Eva Stack
Eva Stack, 89, Olathe, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at her home. She was born, Nov. 11, 1913, in Bedford, Iowa, the daughter of Ivan and Eva (Jenkins) Cloud. She taught at the School for the Deaf in Delavan, Wis., retiring in 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Stack. Survivors include a brother, Eugene Cloud, Climax Springs, Mo.; a nephew, Jon Stack, Overland Park; and a niece, Alberta Merrit, Olathe. Cremation. Burial will be private at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. The family suggests contributions be made to the Kansas City Hospice Foundation, 1625 W. 92nd Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.

Geraldine Stafford
TURON, Kan. - Geraldine Leona Stafford, 75, died March 15, 2001, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita. She was born July 26, 1925, at Gaylord, the daughter of Louis and Amanda Wolf Bechtold. She was a 1943 graduate of Formoso High School. She was a Turon resident moving from Larned in September 2000, a retired secretary for the Pawnee County Engineers office. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Larned. She married Earl Stafford Jr. July 24, 1944, in Beloit. He survives. Other survivors include two sons: Rev. Richard Stafford, Ulysses, and Stanley Stafford, Olathe; two daughters: Joan Green, Turon, and Diane Stafford, Texarkana, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Bechtold; two sisters: Aileen Layland and Wilma Bechtold; and a great-granddaughter, Holly Green. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Wesley Stamp Sr.
Wesley Stamp Sr., 83, Omaha, Neb., died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha. He was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Persia, Iowa., the son of Herman Stamp and Dora (Martens) Stamp. He was a painter for the Omaha Housing Authority. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the Christ The King Catholic Church. He married Augusta Leinen, who survives of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Wesley Stamp Jr., Fort Calhoun, Neb., and Phillip Stamp, Gretna, Neb.; four daughters, Barbara Stevens, Omaha, Elizabeth Stamp, Aurora, Colo., Lori Stamp, Olathe, and Marilyn Barker, Fairfax, Va.; a brother, Alden Stamp, Persia, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Christ The King Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Calvary Mausoleum with full military honors by Neola American Legion Post No. 330. Augusta E. Stamper, 67, of Olathe, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at her home. She was born August 13, 1933, in Fisk, Mo. She was a nurse at Royal Terrace for five years. Survivors include two sons, Kip Stamper, Olathe; and Kirk Stamper, Paola; two daughters, Debra Zimmerman, Stilwell, Kan.; and Rhonda Davis, Spring Hill; and two sisters, Esta King, St. Louis, Mo.; Ocie Fain, Los Animas, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mary Stan
Mary Stan, 84, Lawrence, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at her home. She was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Alliance, Ohio, the daughter of Filimon and Estina Mann. She was a homemaker and had formerly worked as a clerk at TG&Y for 16 years. She moved to Lawrence in 1957 from Sunflower Village. She married George A. Stan, Aug. 29, 1937, in Dearborne, Mich. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 13, 1997. Survivors include five daughters, Rosemary McAninch and Norma A. Bedford, both of DeSoto, Joann Seele, Dacono, Colo., Virginia C. Marshall, Lawrence, and Viola Kelley, Wichita; two sons, George, Lawrence, and Michael, Olathe; one sister, Jenny Sullivan, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A prayer service will be 7 p.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church followed by family visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 18, at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Douglas County and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence.

