Aime Claerhout
Aime A. Claerhout, 78, Olathe, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at his home. He was born March 22, 1922, in Illinois, and had lived in the Olathe area all of his life. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1984 as a carman, after 30 years of service. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe. He was preceded in death by two brothers, a daughter and a grandson. Survivors include his wife, Audrey A. Claerhout, of the home; a son, Gary Claerhout, Spring Hill; three daughters, Dianne Crosby, Sanford, N.C., Susan Claerhout, Olathe, and Karen Price, Belton, Mo.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary service at 5:30 p.m., at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe. The mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. Burial will be at the Jingo Cemetery, LaCygne. Harriett Clark
Harriett "Jannie" Clark, 53, Olathe, died March 29, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Morrilton, Ark., to Harry Don and Wilma (Sutterfield) Clark. She was a 1964 graduate of DeSoto High School and a graduate of Emporia State Teachers College, where she received a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in counseling. She was an elementary counselor for three years at the Sixth-Grade Center at Shull Elementary, Raymore-Peculiar, Mo. From 1969 to 1971, she lived in Cimarron, N.M., then moved to and worked in Newton, Kan., before settling in Olathe in 1997. She was a member of the DeSoto Baptist Church and the Missouri School Teachers Association. Survivors include a sister, Pamela S. Brandt, Olathe; and a niece, Kimberly Megan Brandt, Olathe. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at DeSoto Baptist Church, DeSoto. Burial will be at the DeSoto Cemetery. Katherine Clark
Katherine Ann (Roehrich) Clark, 49, of Overland Park, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 8, 1951, in Kansas City, Mo. She worked for AT&T for 26 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbur C. Roehrich. Survivors include her daughter, Kristy Schlagel and husband, Vince, Olathe; mother, Joan Roehrich, Overland Park; two brothers, Richard Roehrick, Fort Worth, Texas, and Phillip Roehrick, and family, Overland Park; and two sisters, Pamela Zint and family, Newburgh, Ind., and Laura Roehrich, Prairie Village. The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at McGilley and Hoge Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Walter Clark
Walter Lee Clark, 83, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2000, near his home at Summerfield, Kan., in Pawnee County, Neb. He was born Aug. 8, 1917, in Cope, Colo., the son of Henry and Iva (Hitchcock) Clark. He spent his entire life in the Summerfield area where he farmed and raised cattle. He graduated from Summerfield High School in 1935 and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Summerfield. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served his country in several theaters, including Northern France, Rhineland and the Andennes. He received an honorable discharge in October 1945. He married Marie Menninga in November 1945 at the church in Summerfield. She died in 1963. He also was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1998 and a sister, Ruby, who died in infancy. Survivors include a son, Marvin Clark, Olathe; two sisters, Myrtle Orr and Emma Sunderland, both of Marysville, Kan.; a brother, Willis Clark, Vasser, Kan.; three grandchildren; and a stepgrandson. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at the church in Summerfield. Burial will be at the Mission Creek Cemetery near Summerfield. The family suggests memorials to charities of the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Wherry Brothers Mortuary in Pawnee County, Neb.

Betty Clary
Betty L. Clary, 74, Olathe, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center, Olathe. She was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Parsons, Kan., the daughter of Coleman Lee and Mary (Turner) Thrasher. She was a 1944 graduate of Parsons High School and later attended Pittsburg State University. She married Woodrow "Pete" Clary in 1946. Survivors include her husband, Pete Clary, of the home; three sons, Melvin D. Clary, Olathe, Richard L. Clary, Kansas City, Mo., and Robert K. Clary, Spring Hill; a daughter, Cynthia Freund, Edgerton; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Private funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to The Good Samaritan Center, Olathe. Chester Clayton
Chester Clayton, 85, of Wellsville, Kan., died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home in Wellsville. Chester Clayton was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Gardner, Kan., the son of John W. and Cora (Thoms) Clayton. He attended grade school in Edgerton. Chester farmed and worked at the Sunflower Ammunition Plant before working at Delco Battery for 22 years. He retired in February of 1981. On Dec. 14, 1935, Chester married Margaret Louis Harbour, and together they shared 65 years. Louise survives of the home. Chester had been in the Wellsville area all of his life. He was a member of the Wellsville United Methodist Church, the Fit and Fun Club, UAW Local 1021, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Chester enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. He is preceded in death by two brothers, and three sisters. Chester is survived by his wife, of the home; four children, Shirley Phillips, Marvin Clayton and Karen Folks, all of Wellsville; and Linda Klamm, of Edgerton; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2001, also at Wilson's. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Wellsville Cemetery. Lajunta Cleveland
Lajunta Grace Nichols Cleveland, 75, Dyersburg, Tenn., formerly of Olathe, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000 at Jackson Madison County Hospital. She earned an Outstanding Art in Typing pin while in Business College and worked at the Oak Ridge Atomic Facility in 1946 and 1947. Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Myers, Dyersburg; a son, Keith Cleveland, Olathe; two sisters, Chlorice Ramsey, Pearcy, Ark., and Juanita Fleming, Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Robert A. Nichols Jr., Hot Springs, Ark.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Crestview Memorial Park Cemetery, Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Delores Cobb
Delores May Cobb, 66, of Olathe died Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was a native of Kansas. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Bethel, Kan., before moving to Kansas City, Kan. She graduated from Argentine High School in 1953. In 1955, she married Gene Cobb, who was in the Navy, and returned to Kansas to raise their children. They have lived in Olathe since 1969. She was gifted in music and enjoyed playing the piano at home and in church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and needlework. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry Hellwig; mother, Helen Hellwig; a brother, Bruce Hellwig; and a sister, Geraldine Hutchings. Survivors include her husband, Gene Cobb, of the home; three sons, Mark Cobb, Shawnee, Perry Cobb, Olathe, and Shane Cobb, Chicago; a daughter, Charity Morse, Gardner; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home of Olathe. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grandview Assembly of God. The family suggests contributions be made to Cancer Action, a support group for persons with cancer.

