Bertha J. Anderson
Bertha J. Anderson, 101, died April 11, 1996, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. She was born March 5, 1895, at Ethridge, Tennessee, the daughter of James Andrew and Martha Luisa Spivy Clark. A Pratt resident for the past 10 years, she was a homemaker. She was a resident of Ulysses for 10 years and Medicine Lodge for 40 years. She was a member of Iuka United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Methodist Women, all of Medicine Lodge. On January 24, 1917, she married Everitt Anderson at Scott City. He died October 24, 1975.
Survivors include: a son, Dale, Iuka; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 1996, at Larrison Mortuary, with Pastor Ken Keeling presiding. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Edward Mott
Services for Edward B. Mott, 80, of Gilbert were 10 a.m. Saturday at Valley of the Sun Mortuary, 10940 E. Chandler Heights Road, Chandler. Mr. Mott, a rancher, was born in Manter, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, June; daughter Barbara Zacher; sons Lonnie and David; sisters Naomi Heinig, Genevieve Crowell, Daisy Duethett, Della Smith, Winnie Babb and Joan Hanson; and six grandchildren.

Everett L. Shelite
Everett L. Shelite, 66, died June 2, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born June 8, 1933, at Kiowa, the son of Henry and Myrtle Shurts Shelite. He was a 1951 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Phillips University, receiving a bachelor's degree in geology. A lifetime Barber County resident, he was a mill superintendent and quality supervisor for National Gypsum, Medicine Lodge, for 30 years before retiring. He had also taught school at Hennessey, Oklahoma. He belonged to the Community Bible Fellowship, Medicine Lodge, and served on the board of directors for South Central Telephone Association. On November 27, 1952, he married Marjorie Moore at Hunter, Oklahoma. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Rockne, Kiowa, and Monte, Medicine Lodge; two daughters, Martha McDaniel and Robin Inslee, both of Sharon; three brothers, Richard, Enid, Oklahoma, Chester, Waynoka, Oklahoma, and Lawrence, Alva, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Shedd, Las Vegas, and Velma Haas, Medicine Lodge; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred; and a brother, Robert.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Community Bible Fellowship, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Dwain Richert presiding. Burial was in Attica Cemetery, Attica.

Myrle Arlene 'Sally' Throckmorton
Myrle Arlene 'Sally' Throckmorton, 82, died September 28, 1994, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home, Kiowa. She was born August 31, 1912, at Capron, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter S. and Mary Cora McArthur Wilcox. She lived for 57 years on the family farm near Capron, moving to Burlington in 1985, and to Kiowa in 1994. She was a homemaker and a clerk for McClain's Shoe Store in Alva, Oklahoma, for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Capron. On November 28, 1929, she married George B. Throckmorton at Alva, Oklahoma. He survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Emil Rogell Throckmorton, Oklahoma City, and George Eldon Throckmorton, Enid, Oklahoma; a daughter, Bonita Somerholder, Burlington, Oklahoma; two brothers, Harold Wilcox and Grover Wilcox, both of Oklahoma City; four sisters, Dorothy Fobes, Dallas, Texas, Wilda Caywood and Irene Tate, both of Enid, Oklahoma, and Stella Penland, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral was at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Capron, with Carolyn Murrow and D.L. Haarguess presiding. Burial was at the Capron Cemetery.

Opal E. Sowards
Opal E. Sowards, 89, died November 24, 1999, at Kidron Bethel Health Care, North Newton. She was born October 18, 1910, at Kiowa, the daughter of James G. and Anna H. Edwards Myers. A Newton resident since 1959, moving from Medicine Lodge and a Kidron Bethel Health Care resident since 1994, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Newton Assembly of God. She married Luther A. Sowards at Raton, New Mexico. He died October 30, 1981.
Survivors include: a daughter Linda Newfeld, Newton; a granddaughter, a great-grandson; and several nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Frank, Dewey and Ralph Myers; and four sisters, Bertha Bond, Florence Myers, Ethel Myers and Ruth Sowards.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 29, 1999, at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. John Hubbard presiding. Burial was in Restlawn Gardens of Memory Cemetery, rural Newton.

