Raymond Jackson
Raymond Uriah Jackson, 97, died today, Oct. 8, at Moran Manor Nursing Center. He was born Dec. 5, 1901, to Joseph and Ada Holeman Jackson in Carroll County, Ark. He was raised in Bronson. He married Bertha Viola Colgin on Feb. 7, 1923. They lived north of Bronson. They had 11 children. She died in 1969. He then married Nelie Alice Fisher in 1970. She died in 1992. He was an oil driller, oil pumper and farmer. He had lived at Mildred, for 11 years with his daughter, Jessie. He is survived by three sons, Darrell and Paul of Mound City, and LeRoy of Blue Mound; five daughters, Marybell Pruitt of Aurora, Colo., Velvia Pearman of McPherson, Evelyn Larkey of Chanute, Jessie Jefferis of Mildred, and Joan Stewart of Coffeyville; 32 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, Gilbert and Dorwin, a daughter, Verlin Frame, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur, Oliver and Alva Jackson, and four sisters, Alma, Marie, Inez and Anna, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Moran United Methodist Church. The Rev. Fred Darbonnowill will officiate. Burial will be in Bronson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mildred United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 pm. Saturday at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Moran.

'Joe' Hendrix
Former Iola resident Jewell G. "Joe" Hendrix, 89, of Nixa, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 8, following a short illness. He was born Nov. 27, 1909, at Waverly, the son of Author Edwin and Cora Jane Turner Hendrix. He had been employed by Sinclair Pipe Line Company, retiring in 1972 after 45 years of service. In December 1934, he married Mildred Kuntz. They lived in several communities in Missouri, before moving to Iola in 1953. He is survived by a son, Larry Hendrix, and daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brundage Hendrix, Nixa; two grandchildren, Timothy Hendrix and Debra Cummings; four great-grandchildren, Timothy Lee Hendrix, Rusty Cummings, Andrew Hendrix and Shelby Hendrix; and two sisters, Laura Westoff and Viola George of Lawrence. His wife, Mildred, two brothers, Charlie and Edwin, and two sisters, Golda Wood and Noma Solmon, died earlier. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Samuel Stokes
Samuel Stokes, whose obituary was published in Monday's Register, was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters, Virginia Andrus, Mary Stokes and Harlan Stokes of LaHarpe, Robert Stokes, El Dorado, and William Stokes of Iola.

Randy Sherwood
Randy L. Sherwood of Wichita, brother of Dennis Sherwood of Iola, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Wichita. He was 44. He is also survived by his wife, Donna, of Wichita, his mother, Donna Sherwood, Coffeyville; two sons, Steven and Marcus, Wichita; a daughter, Jessica Sherwood, Wichita; another brother, Jim, of Elgin, Ill.; and four sisters, Terry Ann Savala of Dearing, Vickie Bayles of Lowell, Ark., Paula Rene Hensley of Coffeyville and Debra Torres of Rogers, Ark. He had been employed by Secure America ADT branch as a manager. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Funeral Home West in Wichita. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Mary Hearn
Mary Catherine Hearn, 77, of Yates Center, died Monday, Feb. 28, at Allen County Hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1922, at Dekalb County, Mo., the daughter of Gerry R. and Freda Law Ferguson. She had been an accounting supervisor and secretary for Eby Construction Co. of Wichita for 26 years and had been secretary for the First United Methodist Church in Yates Center for the past 12 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church at Chanute. On Feb. 12, 1944, she married Walter V. Hearn at Corpus Christi, Texas. He survives, as do a son, Thomas A. of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Trisha A. Testorff of Platte City, Mo.; a brother, Robert L. Ferguson of Columbia, Mo.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Chanute. Burial will be in Yates Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Campbell Funeral Home from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Chanute.