Cecil Stangle
Cecil L. Stangle, 77, of Russell died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at home. He was born March 1, 1922, in Florence, Kan., the son of Oliver Stangle and Faye Emily (McCallister) Stangle. He was reared in east central Kansas; attended school at Madison, Kan.; and graduated from high school at Holyrood. He married Norma Jean Wagner, June 11, 1951, in Ellsworth, Kan. After marriage, he lived at Holyrood before moving to Gorham in the mid-1950s, then moved to Russell in 1958. He worked for many years as a petroleum engineer for Sohio Oil Co. He was a member of VFW Post No. 6240, Russell, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Lloyd, Vestal and Kenneth Stangle; and an infant sister, Lurline Stangle. Survivors include his wife Norma of the home; a son, Garrick Stangle, Olathe; a daughter, Allyn (Margaret) Elliott, Lawrence; two brothers, Don Stangle, Newton, and Everett C. Stangle, St. George, Utah; a sister, Luella Bales, Snyder, Texas; and a grandson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Pohlman's Mortuary, Russell; and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Russell. Grace Stansbury
Grace Olive Stansbury, 93, of the Apostolic Christian Home, Sabetha, formerly of Olathe, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000. She was born June 25, 1907, at Guide Rock, Neb., where she attended high school and grew up. She attended Peru State Teachers College and became a teacher. She had taught many years at the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, and had lived in the Olathe area many years. She married Harlan Mann, who preceded her in death. She later married Charles Bilger, who preceded her in death in the early 1990s. She married Wesley Stansbury five years ago; they recently had made their home in the Apostolic Christian Village in Sabetha. She also was preceded in death by a son, Edward Mann. Survivors include her husband, Wesley Stansbury, Sabetha; two daughters, Clara Holland, Kansas City, Kan., and Sarah Moore, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be at a later date at the chapel of the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha. Arrangements are by the Popkess Mortuary, Sabetha.

Rev. Lenore Stanton
Rev. H. Lenore Stanton (O'Donnell), 99, retired United Methodist minister, died on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Hooper of Hutchinson; and Cora Wright of Olathe; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorials have been established with the Good Samaritan Fund of Topeka and the Piedmont United Methodist Church in Piedmont. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the United Methodist Home in Topeka. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Piedmont Cemetery in Piedmont. John Steed
John Thomas Steed, 93, Olathe, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at the Johnson County Nursing Home, Olathe. He was born June 28, 1907, near DeSoto, the son of Earl Ray Steed and Myrtle (Davis) Steed. He lived in DeSoto until 1993, when he moved to live with his stepdaughter in Olathe. He had worked as a self-employed mechanic and at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant near DeSoto. He first married Dorothy Bone. He later married Laura Faye (Harmon) Steed, who preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1994. Survivors include a son, Donald Ray Steed, La Pine, Ore.; five stepsons, Howard R. Gordon, Baldwin, Allan L. Gordon, Eugene, Ore., David R. Gordon, Olathe, Jerry Gordon, Pharr, Texas, and Herbert Ray Gordon, Atlanta, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Laura Cannon, Olathe; brother Ralph Ray Steed, Edgerton; 23 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. John Stephens
John W. Stephens, 59, Olathe, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at his home. He was born January 18, 1942, in West Union, Iowa, living in Olathe the past 30 years. He was a graduate of Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas and the University of Arkansas. He taught math at MidAmerica Nazarene University for 30 years and also served as registrar and Vice President of Finance. He was a member of the College Church of the Nazarene. He served on the Olathe Public Library Board for many years. He also served as chairman of the board and board member of Faith Village. He is preceded in death by his mother, Vera Stephens. He is survived by his wife, Janice Stephens of the home; two sons, David Stephens, Overland Park, and Randy Stephens, Gainsville, Fla.; a daughter, Nicole Stephens, Olathe; his father, the Rev. Raymond Stephens, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two brothers, Winston Stephens, Indianapolis, Ind., and Paul Stephens, Olathe; and a sister, Leita Lillibridge, Scott City, Mo. Edward P. Stevens, 79, Wichita, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000. He was born May 20, 1920, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Michael Stevens and Alma Estafan. He was a retired barber and bowling proprietor. Survivors include four sons, Edward, Derby, Michael, Lenexa, Gerard, Waco, Texas, and Phillip, Olathe; five daughters, Cecilia Manzardo, Springfield, Mo., Barbara Jensen, Mary Moman and Paulinda Zacharias, all of Wichita, and Judy Clapper, Bellingham, Wash.; three sisters, Mabel Welsh, Wichita, Rosemary Beckman, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Eva Hogan, Hastings, Neb.; 34 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Michael Stevens
Michael L. Stevens, 51, Stilwell, died Tuesday, May 8, at the St. Luke's South Hospital. He was born May, 6, 1950, in Eldorado, Kan., and was raised in Augusta, Kan. He married Sheridan Leigh Stevens on Feb. 27, 1971, and they moved to Salina, Kan., where they started their family. He raised his four children while working as a computer control engineer and helping start a new church. In 1989, he moved his family to Stilwell, where he worked to start yet another new church. His family and his church were his entire life. Survivors include his wife, Sheridan; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Jennifer; a daughter, Sarah; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Cindy; his son, Matt; his mother, Norma Stevens; a sister, Jan Scaffidi; and four grandchildren. Sidney Stevens
Sidney R. Stevens, 83, of Grandview, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at his daughter's home. He was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Gladstone, Mo. He had lived in the Olathe area until he moved to Springfield, Mo., in 1980, returning to Grandview this year. He was a member of U.A.W. Local 31, working for General Motors Fairfax Plant for 30 years. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Olathe and the College Street Baptist Church in Springfield. He was preceded in death by five brothers; one sister; and one great-granddaughter, Jude Elizabeth Perkins, in 1995. Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of the home; son, Ralph Stevens, Maple Hills; two daughters, Rita and husband, Don Perkins Lee's Summit, Mo., and Angie and husband, David Thompson, Raytown, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at Grandview Chapel of E.K. George and Sons. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home. Nellie Stiner
Nellie E. Stiner, 93, Olathe, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born Nov. 20, 1907, in Home City, Kan., and had lived in Olathe since 1983. She and her late husband, Merl Stiner, farmed near the Frankfort and Vermillion, Kan. areas from 1925 to 1970, when they retired. She was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vermillion, Kan., where she enjoyed quilting with the church's women's circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merl Stiner, in 1990, a son, Leonard Linnea Stiner, in 1944; a grandson, Steven Merl Stiner in 1953; five sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include three sons, John A. Stiner of Vliets, Kan., Loren L. Stiner of San Antonio, Texas, and Ross Stiner of Olathe; a daughter, Marilyn M. Wolff, Olathe; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, Kan. Jack Striker
Jack E. Striker, 77, Olathe, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born Dec. 7, 1922, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Edgar and Elsie (Smith) Striker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked as a welder for the government at the naval ammunitions depot in Hastings, Neb. He was transferred to the Olathe area and worked at the naval air station before retiring in 1969. He was preceded in death by a grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Lela Striker, of the home; two sons, Larry and Jerry Striker, both of Olathe; two daughters, Dixie Giger, Olathe, and Diane Pervett, Hastings, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Edgar Cemetery, Edgar, Neb. Local arrangements are by the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary, Olathe.

