Robert A. Cates, age 75, of Richmond, died Saturday (April 2, 2005) at Reid Hospital. He was born in on May 27, 1929 in Buffalo, New York to Clyde and Mary Carroll Cates and had lived here most of his life. He had been employed by Cates Variety Store and by Birck’s Hardware. He was a member of Saint Mary Church.
Survivors include – Brother – David (Mary) Cates of Indianapolis
Sister-in-law – Orpha Knoob of Richmond
Nieces & Nephews
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday (April 6, 2005) in Saint Mary Church. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday (April 6, 2005) from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Swafford
Date: 2005-04-02
Donald Swafford, age 82, of Richmond, died Saturday (April 2, 2005) at Reid Hospital. He was born on January 13, 1923 in Kitchel, Indiana to Lewis and Ethel Jones Swafford and had lived here all of his life. He was a graduate of Kitchel High School and he was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Belden and a member of the Belden 25 Year Club. He was a member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include – Wife – Janice Swafford to whom he was married 58 years
Daughter – Pam (husband B.J.) Bryant of Richmond
Grandson – Jason (wife Samantha) Bryant of Richmond
Granddaughter – Kimberly (husband Eric) Schroeder of Richmond
Great Great Granddaughter – Shelby Bryant
Private services will be held on Tuesday (April 5, 2005) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. There will be no public calling. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Jayden E. Darnell Ruble
Date: 2005-04-07
Jayden E. Darnell Ruble, infant son of Kandis Darnell and Ronald Ruble, died Thursday (April 7, 2005) at Reid Hospital.
Survivors in addition to his parents are:
Maternal Grandparents – Bernard and Lela Cross
Paternal Grandparents – Wilma and Mike Bryant
Graveside services will be held on Saturday (April 9, 2005) at 1:00 pm in Abington Cemetery. Rev. Bud Parrish will officiate. Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mable E. Thorpe
Date: 2005-04-14
Mable E. Thorpe, age 96, of Richmond, died Thursday evening (April 14, 2005) at Rose Gate Village. She was born in Connersville, Indiana on January 12, 1909 to Joseph and Grace Diehlman. She married Robert J. Thorpe of Lynn, Indiana and they lived most of their lives in Richmond where they were both employed by the Richmond Glove Company for many years. In addition to her parents and her husband, three brothers, William, Maynard and Malcolm Diehlman are also deceased.
Survivors include – Nieces – Carolyn Diehlman Houston

A graveside service and burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens on Sunday (April 17, 2005) at 1:30 pm. Rev. Terry Cochran will officiate. Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Raymond Weiss
Date: 2005-04-14
Eugene Raymond Weiss, age 82, of Hagerstown, died Thursday (April 14, 2005) at Saint Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Wayne County on January 25, 1923 to Raymond and Jeanette Merkamp Weiss and had lived in this area all of his life with more than 20 years in the Hagerstown area. He was a farmer and he retired in 1989 as an employee of Bruns Brothers Excavating.
Survivors include – Wife – Mary J. Weiss to whom he was married 57 years
Daughters – Teresa (Bob) Tannyhill of Marion, Ohio
Krista (Dennis) Glander of West Manchester, Ohio
Jane (Dennis) Bennett of Seymore, Tennessee
Carolyn (Donny) Talbott of Hagerstown
Margaret Williamson of Connersville
Sons – Mark (Sandy) Weiss of Fairbanks, Alaska
Michael (Shirley) Weiss of Centerville
Luke (Clovetta) Weiss of Centerville
Matthew (Brenda) Weiss of Greens Fork
Brothers – Edward (Donna) Weiss of Daleville
Charles (Ellen) Weiss of Greens Fork

In addition to his parents, two daughters, Mary Joanna Weiss and Ann Cox and three brothers, Ralph, Herb & Vernon Weiss are also deceased
The family will received friends on Saturday (April 16, 2005) from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary where services will be conduced by Rev. Bob Fannin. Burial will be at a later date in West Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 N. Halsted Street Suite 201, Chicago, Illinois 60622

Christopher M. Clemens, age 24, of Richmond, died Tuesday (April 19, 2005) as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born in Richmond on May 11, 1980 to Michael and Cheryl Greene Clemens and had lived here most of his life. He was employed by Neaton Auto Parts Manufacturing in Eaton, Ohio

Doris J. "Queenie" Juhasz

Doris A. (“Queenie”) Juhasz, age 78, of Richmond, died Tuesday evening (April 19, 2005) at Oakridge Rehab & Specialty Care. She was born on October 21, 1926 in Wayne County to John and Grace Stanton Gausepohl and had lived here all of her life. She was a graduate of Richmond High School, had worked for Fox Electronics and was a retired employee of Atlas Plastics. Doris was an avid golfer and bowler and she was an active supporter of HELP the Animals. She was a member of Saint Andrew Church.
Survivors include – Husband – John Juhasz to whom she would have been married 56 years on April 30th.
Son – Gordon Juhasz of Richmond
Daughter – Julie Finn of Dayton, Ohio
Sister – Barbara Fratis of Richmond

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday (April 22, 2005) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Father Todd Riebe will officiate. Burial will be in Saint Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday (April 21, 2005) from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to HELP the Animals, 2101 West Main Street, Richmond, Indiana 47374.

Louise W. Austin
Date: 2005-05-07
Louise W. Austin, age 97, of Richmond, died Saturday afternoon (May 7, 2005) at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born in Richmond on July 6, 1907 to Harry and Iva Nieman and had moved back to Richmond in 2004 after living in Florida for 25 years. She was a graduate of Morton High School and 1928 graduate of the Reid Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Her husband, Clinton Austin, whom she married on April 8, 1933, died on October 21, 2003.
Survivors include nieces & nephews
Two sisters, Gertrude Close and Mary Alice Wiesehahn, and a brother, Fred Nieman are also deceased.
Private services will be held on Wednesday (May 11, 2005) in Lutherania Cemetery. Pastor Herb Berry will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Reid Hospital Foundation, 1401 Chester Blvd. Richmond, Indiana 47374. Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Patty M. Powers
Date: 2005-05-09
Patty M. Powers, age 66, of Richmond and Hamilton Lake, Indiana, died Monday (May 9, 2005) at her residence in Richmond after an extended illness. She was born on August 4, 1938 in Highpoint, North Carolina to Roy and Dorothy Fowler Mickey. She grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and was a graduate of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. She was a social worker for Richmond Community Schools.
Survivors include – Husband – G. Fred Powers, Jr. whom she married August 27, 1960 in Jacksonville, Fla.
Daughters – Sandra Elizabeth “Beth” Macke and husband Jon of Newnan, Georgia
Kimberly Lynn Kinsey and husband Chris of Lake Worth, Florida
Son – G. Fred “Trey” Powers III and wife Marta of Newnan, Georgia
Mother – Dorothy A. Mickey of Jacksonville, Florida
Sister – Betty Sorensen of North Reddington Beach, Florida
Four Grandchildren – Fredi and Sydni Kinsey and Brad and Jay Macke
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Mickey, and a favorite uncle, Jay Witcher.
Her memory will be a treasure to all who knew her. She was a gift from the Lord and a bright light on this earth.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday (May 13, 2005) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Robert F. Wyrick will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday (May 12, 2005) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fred and Patty Powers Foundation for Wayne and Steuben Counties,(for social services in those areas)in care of American Express, 735 East Main St. Richmond, Indiana 47374 or to the American Cancer Society, 1401 Chester Blvd., Richmond, Indiana 47374.