Leah Cochran
Leah Rita Cochran, 62, of Tahlequah, Okla., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at Muskogee Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 12, 1937, the daughter of Price and Famie (Botts) Cochran in Independence, Kan., where she grew up and attended school. She lived for many years in Olathe, where she worked at King Radio until she retired due to illness and moved to Tahlequah. She was also a stitcher at one time for the H.D. Lee sewing factory in Cherryville, Kan. She enjoyed the company and friendship of a close circle of friends and was a member of the Highway 51 Lighthouse Church at Tahlequah. She was preceded in death by her father, Price William Cochran, and a brother, Joseph David Cochran. Survivors include her mother, Famie Cochran of Tahlequah; a son, James Douglas Cochran, of Coweta, Okla.; a daughter, Yolanda Starks, Charleston, Tenn.; two sisters, Zelda Mae Gritts and Rosalie Cadwell, both of Tahlequah; a brother, Wendell Cochran, Tahlequah; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Green Country Funeral Home at Tahlequah. Burial will be in the Tahlequah City Cemetery.

Fred Cohu
Fred L. Cohu, 93, of Neosho, Mo., died March 29, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center. The visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the funeral home in Neosho. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, Mo., burial in Diamond Cemetery, Diamond, Mo. He was born Dec. 2, 1907, in Missouri he married Ercel M. Rawlinson on May 5, 1934. They moved to Olathe in 1935. She was a homemaker, he was a self-employed contractor until he retired. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Olathe, until they moved to Neosho, MO., in 1993, where they were members of the First Baptist Church in Neosho. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ercel Cohu on April 20, 1995. Survivors include one brother, Murice Cohu and wife.

Valdie Colburn
Valdie "Val" A. Colburn, 62, Spring Hill, died April 15, 2001, at his home. Mr. Colburn worked as a pipefitter for Bendix/Allied-Signal for 23 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Pipefitters' Union Local No. 533, and a member of the Spring Hill Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jay Colburn and Mitchell Briggs; and a brother, Bill Colburn. He is survived by his wife, Betty Colburn, Spring Hill; five sons, Duain Colburn and Jammie-Lee G. Colburn, both of Lincoln, Neb., Richard Briggs, Lenexa, Michael Briggs, Independence, Mo., and Larry Briggs, Spring Hill; a daughter, Linda Murry, Spring Hill; a brother, George Colburn, Olathe; a sister, Martha Huffman, Spring Hill; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McGilley and Hope Chapel. Eulogy service will be at 7:30 p.m.