Hubert Heffern
Hubert H. Heffern of Yates Center died Tuesday, Feb. 29, at Allen County Hospital at the age of 94. He was born Oct. 22, 1905, on a farm north of Piqua to John and Kate O'Donnell Heffern. He served in the U.S. Navy. On Nov. 19, 1930, he married Rosanna O. Dupras. They lived in Massachusetts and Maine before moving to California in 1936. He worked in the naval shipyards at San Francisco for 26 years. She died in December 1969. On Sept. 5, 1970, he married Kathryn Boone Williams. They lived in Florida for eight years and then in California for six years. In 1984, they moved to New Hampshire. She died in 1993. Shortly after her death he moved to Yates Center. He was a former member of St. Martin's Catholic Church at Piqua and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Yates Center at the time of his death. He is survived by two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A son, Norman, died earlier. Funeral services will held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua. The Rev. Leon Kerschen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Martin's Cemetery at Piqua. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Oddivene Thummel

Marjorie Evenson
Marjorie June Evenson, 64, of Humboldt, died Monday, July 3, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. She was born May 26, 1936, at Watertown, N.Y., the daughter of George and Myrtle Spicer Norris. She lived in Watertown, until the age of 8. She then moved with her family to Neodesha. She was graduated from Neodesha High School in 1954. She was a member of the Humboldt First Baptist Church and belonged to the Virginia Circle, American Baptist Women's Ministries and White Cross. She had held office positions in all the groups. She was also secretary of the Gleaners Sunday school class. She was a homemaker and enjoyed listening to her radio while spending time with her cat. She also enjoyed sewing, crafts and being with friends. On June 6, 1955, she married Robert G. Evenson at Neodesha. He is deceased. She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn L. Baxter, and her husband, Terry, of Kansas City, Mo., Sharon L. Shoop, and her husband, Raymond, of Cherryvale, and Charlene L. Evenson of Humboldt; and a son, Carl Robert, and his wife, Linda, of Trinidad, Colo; a sister, Doris Birdsong, of Cherryvale; a brother, Delbert Norris of Neodesha; four step-sisters, Jenny Burns of Abilene, Mary Smith of Florida, Joan Council of Neodesha and Jeanie Jacobs of Florida; and five grandchildren. A daughter, Karen Jacobs, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Humboldt First Baptist Church. The Revs. David Medley and R.A. Pefley will officiate. Interment will be in Fredonia City Cemetery. Evenson will lie in state at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Humboldt on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials to the American Baptist Women's Ministries-White Cross may be left at the mortuary.

Arleta Trainer
Former Iola resident Arleta Trainer, 77, of Palmdale, Calif., died Friday, June 30. She was born Nov. 20, 1923, the daughter of Lonnie and Daisy Smith Erhart in rural Selma. She attended school at Gas and Iola. She was a member of the Palmdale First Christian Church. On June 18, 1941, she married Roy Trainer at Iola. He died in 1985. She is survived by a son, Ronald, of Spokane, Wash.; a daughter, Janet Mason of Palmdale; five brothers, Herschell Erhart of Mesa, Ariz., Lowell Erhart of Westport, Wash., Loyd Erhart of Adalanto, Calif., Wilbur Erhart of Solon, Iowa, and Herbert Erhart of Ellsworth, Wis.; two sisters, Geraldine Brundage of Gas and Mary Stephens of Salina; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home in Palmdale.

