Mary Mahoney
Mary "Susie" Mahoney. 76, Spring Hill, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at Beverly Health and Rehab in Spring Hill. She was born June 20, 1924, in Reidsville, N.C., the daughter of Arthur Borland and Lela Stewart Borland. She moved to Spring Hill in 1977. She also lived in Kansas City, Kan., and Long Beach, Calif. She attended Kansas City, Kan. Community College and beauty college, and was a self-employed beautician for 12 years. She drove a school bus for 10 years, retiring in 1994 from Ryder Co. She was a personnel manager for Levitz in California. She was a member of the Ruritans Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Borland, and another brother who died in early childhood, and three sisters, Elsie, Frances and Bill. Survivors include her husband, Donald Mahoney, of the home; a son, Michael Mahoney, Spring Hill; a daughter, Cindy Miller, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Betty Lou Borland, Greensboro, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, at the Bruce Funeral Home in Spring Hill. Burial will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to the Women's Sunflower Ruritans Club.

Conner Mahr
Conner Darlene Mahr, stillborn daughter of Will Mahr and Lisa Conner, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Survivors include her parents, Will Mahr, Olathe, and Lisa Conner, Paola; a brother, Tyler Francis, of the home; three grandparents, H.H. Mahr, Osawatomie, Lori Rose, Osawatomie, and Glenn Crossland, Paola; and three uncles, Brandon Conner, Nicholas Crossland and Kyle Crossland, all of Paola. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola; the graveside service will be 2 p.m. at the Paola Cemetery. Randy Mallonee
Randy Mallonee, 53, of Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, May 18, 2001, at his home. He was born July 29, 1947, to the late Edward Mallonee and Ruby Mallonee of Hermitage, Mo. His family moved to Olathe in 1959, where he graduated from Olathe High School. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated from Baker University. He was Young Republican chairman of the State of Kansas and worked 12 years for E.F. Hutton. He worked with his mother and father at Mallonee Chevrolet and Mobile Sales in Tonganoxie. He started working as a dealer when "Harrah's" opened. He and his wife also spent their time keeping up their rental property. Survivors include his wife, Lynn; two sons, Sean and Scott Mallonee; his daughter-in-law, Yolanda; his mother, Ruby Mallonee, Hermitage, Mo.; one grandson; four uncles and four aunts; and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today t W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory in Olathe. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. in the Antioch Cemetery, Wheatland, Mo., near the Pomme de Terre Dam.

Gene Malone Sr.
Gene C. Malone Sr., 80, Tonganoxie, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Manor Care in Overland Park. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Bonner Springs, the son of Earl and Elsie (Peterson) Malone. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was married in Olathe on Aug. 24, 1940 to Dorothy N. Hillers. They moved to Tonganoxie in 1991 after retiring from their farm. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 22, 1999. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Harry, Fred and David, and two sisters, Naomi Klamm and Lois Beavers. Survivors include one son: Eugene C. Malone Jr., Linwood; one daughter: Patricia Russell, Olathe; four sisters: Francis Landsberg, Odessa, Mo., Ruby Crossen, Iola, Kan., Emma Lou Nelson, Waterville, Kan., and Earlen Smarr, Gig Harbor, Wa.; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services are to be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery, Tonganoxie. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Josephine Manning
Josephine M. Manning, 77, Olathe, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 at Olathe Medical Center. She was born, June 6, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Joseph Charles and Margaret May (Twiehouse) Lewis. She had been a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert Manning, who died in 1984; one brother, Joe Lewis; and three sisters; Margaret Richardson, Flousce Wyatte and Lela Middleton. Survivors include four sons, Richard White, Olathe; Gordon White, Wellsville; Gary Manning, Ottawa, and Mike Manning, Olathe; one sister, Francis Middleton, Independence; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, at W. L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. Marian Manning
Marian Lea Franklin Manning, 58, Olathe, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at her home. She was born March 22, 1942, in Hutchinson. She was a graduate of Wichita Southeast High School, and later had Montessori teacher training. She moved to Olathe in the early 1960s. She was the owner of Heritage Montessori School in Olathe in the 1970s. She taught Montessori school for 15 years in Olathe and at the Emmanuel Christian School in Gardner for two years. She married David L. Manning April 25, 1993, in Wellsville. She was an active member of New Life Family Worship Center, Gardner. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan E. Martin; and her mother, Dottie Lea Martin Newell. Survivors include her husband, David Manning, of the home; three sons, Brent L. Franklin, Shawnee, Bryan N. Franklin, Olathe, and Bradley M. Franklin, Gardner; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Wynn, Gardner; her father Marion Q. Newell, Wichita; two brothers, Edward Newell, Mulvane, and Larry B. Newell, Wichita; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, with the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., at the New Life Family Worship Center, Gardner. Burial will be at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Owen Manson Jr.