Peggy Stroud
Peggy Joanna Stroud, 67, of Osceola, Iowa, died Feb. 14, 2001, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa. She was born May 5, 1933, in Olathe, the daughter of William and Anna Davis. She graduated from Olathe High School. On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Melvin Lee Stroud in Hope, Ark., and they had two children. She was raised in Olathe but had lived in Murray, Iowa, for the last 35 years. She was a bookkeeper for the Murray Office of Union Gas of Iowa. After retiring, she became a school aide at the Murray Community School. She enjoyed being involved in any activity that benefited the Murray School or Murray Community. She was a member of the Murray Community Development Corp.; Murray Athletic Boosters; Murray School Donation; and the Murray American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included quilting and keeping her lawn nicely mowed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin, in 1993; sister, Shirley Dingus; and sister, Barbara, and brother, Richard, both of infancy. Survivors include her son, Roy Stroud and wife, Karen of Winterset, Iowa; daughter, Jodi Stroud of Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Jack Davis and wife, Ruth, of Olathe; brother, Gene Davis and wife, Donna of Oklahoma; brothers-in-law Cecil Stroud and wife, Rita of LaCygne; Jim Dorsey and wife, Mary of Olathe; and Dick Dorsey and wife, Kathy of Wellsville; and two grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests an offering to Jodi Stroud, 8303 Twana Drive, Urbandale, Iowa 50322, for a memorial to Peggy Joanna Stroud at the Murray School.

