Albert Sims Sr.
Albert Sims Sr., 90, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born at North Manchester to Floyd and Birtie (Hawkins) Sims Feb. 28, 1912. He married Florence Hoover May 30, 1934, and she survives.
He was a member of Servia United Church of Christ. He was owner of Sims Printing in Laketon for 30 years and owned Sims Grocery in Laketon from 1950-1960. He served as custodian at Laketon Elementary School, retiring in 1974. He was also employed at Priser's Auto for several years. He was a former member of the Laketon Lions Club.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Florence, are sons James (Joanne) Sims of Warsaw and Floyd (Carol) Sims of South Milford, IN; a daughter, Mrs. John (Marjorie) Gorrell of Pleasant Lake, IN; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, August 3, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, No. Manchester Chapel. Rev. William Hainstock officiated, and Joyce Shock presided at the organ.
Burial was at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Sims, Steve Sims, Kevin Sims, Jeff Sims, Dan Sims, and Jeff Kruse. Preferred memorials are to Servia United Church of Christ.

E. Lewis Kester
E. Lewis Kester, 83, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne. He was born in Huntington, IN.
He was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, and retired from Lindley Elementary and Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1985. He attended Sonrise at Aboite United Methodist Church, was treasurer of CCC, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed working with ham radios, computers and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, Betty A. Kester of Fort Wayne; three daughters - Cheryl I. Kester-Hoffman of Charlotte, NC, Judith E. McDonnell of Fort Wayne, and Dawn L. Treace of New Haven; a brother Fred Kester of Wabash, and a sister, Edith Stephenson of Winona Lake; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Arthur Kester and two sisters, Mildred Meredith and Ruby Gilmer.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002 at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd., Fort Wayne. Preferred memorials are to Sonrise at Aboit UMC Youth Programs.

Samuel E. Schlemmer
Samuel Edmund Schlemmer, 84, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died July 30, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center. He was born Apr. 12, 1918 at Wabash, IN to Clarence and Anna (Grunewald) Schlemmer. He lived at 18 Elmwood Drive in Wabash for 40 years prior to moving to Peabody.
He married Loann Sanders June 22, 1947 at Claypool, IN. He was a member of the Wabash Christ United Methodist Church and former member of the Wabash American Legion, VFW, Elks and Kiwanis Clubs. He was the treasurer of Wabash County for four years and was a World War II Army Veteran. He owned and operated Sam's Sport Shop in Wabash for more than 25 years. He was an All-State football player at Manchester College and was inducted into the Manchester College Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Loann, of North Manchester; three sons - William (Betsy) Schlemmer, and James Schlemmer, all of Wabash, and Dave Schlemmer of Auburn, IN; a granddaughter, Caroline Schlemmer and grandson Ross Schlemmer, both of Wabash. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Ona May Bonewit
Ona May Bonewit, 89, formerly of 363 Indiana St., Wabash, IN, died July 30, 2002 at Wabash Skilled CareCenter. She was born Sept. 18, 1912 at Grant County, IN to Archie and Eva (Smith) Lightle. She was a 1930 graduate of Upland High School, Upland, IN. She married John William Bonewit, Sr. in Huntington County IN on Dec. 31, 1931; and he died July 31, 1995. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters - Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Mattern of Wabash, Mrs. Tom (Linda) O'Hara of Westchester, OH, Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Donaldson of Peru, and Mrs. Rudy (Sue) Schalow of Auburn, IN; a sister, Elizabeth Sloderbeck and sister-in-law, both of Upland, IN; a brother-in-law, Paul Martz of Hartford City, IN; 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a son, John Bonewit, Jr., a grandson, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with Rev. Ron Zorn officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.

