Peggy Moser

OSAGE CITY -- Peggy Moser, 76, Osage City, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at at Osage City nursing home.

Mrs. Moser was a beauty consultant at J.C. Penney.

She was born Nov. 9, 1924, at Bruce Rock, Australia, the daughter of John William and Elizabeth Veronica Lyons Iles. She was raised in Australia and served a three-year apprenticeship with a French dressmaker. She graduated from the Revlon School of Beauty. She moved to the United States in 1952 and became a naturalized citizen in 1968. She had lived in Sioux City, Iowa, St. Louis, Hutchinson, Lawrence and Topeka.

Mrs. Moser was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Topeka, and the church altar society. She was a volunteer at Stormont-Vail HealthCare.

She married Frank Moser on March 25, 1944, in Perth, Australia. He survives.

Survivors also include two daughters, Raeleen Neal, Houston, and Sally Brown, Topeka; a son, Wayne Moser, Menomonie,Wis.; a sister, Terese Camilleri, Perth, Western Australia; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Osage City. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Osage City. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Crable Funeral Chapel, Osage City, is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, Box 1427, Topeka, Kan., 66601.

Teddy Noble

ALMA -- Teddy Noble, 68, Alma, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at a Topeka hospice.

Mr. Noble was raised on a farm and worked various jobs before entering the Air Force in 1952. He served a tour in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971 and was an electronics technician working on radar installations. He switched from the Air Force to the Army where he retired in 1973. After his retirement, he worked as an electrician.

He was born July 15, 1932, in Wichita, the son of George and Ethel Hughes Noble. He attended schools in Hamilton. He also attended college for one year.

He married Clara R. McHaley on Dec. 25, 1952, in Iola. She survives.

Other survivors include one daughter, Cindy Zeckser, Alma; two sons, Tod Noble, Emporia, and Chris Noble, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Mary Lou Strunk, Gas City, and Donna Rourk, Iola; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stewart Funeral Home in Alma. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time where family will greet friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran School or to Midland Hospice House of Topeka and sent in care of the funeral home.

Michael Price

EMPORIA -- Michael W. Price, 45, Emporia, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at an Emporia hospital.

Mr. Price was employed as a heating and air-conditioning sales representative for Young's Heating and Plumbing in Topeka.

He was born Jan. 28, 1955, in Emporia, the son of Lloyd Wylie and Jeannette L. Brandt Price.

Mr. Price was a member of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Emporia. He graduated from Emporia High School and had attended The University of Kansas. Besides Emporia, Mr. Price also had lived in Topeka and Valley Center.

He married Brenda K. Harlan on Oct. 7, 1978, in Emporia. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Dru Price, on Aug. 3, 1990.

Survivors include a son, Dane Wylie Price of the home; his parents, L. Wylie and Jeannette Price, Emporia; three sisters, Maria Fillmore, Lenexa, Mary Quick, Emporia, and Melissa Werts, Bentonville; and his grandmother, Mary V. Price, Emporia.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Emporia. Cremation will follow with private family inurnment services at a later date. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dane Wylie Price College Education Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.

Ruth Russell

HORTON -- Ruth Charlotte Russell, 90, Horton, formerly of Ponca City, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at a Horton hospital.

Mrs. Russell was a homemaker.

She was born Nov. 15, 1910, in Jefferson, the daughter of Charles Emmett and DeLilah Belle Davidson Wheeler.

Mrs. Russell was a member of the First Christian Church in Ponca City.

She married Raymond C. Russell in February 1937 at Ponca City. He died in 1977.

Survivors include a stepson, Larry Allen Russell, Denver; two sisters, Hazel Meerpohl and Mae Smith, both of Horton; a brother, Walter "Pete" Wheeler, Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Ponca City. Friends may visit at Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton.

The family suggests memorials to Tri-County Manor, sent in care of Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, 909 Central Ave., Horton, Kan., 66439.

Robert Wellington

OTTAWA -- Robert B. Wellington, 78, Ottawa, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.

Mr. Wellington worked for the Harris Newspaper Group in Chanute as a reporter for two years before moving to Hutchinson in September 1948. He worked there as a reporter and later as Sunday and night editor for the Hutchinson News before moving to Ottawa in 1957. He was editor of the Ottawa Herald and later became the editor and publisher in 1961 until his retirement in 1987 after 30 years.

He was born Aug. 14, 1922, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of C.G. "Pete" and Gladys Flavia Hazlett Wellington. He grew up in Kansas City and attended Bryant Grade School and graduated from Southwest High School in 1939. He attended Kansas City Junior College for two years, then graduated from The University of Kansas in 1944 with a degree in history and political science.

He entered the Navy in September 1943 during World War II and attained the rank of lieutenant. He served in seven battles in the South and Central Pacific aboard the USS President Adams. He received his discharge from the Navy in June 1946.

Mr. Wellington formerly served as chairman of the Kansas Press Association and had served as president of the William Allen White Foundation from 1985 to 1986. He also was a former member of the Associated Press Managing Editors and the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

Mr. Wellington was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa. He also served in numerous communities and civic organizations, including 12 years on the Ransom Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees from 1964 to 1976. He was the current chairman of the Ransom Memorial Hospital Charitable Association. He also had formerly served on the Board of Trustees for the Science Pioneers in Kansas City, Mo.