Jesse Chavez
Jesse S. Chavez of Iola died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. He was 79. He was born May 30, 1921, in Mexico, the son of Marcial and Irene Chavez. He grew up at Bassett and attended Washington School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Chavez worked for LeHigh Portland Cement Company in Iola until it closed. He later worked for Beechner Construction until his retirement. On Dec. 31, 1947, he married Alberta "Bert" Serrano. They made their home in Iola. She died in 1990. Survivors include a son, Jesse Robert of Tacoma, Wash.; two daughters, Sylvia Comer of Iola and Mary Queckboerner of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Joe "Benny" of Howard and Pete of Wichita; three sisters, Florentina Perez of Iola, Alice Quearry of Branson, Mo., and Simona Doffing of Wellington; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Bertha Weeks
Bertha M. Weeks, 88, of Iola died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita. She was born Sept. 17, 1912, at Neosho Falls, the daughter of Robert Leslie and Wilmot Lucinda Dunton. She grew up at Neosho Falls. She married Fred Weeks on Oct. 22, 1929, at Iola. They made their home in California, where she worked in a defense plant during World War II. They later moved to Oregon and operated a berry farm. They returned to Kansas in 1948. She ran the Towntalk Bread store in Iola before they moved to Chanute. He died in 1979. Her last move was to Windsor Place in Iola. She is survived by a son, James Weeks, and his wife, Joyce, Iola; five daughters, Mrs. James (Patsy) McGowan of Iola, Mrs. Charles (Peggy) Carnahan of Gas, Mrs. Joseph (Laura) Turner of Chanute, Mrs. H.L. (Catherine) Simmons, McCune, and Mrs. Hal (Jean) Byrum of Sheldon, Mo.; a brother, Richard Dunton, Belleville, Mich.; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Dave and Millard Dunton, died earlier. Family and friends will gather at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to Highland Cemetery for graveside services at 11 o'clock

Reasoner services
Funeral services for Darlene M. Reasoner of Bronson, whose death on Tuesday was reported in Wednesday's Register, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Paint Creek Church of the Brethren in rural Redfield. The Rev. Chub Bolling will officiate. Burial will be in Marmaton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Moran. Memorials to Paint Creek Church of the Brethren may be left at the funeral home. Reasoner was born Dec. 4, 1936, at Junction City, the daughter of Darius V. and Leona C. Ricke Woodward. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Paint Creek Church of the Brethren and the Lunch Bunch. She liked spending time with her grandchildren and before her health failed she would constantly have one or more of her grandchildren at her home. Her hobby was bowling. She was in many bowling tournaments and was awarded many trophies. She was married to Scott Rodke on Dec. 21, 1956. They were divorced. On March 13, 1976, she married Bill Reasoner. He survives, as do two daughters, Sharon (Mrs. Mitch) Bolling, of rural Bronson, and Lee Ann (Mrs. Steve) Everson, of Wichita; two sons, David Rodke of Bronson and Joseph Rodke and his wife, Pamela, of Atlanta, Ga.; two step-daughters, Rhonda Reasoner (Mrs. John) Murphy and Irma Reasoner, both of Wichita; two stepsons, Ronnie and his wife, Carol, Reasoner, of Redfield and Charlie Reasoner of Joplin, 13 grandchildren and two great-grandsons. A brother, Bill Woodward, died earlier.

John Lindeman
Former Yates Center resident John W. Lindeman, 66, of Huntsville, Ala., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Huntsville Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Before his retirement he worked for Boeing and for Dunlop Tire Company as an electrical maintenance supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Aggie Hunt Lindeman of Huntsville, also a Yates Center native; four sons, Jerry of Athens, Ala., Max of Huntsville, Rex of Atlanta and Joe of Clarksville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Gallant Funeral Home in Hazel Green, Ala. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville.

