Geraldine Hegeman
Geraldine J. Hegeman, 76, Olathe, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Olathe Medical Center. She was born Jan. 19, 1924, in Girard, Kan., and lived in Olathe the past 15 years. She was a classroom teacher, elementary counselor and school psychologist in various school districts for 42 years, retiring in 1986. She also had been a member of the First Christian Church of Olathe since 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Hegeman, in 1984; and a sister, Glenna Draper, in 1966. Survivors include two sons, Stanley K. Hegeman, Olathe, and Douglas A. Hegeman, Abida Springs, La.; a brother, William Miller, Buena Vista, Ark.; a sister, Vivian Young, Olathe; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe. Burial will be at Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Russell Helling
Russell R. Helling, 45, of Olathe died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Deborah A. (Hellwig) Helling, of the home; two sons, Andrew R. and Aaron R. Helling, both of the home; a daughter, Rachel L. Helling, also of the home; his father, Raymond P. Helling, Ellenton, Fla.; and two sisters, Rinda Ontiveros, Wentzville, Mo., and Janet Reichers of St. Charles, Mo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Lenexa Christian Center. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe. Rosamary Helverson
Rosamary T. Helverson, 83, Olathe, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at her home. She was born April 24, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Oscar and Mary Siefert. She had lived in Kansas City, Mo., all her life, until moving to Olathe six years ago. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clarence Helverson, who died in 1995. Survivors include a sister, Virginia Sipes, Olathe; two nephews, Gilbert L. Sipes and Kenneth Sipes Jr., both of Olathe; two nieces, Alicia Jones and Janet Sipes, both of Olathe; two great-nephews; two great-nieces; a great-great-nephew; and a great-great-niece. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary, Olathe. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

Leona Henderson
Leona (Tony) Henderson, 91, Olathe, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Olathe Medical Center. She was born March 24, 1908, in Arcadia, Kan., the daughter of Chauncey J. and Ruth (Crites) Nichols. She had lived in Olathe since 1942, and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She volunteered at Olathe Medical Center and for the Cedar House in Olathe. She was a director of Johnson County Department of Social Welfare for more than 24 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Henderson. Survivors include two nephews, Harry Pittser, Girard, Kan., and Chauncey Cambers, Independence, Mo.; and two nieces, Mary Jo Hudson, Pittsburg, and Betty Ward, Overland Park. The memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Grace United Methodist Church or OMC. Arrangements are by W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe.

Lorena Henderson
Lorena O. Henderson, 84, Olathe, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at the Royal Terrace Care Center in Olathe. She was born Jan. 14, 1916, in Neola, Kan., and had lived in Olathe the past four years, coming from Pratt, where she had lived most of her life. She was a nurse's aide in both the Pratt Regional Medical Center and the Newton Hospital for many years before retiring. She was a member of First Christian Church of Pratt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton R. Henderson, in 1992. Survivors include three sons, John W. Henderson, Pratt, Charles W. Henderson, Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Milton F. Henderson, Wichita; a daughter, Alice F. Overocker, Olathe; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Cremation. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Southwind Hospice, Pratt, KS 67124. Arrangements are by the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe.

Virginia Henderson
Virginia T. Henderson, 78, died Monday at Villa St. Francis, 16600 W. 126th St. Henderson was born June 6, 1922 in Kansas City, Mo. She married Emmett Henderson, who died in 1989. Henderson's daughter, Linda Sue Barrera also preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Patricia Ray, Kansas City, Kan.; Shirley Batchman, Estes Park, Colo.; Janice Hurley, Gardner; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Frye & Son Mortuary, 105 E. Loula. A burial at the Gardner Cemetery will follow at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army.

Mary Hendrix
Mary E. (Zarda) Hendrix, 69, Kansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at the Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born March 20, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Joseph and Mar Zarda. She was a lifelong area resident. She was co-founder of Go Chicken Go and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, with the rank of L.C.H.S. She was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Bobby Hendrix; and two brothers, Ed and Jim Zarda. Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Hendrix Jr., of the home; three sons, Bill J. Hendrix, Overland Park, Mike Hendrix, Olathe, and Dennis Hendrix, Merriam; three daughters, Peggy Pennington, Shawnee, Mary Pat Beals, Mission, and Caroline Ransier, Kansas City, Kan.; three brothers, Joseph Zarda, Basehor, Ben Zarda and Tom Zarda, both of Shawnee; two sisters, Florence Orr, Roeland Park, and Helen Zarda, Kansas City, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 422 N. 14th St., Kansas City, Kan. The funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Olathe. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to either Catholic Charities, 2220 Central, Kansas City, Kan. 66102, or to the Cathedral of St. Peter's Roof Fund, 422 N. 14th St., Kansas City, Kan. 66102. Maurice Henley
Francis Maurice Henley, 94, St. Louis, died Monday, Jan. 8, at Manor Grove Nursing Home in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Sept. 21, 1906, in Olathe. He lived in Olathe as a youth, then farmed in Johnson and Miami counties. He lived on the farm near Bonita until 1996 when he moved to a retirement home in Olathe. After a brief illness in 1999, he moved to Manor Grove Nursing Home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Nanny Winslow Henley, his wife Goldie Clinkscale Henley, grandson David Henley, six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his son, Dan Henley and wife Barbara, St. Louis, grandson Ronald Henley, St. Louis, sisters-in-law Beth Henley, Olathe, Mary Margaret Henley, Prairie Village and Mary Ellen Henley, Oxnard, Calif., and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 29, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner at 1 p.m. Burial will be at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation will be 11 a.m. before the service at Bruce Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Johnson County 4-H Council of Olathe, or the charity of your choice.