Mildred Coleman
Mildred Evon Coleman, 88, Spring Hill, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Spring Hill. She was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Spring Hill, the daughter of Elmer Duffield and Ella Yohe Duffield. She was a lifelong resident of Spring Hill. She married Guy Coleman Nov. 17, 1940. She had worked as a solderer at King Radio in Olathe for 15 years, until she retired in 1979. She was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy, in 1991; two sisters, Martha Wax and Stella Cantrell; and a brother, Everett Duffield. Survivors include a son, Bob Eugene Coleman, Derby, Kan.; a daughter, Virginia Eldridge, Spring Hill; a brother, Paul Duffield, Fair Oaks, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. Maggie Collins
Maggie Lee Collins, 25 of Emporia, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Newman Memorial County Hospital, Emporia. She was born May 21, 1975, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Vincent I. Collins and Brenda C. (Whitacre) Collins. She had lived in Emporia for the past six months, moving there from Ottawa. She also lived in Emporia in 1995 and 1996 and formerly lived in Olathe where she attended grade school. She was a 1994 graduate of Ottawa High School. She was employed by Coffee County Hospital in Waverly as a certified nurses assistant. Survivors include her fiance, Wayne A. Sparks, Emporia; one son, K.C. Lee Sparks, Emporia; one daughter, Selena Renee Sparks, Emporia; her father, Vincent I. Collins, Belton, Mo.; her mother, Brenda C. Collins, Waverly, Kan.; two sisters, Renee Carver, Ottawa, and Kristi Martin, Waverly, Kan.; one brother, Anthony Collins, Belton, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Lois Tilton, Payne, Ore.; and paternal grandfather, George Collins, Rozel, Kan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Ottawa. Marcielle McCroskey Combs, 75, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at her home in Lexington, Ky. She was born May 25, 1924, in Lee County, Ky., the daughter of Mildred and William McCroskey. She was a member of the Beattyville Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Thomas D. Combs; a son, Thomas Combs Jr., Georgetown, Ky.; two daughters, Susann White, Olathe, and Peggy Reeves, Morehead, Ky.; a sister, Margaret Goff, Frankfort, Ky.; a brother, Robert McCroskey, Ashland, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Norma Cook
Norma Jean Cook, 62, Fort Scott, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. She was born, May 2, 1937, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Louis Reginal and Jessie Gladys Runkle Smith. She married Charles Lee Cook, June 12, 1972, in Fort Scott. She attended the First Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Louis Smith. Survivors include her husband, Charlie, of the home; three sons, Reggie Nalley and Rocky Nalley, both of Fort Scott, and Steven Nalley, Olathe; two daughters, Rhonda Noyes, LaCygne, Kan., and Gayla Penland, Alma, Ga.; a sister, JoAnn Spragg, Galena, Mo.; a brother, Fred Smith, Wellsville, Kan.; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Fred Cooper
Fred L. Cooper, 65, Chanute, died Dec. 25, 1999, at the Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas. He was born on July 1, 1934, in Neodasha, Kan., the son of Oliver and Dora (Barlow) Cooper. He was reared and attended public schools in the Neodasha area, but started driving trucks when he was 15. He served in the U.S. Army from his enlistment on Feb. 6, 1953, to his discharge on Feb. 8, 1957, as both a light- and heavy-duty truck driver. He married Patricia L. Baughn on Oct. 9, 1957, in St. Charles, Mo. After the Army, he continued his career as a truck driver. He retired from Amoco Oil in 1995 at Sugar Creek, Mo. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 0048, Garnett. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Cooper Jr. and Charles O. Cooper. Survivors include his wife, Pat, of the home; a son, Marty Cooper, Harrisonville, Mo.; a daughter, Cindy Cooper, Chanute; a brother, Jim Cooper, Independence, Kan.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Star Cemetery in rural Thayer, Kan., with military honors presented by Chanute American Legion Post No. 170. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.

J. Steven Cordell
John Steven (Steve) Cordell, 92, died Jan. 24, 2001, in Seattle. He was born May 3, 1908, in Sedan, Kan., the son of Grace Garrison Cordell and James Steve Cordell. The Cordells moved to Gardner when he was 1 year old. He spent his childhood in Gardner with six brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Gardner High School. He married Mary Young in 1933. They had one son, Michael. They moved to Seattle in 1935, where he worked for pharmaceutical companies and a ferry company. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife and son. Survivors include his grandson, Steven Cordell, and wife, Lisa, and great-grandchildren, Cole and Adrienne, of Seattle; a sister, Pauline Kelly of Lenexa; a brother, James C. Cordell, Houston; and a brother, N.G. Cordell, Gardner. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner.

Manuel Cosme Sr.
Manuel Cosme Sr., 78, Olathe, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at the Olathe Medical Center. Cosme was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Morovis, Puerto Rico, and has lived in Olathe the past 11 years. He lived in New York most of his adult life. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Evette Cosme de Ramirez. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosa Muniz Cosme, of the home; two sons, Manuel Cosme Jr. of Vacaville, Calif., and Milton Cosme of Waterbury, Conn.; one daughter, Enid Grossman of Olathe; nine grandchildren and three great-grandsons. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1600 W. 143rd in Olathe. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe, with a rosary service to begin at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Olathe.