Roy Franklin Dunn
Roy Franklin Dunn, 91, of 4750N 100W, Marion, IN, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at his residence. He was born Sept. 2, 1910 at Allerton, IL to Omer M. and Edna Mae (Hinton) Dunn. He formerly lived at 1025 Indian Hills Dr. in Wabash. He married Pauline Ruth Niccum at the Dora Christian Church in Wabash County on January 24, 1968; she died November 1, 1993.
He was owner and operator of Dunn's Bulldozing in Wabash, retiring in 1991, and also owned and operated Dunn's Garage in Lagro where he did auto and farm equipment repair.
He was a member of the Dora Christian Church, a former Boy Scout leader, and a member of the Land Improvement Contractors of America.
Survivors include three daughters - Nondus Walls of Coldwater, MI, Shirley Mattern of Marion, IN, and Kathleen Cobbs of Fremont, IN; a son, Cecil Roy Dunn of Wabash; a brother Clarence Dunn of Richmond, VA; and three sisters - Thelma Jarvis and Margurite Stevens, both of Orlando, FL and Helen Jennings of Carthego, MO; 23 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dunn.
Funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with Pastor Duane Seitz officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash. Dortha M. Grindle
Dortha M. "Dottie" Grindle, 73, a resident of Millers Merry Manor West, Wabash, IN, died Friday, August 2, 2002 at the Manor. She was born May 4, 1929 at Wabash, IN to Allen B. and Pearl (McGriff) Degering. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons - Russ (Debi) Grindle of Wabash and Gary (Dottie) Grindle of Bradford, NH; a daughter, Cathy Carpenter of Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Russ (Betty) Gaither of Franklin, NC; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Falls Cemetery, 725 Falls Ave., Wabash. Rev. Mark A. Day will officiate.
Arrangements are by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of Wabash.

Elmer Aschliman
Elmer Aschliman, 90, of Wilmore, KY, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002 at the Christian Health Care Center after an extended illness. He was a native of Davis County, Indiana, the son of the late John and Barbara Gingrich Aschliman and the widower of Idella B. Aschliman who died in 1998.
He was a self-employed businessman, having owned a Salvage Company in Indiana. Mr. Aschliman was a member of the Church of he Brethren.
He was dearly loved by his family members which include a daughter, Marilyn Neff and husband Robert; grandchildren Michelle Spann and husband Glen, Deborah Johnson and husband Tim, Rob Neff and wife Julie; great grandchildren Travis, Benjamin and Michael Spann, Chris, Brett and Brian Johnson, Ryan and Katie Neff and Cory Olson-Lee; two sisters, Mrs. Adeline Stuckey of Indiana, and Mrs. Mildred Palmer of Arizona; a brother Raymond Aschliman and wife Luella of Indiana. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Private services were held Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 at the Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, with burial in the Wilmore Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass. Leicester H. Brown
Services for Leicester H. Brown, 89, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, were held Thursday morning, August 22, 2002 at North Manchester United Methodist Church. Pastor Fred Bishop, assisted by Chaplain Joan Deeter and Rev. Phil Hershberger, officiated.
Remembrances were given by Linda Chapman, Evelyn Bowman, Carsten Strom, Gene Murphy and Edwin Cable.
Rita Slater presided at the organ and Anne Harms was soloist.
Burial was in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana, and pallbearers were Phil McCarter, Charles Cavert, Merril Renbarger, Earl Brown, Marvin Brown, and Carl Pence. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel.

Eugene P. Graham
Services were held for Eugene P. Graham, 79, of North Manchester, Thursday morning, August 22, 2002, at Washington Park East Cemetery Chapel, Indianapolis, IN. Rev. Nancy Ferriani officiated.
Burial was at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, with military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy Reserves.
Pall bearers were Jeff Rowland, Don Gwinnup, Neal Albert, Jay Burgess, Jack Russell, and Tom Rogusta. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Floyd J. Morris
Services for Rev. Floyd J. Morris, 77, of Laketon, IN were held Wednesday morning, August 21, 2002 at Laketon Wesleyan Church. Dr. Harold Bardsley and Rev. Andy Trowbridge officiated.
Organist was Rosemary Bolinger and Hilda Clark was vocalist. Steve Pruitt played a harmonica solo.
Burial was at Summit Lawn Cemetery of Westfield, IN/. Pallbearers were Marion Rhine, Jim Ricker, Steve Pruitt, Doug Stanley, Dan Pruitt, and John Pruitt. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel.

Shayla Marie Garber
Services for infant Shayla Marie Garber of Columbia city, IN were held Thursday morning, August 22, 2002 at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN. Rev. Opal Nees officiated.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery with honorary pallbearers Stephanie Smith, Rachel Kelman, Emily Shorter, and Zachary Shorter, serving.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.

Jeffrey R. Woods
Services for Jeffrey R. Woods, 57, formerly of North Manchester, were held Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2002 at Manchester Church of the Brethren. Pastor Jeff Matas and Pastor Christen Miller officiated.
Mary Lutz presided at the organ and Diana Bucher at the piano. Vocalist was Laura Gable.
Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Serving as pallbearers were Daniel Woods, Ron Karg, John Erlandson, Roger Price, Rocklin Price, and Aaron Price.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel.