Owen C. Manson Jr., 78, Rantoul, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at his home. He was born May 13, 1913, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Owen Clay and Eunice (Willett) Manson Sr. He grew up in the Kansas City area and attended schools there, graduating from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army for four years, beginning in 1939, and later joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the military 23 years until his retirement in 1966 at the level of E-7. During World War II, he served on the USS President Polk carrier in the Pacific. He married Maxine Unkenholz May 10, 1946. He also served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He had lived in the Rantoul area since April 1978. He worked as a self-employed contractor and carpenter for many years. He was a member and a deacon of Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge, the American Legion at Shawnee, the International Order of Odd Fellows in Kansas City, Kan., and the Abdallah Shrine Temple in Overland Park. He was preceded in death by a sister, Fern Bush. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of the home; a son, Jack R. Manson, Leawood; two daughters, Linda Jensen, Rantoul, and Peggy Gibson, Kansas City, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Viewing will be after 9 a.m. today at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at the Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul. Burial will be at the Ruhamah Cemetery. Clarissa Marks
Clarissa Irene Marks, 83, Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000. She was born April 11, 1907, in Grandview, Mo. She was retired from St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Surviving are two sons, Perry D. Marks, Bonner Springs, and Robert H. Marks, Phoenix; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be buried in Harrisonville, Mo.

Donald Marlar
Donald Marlar, 68, Olathe, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of J. Virgil and Mary W. (Lathrop) Marlar. He married Velma Armstrong on Oct. 6, 1956. He most recently was employed by the Olathe South High School. He had retired from Olathe Ford in 1997. He was a member of the Elks Club in Casper, Wyo., and a special deputy of the sheriff's department in Caspar. Survivors include his wife, Velma Marlar, of the home; two sons, Kenneth Marlar, Minneapolis, Minn., and Jerrel Marlar, Toledo, Wash.; two daughters, Carol Henry, San Diego, Calif., and Sandra Walker, Gardner; his mother, Mary W. Marlar, Olathe; a brother, Richard Marlar, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and five grandchildren. The memorial service will be 10 a.m. Sunday at the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe. Stephen Marler
Stephen Lee Marler, 16, Olathe, died March 15, 2000, at Kansas City, Mo. He was born May 24, 1983, in Beeville, Texas, the son of Monte Marler and Dorothy (Prock) Marler-Enright. He had lived in Olathe since 1991. He attended the Lenexa Christian Center and the College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe. He was a junior at Olathe North High School. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fred and Gioja Prock. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Donald Enright, Olathe; his father, Monte Marler, Klamath Falls, Ore.; two brothers, Monte Marler Jr., Lenexa, and Michael Enright, Olathe; three sisters, Stefanie Marler and Nicole Enright, both of Olathe, and Tasha Marler, Oregon; and his paternal grandparents, Thorman Miller, Missouri, and Carolee Beall, Oregon. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 18, at W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. The funeral will be noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Clarence Marlow Sr.
