COLUMBUS - Rena L. Heistand, 45, of Columbus, died at 4:36 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003.
Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Columbus.

Marguerite E. (Gillett) Hulsey

CARTHAGE, Mo. - Marguerite E. (Gillett) Hulsey, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Carthage Nursing and Rehab Center, Carthage, Mo.

She was born Jan. 6,1916, at St. David, Ariz., to Ola E. and Minnie Gillett.

She graduated from Glendale High School in 1933 and went to nurse's training at Bethany Hospital in Chicago, where she became a licensed practical nurse.

Mrs. Hulsey worked as an LPN at Jane Chinn Hospital, Webb City, Mo., and St. John's Regional Medical Center at Joplin, Mo., for many years. In 1959, she received her bachelor's degree in education from Pittsburg State University. She taught home economics in Jasper and Lamar, Mo., while pursuing a master's degree in art education. She then taught art at Carl Junction, Mo., until her retirement in 1978.

She was a former member of the Missouri Teachers Association, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Joplin. She served as Sunday school teacher and youth leader for many years at the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. She was also a volunteer at Freeman Hospital for several years.

On June 16, 1939, she married Richard K. Hulsey in Carthage. He preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1978.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald R. Hulsey of Carthage, and Jack N. Hulsey of Pittsburg; one daughter, Sharon Koch of Neosho; one sister, Mary Moore of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, with burial in the Pleasant Hill First United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carl Junction. Visitation hours are from 2- 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edith Lyness

WALNUT - Edith Lyness, 93, of Walnut, a retired longtime Parsons teacher, died at her home Thursday, Jan. 9, 2004. He death was unexpected.

She was born Dec. 1, 1910, at rural Walnut, to John J. and Alma (McDonald) Lyness. She grew up in the rural Walnut area and graduated from Walnut High School. Following graduation, she taught a few years at rural schools. She attended Pittsburg State University before transferring to Kansas State University, where she earned a degree in music education.

Ms. Lyness taught two years at Wakefield and two years at Paradise. In 1942 she began her career as a mathematics teacher in the junior high schools at Parsons. She taught a the former West Junior High School and later at Parsons Junior High, retiring in 1976. She helped sponsor the drum and bugle corps while teaching at Parsons.

During her years at Parsons, she was active in the former Washington Avenue Methodist Church, helping with youth choirs. She was a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild and served as a state officer. After retirement, she returned to Walnut and was a active member of Walnut United Methodist Church, where she played both the organ and the piano. She was active in the Senior Citizens Center and served on the Walnut Library Board. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teachers organization.

Survivors include nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Walnut United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pauline Clugston officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Girard. The casket will remain closed. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard.

Mary C. McClintick

ST. PAUL- Mary C. McClintick, 71, of St. Paul, died at 6:02 a.m., Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul, where she had resided since August 2, 2002.

She was born July 17, 1932, at rural St. Paul, to Joe and Nellie (Siemer) Paulie.

She grew up at St. Paul and attended school there. After graduating from high school she worked as a certified nurse's aide at Living Skills for 30 years, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and the St. Francis Altar Society.

She married Don McClintick on July 5, 1951. They later divorced. He preceded her in death March 24, 2001.

Survivors include one son, William J. "Bill" McClintick of St. Paul; three daughters, Brenda Riggs of St. Paul, Debra Schoenhofer of Bruner, Mo., and Donna Welch of Welch, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Paulie of Camdenton, M0.; two sisters, Sister Julita Paulie of St. Paul; and Frances McCauley of Overland Park; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Paul "Butch" McClintick on Nov. 18, 1976; three brothers, John J. Paulie, Joseph Paulie, and Fred Paulie; and two sisters, Dorothy Radell, and Julita Meyer.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at St. Francis Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Vacca officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery. The Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home at St. Paul, and the parish rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home, St. Paul.

Rhea M. Buzard

COLUMBUS -- Rhea M. Buzard, 95, of Columbus, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the Medicalodge of Columbus, following an illness.

She was born Oct. 22, 1903, in rural Baxter Springs, to May and Maude Mitchelson Duff. She attended schools in the Baxter Springs area.

She married Allen Elliott in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1953. She married Scott Buzard in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1972.