Frank Peres
Frank Alfred Peres, 44, of Wellington, a tool maker for BAE Systems, died late Monday morning, Dec. 4, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center St. Francis Campus in Wichita. Peres was a cousin of Hazel Yetzbacher, Opal Stults and Mr. and Mrs. Don Riley of Iola. He was born March 1, 1956, at Blackwell, Okla., the son of Oren and Norma Cheney Peres. On Aug. 20, 1976, he and Towanda Treft were married at Braman, Okla. He liked to play softball, hunt and fish. His favorite sport was bow hunting for deer. He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Travis of Wellington; a daughter, Shanyn Peres of Wellington; his parents of Braman; two brothers, Les Chriestenson and his wife, Susan, of Muskogee, Okla., and Carl Peres of Blackwell; two sisters, Rita Bruner and her husband, Jack, of Wichita and Evelyn Hicks of Braman; and numerous nephews and nieces. A sister, Mary Garland, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Day Funeral Home in Wellington. The Rev. Terry Ricketts will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jay Lime
Word has been received by Ivan Cooper of the death of his brother-in-law, Jay Lime, 74, on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at O'Fallon, Mo. Lime was a former resident of Iola. He was born April 18, 1926. He was married to Emma Jean Cooper at Iola, in April 1948. She survives, as do three sons, Don of Addieville, Ill., Bob of St. Charles, Mo., and Tom of O'Fallon, a daughter, Tami Tibbets of O'Fallen; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Beissel services
Funeral services for Charles E. Beissel, 38, Pleasant Hill, Mo., whose death on Wednesday was reported in Thursday's Register, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Garnett. Pastor Tom Shaffer will officiate. Burial will be in Garnett Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Farris-Feuerborn Funeral Home in Garnett. Beissel was born April 17, 1962, at Tulsa, the son of Gloyd Thurman and Bonnie Shoemaker Beissel. He was group home manager for TRI-KO. He was married to Dana Rogers Dec. 5, 1998, at Ottawa. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jessica and Hannah, of the home; an unborn child expected in July; a brother, Donnie Beissel, Inola, Okla.; and three sisters, Retha Burnett, JoAnne Highberger and Jackie Bowen, all of Garnett. He had lived at Pleasant Hill, Mo., for the past seven months. Before that he had been a lifetime resident of Garnett.

Katzer services
Funeral services for Anna Laura Katzer, 87, Garnett, whose death Thursday was reported in Thursday's Register, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greeley. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Greeley. Visitation will follow a 7 o'clock rosary tonight at the St. John's Catholic Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Holy Angels School or the St. John's School. They may be left at Farris-Feuerborn Funeral Home in Garnett. Mrs. Katzer was born June 22, 1913, in Anderson, the daughter of Henry and Theresa Zormeier Egidy. She was married to Tony Katzer April 25, 1933. He died in 1982. She is survived by eight sons, four daughters, a brother, three sisters and 28 great-grandchildren, none of whom live in the Iola area.

Masquelier services
Graveside services for former Iolan Wilma "Dean" Remington Masquelier, 68, of Springfield, Mo., whose Wednesday death was reported in Friday's Register will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, rural Arma, the Rev. Diann Morris officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Monday at Brenner Mortuary. She was born Nov. 7, 1932, at Pittsburg, the daughter of James Butler and Laura Baxter Remington. She grew up at Pittsburg and attended Pittsburg schools. She married William "Bill" Masquelier in August 1953 at Pittsburg. He preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1973. Mrs. Masquelier moved to Iola where she made her home for more than 20 years. She later moved to Decatur, Ill., where she lived for 12 years. She moved to Pittsburg in 1988, and then moved in 1991 to Springfield, where she lived for the past 10 years. She was a member of the Cherry Court Garden Club at Springfield, and of the auxiliary staff at St. John's Health Center. She was a friend of the library, drove for the Council of the Blind, and was active in many other organizations. Survivors include a son, David Wayne Masquelier of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two brothers, Wayne Remington of Fort Scott, and Bob Remington of Pittsburg; a sister, Helen Dyer of Russellville, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, a daughter and a brother.

Funeral services for former Kincaid resident Edward Arthur Manwiller of Joplin, Mo., whose death on Wednesday was reported in Thursday's Register, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett. Thomas Hill and Chad Pendegraft will officiate. Interment will be in Moran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to St. John's Hospice of Joplin may be left in care of the funeral home. He was born May 11, 1927 at Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Martin Harvey and Cora Culp Manwiller. He had been an iron worker. On May 17, 1952, he married Willa F. Heckenliable at Huntsville, Ark. She died in 1995. Survivors include two sons, David of Fayetteville, Ga., and Mike of Joplin; two daughters, Laura Grzybowski of Humboldt and Rebecca Rendell of Carbondale; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Wilma Masquelier
Word has been received from David Masquelier that his mother, Wilma Dean Masquelier, a former resident of Iola, died Thursday, May 31, in Springfield, Mo. The funeral will be in Pittsburg at a date to be announced.

