Brian Buckley
Brian K. Buckley, 29, Ottawa, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in Albert Lea, Minn. He was born Oct. 21, 1970, in Kansas City, Kan. He grew up in Gardner and moved to Virginia Beach in 1997 and to Ottawa in 1998. He graduated from Gardner-Edgerton High School in 1989. For the past two years, he was employed by Transport America, Kansas City, Mo., as a truck driver. He had previously worked for KLLM Trucking of Virginia Beach, and for the Lenexa division of the 7 Up and R.C. Cola Company, as a loader and truck driver. Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Buckley, of the home; his father and mother, John Edward Buckley and Margaret R. Buckley, Ottawa; a stepdaughter, Heather Hankin, Olathe; a brother, Christopher Buckley, Ottawa; and maternal grandparents, Joseph and Ivy Maslak, Shawnee Mission. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Friends may call at the mortuary after 1 p.m. today until the service time Tuesday. The family will meet with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Buckley
James R. Buckley, 54, Olathe, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home. He was born Nov. 9, 1945, in Gardner, Kan., and had lived in Olathe most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was co-owner of B & B Foundations, Olathe, for the past five years, with his brother Gary. He was a member of the Earl Collier Post 153 of the American Legion in Olathe. Survivors include his wife, Glenda Buckley, of the home; a son, Todd Buckley, Topeka; two daughters, Shannon Courtney, Olathe, and Dee McClellen, Parker, Kan.; a stepson, Rick Spiering, Wichita; three stepdaughters, Mindy Mason of Wellsville, Kan., Marsha Jacobs, Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Diana Super, Mission, Kan.; two brothers, Gary Buckley, Blue Springs, Mo., and Dennis Buckley, Paola, Kan.; two sisters, Tabby Cantrell and Marion Wonsetler, both of Paola; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the chapel. Burial will be in the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Anna Buelli
STILWELL - Anna Marie Buelli, 68, Stilwell, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at her home. She was born May 25, 1932, in the Kenneth community of Johnson County. She lived in the area her entire life. She was a 1951 graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Petrus Bleyenberg and Marguerite DuCoulombier. Survivors include two daughters, Angela Buelli and Marina M. Locke, both of Stilwell; and two grandchildren. A private family graveside service will be Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell. William Buford
William Medill Buford, 79, of Olathe died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center. He was born May 25, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of James and Addie Mae (Williams) Buford. He worked as a mechanic for 30 years at Manor Bakery in Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1983. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. and served on the Trustee Board. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Allen Buford; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Thorton and Hestine Parker; one daughter, Marceline Buford; and one stepdaughter, Irene Richardson. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Ora Buford, of the home; two daughters, Dorothy Greer and husband Sam, of Kansas City, Mo., and Helen Walton and husband, Eugene, of Kansas City, Kan.; three stepdaughters, Brenda Simmons and husband, Iley, Kansas City, Mo.; Muriel Anderson and husband Willie, of Kansas City, Mo.; Judith Thompson and husband, James, of Abbesville, S.C.; one niece, Vickie Hankins, of Dale City, Va.; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Olathe. Burial will follow at Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the church.

Bonnie Bundy
Bonnie LaVelle Bundy, 60, died Thursday, Jan. 25, at her home in Grandview, Mo. She was born June 29, 1940, in St. Louis, Mo. She graduated high school in Olathe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Dale Bundy, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Dickey. Survivors include, her beloved partner Wayne Talley of the home; son, Mark Bundy and wife, Shelley, Olathe; Michael Bundy, Charlestown, Ind.; Scott Bundy and wife Lori, Kansas City, Mo.; stepchildren, Richard Talley of Kansas City, Mo.; Corinna Gambetti, Kansas City Mo.; Lori Amber Watts, Martin City, Mo.; sisters, Sandra LaVerne Humble, Kansas City, Mo.; Carolyn Dunn, Olathe; Linda Jenkins, Lee's Summit, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parklawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the First-Christian Church of Olathe. Hazel Burdette
Hazel Rowland Burdette, 95, Olathe, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Olathe. She was born Sept. 28, 1905, in Olathe, where she lived all her life. She was the daughter of Jesse and Alma Riffey. She was an accomplished seamstress most of her life and worked for the Jetmore Factory in Olathe as an embroidery operator for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Olathe. She was preceded in death by both husbands, James Rowland and Burton Burdette; a daughter, Louise Shipman; and a brother, Howard Riffey. Survivors include a daughter, Lois Mahaffie, Grandview, Mo.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe. The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. Lola Burg
Lola Ann "Bonnie" Burg, 73, Olathe, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born May 8, 1927, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Henry J. Hughes and Lola B. (Stevenson) Hughes. She received a bachelor's degree in education in 1949 from Pittsburg State University, and a master's degree in education, specializing in learning disabilities, in 1970 from Chicago State University. She educated grade-school, high-school and learning-disabled students in a career from 1950 to 1987. After retiring, she was a nanny for Allison Gatewood, daughter of Dr. Mary and Matt Gatewood, Overland Park. She also was an active resident of Good Samaritan Towers and a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell F. Burg; two brothers, Robert J. Hughes and James A. Hughes, a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force; and a sister, Barbara L. Krupa. She is survived by three sons, Matthew H. Burg, Elizabethtown, Ky., and Andrew J. Burg and Wendell F. Burg Jr., both of Olathe; a sister Mary Pat Szyman, Cloquet, Minn.; and 11 grandchildren. Vistation will be 7:30 p.m. today at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe. The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Lola Burg at Capitol Federal Savings and Loan.