Calvin Studebaker
Calvin E. Studebaker, 82, rural Fredonia, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Beverly Health and Rehab. He was born June 18, 1918, in rural Fredonia, the son of Carl J. Studebaker Sr. and Lula (Wass) Studebaker. He married Cecelia Violett on April 3, 1940, in Eureka, Kan. He was the fire chief for the city of Fredonia for 30 years, utilities superintendent for 12 years, and Civil Defense director for many years. He was a fireman for 56 years and served on the Rescue Squad during that time. He also worked as a small-appliance repairman, electrician and auto mechanic, and was the original owner of Studebaker Refrigeration. He was a member of the Grange, ATA and the Wilson County Fair Board. Survivors include his wife, Cecelia; two sons, Tom Studebaker and Jack Studebaker, both of Fredonia; two daughters, Ruth Ann Goodman, Benton, Kan., and Kay Thomas, Olathe; two brothers, his twin Cavin Studebaker and Joe Studebaker, both of Fredonia; a sister, Barbara Tharp, Fredonia; six grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia. The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Fredonia City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fredonia Fire Department, where a memorial fund has been established in his name.

William Stuteville
William (Bill) Harden Stuteville died Jan. 9, 2001, at Overland Park Regional Hospital. He was born June 29, 1911, to Clarence Harper Stuteville and Katie Mabel (Pedigo) Stuteville. He was married to Eileen Alma (Post) Stuteville on March 16, 1934. He was a lifelong resident of the Stilwell/Spring Hill area. He retired from Kansas City Power and Light after 26 years of service. He was the oldest, lifetime member of the Stilwell United Methodist Church. He was a 33rd-degree mason and belonged to the Scottish Rite. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Eileen, his parents and one daughter, Merrian Stuteville. Also by his brothers, Jimmie Stuteville, Leon Stuteville and his sister, Beulah Croan. He is survived by his current wife of eight years, Willie O. (Hughes) Stuteville and his brother, Arthur Stuteville. Also, his children, Chester Stuteville, Joanne (Stuteville) Goodloe, Kenneth Stuteville, Benny Stuteville and Frances (Stuteville) Cline. He was grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the Runyan Chapel in Louisburg. The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 13at 10 a.m. at the Stilwell United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell. The family suggests contributions to the church.

James Stresewski
James E. Stresewski, 58, of Olathe, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at his home. He was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Baltimore, Md., and had lived in Olathe for the past 24 years. He was a graduate of Parkville High School in Maryland in 1960. He was a graduate of Kansas State University in 1968 with a nuclear engineering degree. While at KSU, he was the president of Steel Ring, an honorary engineering society. He was also a member of a scholastic engineering fraternity "Tau Beta Pi". He was a veteran of the U.S.Air Force. He was an engineer at Black and Veatch, specializing in air quality control after 24 years of service. He was formerly a nuclear engineer for GE, where he was involved in startup testing of nuclear power plants. One of the highlights, in his capacity with both Black and Veatch and GE, was his international travel. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Olathe where he formerly served as member and president of the church council. He was a member of the MOKAN Division of the American Nuclear Society. He was also a member of Western Maryland Railway Historical Association. He was a youth soccer and softball coach. He was a volunteer usher for the Folly Theater in Kansas City. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Stresewski, in 1997; and a brother, Terry Stresewski, in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Jane Stresewski, of the home; a daughter, Joy and husband, Bart Lillich, Spring, Hill; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 515 S. Ridgeview, Olathe. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Jay Suddreth
Jay B. Suddreth, 82, Lenexa, died Monday, May 1, 2000, at his home. He had worked as a truck driver for Belger Cartage Service, Kansas City, Kan., for 30 years, and was a former Southern Baptist deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Franklin Suddreth, in 1988. Survivors include three sons, James and Jeffrey Suddreth, both of Olathe, and Jay Suddreth, Shawnee; a daughter, Jeanne Shinkle, Fairway; four brothers, Troy, George and Charles Suddreth, all of Lenoir, N.C., and Tom Suddreth, Kinston, N.C.; a sister, Fletus Yoelson, Charlotte, N.C.; two grandsons; five granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary, Olathe.

