DODGE CITY - Lester Karl Bagby, 86, died Jan. 13, 2001, at Trinity Manor, Dodge City.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.

Virginia M. Holmes
HOLYROOD - Virginia M. Holmes, 77, died Jan. 12, 2001, near Chapman on I-70, as the result of injuries sustained in a tractor-trailer and car collision.
She was born Nov. 22, 1923, at Lyons, the daughter of Walter and Mary Motter. A Holyrood resident since 1946, moving from Hutchinson, she was a homemaker and cook at the Holyrood schools.
She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul's United Church of Christ, both at Holyrood.
On April 25, 1941, she married Harold D. Holmes at Kingman. He died Aug. 16, 1973.
Survivors include: two sons, Gary D., Stafford, and Charles D., Topeka; two daughters, Barbara J. Shelton, Foster City, Calif., and Margaret Ann Jones, Holyrood; a brother, Leonard Motter, Washington; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Holyrood, with Pastors Mary Lou Klein and Jack Sweany presiding. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth; the casket will remain closed. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Great Bend.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the Great Bend Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.

Cornelia C. Matthews
KINSLEY - Cornelia C. Matthews, 92, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Medicalodge, Kinsley.
She was born Nov. 10, 1908, at Charleston, Ark., the daughter of Andrew and Katherine Kilhoffer Mahl. A longtime Kinsley resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley.
In Febuary 1926, she married Theodore Kamphaus at Chanute, Okla. He died Jan. 13, 1963. In 1949, she married Horace Matthews at Miami, Okla. He died in 1981.
Survivors include: two sons, George Kamphaus, Norman, Okla., and Arnold Kamphaus, Kinsley; a daughter, LaRue Robinson, Garden City; six sisters; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and two grandchildren.
Vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Kinsley. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Father Pius Tacaw presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to Southwind Hospice or the St. Nicholas School Endowment Fund, both in care of the funeral home.

Esther Agnes Fanestil
EMPORIA - Esther Agnes Fanestil, 100, died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Presbyterian Manor, Emporia.
She was born April 14, 1900, at Little River, the daughter of John Lincoln and Mary Frances Wood Fail. She had been a resident of Emporia since 1943, formerly of Hutchinson and Hoisington. She was a homemaker and graduate of Little River High School.
On Nov. 11, 1923, she married Carl Leonard Fanestil at Little River. He died April 28, 1974.
Private graveside services will be held in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Carlson Funeral Home, Em-poria, is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Margaret McCormac
ASHLAND - Thelma Mar-garet McCormac, 87, died Jan. 12, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
She was born Nov. 13, 1913, at Houston, Mo., the daughter of Otto and Clara Raper Stenger. An Ashland resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Workers' Council and Women's Mission-ary Society, and the Town and Country Social Club, all at Ashland.
On Aug. 26, 1930, she married Max Ellsworth McCormac at Meade. He died April 17, 1983.
Survivors include: a son, William Max, Pueblo, Colo.; a daughter, Margaret Ann Hulstine, Wichita; a sister, Mary Butts, Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Estella "Maxine" Farrell; three brothers, Walter, Andrew and Ted Stenger; and a sister, Edna Davis.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Ashland, with Minister Keith Sanderson presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Myatt Funeral Home, Ashland. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ashland.
Memorials may be sent to the Workers' Council of First Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.

Leola Elverta 'Bertie' Kufeld
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Leola Elverta "Bertie" Kufeld, 93, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Columbine West Nursing Home, Fort Collins, Colo.
She was born Nov. 26, 1907, at Abilene, the daughter of Emanuel Edward and Sadie Engle Wagaman. A Great Bend resident for 85 years before moving to Fort Collins, she was an artist.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend, and PEO Chapter GS, Fort Collins, Colo.
On June 8, 1929, she married Roland Kufeld at Great Bend. He died Sept. 1, 1978.
Survivors include: a son, Roland C. "Ron," Fort Collins; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen B.; and a sister, Evelyn Ringer.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bryant-Chris-tians Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the Rev. Jana Baxter presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Melba A. Hollister
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Melba A. Hollister, 85, died Jan. 10, 2001, at Colorado Springs.
She was born Jan. 26, 1915, at Stafford County, the daughter of Martin and Mattie May Gates Tucker. She had been a Colorado Springs resident since 1941, formerly of Stafford County.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Shrine of Rememberance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses, Colorado Springs.
Shrine of Rememberance, Colorado Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Dean Fischer
TOPEKA - Wayne Dean Fischer, 73, died Jan. 12, 2001, at his home in Topeka.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend.

