Woodrow 'Woody' Conrad
Woodrow "Woody" Conrad, 68, died Dec. 24, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital, Hutchinson. Madena T. Chittenden
She was born May 7, 1912, at Jetmore, the daughter of Clifford Ray and Madena Jane Leighton Hoagland. A 65-year-resident of Hays, she moved to Colorado in 2001. She attended Fort Hays State University, and served as state secretary of the Republican Party of Kansas in the 1950s. She worked at The Hays Daily News and Hays Travel Agency. She belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. In June 1932 she married Herbert H. Chittenden at Hays. He died in June 1965. Survivors include: three daughters, Jane Seeman, Vienna, Va., Susan Wittwer, Colorado Springs, and Pamela Birchfield, Prairie Village; three sisters, Lavone French, Tulsa, Okla., Juanita Weedman, Houston, and Marchetta Rassmussen, Montrose, Colo.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Hoagland; a half brother, Ted Gumble; and a sister, Marguerite Johannes. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cline's Mortuary, Hays,
with the Rev. Bill Miller presiding. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m.

She was born May 5, 1916, at Lyons, the daughter of Hiram and Kate Tobias Cherpitel. A resident of Lyons since 1973, formerly of Saratoga, Wyo., she was a homemaker. On Dec. 25, 1938, she married Selz Burton in Okla. He died in 1972. Survivors include: a brother, Wray Cherpitel, Lyons; a sister, Mary Harrison, Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: a sister, Ruth Burroughs. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sillin Funeral Home,
Lyons. Friends may visit from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial

He was born Feb. 8, 1954, at Wichita, the son of Lawrence and Donna Rooney Oakes. A 1972 graduate of Scott Community High School, he was a self-employed contractor. He belonged to AMBUCS, Dodge City. Survivors include: his father, Dodge City; a son, Joshua, Dodge City; a sister, Vicky Armstrong, Dodge City; a stepmother, Evelyn, Dodge City; and a stepfather, Lloyd Short, Muskogee, Okla. She was born Dec. 14, 1916, at Gibbon, Okla., the daughter of Thomas and Annie Gallagher Kenny. A Kingman resident since 1956, she was a homemaker. She belonged to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Society, all at Kingman. On Jan. 19, 1937, she married Conrad Koehler Sr. at Manchester, Okla. He died in September 1962. Survivors include four sons, Raymond, Bucklin, Roger, McPherson, Conrad Jr., Great Bend, and Tim, Kingman; three daughters, Karen Tatro, Hutchinson, Linda Batchman, Bushton, and Kathy Dark, Attica; three brothers, Ed, Medford, Okla., Joe, Pueblo, Colo., and Gerry, Davis, Calif.; a sister, Irene Cummings, Enid, Okla.; 34 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Walsh; four brothers, Tom, John, Bernard and Phillip; and two sisters, Mary Peterson and Katherine Koehler. Parish and Daughters of Isabella rosaries will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Livingston Funeral Home, Kingman. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kingman, with Father Joseph Tatro presiding. Friends may call after 12 noon on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Kingman. Memorials may be sent to the Attica Longterm Care Center or to St. Patrick's Grade School, both in care of Livingston Funeral Home. |