He married Dorothy Anne Watts on Sept. 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives.

Other survivors include four sons, Thomas L. Wellington, Ottawa, J. Patrick Wellington, Farmers Ranch, Texas, David R. Wellington, Edmond, Okla., and James P. Wellington, Wellington; a brother, John R. Wellington, Belton, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. Wellington was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace Episcopal Church in Ottawa. The family will receive friends from 10:15 a.m. until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ransom Memorial Hospital Charitable Association or to Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Fund of Ottawa and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa.

Leland Barker

Leland Addison Barker, 73, Topeka, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at a Topeka hospital.

Mr. Barker was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a World War II veteran.

He was born April 3, 1927, in Pratt, the son of G. C. and Suzanna Beckett Barker.

He married Norma D. Adkins on Aug. 3, 1953, at Longview, Texas. She survives, of the home.

Survivors also include a son, Challan A. Barker, Lecompton; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dean Cemetery near Pamona in Franklin County. Mr. Barker will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association, 5375 S.W. 7th, Topeka, 66606.

Bessie Erdman

JANESVILLE, Iowa -- Bessie M. Erdman, 89, Janesville, Iowa, formerly of Topeka, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at a Waverly, Iowa, nursing home.

She had been the owner and operator of a tailoring business in Topeka for many years.

She was born Aug. 23, 1911, in Sallisaw, Okla., the daughter of Charlie L. and Marybelle S. Sells Ridge.

Survivors include three daughters, Dixie Link, Stillwell, Okla., Shirley Hiller, Janesville, and Sondra Gross, Topeka; a sister, Helen Ross, Topeka; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Services, Waterloo, Iowa, and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka.

Veda Lewis

Veda Elaine Lewis, 81, Topeka, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at a Topeka nursing home.

Mrs. Lewis taught for one year in a country school in the Alta Vista area, and she worked for the Victory Life Insurance Co. from 1952 until she retired in 1985.

She was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Eskridge, the daughter of Jess Samuel and Clara Linus Castle. She graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1940 and lived most of her life in Alta Vista and Topeka.

She married Carl William Lewis on May 29, 1941, at Fort Scott. He died July 16, 1974.

Survivors include two sisters, her twin, Vera Deever, Topeka; and Thelma Wahl, Kennewick, Wash.; and a brother, Robert S. Fry, Eskridge.

Private family services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Crable Funeral Home in Eskridge. Burial will be in the Eskridge Cemetery in Eskridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to Stormont-Vail Hospice Program or to Sterling House Assisted Living Program and sent in care of the funeral home.

Charles Sheetz III

Charles Jay Sheetz III, 59, Topeka, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Sheetz had worked in the child care units at the Menninger Clinic for several years. He currently was working for the Kansas Turnpike Authority. He also was a former director for the Shawnee County Youth Center. He was a Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve veteran.

He was born July 9, 1941, in Topeka, the son of Charles J. and Doris Shuberg Sheetz. He was graduated from Topeka High School in 1959 and from Washburn University in 1965. He earned a master's degree in speech and human resources from The University of Kansas in 1967.

Mr. Sheetz served on the board of T.A.R.C. and was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 AF&AM and the Topeka Chapter Ducks Unlimited.

He married Linda Wilds in 1962. They were divorced. He married Rose Brenner in 1981. She survives.

Survivors also include his mother, Doris Sheetz, Topeka; three sons, Michael C. Sheetz and C. Samuel Sheetz, both of Topeka, and Peter D. Sheetz, Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Doris Jean Ireland, Topeka; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles J. Sheetz IV.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where visitation will follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mr. Sheetz will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mildred Siegenthaler

Mildred E. Siegenthaler, 83, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at a Topeka care facility.

Mrs. Siegenthaler was a poet and worked with children.

She was born May 18, 1917, in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of William H. and Mary Fisher Howard. She graduated from Ferndale High School in Johnstown and lived there until 1938. She moved to Topeka in 1992 from Canton, Ohio.

Mrs. Siegenthaler was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Canton, Ohio, for 54 years and of First Church of Topeka since 1992. She taught Sunday school for 56 years and received a Distinguished Service Award for outstanding lay leadership in 1986. She served on many church boards in Canton and on the Women's Ministry Council and Missionary Council.

She married Russell Siegenthaler on Nov. 7, 1936. He died March 27, 2000. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, Howard Siegenthaler, in 1938.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane L. Koker, Topeka; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Siegenthaler will lie in state after 9 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to First Church of the Nazarene, 1001 S.W. Buchanan, Topeka, 66604.

Tahmeer Tilghman

Tahmeer DeChance Tilghman, 2, Topeka, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at a Kansas City, Mo., hospital.

He was born Sept. 22, 1998, in Philadelphia, the son of Lakiysha N. Tilghman. He moved to Topeka with his mother to live with his grandmother in late June. He attended North YMCA Child Care Center.

He was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He had heart surgery at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia. He then had surgery at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include his mother, Lakiysha N. Tilghman, Topeka; a grandfather, Kyle G. Johnson, Topeka; and his grandmother, Marguerite Tilghman, Topeka.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Philadelphia.

Memorial contributions may made in Tahmeer's name and sent in care of Commerce Bank and Trust in Topeka.
