HAYS -- Artha Joyce Griffey, 69, Hays, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
Mrs. Griffey was born Artha Joyce Billips on Sept. 8, 1935, near Edmond. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Burton, of Hays; a son, Randall of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Cindy Bauer of Hays, Gwen Buscher of Overland Park and Carolyn Long of Hill City; three sisters, Paula Smith of Sun City West, Ariz., and Doris Minks and Wava Reed, both of Hays; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hill City. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Hill City.

Memorials may be made to Graham County Community Foundation Theatre Project, Hill City, or Celebration Community Church, Hays.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Thursday at the church.

Spencer-Stenemetz Chapel, 522 N. Pomeroy, Hill City 67642, is handling arrangements.

Donna D. Hurd
GOODLAND -- Donna D. Hurd, 69, Goodland, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
Mrs. Hurd was born Donna D. Hayden on Nov. 30, 1935, in Goodland. She was a retired clerk at the Sherman County treasurer's office.

Her husband, Dick, also died Dec. 5, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Hurd of Kansas City, Mo., and Timothy Hurd of Raymore, Mo.; two sisters, Vida Rice of Caldwell, Idaho, and Charlene Kramer of Goodland; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Mountain time Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Goodland.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Memorial Fund.

Richard L. "Dick" Hurd
GOODLAND -- Richard L. "Dick" Hurd, 75, Goodland, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
Mr. Hurd was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Goodland. He was a retired auto supply manager for retail auto supplies.

His wife, Donna, also died Dec. 5, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Hurd of Kansas City, Mo., and Timothy Hurd of Raymore, Mo.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Mountain time Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Goodland.

HOISINGTON -- Marie T. Jones, 78, Hoisington, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
Mrs. Jones was born Marie T. Hoeffner on June 27, 1926, in Redwing. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Roy L., of the home; a daughter, Nadine Jones of Hoisington; and a sister, Elizabeth Kaiser of Kansas City, Kan.

A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Hoisington Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Clara Barton Hospital Foundation or National Kidney Association, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, P.O. Box 146, Hoisington 67544.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.

Helen Leiker, 84, Salina, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004.
Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, Salina, is handling arrangements.

William John "Jack" Littlechild
HAYS -- William John "Jack" Littlechild, 86, Hays, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004.
Mr. Littlechild was born Dec. 8, 1917, in Trego County. He was a farmer and mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Esther, of Hays; a son, Dennis of Loveland, Colo.; two daughters, Annie Zachman of Hays and Brenda Flinn of Olathe; a brother, Kenneth of WaKeeney; four sisters, Evelye Tegtmeyer, Mary Ellen Overland and Gladys Jones, all of WaKeeney, and Betty Elders of Milwaukie, Ore.; three grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N. 12th, WaKeeney 67672. Burial will be in WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Marjorie P. Lockard
Marjorie P. Lockard, 91, Salina, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.
Mrs. Lockard was born Marjorie P. McCall on June 1, 1913, in rural Culver. She worked as a tailor at Palace Clothing and J.P. Roth & Sons, Salina. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Salina, United Methodist Women, Methodist Women Concern Group, Federated Club, Mother's Club, Carpenter's Auxiliary and Lockard Women's Society.

She was preceded in death her husband, Wayne B., in 1986; four brothers, Clair, Vernon, Glenn and George; and two sisters, Leola Johnson and Leora Rinker.

Survivors include a son, Daniel and wife Janet of Vienna, Va.; two daughters, Sharon Becker and husband Dick of Salina and Carol Sue Wright of Cambria, Calif.; a brother, Harold McCall of Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina 67401, the Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery, Culver.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 122 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Delbert L. Loesch
LYONS -- Delbert L. Loesch, 71, Lyons, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
Mr. Loesch was born March 6, 1933, in Lyons. He was a farmer, stockman and retired rural mail carrier.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, of the home; three sons, Rick and Roger, both of Lyons, and Kent of Raymond; a daughter, Debby Bach of Ellsworth; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Raymond Baptist Church, Raymond. Burial will be in Raymond Hilltop Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of Sillin Funeral Home, 214 West Ave. South, Lyons 67554.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Maynard J. Loofbourrow
BELOIT -- Maynard J. Loofbourrow, 87, Beloit, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
Mr. Loofbourrow was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Smith County. He was a construction manager.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Selma; and a daughter, Carol.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine, of the home; a son, Steve of Boonsboro, Md.; a daughter, Gail Hall of Colleyville, Texas; a stepson, Dan Schulz of Brookville; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Reimer of Liberal; a sister, Therona Manchester of Smith Center; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Beloit First Christian Church. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Gaylord Cemetery, Gaylord.

Memorials may be made to the church or Gideons International.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, 910 N. Campbell, Beloit 67420.

Aiden Christopher Mikkelson
BALDWIN CITY -- Aiden Christopher Mikkelson, infant son of Christopher and Destiny Mikkelson, Baldwin City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.
He was born Oct. 12, 2004, in Lawrence.