Sprague services
Funeral services for Nancy Rebecca Stokes Sprague of Kincaid, whose death on Sunday was reported in Monday's Register, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kincaid Baptist Church. The Rev. Gale Mack will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lone Elm Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Kunkel Mortuary in Moran. Memorials may be made to the Nancy Sprague Scholarship Fund. She was born Aug. 21, 1936, in Onyx Yell County, Ark., to Elijah Kendrich and Iva Mae Crawford Stokes. She was graduated from high school in Danville, Ark. She moved to Iola where she attended Allen County Community College. After further college classes at Springfield, Mo., she returned to Iola where she worked for Pet Milk. On Dec. 20, 1959, she married Kenneth Sprague. They made their home in Kincaid. She was a farm wife, assisting her husband in running the family farm and raising their children. She attended the Kincaid First Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ for more than 20 years and participated in a variety of ways with the vacation Bible schools. She was an avid photographer, chronicling the life of her family and farm. She liked to read, play and listen to music and traveling. She devoted much of her time to researching family genealogy. She recently began quilting. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; two sons, Max of Kincaid and Joel of Lebo; two daughters, Monique Litherland of Topeka and Myla Ma of Hong Kong; and three granddaughters, Dasha Watt, Brittney Sprague and Erika Litherland.

Graveside services for Kenneth Earl "Buck" Gilliland of Colony, whose death on Tuesday was reported in Wednesday's Register, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Colony Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Colony First Responders and the Fire Department may be left in care of the funeral home. He was born Feb. 1, 1908, at Iola, the son of Joe and Edith Byfield Gilliland. He worked various jobs before becoming a mechanic and starting his own garage in 1938. He retired in 1988. On Aug. 8, 1934, he married Beatrice McAloon at Iola. She survives, as do four daughters, Katherine Weldin of Colony, Dorothy Smoot and her husband, Cecil, of Mesa, Ariz., Pat Ludolph and her husband, Richard, of Topeka and Shirley Catron and her husband, George, Iola; four brothers, Lawrence, Roy, Bob and Lee Gilliland; a sister, Helen Anderson; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son-in-law, Floyd Weldin, two granddaughters, Alisha Weldin and Amy Weldin, a grandson, Eric Weldin, a granddaughter-in-law, Janice Weldin, and three sisters, Arvilla Helms, Wilma McGhee and Lillie Dickerson, died earlier.

'Bob' Hill Jr.
Robert Wesley "Bob" Hill Jr. 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 27 [2001]. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Hill, of Claremore, Okla.; two sons, Stephen and his wife, Wanda, of St. Joseph, Mo., and Staton and his wife, Delinda, of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Robin and her husband, Dr. Frank Porter, of Iola; and seven grandchildren. He was born Feb. 26, 1925, in Centerville, Mo., to Robert Wesley and Nellie Edith Breen Hill Sr. He was a quality control inspector for C.E. Lummus in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Navy. He liked to build things, which included his first house, models and a boat that he built in his living room. He liked crossword puzzles, sports, bird watching and traveling to places such as Canada, Hawaii and the Caribbean. He was a member of a pit crew for a race team. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Carterville, Mo., Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Claremore Funeral Home.