Mrs. Buzard was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Pursel Chapter O.E.S., the Home Culture Club, the Home Study Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the 17ers of Columbus. She also was a member of the White Shrine at Miami, Okla.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the City Cemetery at Columbus with the Rev. Christine Iannucilli officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Murdock Funeral Home, Columbus.

Frances E. Corsini

Frances E. Corsini, 86, of 508 Grandview Heights, died at 4:43 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center emergency room, of a sudden illness.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway.

Edna Crites

ARCADIA -- Edna Crites, 77, of rural Arcadia, died at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the Girard District Hospital.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921, at Dunkirk, to Henry and Lillian Sandritter Yartz Sr. She was raised at Dunkirk and attended Gaskill School. She graduated from Arma High School and lived at Arma most of her life.

She married Floyd Crites on Dec. 24, 1943, at Pittsburg. He survives of the home.

She was a retired bookkeeper for Bottenfield's, Inc., where she worked for 35 years. She was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church, the Arma Eastern Star, and the Lon Helm Post No. 182 American Legion Auxiliary at Arma.

Additional survivors include two sisters, Helen Swigart and Nadine Kuhel, both of Arma; a brother, Henry Yartz Jr., of Arma; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Crites.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Bedene Funeral Home, Arma, with the Rev. Verl Strong officiating. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum at the Highland Park Cemetery of Pittsburg. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Bedene Chapel, at Arma. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bedene Funeral Home of Arma.

Chester 'Chet' Crosetto

COFFEYVILLE -- Chester "Chet" Crosetto, 77, of Coffeyville, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 20, 1921, at Frontenac, to Joseph and Louise Crosetto. He attended Frontenac schools and was a 1939 graduate of Frontenac High School. He attended Arkansas City Junior College, graduating in 1941. He also was a 1943 graduate of Kansas State Teachers College, where he also completed his master's degree in mathematics. During World War II, he held the rank of lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy while serving on the U.S.S. Jason. After his discharge in 1946, he continued to serve as a Naval Reserve Officer, attaining the rank of lieutenant.

He married Virginia Longan on Aug. 27, 1943, at Pittsburg.

He coached football at Mulberry High School. He also taught mathematics at Labette County High School at Altamont. In 1954, he became an agent for Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was promoted to district agent over southeast Kansas in 1955 and remained in his position until his retirement Jan. 1, 1998. He received his Charter Life Underwriters designation from the American College of Life Underwriters in 1962.

Mr. Crosetto served on the board of the Southeast Kansas Sales Congress. He was a member of the Coffeyville Life Underwriters Association and the Kansas State Life Underwriters Association. He was a member of the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce, the Inter-state Fair and Rodeo Board, Coffeyville Country Club Board and the Coffeyville Rotary Club. He was a founder and charter member of the Coffeyville State Bank and served on the Board of Directors. He was a past master of the Coffeyville Masonic Lodge. He served as chairman of the Coffeyville Memorial Hospital Board and was instrumental in the first large expansion of the hospital, which created which is now known as the North Wing and Extended Care Unit. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Coffeyville and served as both deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, C.J. Crosetto of Missouri City, Texas, and Larry Crosetto of Coffeyville; a daughter, Nancy Golden of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Crosetto's body was cremated. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to service time in the church parlor. Private graveside services will be in the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangemente are under the direction of the Ford-Wulf-Bruns Funeral Home, Coffeyville.

Therese A. Glazier

GIRARD -- Therese A. Glazier, 87, formerly of Pittsburg, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Girard Hospital District No. 1. She had been in failing health for two weeks and entered the hospital on Dec. 31, 1998.

She was born Sept. 25, 1911, at Pittsburg, to James J. and Kathryn Wollfolk Gilbert. She attended Pittsburg schools and was a 1930 graduate of Pittsburg High School.

She married Clarence "Sid" Glazier on March 11, 1944, at First Christian Church at Girard. He preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1963.

She was employed at the Crawford County Abstract Office at Pittsburg from 1931 until her retirement in 1972.

Mrs. Glazier was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge No. 131 at Pittsburg. She was a former member of the Salem Club at Girard.

Survivors, who helped provide for her care, include a sister, Juanita Jones of Girard; two nephews, Mike Gilbert of Coyville, and Jamie Gilbert of Olathe; and two nieces, Diane Ludwig of Toronto, and Marlaine Nickelson of Mulberry.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Gilbert, and an infant sister, Helen Gilbert.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Girard with the Rev. Darrell Biggs officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Girard.