Amy Cosse
Amy Lynn Cosse, 24, Lenexa, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, after battling cancer. She was born May 6, 1976, in Santa Rosa, Calif. At 4, she moved to Kansas. She devoted her life to Christian missions when she was 16, and had traveled to Brazil, Poland and Russia. She married Donny Cosse on Aug. 24, 1996. She became mission coordinator for Kansas City Youth for Christ, until she and her husband moved in January 1999 to Amsterdam, Netherlands, with Youth with a Mission. They also served in India and Nepal. Shortly after their return to Kansas City last summer, she was diagnosed with cancer. Survivors include her husband, Donny Cosse, of the home; her mother and stepfather, Deanna and Arnie Hodson, Olathe; her father and stepmother, David and Lori Woodruff, Omak, Wash.; a half-brother, Andrew Woodruff; a half-sister, Aletha Woodruff; a stepbrother, Ryan Hodson; a stepsister, Rene Hodson; and her grandparents, Darrel and Evelyn Goss, Likely, Calif.; and Marion and Edith Woodruff, Falls City, Ore. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Amos Funeral Home, Lenexa. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Michael Coulter
Michael "Jr." Coulter, 33, Pomona, KS, died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. He was born in Merriam, and had lived in Olathe, Gardner and Ottawa before moving to Pomona six months ago. He was a 1985 graduate of Olathe South High School. He was a construction worker and also worked at the Pomona Ready Mix Batch Plant in Pomona. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Floyd and Jewel Robbins, and his paternal grandfather, Jack W. Coulter. Survivors include his parents, Bill Coulter, and stepmother, Connie Coulter, Spring Hill; his mother, Sharon Coulter, Olathe; his sons, Billy Jack Coulter and Jesse Allen Coulter, Warrensburg, Mo.; a sister, Kimberly Mullins, Omaha, Neb.; and his paternal grandmother, Wilma F. Coulter, Hannibal, Mo. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Burial will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Association or to an education fund for his sons.

Thelma Courtois
Thelma Louise Courtois, 87, Pleasanton, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at Crystal Care Center in Mound City. She was born Sept. 4, 1913, at Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of James and Grace (Taylor) Courtois. She never married. She was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" Courtois; and two sisters, Anna O'Dell and Bettie Whinery. Survivors include two brothers, Charles "Chuck" Courtois, Pleasanton, and Floyd Courtois, Olathe; a sister-in-law, Mildred Courtois; nephews and nieces; and great-nephews and great-nieces. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Pleasanton Cemetery, Pleasanton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crystal Care Activity Fund. Arrangements are by the Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City.

Donald Cox
Donald Gene "Toby" Cox, 49, of Sherman Oaks, Calif., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the home of his father in Lawrence. He had been living with his father the past several months after being diagnosed with cancer. He was born Jan. 4, 1951, in Paola, the son of Vearl LaVern and Dorothy Helen Rodgers Cox. He grew up in DeSoto and Topeka. He attended grade school in DeSoto and Highland Park High School in Topeka. He then attended the University of Missouri in Kansas City where he studied drama. He acted in Topeka and Kansas City in dinner theaters. He performed at the Waldo Astoria and Tiffany's Attic in Kansas City. He then toured and performed throughout the world for several years. He had made his home in California for the past 25 years. Soon after moving to California, he became a designer for Angel City Designs in Beverly Hills, Calif. His work was helping to design parties for movie premieres, super bowl entertainment, inaugural events and other entertainment functions. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Judy. Survivors include his father, Vearl Cox, of Lawrence; his brother, Larry Cox, Olathe, two nephews, Mark Cox of Pace, Fla., and Bryan Cox of Castle Rock, Colo.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. today at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, Osawatomie, with the Rev. Alan Tilson officiating. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials are to the Douglas County Hospice at 200 Maine, Suite D in Lawrence, KS 66044 or to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret Cox
Margaret Walters Cox, 74, Rantoul, formerly of Spring Hill, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center. She was born March 25, 1926, in Spring Hill, to LeRoy W. and Ethel M. Wilson Walters. She was reared in Spring Hill and was a 1944 graduate of Spring Hill High School. She married Thurston Steven Cox Nov. 18, 1961, in Miami, Okla. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Rantoul, Kan., where they made their home. She worked for Western Electric in Lee's Summit, Mo., for 20 years before retiring in 1981. After her husband's death Nov. 28, 1991, she had remained on the farm with assistance from her children. She was a member of the Eagles in Paola and the Pioneers in Lee's Summit. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; and a sister, Charlotte. Survivors include a son, Allen Eastland, Lawrence; a daughter, Sandra Whitehead, Edgerton; three stepsons; three stepdaughters; a brother, Kenneth Walters, Enid, Okla.; four sisters, Doris Arnold, Ottawa, Kan., Harriet Askew, Citrus Heights, Calif., and Jeanette Locke and Ethel Auclair, both of Enid, Okla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at her residence. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, c/o Wilson and Son Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola, KS 66071.