Laura Sullivan
Laura Agnes Sullivan, 75, Olathe, died Friday, Jan. 26, at Royal Terrace Care Center. She was born May 4, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo. She lived there most of her life, although she had lived in Olathe since 1977. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Austin Brady Hawkins, in 1998. Eliza Summers
Eliza Ann Summers, 77, Olathe, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born May 21, 1923, in Gonce, Ala., and had lived in New Lyme, Ohio, most of her life. She lived two years in Texas, and had lived in Kansas since June 1994. She was a machinist-mechanic for G.E. Enterprises, retiring in 1981 after 35 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Cortright; a daughter, Norma Thrush; a brother; and two sister. Survivors include a brother, Rosser Summers, Rome, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jennifer Thrush, Shawnee; and a great-grandson. Cremation. Arrangements are by the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe.

Betty Sundbye
Betty L. Sundbye, 68, Olathe, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Olathe Medical Center. She was born April 19, 1932, in Olathe, and was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. She graduated from St. John's High School in Olathe, and was a designer at Rosewin Coat Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1997. Survivors include her mother, Leona Sundbye, Olathe; a brother, Chester Sundbye, Las Vegas, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary.

William Surber
William "Bill" L. Surber, 76, of Olathe, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born March 21, 1924, in Lenexa, the son of Samuel Surber and Betty White Surber. He lived in Rosedale, Kan., Ocheltree, Kan. for 50 years, and Olathe for eight years. He married Margaret L. Duffield on April 27, 1944, in Olathe. He was a truck driver and self-employed contracting with Builders Sand in Bonner Springs, for 10 years. He also worked for Wicke Produce in Olathe and Union Gas, Olathe. He was in the Army for five years and served during World War II. He was a member of the Louisburg Baptist Church, Louisburg; Spring Hill Lions Club; Volunteer Fire Department; served on the 1950s Ocheltree School Board; and American Legion of Spring Hill. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Surber. Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Duffield, of the home; one son, William "Gene" E. Surber and wife, Rosemary, Olathe; half-brother, Sam Surber, Las Vegas; two half-sisters, Shirley Lang, Carson City, Nev.; and LaNiece Chamberlain, LaMiranda, Calif.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. today at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Good Samaritan Center or American Diabetes Association.

Ann Suttle
Ann Suttle, 49, Olathe, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at her home. She was born July 3, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo. She lived in Olathe for the last 20 years. She was a 1972 graduate of Kansas Newman College in Wichita, where she received her bachelor of science degree in psychology. She was a partner in the Coldwell Banker Advantage Real Estate Company in Overland Park for the past two years. Prior to that she was with Don Bell Homes and Brittany Properties for 13 years and with Lloyd W. Sleezer and Associates for two years. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the Johnson County Board of Realtors, the Olathe Area Chamber of Commerce, the Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau and its chamber of commerce. She was past president of the Olathe Business and Professional Women, a member of the Kansas Newman College Alumni Association and a member of the sales and marketing council of the Home Builders Association. Survivors include her husband, Ken Suttle, and a son, Mike Suttle, both of the home; two daughters, Lara Suttle of the home and Mary Tobin of Olathe; her parents, Joseph J. and Ada C. Wagovich of Overland, Mo.; a brother, Joe Wagovich of Tennessee; and a grandson, Kyle K. Downs, of the home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

David Swanson
David W. Swanson, 46, of Olathe, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Olathe Medical Center. Mr. Swanson was born Sept. 6, 1954, in Clovis, New Mexico, the son of Walter and Eva D. (VanZandt) Swanson. David is well known as a great sportsman. He attended Eastern New Mexico University, where he met his wife, Kathi. David and his family moved from the state of New Mexico to Olathe in 1988. He was the Owner of Lumpy's Bar and Grill in Olathe, although he previously worked as a supervisor for the Restaurant Management Company. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors include two sons, Shad and Kyle Swanson, of Olathe; mother, Eva Nix; and sister, Jamie Williams, both of Clovis, New Mexico; and brother, Alan Swanson, Jacksonville, Fla. There will not by any funeral services. Friends are invited to attend a gathering 7 p.m., Friday, March 30, at Lumpy's Bar and Grill, 1505 E. 151st St., Olathe, to celebrate a remembrance of his life. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Local arrangements made by W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe.

