Service was May 26 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, Hillsboro, with Pastor Dave Plett officiating. Burial was at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren cemetery.

Norma J. Wright, 81, of Elk City, formerly of Valley Center, died May 18, 2003, in Independence. She was a retired secretary for Ratner law firm of Wichita. Service was May 24 at Elk City Christian Church. Burial was at Oak Hill cemetery, Elk City.

Oda Lee Capps, 90, of Wichita, mother of Sharon Trax of Valley Center, died May 24, 2003. She was a retired Boeing Aircraft employee. Service was May 27 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita.

Harley Ulbrich

Harley Lyle Ulbrich of Tulsa, Okla., 80, brother of Sarah Hawkins, John Ulbrich and Robert Ulbrich Jr., all of Valley Center, died May 13, 2003. Service was Monday at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Tulsa. Graveside service was at Girard East cemetery in Girard, Kan.

Phyllis K. Hedrick Justis, 77, of Wichita, retired P.G. Investment Co. property manager, died May 19, 2003. Service was May 21 at Asbury Church, Wichita. Private family graveside service was held.

Charles Herbert “Charlie” Jardine, 75, of Park City, Korean War veteran and avid golfer, died May 15, 2004. Service is at 10 a.m. today (Thursday) at Central Christian Church, Wichita. Graveside service is at 4 p.m. at Mt. Hope cemetery, Independence.

Cleo Jackson, 81, of Wichita, father of Steve Jackson of Valley Center, died May 13, 2004. He was a retired accountant. Service was May 18 at Messiah Baptist Church, Wichita.

Edward Ortiz Sr., 53, of Wichita, companion of Lori Petersen of Valley Center, died May 15, 2004. He was a former Boeing capacity planner, Maize High School employee and professional musician and artist. Service was May 18 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

Ethel Ella Patterson, 97, of Furley, died May 13, 2004. Service was May 17 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater. Burial was at Green Valley cemetery, Furley.

H. Elaine Kerr Walker, 68, of Wichita, mother of Keith Walker of Kechi and sister of Paul Kerr of Park City, died May 11, 2004. Service was May 15 at Kechi cemetery.

John Richard “Dick” Moore, 86, of Clay Center, father and father-in-law of Rev. Carol and Cecil Ramey and grandfather of Lisa and Brad Diehl, all of Valley Center, died May 14, 2004. Burial was May 18 at Linn City cemetery and service was at Linn United Methodist Church, Linn.

Pauline Erikson

Pauline M. Radtke Erikson, 81, of Valley Center, administrative assistant at Macy’s & Tymeshare, died May 18, 2004. Visitation is from 6 to 8 tonight (Thursday) at Baker Funeral Home. Graveside service is at 5 p.m. Friday at Englewood cemetery, Englewood.

Ruth Dick

Ruth Lawrence Dick, 90, of Newton, former teacher and librarian in the Valley Center and Newton area, died May 7, 2004. Her ashes were interred at a private service at Greenwood cemetery, Newton. A memorial service is at 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at First Mennonite Church, Newton.

Chris Conway

Chris M. Conway, 31, of Mulvane, son of Mary “Mickey” Conway and brother of Brian Conway, both of Valley Center, died May 12, 2003. He worked for a labor union, where he removed asbestos. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today (Thursday), and service is at 2 p.m. Friday, both at Senter-Smith Mortuary, Mulvane.

Frances Lewis

Frances Myrtle Allison Lewis, 101, of Valley Center, retired teacher, died May 10, 2003.

Judy Brundage

Judy Ann Brundage, 58, of Argonia, mother and mother-in-law of Holly Kristine and J’Sun Mock and grandmother of Lee Alan Mock, Andrew Mock and Brookelynn Mock, all of Park City, died May 6, 2003. She was a U.S. Government assistant postmaster replacement. Service was May 9 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wellington.

Luther Stanley

Luther E. Stanley, 77, of Valley Center, retired Boeing electrical planner and farmer, died May 7, 2003. Service was May 10 at First United Methodist Church, Valley Center. Burial was at Kechi cemetery, Kechi.

Marine Sheldon Kohl, 43, retired farmer, died May 11, 2003, of complications due to drowning. Memorial service at Kechi United Methodist Church, Kechi, and gravside service was at Kechi cemetery, both May 14.

She was the former co-owner of L&W Sundries in Halstead and a baker for Halstead Hospital. Service was May 14 at First United Methodist Church, Halstead, with Rev. James Bush officiating. Burial was at Halstead cemetery, Halstead.

Dennis C. Farrell, 85, of Rossville, father of Dennis Farrell of Valley Center, died May 6, 2003. He was a farmer. He will lie in state after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, and rosary is at 7:30 p.m. today. Service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys. Burial will be at St. Bernard’s Catholic cemetery, Wamego.

Margaret “Peggy” Lemcke, 68, of Derby, mother of Jacklyn Newcomer of Valley Center, died May 2, 2003. She was a Harry Street School office clerk. Service was May 5 at Watson Funeral Home Garden Chapel.

Stuart Shepard

Stuart L. Shepard, 71, of Valley Center, retired King Van Lines claims manager, died May 1, 2003. Rosary was May 4 and memorial service was May 5, both at St. Jude Catholic Church.