James Roland Holmes

NEW YORK -- James Roland Holmes, 59, of New York, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at his home as a result of his bout with cancer.

He was born April 2, 1939, to Roland and Lora Margaret Holmes. He attended Pittsburg High School. He also attended Pittsburg State University, then went on to complete graduate work at theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mr. Holmes served as business manager for modern composer and author Dr. Ned Rorem. He was a musician for the Ice Capades for a season. In 1972, he gave a series of organ recitals. He was church organist and choir director at Church of the Intercesion in Washington Heights, N.Y. In 1973, he became organist and choir dictor at the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy at Manhattan, N.Y., where in September of 1998, he was honored with a plaque for his "25 years of devoted service." He composed "Stabat Mater," an unaccompanied choral work, published by Boosey & Hawkes.

Survivors include his mother of Corvallis, Ore.; two sisters Janet Gayle Strukel of Topeka and Dr. Zoe Ann Holmes of Corvallis; and two brothers, Neil Holmes of Overland Park and Stanley Holmes of Spring Hill, Fla.

Services will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1999, at the Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy. Mr. Holmes' body has been cremated and, according to his wishes, will be spread over Nantucket Island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Warren Mosher

BLUE MOUND -- Warren Mosher, 79, of Blue Mound, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital, Overland Park.

He was born Oct. 29, 1919, at Pittsburg, to Michael and Letha Leona Lowery Mosher.

He married Barbara Leaman on Jan. 8, 1943, at Parsons. She survives of the home.

He was a field supervisor for the Kansas Department of Revenue for 29 years.

Mr. Mosher was a member of the Federated Church and the Lotus Masonic Lodge at Blue Mound. He also was a member of the Mirza Shrine at Pittsburg and the Fort Scott Scottish Rite Bodies.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Fox of Coffeyville, Deborah West of Blue Mound and Jill Rigdon of Shawnee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at the Blue Mound Federated Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, Blue Mound.

G. Eric Schroeder

G. Eric Schroeder, 30, of 113 E. Kansas, died at 6:12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at the intensive care unit at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 29, 1968, at Port Jefferson, N.Y., to Gary E. and Sharyn Schroeder. He was a 1987 graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School. He attended Southwest Missouri State University at Springfield, Mo. He moved with his family to the Pittsburg area two years ago.

He married Sherri L. Marsh, on Oct. 26, 1996, at Kansas City, Mo. She survives of the home.

Mr. Schroeder was employed as a mechanic at Tyrell's Service.

He was a member of Victory Life Center.

Additional survivors include a son, Jonathan Schroeder of the home; his parents of Overland Park; a sister, Lara Polignano of Mission; his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Schroeder of Port Jefferson; and his maternal grandfather, Clifford C. Wood, of Longwood, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather and his maternal grandmother.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, with Pastor Don Talent officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Girard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday.

Wilma Louise Wolf

IANTHA, Mo. -- Wilma Louise Wolf, 67, of Iantha, Mo., died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. She had been in ill health for seven years.

She was born Aug. 31, 1931, at Appleton City, Mo., to Walter Albert and Lula Grace Purvis Ison.

Mrs. Wolf was a homemaker.

She was a former member of the Iantha Homemakers.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Percy of Lamar, Mo.; two daughters, Kristy McGuire of Pittsburg and Tina Fiala of Liberal, Mo.; a brother, Willard Ison of Iantha; two sisters, Evelyn Caruthers of Fayetteville, Ark., and Jean Buzzard of Lamar; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Oakes officiating. Burial will be in the Barton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bessie Marie LeGrand

FRONTENAC -- Bessie Marie LeGrand, 93, of 413 S. Dittman, Frontenac, died at 12:10 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at the Medicalodge South Nursing Home of Pittsburg, where she had been a patient for three days. She had been in ill health for one year.

She was born July 5, 1906, at Elizabeth Town, Ill., to Chester G. and Mira Bell Jackson Baldwin. She had been a Frontenac resident most of her life.

She married John LeGrand on July 20, 1929, at Perry, Okla. He preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 1980.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle, at Pittsburg.

Survivors include a son, Jack H. LeGrand, of 4097 Mt. Carmel Rd., Frontenac; a daughter, Sue J. Delmaz, of St. Charles, Mo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, with the Rev. Daryl Gaddy, and the Rev. Danny Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Pittsburg. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home.