J. Keith Stauffer
J. Keith Stauffer, 87, died July 17, 1995, at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt. He was born August 4, 1907, at Iola, the son of John Theodore and Catherine Rebecca Remsberg Stauffer. A Larned resident since 1980, moving from Arlington, he was a retired state highway employee. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Larned. On June 11, 1960, he married Neta Smith at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include: four sons, Harold Keigh, Hutchinson, J. Charles, Inman, Glenn Earl, Rawlings, Wyoming, and Ray Dean, Kent, Washington; a daughter, Mary Fern Woods, Pratt; a brother, Leonard, Mulvane; a sister, Ellamae Duklow, Hemet, California; a stepson, James Bohard, Larned; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 21, 1995, at Morrel Funeral Home, Larned, with the Rev. Roger Larsen presiding. Burial was in the Larned Cemetery.

Juanita Burkes
Juanita Burkes was born April 7, 1916 to Nora and Harvey Dodd in McWillie, Oklahoma. She passed away Arpil 7, 1996 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Juanita grew up on a small farm outside McWillie, Oklahoma, one of 15 children. She graduated from High School in Aline, Oklahoma and remained in the McWillie and Carmen area all of her early years. She married Ted DeLano in Lambert, Oklahoma in 1934. To this union, were born two children; a daughter, Jeanne (DeLano) Schiff and a son, Dick DeLano. After Ted's death, she took the children and moved back to the farm at McWillie. She married Harold Burkes of Carmen, Oklahoma in 1939. To this union three children were born, two daughters and a son; Beverly (Burkes) Selby, Lewis K. Burkes and Belinda (Burkes) Youssefich. The family moved to Medicine Lodge in 1951 where Harold worked as a plumber. He preceded her in death in 1958. Medicine Lodge was Juanita's home for the rest of her life. She made many friends over the years, and loved to talk about old times. Juanita took great pride in being able to call Medicine Lodge home. She was equally proud of her Oklahoma heritage. In later years, Juanita was happiest just being at home, feeding and watching the birds in her yard, working in her flower beds, or crocheting and making things for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anyone who visited Juanita knew what was important to her. As you entered her small trailer, you were greeted with family pictures covering the walls. Juanita worked at the Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital for many years. She had been a member of First Christian Church in Medicine Lodge since 1953. She is survived by her children, Jeanne Schiff and her husband Daryl of Sharon; Dick DeLano and his wife Vonda of Oxford; Beverly Selby and her husband Kenneth of Las Vegas, Nevada; Lewis H. Burkes and his wife Catherine of Radium; and Belinda Youssefich and her husband Joseph of Seattle, Washington; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Garold Dodd of Eugene, Oregon and one sister, Ila Koon of Vernon, Texas. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Gerald D. 'Jerry' Hughes
Gerald D. 'Jerry' Hughes, 68, died October 16, 2000, at his home in Sharon. He was born November 20, 1931, at Drummon, Oklahoma, the son of V. Floyd and B. Vivian Spellmon Hughes. He was a resident of Sharon since 1965 coming from Harper. He was a school teacher. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He belonged to KNEA, the American Legion, Sharon, and Sharon Community Church, Sharon. On July 22, 1978, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, he married Raydene L. Weaver. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Lori L. Wilcox, Anthony, and Abby Lyn Hughes, Miami, Oklahoma; two step-sons, Michael G. LaCore, Cunningham, and Gary Lee LaCore, Mulvane; a step-daughter, Diana L. Miller, SHaron; a sister, Dorothy F. Smith, Cherokee, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Kasey Drosselmeyer, Justin Wilcox, Clay Wilcox, Danielle LaCore, and Montana Miller.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 19, 2000, at Sharon Community Church, Sharon, with Rev. Darrel Boyd presiding. Burial was in Sharon Cemetery, Sharon, with Military Rites by U.S. Army Fort Riley. A memorial in Mr. Hughes name has been established to benefit children.

Vada T. Hansen
Vada T. Hansen, 70, died October 17, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Fancis Campus, Wichita. She was born July 16, 1930, at Medicine Lodge, the daughter of George F. and Audrice M. Lonker Crosby. She was a resident of Medicine Lodge since August of 1999 coming from Yuma, Arizona. She was a high school secretary. She was active in Genealogy, had been secretary for ForestService and had been Postal Clerk in Glide, Oregon. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, and VFW Auxiliary, Glide, Oregon. On November 24, 1948, she married Roy Allen Hansen at Roseburg, Oregon. He survives in Medicine Lodge. Other survivors include: three daughters, Fay A. Rust, Grants Pass, Oregon, Marcie Brodersen, Tacoma, Washington, and Shawnee T. Hansen, Anacortes, Washington; one sister, Eloise Carter, Sutherlin, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Allen Hansen, July 1973. Graveside service was held Friday, October 20, 2000, at Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. Jim Godbey presiding.