Helen Burk
Helen Dean Burk, 70, Cross Timbers, Mo., died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at her home. She was born in East St. Louis, Ill., on April 6, 1929, the only child of Floyd and Myrtle Eubanks Carriger. She grew up in Kansas City, Kan., and attended high school there. In 1946, she married Edgar L. Burk Jr. They made their home in Olathe; she owned and managed a restaurant, Charley's Cafe, in Merriam. They later moved to Kansas City, Kan., where she was an agent for State Farm Insurance for several years. In 1982, they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks at Camdenton, Mo., then moved to Cross Timbers in January 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Burk Jr., in 1985; and a son, Richard Burk, in 1992. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Burk, Cross Timbers, and Sharon Hayes, Kansas City, Kan.; a son, Charles Burk, Leavenworth; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. No visitation. The funeral and burial will be 1 p.m. today at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Olathe. Arrangements are by Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw, Mo.

Mary Burke
Mary E. "Bobbie" Burke, 85, Olathe, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Scammon, Kan., and had lived in Olathe the past 54 years. She was supervisor in the Fitting Department of the Hyer Boot Company in Olathe, and retired in 1975 after 25 years of service. She was preceded in death by a son, Neil Allen Smith, in 1984. Survivors include her husband, Walter E. Burke, of the home; two daughters, Allene Jordan, Yorktown, Va., and Peggy J. Rawie, Stanley; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe.

Nettie Burnsworth
Nettie R. Burnsworth, 87, Lenexa, died Aug. 27, 2000, at Delmar Gardens, Lenexa. She was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Nevada, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred S. Burnsworth, on June 2, 1999. Survivors include a daughter, Martha Blankinship, Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Joseph Burton Sr.
Joseph W. "Joe" Burton, Sr., 70, of Lufkin, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his residence. He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., to the late Louvinia Catherine (Fraites) and Walter Earnest Burton. He was a resident of Lufkin for 23 years, and was the retired owner of 3J's Live Bait and Tackle, which he operated for 16 years. He had previously resided in Olathe, where he was a farmer. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife, Joleen May Cade Burton of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Terry Clark of Lufkin; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph W. Burton, Ill.; and Beverly Burton of Lufkin; grand-daughters, Tammy Clark, Shae Burton and Ruthie Clark, all of Lufkin; and grandson, Joseph W. Burton, Ill. Pallbearers will be Robert Massingill, J.R. Ward, Carl Wright, Allen Smith, Terry Pitts and Darrell Pitts. Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Thursday in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel in Lufkin with Bro. Keith Woolf and Pastor Elton Musick officiating. Internment will follow in the Wallace Chapel Cemetery.

Stella Burwell
Stella Frances Burwell, 88, of Spring Hill died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Beverly Health Care, Spring Hill. She was born April 12, 1912, in Climax Springs, Mo., the daughter of Henry William Waldburger and Rhoda Logan Waldburger. She had lived in Spring Hill since 1991. Prior to that, she had lived in Windsor, Mo., Roscoe, Mo., Alabama and El Dorado Springs, Mo. She was employed as the International Shoe Factory, Windsor, Mo., for 17 years. She retired in 1974. She was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Windsor, Mo. She also was a member of the Rebekkahs of Windsor, Mo. She married Freeman Ray Eldridge Sr. in 1927 in Windsor, Mo. He died in 1957. She married James G. Burwell in 1967 in Clinton, Mo. He died in 1990. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Arthur Waldburger. Survivors include two sons, James Daniel Ray Eldridge of Florida and Freeman Ray Eldridge Jr., Spring Hill; two daughters, Elfeda L. Polfer, Spring Hill, and Evelyn Dolores Collins, Marietta, Ga.; three sisters, Edna of Missouri, and Olene and Bessie of California; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, Mo. She will lie in state from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Spring Hill Baptist Church.