Survivors in addition to his parents include a brother, Byron of the home; a sister, Brianna of the home; his grandparents, LeRoy and Terri Mikkelson of Denver, Leah Serrano of Arvada, Colo., and James Ford and Celestial Stamper; and his great-grandparents, Merlin and Shelby Mikkelson of Miltonvale, Harriet Ferron of Lawrence, Bill and Roberta Barbour of Morrison, Colo., and Ilene Serrano of Broomfield, Colo.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Phelps Funeral Home, 217 W. First, Miltonvale 67466.

Patty Schartz
McPHERSON -- Patty Schartz, 48, McPherson, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004.
Mrs. Schartz was born Patty Reiser on Nov. 16, 1956, in Great Bend. She was the customer service manager at Vanguard Plastics, McPherson.

Survivors include her husband, Tony, of the home; two daughters, Chelsea Schartz of McPherson and Erin Schartz of Valley Center; two sons, Brad of McPherson and Brian of Austin, Texas; her parents, Norman and Charlene Reiser of McPherson; two sisters, Barbara McNichols and Brenda Shober, both of McPherson; a brother, Dennis Reiser of Hutchinson; and a grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Relay for Life in McPherson.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid, McPherson 67460, with the family present for a time of sharing from 7 to 8 p.m.

Peter Turkovic, 85, Salina, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.

Daniel Joseph Westhusin
GROTON, Conn. -- Daniel Joseph Westhusin, 58, Groton, died Dec. 1, 2004.
Mr. Westhusin was born Jan. 4, 1946, in Hays, Kan. He was a retired commander in the U.S. Navy and then worked with Sonalysts Corp. and Electric Boat Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Thomas R. of Hillsborough, N.J.; a stepson, Anthony G. Merrill of Thornton, Colo.; a daughter, Laura I. Westhusin of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Greg of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Gary of Plainville, Kan.; two sisters, Margaret Newton of Leesburg, Texas, and Dorothy Harris of Minneapolis, Kan.; a granddaughter; and two stepgrandsons.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery..

A parish vigil will be a 7 p.m. Thursday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville 67663.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 300 Research Parkway, Suite 10, Meriden, CT 06450; Submarine Veterans, 40 School St., Groton, CT 06340; or Sacred Heart Grade School, Plainville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bacil Butler
STOCKTON— Bacil Butler, 92, Stockton, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004.

Mr. Butler was born in Lebanon, Mo. He was a farmer in Jewell County and worked for Green Thumb Program in Glen Elder and in Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther, in 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Lucinda, of the home; a daughter, Verna Van Donge of Liberal; a stepdaughter, Anna Marie Wredrich of Gold Hill, Ore.; a son, Richard of Golden Valley, Ariz.; two stepsons, Raymond “Clint” Vrollier and Richard Guy Vrollier, both of Ulysses; a brother, Riggle of Beloit; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Kingdom Hall, Phillipsburg. Inurnment will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Woodston.

Memorials may be made to Bacil Butler Memorial Fund, in care of Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton 67669.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Rachel R. Goossen
COLBY — Rachel R. Goossen, 88, Colby, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Goossen was born Rachel R. Schmidt. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D.; and two sons, Alden and Marcus.

Survivors include a son, Maurice of Flat Rock, Mich.; two daughters, Esther Goossen of Brazil and Bonnie Berg of Colby; two brothers, Arthur Schmidt of Walton and Eldo Schmidt of Topeka; a sister, Evelyn Lehrman of Goessel; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mingo Bible Church, Mingo. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or Heartland Christian School, in care of any Colby Bank or Harrison Chapel.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Harrison Chapel, 190 S. Franklin, Colby 67701.

Elsie M. Gott
Elsie M. Gott, 81, Salina, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.

Mrs. Gott was born Elsie Mabel Kelly on Aug. 21, 1923, in St. Louis. She was a receptionist at Jostens Publishing, Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in 2001; and a daughter, Judy, in 1970.

Survivors include a son, Tom and wife Evelyn of Salina; a daughter, Joyce Tannehill and husband Keith of Assaria; five grandchildren, Judy Heidel of Gillette, Wyo., Mary Prescher of Abilene, Eve McDaniel of Sheridan, Wyo., Richard McDaniel of Salina and Dan Gott of Olathe; and eight great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jade, Kodi, Katelyn, Andrew, Thomas, Chrystal and Daniel.

A memorial service will be held later.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Juan Hernandez
Juan Hernandez, 82, Salina, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.

Mr. Hernandez was born March 9, 1922, in Robstown, Texas. He was a carpenter and worked for Beech Aircraft Corp.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Richard of Wichita; a brother, Leonardo and wife Paula of Corpus Christi, Texas; two stepbrothers, Guadalupe and Santos, both of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina.