Gladys Marie Hinton
Gladys Marie Hinton, 71, died April 7, 2001, at Kingman Community Hospital. She was born October 12, 1930, at Bourbon, Missouri, the daughter of Forest Dale and Eura Golden Cates Lincoln. A Kingman resident since 1958, she was a certified nurses aide at Kingman Community Hospital. She was a member of the Christian Church, Medicine Lodge. On March 18, 1948, she married Carl Hinton at Mexico, Missouri. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Paul, Kingman; daughter, Connie Dorsey, Arma; brother, Kenneth Lincoln, Sheldon, Missouri; sister, Lucille Willingham, Hollinsburg, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman.

Charles Albert Heflin
Charles Albert Heflin, 79, died August 7, 1997, at his home. He was born July 10, 1918, at Sawyer, the son of Albert T. and Vina Bell Gilham Heflin. A life-time Pratt County resident, he was a retired carpenter, co-owner of Heflin Contract Freight Delivery Service and worked for Pratt Feedlot. He belonged to First Church of God, Pratt. On February 18, 1940, he married Mary Rosella Mallonee at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include: three sons, Roger A. and Raymond L., both of Wichita, and Ronald D., Pratt; seven daughters, Linda S. Haworth and Roberta I. Mayes, both Pratt, Vina M. Woodward, Cunningham, Nancy L. Brown, Wichita, Doris L. Williams, Kansas City, Missouri, Rosemary Reed, Medicine Lodge, and Ruth J. Heflin-Cooper, Stillwater, Oklahoma; two brothers, John L., Cunningham, and Samuel A., Blythe, California; three sisters, Madaline Anderson, Hastings, Nebraska, Louella G. Hayes, Medicine Lodge, and Betty J. Hurt, Pratt; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. Cremation took place.
Memorial graveside servic was held Monday August 11, 1997, in Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, with the Rev. Douglas J. Enick presiding.

B. Emma Adams
B. Emma Adams, 93, died November 7, 1999, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge. She was born May 23, 1906, at Dodge City, the daughter of Elmer J. and Ora G. Heany Sanders. A Medicine Lodge resident since 1927, moving from Wellington, she was a homemaker and during World War II worked at National Gypsum Company. She belonged to First Christian Church, HDU and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Medicine Lodge, and the National Gypsum Auxiliary. In 1922, she married Virgil J. Adams at Quinlan, Oklahoma. He died in September 1976.
Survivors include: two daughters, Betty J. Dary, Wichita, and Verlene Kutz, Valley Center; a brother, Glenn Sanders, Woodward, Oklahoma; a sister, N. Frances Menefee, Wichita; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leon; two daughters, Audrey Bartholomew and Charlene Adams; four brothers, Charles, Sylvester, Cecil and Archie Sanders; and five sisters, Ida Knight, Hazel Adams, Etta Mae Prunzinski, Maxine Jackson and Florence Sanders. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Wilfred Lee Potts
Wilfred Lee Potts, 23, died April 9, 1996, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, as a result of an auto accident near Isabel. He was born May 26, 1972, at San Bernadino, California, the son of Daniel L. and Sharon M. Bortzer Potts. A Medicine Lodge resident for six months, formerly of Isabel and Dodge City, he was a truck driver for Builders Transport, Medicine Lodge. He was a member of the Kansas Army National Guard. On Jun 16, 1994, he married Twyla Kay Evans at Dodge City. She died April 8, 1996.
Survivors include: father, Independence; mother and stepfather, Sharon M. and Fred Douglas, Dodge City; and three sisters, Sarah Parsons, Independence, Elizabeth Meacham and Hannah Potts, both of Dodge City.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 1996, at Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. David Graves presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge. Military honors were presented by the Kansas Army National Guard.

Twyla Kay Potts
Twyla Kay Potts, 22, died April 8, 1996, as a result of an auto accident near Isabel. She was born December 16, 1973, at San Jose, California, the daughter of John K. and Edna Ordway Evans. A Medicine Lodge resident for six months, formerly of Isabel and Dodge City, she was a homemaker. On June 16, 1994, she married Wilfred Lee Potts at Dodge City. He died as a result of the same accident.
Survivors include: parents, Isabel; four brothers, Walter Ordway, Ukiah, California, Jeffery Evans; Pratt, her twin, Gary Evans, Garden Valley, California, and Joey Evans, Isabel; and two sisters, Toni Lynch, Fontana, California, and Jill Evans, Isabel.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 1996, at Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. David Graves presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Hazel Alice Parr
Hazel Alice Parr, 56, died Sunday, June 16, in Medicine Lodge. She was born March 6, 1918, in Medicine Lodge. She was a member of the First Christian Church, OES, and Educational Secretary Association. She was the clerk of the Board of Education, USD #254. She is survived by three brothers, Don Parr, Coolidge, Arizona, Riley Dillman Parr, Wichita, John Parr, Medicine Lodge; and a sister, Doris Parr, Medicine Lodge.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. David Bradshaw officiating. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery.