Clarence A. Marlow Sr., 87, Ottawa, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at Royal Terrace Care Center in Olathe. He was born February 6, 1914, at Burwell, Neb., the son of John Earl and Myrtle May (Mansfield) Marlow. He moved with his family to Pawhuska, in Osage County, Okla., where he grew up and attended school. He later attended barber school before moving to Kansas City, Kan. On Nov. 26, 1952, he married Colista Amelia Broaddus in Kansas City. They shared nearly 42 years of married life together before her death on Oct. 3, 1993. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company in Kansas City for nearly 38 years as an instrument craftsman before his retirement in 1969. He lived most of his working career in Kansas City before moving to the Melvern area after his retirement in 1969. They resided there until moving to Ottawa in 1973. He was a former member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union in Kansas City and the Williamsburg Wildlife Club. He was an avid fisherman and a skilled woodworker. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Mary Helen Kimbley in 1992; two brothers, Earl and Loyd Marlow; and two sisters, Minnie Beck and Letha Vince. He is survived by six grandchildren, including Lee Secrest and her husband, Bill, of Spring Hill who cared for him, Glennis Folsom, Topeka, Connie Layson, Columbus, Ohio and Robert Kimbley, Olathe; nine great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great granddaughters. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday at the Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa, where the family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Saturday before proceeding to the cemetery. Virginia Marriott
Virginia Marie Marriott, 83, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Country Haven Nursing Center, Paola. She was a lifelong resident of Gardner, and was born Dec. 8, 1916, on the family farm near Gardner, the daughter of George A. Marriott and Frances Ellen (Skees) Marriott. She was a 1934 graduate of Gardner High School. She was a nurse, working as a lab technician and X-ray technician at the Reece Hospital and Gardner Medical Center for 34 years. She retired in 1980. She worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant near DeSoto during World War II. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner, and the church's Altar Society. She recently moved to Paola to be near her brother. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Pat Marriott and George Marriott; two sisters, Frances Toplikar and Mary Bernice Marriott; a niece, Mary Beth Marriott; and her parents. Survivors include a brother, Brendan Marriott, Osawatomie; four nieces, Irene Lehman, Gardner, Brenda Minden, Osawatomie, Nancy Frazier, Memphis, Tenn., and Patricia McLarem, Fort Collins, Colo.; and five nephews, Mike Marriott and George Marriott, both of Gardner, Richard Toplikar, Aurora, Colo., Fred Toplikar, Sioux City, Iowa, and Jim Marriott, Adrian, Mo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner. Burial will be at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Robert Marshall
Robert Gene Marshall, 77, died on Friday, April 13, 2001. He was born August 13, 1923, in Humboldt, Neb. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941, and married Amy Holechek on Dec. 27, 1942. He was inducted into the armed forces Oct. 31, 1944, and served with the 7th Cavalry in the Philippine Islands, and with the Occupation Forces in Tokyo, Japan. After being discharged in 1946, He farmed south of Humboldt until 1966. For the next 22 years, he and his wife managed Best Western Motels in Marysville, Kan., Columbus, Kan., and Harrisonville, Mo., and Olathe. He retired in 1988. He was preceded in death by his wife; mother and father, Marie and Elton Marshall; and a sister, Betty Gifford. He is survived by a brother, Larry Marshall; three children, Terry Marshall, Rebecca Marshall, and Penny Chura; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Sue Marshall
Sue Ann Marshall, 45, DeSoto, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., from a liver transplant. She was born Nov. 9, 1955, in Kansas City, Kan. She was raised in the Kansas City, Kan., area, raising her children in DeSoto. Survivors include her husband, Richard Marshall, DeSoto; two daughters, Heather Marshall, DeSoto, and Bobbi Newman, Basehor; son, Tony Marshall, DeSoto; two grandchildren, Lawson Marshall and Nicole Marshall; her mother, Ruby Arnold; her father, Vernon Liston; six sisters; and three brothers. The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Cedar Creat Memorial Chapel, DeSoto. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be at the DeSoto Cemetery.

Wilbert Marshall
Wilbert "Buck" W. Marshall, 88, DeSoto, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Indian Creek Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Sherwood Junction, Kan. He was one of six children. He moved to DeSoto at 18 years of age. He attended DeSoto Baptist Church. He worked as a farmhand despite his disabilities. He had many friends that watched over him, for he always chose to live on his own, raising dairy cows. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hilda Dora Blakesley, and father, Albert Marshall. Survivors include his sister, Ruby Lackey, Independence, Mo., and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Cedar Crest Memorial, 32665 Lexington Ave., DeSoto. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the DeSoto Cemetery.

Leo Martin
Leo J. Martin, 76, of rural Cherokee, Kan., died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was born Nov. 21, 1924, at Scammon, Kan., the son of Joseph and Madalena Vacca Martin. He attended school in Scammon and Weir, graduating in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1950 to 1952. He has been lifetime resident of rural Cherokee, and was a farmer raising shorthorn cattle throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon, Knights of Columbus No. 3316, American Shorthorn Association, 4-H Ledger, Little League Coach, Keith Reeves American Legion Post No. 3, Veterans of Foreign War Post No. 3, School Board Member USD No. 247, and Rural Water District No. 4 Board member. He married Anna Marie O'Malley on Aug. 21, 1954. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Gregg Martin and his wife, Linda of Carl Junction, Mo., and Jeff Martin and his wife, Betty, of Scammon, Kan.; two daughters, Becky Medved and her husband, Rich, of Olathe, and Gina Peak and her husband, Darrell of Scammon; one sister, Bridget Martin of Scammon; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Benny, Joe W., John A., and Ed Martin; and one sister, Madeline Lucian. He will lay in state at the Simpson Funeral Home, Columbus, Kan. after 10 a.m. today. Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today. The Knights of Columbus rosary will follow at 7:30. The family will receive friends after the rosaries. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Scammon. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Scammon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Bridget's or a scholarship fund to be designated by the family.