Donald Doyle Harper
Donald Doyle Harper, 54, died Jan. 13, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1946, at Great Bend, the son of the late Doyle and Mary Dinkel Harper. An Inman resident for the past 14 years, formerly of Hutchinson, he was a graduate of Ness City High School and Emporia State University, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He was a psychologist for USD 308.
He was a member of NASP and KASP.
On Aug. 6, 1982, he married Shelley Gaines at Peabody. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Zachary D. and Benjamin M. Harper, both of the home; and a sister, Arlene Moll, Hutchinson.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson, with Pastor Thomas Menden-hall presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Cremation will follow the service.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

Lewis 'Mac' McFadden
NICKERSON - Lewis "Mac" McFadden, 76, died Jan. 13, 2001, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutch-inson.
He was born June 24, 1924, at Yates Center, the son of George and Hazel Medearis McFadden. A longtime Nick-erson resident, he worked as a foreman for KDOT of Rice County for 43 years.
On April 2, 1953, he married Helen DeWald at Cottonwood Falls. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Terry Withrow, Goose Creek, S.C., and Michael, McPherson; a brother, Bill, Hutchinson; two sisters, Jean Cruce, Vasser, and Lois Butcher, Cottonwood Falls; and four grandchildren.
Memorial graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Wildmead Cemetery, Nickerson. Friends may sign the book from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home, Hutchinson. Cremation took place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Nickerson Emergency Services, in care of the funeral home.

Gladys S. Iserman
KINSLEY - Gladys S. Iserman, 97, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born July 1, 1903, at Valley Falls, the daughter of W.H. and Grace I. White Stalons. A longtime Kinsley resident, she was a dental office manager.
She belonged to Congre-gational United Church of Christ, Kinsley.
On Sept. 24, 1923, she married Eugene W. Iserman at Topeka. He died Aug. 1, 1981.
Survivors include: two sons, Eugene W., Houston, and F. Clayton, Las Cruces, N.M.; a daughter, Sally Bidleman, Kinsley; a sister, Ruth Barnes, Olathe; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Congre-gational United Church of Christ, Kinsley, with the Rev. Sara Davis Blodgett presiding. Burial took place Jan. 13, 2001, in Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the Edwards County Healthcare Founda-tion, both in care of McKillip Funeral Home, Kinsley.

Jennie Belle Frazier
TURON - Jennie Belle Frazier, 91, died Jan. 12, 2001, at Fayetteville, Ark.
She was born May 11, 1909, at Turon, the daughter of Joseph George and Rhoda May Garman Schwab. A resident of Springdale, Ark., formerly of Hawthorne, Calif., and Partridge, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to World Wide Church of God, Fayetteville, Ark.
Survivors include: three brothers, Merle Schwab, Hutchinson, Leo Schwab, Homedale, Idaho, and George Schwab, Arlington; and a sister, Clara Naomi Schwab, Springdale, Ark.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Reuben and John Schwab; and three sisters, Hazel Crum, Ruth McQueen and Pearl Barnett.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sego Cemetery, Partridge, with Pastor Harvey Dority presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Larrison Funeral Home, Turon.

Phoebe S. Fairchild
McPHERSON - Phoebe S. Fairchild, 81, died Jan. 13, 2001, at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson.

MILA-NO, Texas - Mr. Shannon Trae Alston, 29, of Rock-dale, Texas, died Tues-day, Dec. 26, 2000, near Milano, as the result of a traffic accident. He was born Feb. 19, 1971, in Bryan, Texas, to Fred and Leah Alston. Shannon moved with his family in 1981 to Hutchinson from Hereford, Texas.
He married Tracy Sessom on March 22, 1997, in Lewisville, Texas. He currently resided in Rockdale, Texas.
He graduated from Buhler High School in May 1989 and received his B.S. degree from Texas A&M University, master's from Tarleton State and was studying toward a PhD at Texas A&M University. He was employed as an argonomic research manager with Monsanto.
Texas A&M will honor Shannon on Feb. 6 with a Silver Taps Ceremony on campus.
Survivors include his wife, Tracy Sessom Alston of Rockdale and 2-year-old daughter Riley Jade.
Other survivors are parents, Fred and Leah Alston of Hutchinson and sister and her family, Lori Slack and husband Darin and children, Emma and Estin of Oakley, Kansas.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 29, in Rockdale, with Richard Foster , Eastwood Church of Christ, presiding. Graveside Sat., Dec. 30, in Upper Turtle Creek Cemetery near Kerrville.
Memorials may be made to Riley Alston College Fund, c/o Rockdale Federal Credit Union, 1525 W. Cameron, Rockdale, Texas 76567.

Jessie G. Duncan
Jessie G. Duncan, 94, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Hospice Residential Care Center, Hutchinson.
She was born April 15, 1906, at Platte, S.D., the daughter of Charles Nicholas and Nellie Marietta Doty Richards. A Hutchinson resident since 1973, she was a retired high school English teacher and secretary/librarian at high schools in Miller, Hamilton, Sublette and Overbrook.
She belonged to Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, Faith United Methodist Women, the Esther Interest Group, Faith Quilters, Sunshine Circle, the Hutchinson Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and helped with the church library and the UMW reading program.
On Sept. 1, 1928, she married Ralph L. Duncan of Penalosa. He died Jan. 15, 1976.
Survivors include: a son, Richard L., Sublette; a daughter, Mary Beth Humphreys, Hutchinson; a brother, Earl Richards, Hayward, Wis.; a sister, Nellie Cliff, Burlington, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and five sisters.
Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Faith United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Brent Clayton presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Hutchinson, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Laredo Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the church in care of the funeral home.