James Loren Bell
James Loren Bell, 84, died July 28, 2000, at Hilltop Manor, Cunningham. He was born August 22, 1915, at Afton, Oklahoma, the son of John Franklin and Maude Belle Angell Bell. A resident of Nashville for 36 years, moving from the Union Chapel community, he was a farmer and stockman. He belonged to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, was a 4-H leader, an Eagle Scout board member and served on the Union Chapel Church board. On April 25, 1942, he married Fern Hazel Funk at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Lawrence Bell, Medicine Lodge and David Bell, Isabel; a daughter, Rita M. Kimball, Medicine Lodge; a sister, Mary Hommertzheim, Medicine Lodge; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Faye Bell; six brothers, Dick, Charles, Elmer, Harley, Oliver and an infant, Franklin; four sisters, Ella Howell, Florence Moomau, Margie Reed and Pearl DeMore; and a grandson, Michael Duane Kimball.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, 2000, at First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Edith M. Amerine
Edith M. Amerine, 88, died August 7, 1997, at Kiowa District Hospital. She was born March 7, 1909, in Linn County, the daughter of Edgar J. and Josephine Starks Mock. A Kiowa resident since 1969, moving from Corwin, she was a homemaker. She belonged to United Methodist Church, Kiowa, and the Order of Eastern Star. On December 24, 1927, she married Richard F. Amerine at Arlington. He died July 3, 1987.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lois Mitchell, Temecula, California, and Joyce Lynam, Dallas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 12, 1997, at United Methodist Church, Kiowa, with the Rev. Bill Dyar presiding. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Keith Kaufman
Keith Kaufman, 58, died August 6, 1997, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital. He was born February 20, 1939, at Kingman, the son of Gilbert G. and Cora Albright Kaufman. A Medicine Lodge resident since 1966, coming from South Haven, he was a retired school teacher and coach, having taught for 33 years. After retiring, he was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance Co. as a crop adjuster. He attended First Christina Church, Medicine Lodge, and belonged to the Kansas National Education Association. On June 19, 1969, he married Jean Sisson at Medicine Lodge. She survives. Other survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, Alan K. and Susan, Bedford, Texas; a daughter, Julie K. Kaufman, Littleton, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Kristen Kaufman and Kelli Kaufman, both of Bedford.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 9, 1997, at the First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. Rom Walters presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Dorothy F. Dick
Dorothy F. Dick, 81, died January 25, 1999, at Riverside Health Center, Wichita. She was born March 11, 1917, at Sharon, the daughter of Peter J. and Mary E. Ast Eck. A lifelong Sharon resident, she was a homemaker. She belonged to St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon. On November 19, 1946, she married Delbert W. Dick at Sharon. He died October 4, 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, Ken, Clearwater, and Randy, Sharon; two daughters, Carol Seaman, Lahoma, Oklahoma, and Joan Carter, San Antonio, Texas; three brothers, Ed, Steve and Vernon, all of Sharon; two sisters, Mildred Laudick, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lucille Laudick, Isabella, Oklahoma; nine grandchilden; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 29, 1999, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, with Father Anthony Suellentrop presiding. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Sharon.

Nellie Watson McGee
Nellie Watson McGee, 94, died October 18, 1994, at Fountainview Villa Nursing Home, Ashland. She was born January 24, 1900, at Willow Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Jacob and Helen Stephens Moore. A resident of the Clark County area most of her life, she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church at Ashland. On December 4, 1921, she married Otis Pearl Watson at Englewood. He died January 5, 1969. On March 15, 1979, she married Daniel McGee at Arnett, Oklahoma. He survives. Other survivors include: two sons, Otis Watson, Asland, and Dwight Watson, Montezuma; two daughters, Juanita Marton, Wichita, and Wanda Lechman, Coldwater; two stepsons, James McGee, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Gene McGee, Laurel Hill, North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Doris Kimberly, Medicine Lodge; a brother, Flem Moore, Ashland; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, October 22, 1994, at Highland Cemetery, Ashland.