George Buser Jr.
George J. Buser Jr., 79, Overland Park, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. He was born Sept. 2, 1920, in Seneca, Kan., the eldest son of George J. and Mary Elizabeth (Karnowski) Buser. After graduation from Sts. Peter and Paul High School, he attended Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo.; Kansas State University; and the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where he received a bachelor's degree in economics, and a juris doctorate. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in the China-Burma-India Theatre. His banking career spanned 50 years, during which he was employed by the National Bank of Seneca; Traders National Bank, Kansas City, Mo.; First National Bank, Independence, Mo.; Plaza State Bank, Des Moines, Iowa; Suburban Bank, Kansas City, Mo.; and Valley View State Bank, Overland Park, where he retired in 1990 as vice president and trust officer. He was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Overland Park, where he served as eucharistic minister, lector and assistant sacristan. He was an honorary life member of Seneca Council No. 1769, Knights of Columbus, and a former member of Earle W. Taylor Post 21, American Legion, Seneca. He was a former president of the Eastern Kansas Estate Planning Council and the Oakshire Homes Association. He also was an instructor at the American Institute of Banking and in the Evening Division of Rockhurst College. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald G. Buser, John F. Buser, Eugene E. Buser and Burton L. Buser. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Brungardt Buser; a son, Michael B. Buser, Overland Park; a daughter, Mary G. Warren, New Orleans, La.; a brother, Al A. Buser, Seneca; three sisters, Sr. Christella Buser, CSJ, Concordia, Kan., Mary B. Morrissey, Aberdeen, Wash., and Judith Lortcher, Hurst, Texas; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Overland Park, followed by the mass of Christian burial. A reception in celebration of his life will be held immediately after in St. Elizabeth's Hall in the church. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Seneca, Kan. The family requests no flowers and suggests memorial contributions to the Benedictine Sisters, Mt. St. Scholastica, 801 S. Eighth St., Atchison, KS 66002, or the Benedictine Fathers, St. Benedict's Abbey, Atchison, KS 66002. Arrangements are by the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa.

Robert Butler
Robert Jackson Butler, 53, of Gardner died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital in Gardner. Services will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to the Bob Butler Benefit, c/o Gardner National Bank. Butler had lived in Belton and later in Shawnee. He was a custom metal worker. He also worked in TV repair in the Merriam and Mission areas and for C.D. Littleton Metal Fab in Shawnee. He served with Johnson County Civil Defense from 1972 to 1980 as a tornado spotter and chaser, earning the Don Woodside Memorial Award. He overcame many obstacles in life after suffering polio at the age of 4. He attended the R.J. Delano Handicapped School in Kansas City, Mo. His father, Burnie J. Butler, and his mother, Barkleyanna Butler, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Gwen Seward Butler, a daughter, Katherine Butler, and a son, Robert B. Butler, all of the home.

Beverly Byerly
Beverly Joann Cocharan Byerly, 65, Great Bend, Kan., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Kinsley, Kan. She was born July 13, 1935, in Butler County, the daughter of Leonard T. Cochran and Cecil Lou Tallman. She graduated from high school in Wichita. She worked for 18 years with Golden Belt Home Health and two years with Elder Care. At Eastside Baptist Church, she was a Sunday school secretary, choir member and served on numerous committees. She also was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Wichita. She married Virgil Lewis Byerly Oct. 1, 1976, in Great Bend. Survivors include her husband, Virgil, Great Bend; one son, Roger Leroy Byerly, Belpre, Kan.; two daughters, Rosalie Arnette Fansler, Olathe, and Vada Kay Davis, Italy Texas.; four brothers, Leonard Cochran Jr., and Bobby Cochran, both of Chanute, Kan., Dale Cochran , Clearwater, Kan., and Ray Cochran, Liberal, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Inez Nurty. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 , at Eastside Baptist Church, Great Bend. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will from noon to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fryberger Mortuary, Great Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Eastside Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Fryberger Mortuary, 2115 Washington, Great Bend, KS 67530.