Judith Swanson
Judith (Judy) K. Swanson, 56, Lake George, Colo., died Sunday, July 2, 2000, after a long illness with lupus. She was born Jan. 28, 1944. She had lived in West Line, Mo., before moving to Colorado several years ago. She was preceded in death by her father, Julius McClellan; a sister, Sue Ann McClellan; and a grandson, Joseph Morris. Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) R. Swanson, of the home; a son, Daniel Martin; four daughters, Nancy Newth, Teresa Morris, Anita Miller and Shelly Castleberry; two stepchildren, David Swanson and Julie Kilpatrick; her mother, Beulah McClellan; five brothers, Gene McClellan, Harold McClellan, Gary McClellan, Larry McClellan and Randy McClellan; two sisters, Carol McClellan and Cheryl Hunley; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A memorial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olathe Hospice.

Margaret Swearingen
Margaret Ethel Swearingen, 90, formerly of Fort Scott resident, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Johnson County Nursing Home in Olathe. She was born Sept. 23, 1910, in Hillsdale, Kan., the daughter of Stanley Green Judd and Judith Maude Johnson Judd. She married Ralph Swearingen in 1929. They farmed in the Hillsdale area, and later divorced. In the late 1960's she and her daughter, Joyce, owned and operated a restaurant in Edgerton. She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gladys Joyce Alexander. Survivors include two sons, Roger L. Swearingen, Olathe, and Raymond J. Swearingen and wife, Barbara, Fort Scott. She is also survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Following cremation, Rev. Jim Stanford of Olathe will conduct graveside services at 1 p.m. Thursday, in the Hillsdale Cemetery at Hillsdale, Kan. Friends and family will meet at the cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Foundation and may be sent to Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. 66701.

Harry Sweetapple
Harry J. Sweetapple, 49, Olathe, formerly of Clintonville, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at his residence following a battle with melanoma. He had lived in Olathe since 1977. He was born Aug. 19, 1950, in Franklin, Pa., to Paul L. and Geraldine Rice Sweetapple. He graduated in June 1968 from Franklin High School. He was married Aug. 28, 1971, to Brenda Blauser. He worked in the Materials Management Division of One System, a division of Farmland Industries. He coached his daughters' soccer teams at Olathe East High School, beginning in 1978, both as head coach and assistant of women's soccer. He coached Premier Soccer, starting in 1988. He most recently was head coach for the Reccos Soccer Club, Olathe, with his daughter, Jackie, as assistant coach. His coaching included many tournament wins, as well as state championships with his daughter's under-19 team in 1992 and 1994. Survivors include his wife, Brenda, of the home; two daughters, Kriston Keith, Haltom City, Texas, and Jackie Sweetapple, Olathe; a sister, Teresa Benson, Overland Park; two brothers, Carl "Rod" Sweetapple, Clintonville, and Shawn Sweetapple, Moscow, Idaho; a granddaughter; two nephews; and a niece. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, Clintonville, Pa. A memorial service will be held later in Olathe, at the family's convenience. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Six Points Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow in the Scrubgrass Church Cemetery, Scrubgrass Township, Venango County. The family requests memorials be made to the local hospice or to the Olathe East High School Girls Soccer Scholarship Fund (established in his memory), payable to the Olathe East District.

Eleanor Swinehart
Eleanor Swinehart, 88, Olathe, died May 15, 2001, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was born Oct. 9, 1912, in Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of the late John and Rose (O'Donnell) Schwartz. She was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James B. Swinehart, and two sisters, Rosella Burchart and Monica Jordan. Survivors include two sons, Jim Swinehart and his wife, Loraine, Olathe; Jerry Swinehart and his wife, Margie, Overland Park; a daughter, Lois Johnson and her husband, Wallace, South Hamilton, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday at McGilley and Hoge Chapel. A prayer service will begin at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa. The family suggests contributions be made to the Catholic Charities or the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in lieu of flowers.