Jack D. Fox
Jack D. Fox passed away July 13, 1995, at his home in Hays, at the age of 51. Jack was born July 23, 1943 in Marion, the son of John and Margaret Quinlan Fox. He worked as an oil field worker. On September 1, 1962 at Fairway, he was united in marriage to Valerie Rosenberg. Their home had been Hays since 1988 when they moved from Medicine Lodge. Jack is survived by his wife Valerie of Hays; sons Jack of Hays and James of Larned; daughter Marcie Kaminska of Medicine Lodge; parents Mr. and Mrs. John Fox of Tampa and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Conant of Herington; one grandchild; and brother John (Larry) Fox of Willis.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 17, 1995, at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion, wiht the Rev. Hugh Floyd officiating. Burial was at Claney Cemetery with Zeiner Funeral Home in charge.

Orville M. Freeman, 83, died July 19, 1995, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born September 5, 1911, in Pratt County, the son of L. G. and Susie Bird Freeman. A longtime resident of Barber County, he was retired from Clarke Oilfield Corporation. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion in Medicine Lodge, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. On Auugust 1, 1942, he married Esther Phillips at Pratt. She survives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Lesta and husband, Robert Esser of Riverton, Wyoming; grandson, Justin Esser, U.S. Navy, Orlando, Florida; granddaughter, Robyn and husband Cody Beers, Cheyenne, Wyoming; great-grandson, Brady Beers; four sisters, Mary Barstow, Hutchinson, Bonnie Chinn, Coats, Virginia Radcliffe, Seattle, Washington, and Betty Lutz, Macksville; 25 nieces and nephews and lots of good friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 22, 1995, at Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Jim (cut off).

Wayne Robert Knowles
Wayne Robert Knowles, son of Robert S. and Julia Knowles. He was born July 19, 1932 in Sun City, Kansas and died July 15, 1995 in San Francisco, California. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include: his mother, Julia Knowles, Pratt; three sons, Robert, Thomas and William all residing in California; three brothers, Glenn, Claremore, Oklahoma, Keith, Paducah, Kentucky, and Dale, Yukon, Oklahoma; two sisters, Lucy Mae McCarthy, Carthage, Missouri, and Janet Boggs, Overbrook, Kansas; and one granddaughter. He was cremated.

Anna Marie Koblitz
Anna Marie Koblitz, 88, died February 13, 1999, at Kiowa Manor, Kiowa. She was born October 11, 1912, at Buffalo, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Leslie and Amanda Brooks Miller. A longtime resident of Barber and Harper Counties, she was a homemaker. She belonged to Kindom Hall, Alva, Oklahoma. On October 11, 1934, she married Alva L. Koblitz at Anthony. He died December 27, 1982.
Survivors include: two sons, Ivan, Hazelton, and Bruce, Anthony; a daughter, Marilyn Alexander, Hazelton; a sister, Agnes Waggoner, Cherryvale; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Graveside service was Tuesday, February 16, 1999, in Bethel Cemetery, Amorita, Oklahoma.
Memorials may be sent to the Kingdom Hall or the Kiowa Manor Activity Fund, both in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Kiowa.

J.D. Vandiver
J.D. Vandiver, son of James A. and Minnie Reid Vandiver, was born on August 13, 1921 at Washington County, Arkansas. He passed away on Monday, July 3, 1995 at the High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, Texas at the age of 73. He was graduated from Winslow High School in Winslow, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II in the European Theatre. He married Geraldine Catlin on December 16, 1947 at Kingman. In 1960, they moved to Canadian, Texas from Cortez, Colorado. He was an oilfield worker for many years and later owned and operated the Mobil Service Station in Canadian. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of the home; his son, Steven Vandiver, and his wife, Donna, of Garrisonville, Virginia; two brothers, Paul Vandiver of Winslow, Arkansas, and George Vandiver of Lincoln, Nebraska; three sisters, Ruth Claxton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Birdie DeVore of Winslow, Arkansas, and Boby Jean Sparkman of Wichita; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jason and Tasha; and other relatives and friends.
Services were held Thursday, July 6, at Spring Grove Cemetery, Anthony, with the Rev. John Schnelle presiding. The American Flag was presented by Doris Kastens and Howard Wimmer of American Legion Post #54.
Memorials may be given to the Hemphill County Library in Canadian, Texas in care of Elliott Mortuary, Anthony.