Lester Martin
Lester Roselle Martin, 94, Olathe, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at the Villa St. Francis, Olathe. He was born Feb. 8, 1906, in Tribune, Kan., the son of Leonard W. and Nellie (Sprague) Martin, and had lived in Topeka. He had attended Topeka High School and Strickler's Business College in Topeka. He married E. Marie Drane on April 17, 1932, in Lawrence. He was a civilian instructor for 20 months for the U.S. Army Air Force and a teller at Merchants National Bank for years. He also was a self-employed electrician for 26 years, before retiring in 1980. He moved to Olathe in June 1993. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, on Oct. 25, 1987; and a daughter, Marilyn Ann Collura, in 1957. Survivors include a son, Ralph L. Martin, Olathe; a daughter, Donna M. Stadel, Olathe; two grandsons; and six great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at the Parker-Price Mortuary, Topeka. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. The graveside service and burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka. Michael Martin
Michael Samuel Martin, 5 weeks, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in DeSoto. He was born Dec. 2, 2000, in Olathe. Survivors include his parents, Michael Martin and Shelly Williams, DeSoto; paternal grandparents, Gary and Anita Martin, DeSoto; and maternal grandparents, Jim and Barbra Williams, Independence, Mo., and Gary and Janet Padgett, Gardner. The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at DeSoto Baptist Church, 8655 Church St Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the church. John Massey
Louisburg, Kan. - John Robert Massey, DDS, 78, Louisburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at his home, after a brief battle against melanoma. He was born Sept. 18, 1922, near Sun City, Kan., the son of Ralph and Blanch (Campbell) Massey, and reared on the Massey ranch in Sun City. He graduated from Kansas State College, now Kansas State University, where he met his wife of 54 years, Patricia Zellner. At K-State, he was a member of the Farmhouse fraternity, the K-State baseball team, and the livestock judging team. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as the company commander of the 3rd Army's 65th Infantry Division, and received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement. He also was a Korean War veteran, having served in the 6th Armored and the 82nd Airborne divisions. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City's Dental School, and practiced dentistry in Lenexa for more than 30 years. He served on the Lenexa Planning Commission under six mayors. He was a life member of the American, Kansas and 5th District dental associations; and a member of numerous civic clubs, and veterans and farm associations. He also was a member of the Kansas State University President Club, Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund, and Legends of KSU Basketball. He had continued to edit and publish monthly newsletters for the 261st Infantry and the Legend of Sixty until his death. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of the home; two daughters, Robin O'Dell, Olathe, and Johnette Hodgin, Houston, Texas; two brothers, Nathan Massey, Montezuma, and David Massey, Louisburg; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe; attendees are asked to wear purple, in honor of his love for K-State. Visitation will immediately follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Basic Cancer Research or the KSU Foundation at Kansas State University, Manhattan, or to the Johnson County Hospice. Lyle Matthews
Lyle Eugene Matthews, 65, formerly of Wessington, S.D., died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, in Hanford Community Hospital, in Hanford, Calif. Death was caused by a massive stroke. He was born July 9, 1935. He was a 30-year veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. After retirement, he worked a short period with the Lemoore High School before working for Pioneer Elementary School in Hanford, Calif. He belonged to a few bluegrass music organizations which he dearly enjoyed. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Keith; his parents, Blanche and Leo Matthews; brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Donald Matthews; and a sister, Doris Rex. Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Edith (Edee) Dana Matthews, formerly of Gardner; a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Kim Matthews of Coalinga, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Albert Medina, Hanford, Calif.; and a foster daughter, Tracie and Lucky Drees of Lemoore, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Arlene Matthews, Nadine Matthews, and brother-in-law, Floyd Rex; sisters-in-law, Pauline Dana of Olathe; Georgie and John Riggs, Mableton, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two foster grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday in Hanford, Calif. Graveside services will be at the Lemoore Cemetery, Lemoore, Calif. Floyd Mawhiney