Doris Holderman
Doris Evelyn Holderman of Yates Center, died Thursday, Nov. 29 [2001], at Twin Oaks Health Care Center in Yates Center, at the age of 79. She was born July 11, 1922, in Rose, to George and Lola Dixon Church. She had lived all her life in Yates Center. She worked in many restaurants in Yates Center, as a cook and was well-known for her pies. She retired from the former 107 Restaurant in Yates Center. She was graduated from Yates Center High School in 1941. She was married to Grant Lee "Doc" Holderman. He died June 30, 1995. Survivors include a son, Randy; four daughters, Pattie, Kay, Judy and Sue; two sisters, Thelma Crumrine and Roberta Burge; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A brother, Stanley, and a sister, Wilda Douglas, died earlier. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center. Burial will be in Yates Center Cemetery. Jeane Moyer
Former Yates Center, resident Jeane M. Moyer, 78, of Pittsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 29 [2001], at Mt. Carmel Hospital in Pittsburg. She was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Parsons, to Albert and Flora Garten. She was a graduate of Neosho Falls High School and Allen County Junior college. She had lived in Yates Center, Girard and Pittsburg. On March 17, 1946, she married Eugene Moyer in Yates Center. He died Jan. 11, 2000. She is survived by a son, Raymond, of Wantagh, N.Y., a daughter, Sharon L. O'Kalicsanyi, of Charlottesville, Va.; and four grandchildren. Friends and relatives will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center to go to the Yates Center Cemetery for graveside services.

Long services
Funeral services for Pat D. Long of Iola, whose death on Thursday was reported in Thursday's Register, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Iola. The Rev. Leon Kerschen will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. He was born March 27, 1948, in Iola to Larry C. and Mary J. "Sue" Ottenstein Long. He grew up in Iola. He was graduated from Iola High School in 1966. He was graduated from Iola Junior College. He had operated Embassy Shoe Rebuilders on the north side of the Iola square for 31 years. The Long family has had the business in Iola, since 1946. His father retired in 1971. He liked to fish and spend time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Iola Elks Lodge. On Oct. 17, 1980, he married Deborah R. Stephens in Miami, Okla. She survives, as do two sons, Patrick and Brent of Iola; a daughter Stephanie Gregg, of Iola; two stepsons, Robert W. Brown of Humboldt and Kevin Brown of Jasper, Mo.; his mother, Sue Long, of Iola; a sister, Linda Martin, of Lawrence; a half-brother, Jim Long, of rural Afton, Okla.; and nine grandchildren. His father, Larry C. Long, died in 1995.

Nancy O'Keefe
Former Iola resident Nancy Bagnall O'Keefe, 61, of Chicago, Ill., died Monday, Feb. 4, in Chicago. She was born in Iola, to Mr. and Mrs. James W. Bagnall Sr. She is a veteran of the U.S. Army. While in the service, she was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by her husband, Ronald; four daughters; a brother, David Bagnall, of Iola; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A brother, Jimmy, died earlier. Funeral services will be held in Chicago.

Park services
Funeral services for Michael V. Park, 16, rural Moran, whose death Thursday evening was reported in Friday's Register, will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Johnson Kunkel Mortuary in Moran. Lloyd Houk will officiate. Burial will be in the Bronson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the mortuary in Moran from 7 to 8 o'clock. Michael will lie in state Sunday from 10 a.m. until after the visitation. Memorials may be made to the Southeast Kansas Mental Health Society or to the Marmaton Valley School L.D.A. Program under the direction of Mr. Catron. Michael was born April 19, 1986 in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Spencer and Annette (Woodward) Park Sr. He attended Marmaton Valley High School in Moran, where he was involved in school band and had a love for art. Earlier, he was involved in football and basketball at school. He was engaged in farming with his family east of Moran on the family farm. He liked to hunt deer and fish, but music was his passion. Survivors include his mother and father, Annette and "Big" John David, of the home; his father, Spencer Park Sr., Kansas City, Kan.; five brothers, Patrick David, Colorado Springs, Brandon David, Limon, Colo., Spencer Park Jr., Kansas City, Kan., Christopher Park, Kansas City, Kan., and Lloyd Park, of the home; a sister, Kristina Park, Kansas City, Kan., and his grandmother Needa David, Humboldt.

