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.

D. Ruth Miller
Duenna Ruth Miller, 86, a resident at 317 Hickory Lane, North Manchester, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born July 24, 1916 at Wabash, IN to Sylvan and Ruth (Tilman) Wilson. She married Walter Cecil Miller in Wabash on Nov. 19, 1941. She was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Miller taught elementary school in Wabash, Miami and Cass Counties for 42 years. She has lived in North Manchester since 1993, in Rochester from 1960-1993, in Peru from 1941-1960 and had spent the winter months in Bradenton, FL. She earned a B.S. degree in Education from Manchester College and a Masters Degree from Indiana State University.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Cecil Miller, Timbercrest Retirement Community; a niece, Joyce DelVecchio of Indianapolis; and a nephew, James Wilson of Texas. A brother, Wendell Wilson preceded her in death.
Funeral service was set for Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, 207 W. Main St., North Manchester, Pastor Fred Bishop officiating.

Bradford M. Adams
Bradford Michael Adams, 37, of 3629 N. River Lawn, Warsaw, IN, died July 8, 2002 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born July 7, 1965 to James and Alison (Bradford) Adams.
He was a precision machinist at Othy in Warsaw 12 years and was also a quality control officer. He was a Manchester High School graduate, and received a B.A. in Art & Business from Manchester College in 1990. He attended elementary school in Barcelona, Spain three years. He was a member of the Warsaw and Wabash Astronomical Societies. He was highly interested and knowledgeable in Astronomy and Science.
He is survived by his father James Adams of North Manchester; his mother, Alison Adams of New Haven, IN; his stepmother, Thelma Rohrer of North Manchester; an aunt, Susan Spencer of Tallahassee, FL; and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Wampler Auditorium, Manchester College. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Science Division at Manchester College for astronomical interests. The guestbook for Brad can be signed on-line at grandstaff-hentgen.com.

Ruby M. Shelmadine
Services for Ruby M. Shelmadine, 90, formerly of North Manchester, were held Thursday morning, July 25, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel. Rev. Mitch Ripley officiated and Rose Sands presided at the organ.
Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN. Pallbearers were Ron King, Jay Freel, John McDougel, Jim Oglesbee, Sonny Hicks, and John Oglesbee.

Daniel C. Stanton
Services for Daniel C. Stanton, 65, of Silver Lake, IN were held Wednesday morning, July 24, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel. Bishops Art Haas and David R. Clark officiated.
A military service was held at Veterans Cemetery of Marion, Indiana with Grant County VFW in charge. Pallbearers were John Stanton, Kenneth Stanton, Parker Enyart, Timothy Hetzner, Adam Hetzner, and Rick Stanton.