Floyd R. Mawhiney, 82, Kansas City, Kan., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center. Floyd was born May 16, 1919, in Malta Bend, Mo., living in Kansas City, Kan., for the past 51 years. He was a mechanic for International Harvester for almost 30 years, retiring in 1981. He attended Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley A. Mawhiney, and four sisters and one brother. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon and husband, Frank Clark, and Lana and husband, Ron Weiterman, all of Olathe; a half-brother, Clifford Mawhiney of Georgia; eight grandchildren, Patty and husband, Mark Given, Gina and husband, Clark Sehon, Sheila and husband, Shane Thompson, Buddy and wife, Debbie Clark, Dana and husband, Ken Coody, Matthew and wife, Shelby Clark, Chris and wife, Trisha Weiterman, Bridget Clark; and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 143rd and Black Bob Road in Olathe. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Church of the Nazarene, 87th and Quivira, in Lenexa. Shirley Mawhiney
Shirley Arlene Mawhiney, 75, Olathe, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Detroit, Mich. She had lived in Olathe for the past eight years, having come from Kansas City, Kan., where she and her husband, Floyd R. Mawhiney, had lived for nearly 50 years. She worked as a cook for the Shawnee Mission School District for five years, before working for about 10 years at the K-Mart in Overland Park. She was a member of the Central Church of the Nazarene in Lenexa, where she served in various capacities. She also was a volunteer for the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Shawnee, and the City Union Mission, Kansas City, Mo. Survivors include her husband, Floyd R. Mawhiney, of the home; two daughters, Sharon Clark and Lana Weiterman, both of Olathe; a brother, Glenn Loveless, Stilwell; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe. The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Central Church of the Nazarene, Lenexa. Burial will be at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. David May
U.S. Marine Corp Lance Cpl. David Patrick Clayton May, 21, of Olathe, formerly of Perry, Kan., died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Naples, Italy. He was born on Nov. 20, 1979 in Topeka, the son of David Thomas and Rhonda Renee Brannock May. He was a lifelong resident of Perry. May was a member of the Marine Corp Security Force, 1st FAST Unit, stationed in Norfolk, Va. He was transferred to Italy for training. He had served two years and four months after his basic training at the Marine Corp Recruitment Depot in San Diego, Calif. May was a member of the Williamstown Assembly of God Church, Williamstown, Kan. He was a member of the church youth group that served on a mission trip to Mexico. He was a 1998 graduate of Perry-LeCompton High School, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams for four years and a member of the track team for two years. He attended the Kaw Area Vocational and Technical School in Topeka and received a welding certificate. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Rhonda R. and Chuck Royer, Olathe; a father and stepmother, David T. and Debra A. May, Eudora; three sisters, Ronna May, Perry, KS., Amanda May, and Jennifer May, both of Olathe; five stepbrothers and three stepsisters; his paternal grandmother, Darlene May of Perry, and maternal grandparents, Ronald and Evelyn Brannock, Perry. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the American Legion Post #142 building in Perry. Burial with military honors will be at Buster Cemetery, Perry. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, Kan. Memorials may be made to the Williamstown Assembly of God Church in care of the Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Louis Mayden
A former Carroll Country, Mo., resident, Louis Wayne Mayden, 65, of Louisburg, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born Feb. 22, 1935, in rural Carroll County, the son of Joe and Emma (Jones) Mayden. He attended Carrollton schools. He served in the U.S. Army and the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He was an auto mechanic and recently retired from the Laidlaw Bus Company. He married Cindy Elliott on Oct. 17, 1971, in Miami, Okla. She survives at the home. Other survivors include three children from a previous marriage, Terri Kaye Davis, Colorado, and Kenneth Joseph Mayden and Ginna Bloss, both of Independence, Mo.; five sisters, Betty Coleman, Grandview, Mo., Norma Henderson, Lexington, Mo., Rose Ashby, Kansas City, Mo., Thelma Watson, Renick, Mo., and Becky Webb, Marshall, Mo.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Harold, Donald, and Jewell Lee Mayden. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Carroll Memory Gardenscemeteryin Carrollton with the Rev. Bert Hughes officiating. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Fund or the Olathe Medical Center in his memory. Hallie Mayes
LENEXA - Hallie A. Gillett Mayes, 98, Olathe, died March 22, 2001 at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa. She was born July 28, 1902 in Bucyrus, Kan., the daughter of William H. Cooper and Linnie B. Hendrick. She was a housewife and worked at an Olathe drug store until her sons were born. She loved sewing, gardening and cooking for her family. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Grover Mayes and Lester Gillett; and her parents, William and Linnie (Hedrick) Cooper. Survivors include a son, Everett Mayes, Lancaster, Calif.; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Services will be 1 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at the Lenexa Cemetery, Lenexa. Friends may call Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m., at the W. L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe.