Miller services
Funeral services for Virgil Keith Miller of Blue Mound, whose death on Thursday following a two-vehicle accident at an intersection in rural Linn County, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wall Street Church in Blue Mound. Interment will be in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Coffel-Schneider Chapel in Mound City. He was born Aug. 28, 1953, in Fort Scott, the son of Keith and Venita Bruner Miller. He was a graduate of Crest High School in Colony. He attended Allen County Community College and was a graduate of Kansas State University. On Feb. 21, 1976, he married Nancy Bain. He was a self-employed rancher and operated an agricultural spray business. He was a member of the PRCA and attended the Wall Street Church. He is survived by his wife of Blue Mound; his parents of Kincaid; a son, Jeffrey Keith of Blue Mound; two daughters, Kristen Lee and Danielle Kay Miller of Blue Mound; a brother, Jim and his wife, Jayne, of Garnett; two sisters, Nancy Ann McCullough and her husband, Jim, of Chilhowee, Mo., and Marita Meech and her husband, Jim, of Fort Scott. An infant sister, Venita Marie, died earlier.

'Chuck' Menzie Sr.
Charles P. "Chuck" Menzie Sr., of rural LaHarpe, died Thursday, Aug. 8, at the Fredonia Regional Hospital at the age of 77. He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Wichita to Grover C. and Mabelle Glover Menzie. He was a 1943 graduate of Iola High School. He attended Iola Junior college and Pittsburg State College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by M&M; Packing in Iola after returning from the service. On Oct. 28, 1950, he married Shirley McGrew in Garnett. They made their home in Wichita where he worked for Cessna. After returning to Iola he worked in the laboratory at LeHigh Portland Cement Company until it closed. At the time of his retirement, he was working at the county landfill. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and American Legion in Iola and the LaHarpe Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Pat and his wife, Debbie, of rural LaHarpe; three daughters, Debbie Curry and her husband, Larry, of Iola, Cheryl Smith of Andover and Shelly Christian and her husband, Michael, of Mulvane; 11 grandchildren; and two granddaughters-in-law. An infant grandson, Flint Menzie, and two sisters, Myrna Martin and Iverd Cornell, died earlier. The body has been cremated. Graveside inurnment services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery. Pastor David Gruggs will officiate. Memorials are suggested to KVC Family Services and may be sent in care of Piqua State Bank. KVC Family Srvices sponsors foster homes in 11 counties and includes the "Adopt An Angel" Christmas tree project at Piqua State Bank. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Sherri Rash
Sherri Lynn Rash, 36, of Yates Center died Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Yates Center. She was born Aug. 2, 1966, in Independence, the daughter of Larry Rash and Christina Wheeler Sherwood. She lived most of her life in the Yates Center and Cherryvale areas. She was a graduate of Yates Center High School. She is survived by her father, Larry Rash and stepmother, Janet Rash, of Moline; her mother, Christina Sherwood and her stepfather, Fred, of Piqua; three sisters, Terri Rash of Independence, Christy Ballinger of Cherryvale and Rae Lynn Rash of Moline; three stepbrothers, Wes, David and Lyle Sherwood of Le Roy; and a stepsister, Brenda Joyce of Piqua. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Morehead Cemetery south of Thayer. Campbell Funeral Home of Yates Center is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dennison
Former Iola resident Michael Thomas Dennison, 51, of Corsicana, Texas, died Tuesday, May 21, in Arlington, Texas, after a short illness with lung cancer. He was born Oct. 8, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo. He grew up in Iola. He was raised by his grandparents, Frank and Marguerite Dennison. He was a 1968 graduate of Iola High School. In 1969, he joined the Peace Corps. He was working as a truck driver at the time of his death. He was planning on attending a school for pharmacology. He was a longtime member of the Sons of the American Legion of Corsicana. He is survived by a brother, Leslie Jurgeson of Kansas City; three sisters, Denise Miller of Orlando, Fla., Deborah Chriestenson of Neosho Falls and Vicki Curry of Iola; his aunts, Maxine Rei, Maxine Sherrill and Sharon Boan of Iola; an uncle, Frank T. Dennison Jr. of Long Beach, Calif.; and close friends, Bob and Marie Wilkins of Corsicana. His mother, Beverly Dietrich, died earlier. Services were May 24 in Corsicana. Chaplain Larry Bohannon officiated. The body was cremated. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Corley Funeral Home of Corsicana.