Donald Henning
Donald L. Henning, 86, died Monday at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Olathe. He was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Spokane, Wash., the son of Oscar J. and Letty E. (Lawrence) Henning. He had lived in Olathe for two years, moving here from Tacoma, Wash. He was a member of the People's Church and the Saturday night meetings in Tacoma. He was also a member of the Men's Prayer Breakfast and was minister of music for several churches. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Beckwith-Palin Henning, in 1987; and a brother, Robert Henning. Survivors include a son, Doug Henning, Olathe; two daughters, Dawn Dube, Puyallup, Wash., and Noel Schmid, Shelton, Wash.; and four grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center, 20705 W. 151st Street, Olathe KS, 66061. Funeral arrangements are being handled by W. L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe.

Madge Henry
Madge Lois (Brown) Henry, 80, of Anderson County died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Long Term Care, Anderson County. She was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Anderson County, the daughter of Arthur Lee Brown and Fannie B. (McKelvey). She was a resident of the Garnett area most of her life. She married George Henry in Mound City on April 5, 1939; he preceded her in death on July 31, 1989. She also was preceded in death by a grandson and two sisters. Survivors include four sons, Lee Henry and Stephen Henry, both of Garnett, Michael Henry, Olathe, and Richard Henry, Dallas; a daughter, Nancy Zweiner, Auburn, Kan.; two sisters, Rachel Graham, Springdale, Ark., and Frances Grosdidier, Garnett; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral was Jan. 19 at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Burial was in the Garnett Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established in her name.

Velma Henry
Velma D. Henry, 81, DeSoto, died Tuesday Feb. 27, 2001 at her home. She was born on March 27 in Hume, Mo. She worked at the corner market and Variety Store in DeSoto. She was preceded in death by husband Kenneth Henry. She is survived by four daughters, Judith Midyett, Tuscan, Ariz.; Joyce Stewart, DeSoto, Rebecca Nielsen, Shawnee, Peggie Corrigan, Eudora; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at DeSoto Baptist Church, 8655 Church St., DeSoto. Burial at DeSoto Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., DeSoto, 66018.

Nellie Henson
Nellie A. Henson, 88, died Feb. 4 at Louisburg Care Center, Louisburg. She was born Sept. 23, 1912, in Osawatomie, where she lived most of her life. She was a member of the Midwest Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Henson, and three sons, Charles, Donald and Kenneth. Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Brunts, Osawatomie; two sons Jerry Henson, Sarasota, Fla., and Michael Henson, Oklahoma City, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Stanton Cemetery, Stanton, Kan. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Patricia Heritage
Patricia Painter Heritage, 81, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in Manhattan, Kan. Born in Alexandria, Ind., in 1918, she was the daughter of Clarence E. Painter and Berniece Robinson Painter, descendants of early Madison County settlers. She was a 1936 graduate of the Alexandria High School and attended Indiana University for two years, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Later in Muncie, Ind., she was a member of the Tri Kappa philanthropic sorority. She married John E. Heritage in 1942, and they later moved to Olathe, where he was a plant manager of the Delco Battery plant. After his death in 1981, she moved to Manhattan to be near her son. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Heritage; and a daughter, Kathryn Laughlin. Survivors include a son, John R. Heritage, Randolph, Kan.; a brother, John Painter; a sister, Sara Baker; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Her ashes will be buried next to those of her husband at the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are by the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Manhattan.

Clyde Hesp
Clyde M. Hesp, 77, of Olathe, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1923, in Garnett, the son of Clyde Hesp and Marie Wills. He was a lifetime resident of Garnett, having lived in Olathe the last 5 years. He graduated from Garnett High School in 1941. He married Mildred Lavon (Smith) in Garnett, on Dec. 8, 1943. He was an assistant Post Master. He is a veteran of the army having served in World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church; lifetime member of the American Legion; and Fuller-Thompson Post #48 and VFW Post #6397. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred. He is survived by one son, Mike Hesp, Olathe; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, Garnett; burial in Garnett Cemetery, Garnett. Memorial contributions maybe made to the American Heart Association.

Donald Hess
Donald E. Hess, 54, DeSoto, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1946, in Emporia, Kan., the son of Clair and Lucille (Jack) Hess. He grew up in Madison, Kan., and was a 1964 graduate of Madison High School. He attended Allen County Community College. He married Gail Williams on Dec. 22, 1967, in Gridley; they later divorced. He was a U.S. Army veteran who had served in Germany. He was a plant maintainer for Continental Can Company for the past 18 years. While he had lived in Madison, he had attended the United Methodist Church there. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Chad Hess. Survivors include two sons, Brett Hess, Parsons, and Matthew Hess, DeSoto; a daughter, Kimberly Hess, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother, Lucille Hess, Madison; four brothers, James Hess, Protection, David Hess and Lynn Hess, both of Madison, and Jerry Hess, Coldwater; and a sister, Cindy Albert, Olpe. The funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Wilson Funeral Home, Madison. Burial will follow at the Blakely Cemetery, northwest of Madison. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the Kansas Heart Association, both c/o Wilson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 488, Madison, KS 66860-0488.
