Margaret Stasser
ST. FRANCIS — Margaret Stasser, 95, St. Francis, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005.

Mrs. Stasser was born Margaret Gregory on Jan. 16, 1910, in Haigler, Neb. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 1998; a son, Gilbert, in 1996; and a grandson.

Survivors include three sons, Merle of Goodland, Leon of Mesa, Ariz., and Fred of St. Francis; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, St. Francis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Margaret Stasser Memorial Fund.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Knodel Funeral Home, 202 S. Benton, St. Francis 67756.

Mathilda Tillie Streck
GORHAM — Mathilda Tillie Streck, 85, Gorham, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.

Mrs. Streck was born Mathilda Tillie Bender on June 19, 1919, south of Russell. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin, in 1986; and an infant daughter, Gloria Kean Streck.

Survivors include two brothers, Clarence Bender of Russell and Leroy Bender of Garden City; and two sisters, Elsie Boger of Wichita and Viola Barrett of Wichita.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Gorham Community Church. Burial will be in Schneider Cemetery, rural Barton County.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell 67665.

Eunice Laveta Wheeler
ULYSSES — Eunice Laveta Wheeler, 91, Ulysses, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.

Mrs. Wheeler was born Eunice Laveta Layton on July 29, 1913, in Braymer, Mo. She was a homemaker and a retired florist at Jaynelle’s Flowers and Gifts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John (Jay) Riley Wheeler, in 1970; and a grandson.

Survivors include three sons, Arthur Layton Wheeler of Kearsage, Mich., Richard Reavis Wheeler of Quinter and Ronald Ellis Wheeler of Ulysses; four daughters, Patsy LuAnn Wormus of Casper, Wyo., Leora Lynne Webber of Salina and Jaynelle Sue Phillips and Zana Rae Rudzik, both of Ulysses; 20 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren 44 great-grandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Church of Christ, Ulysses. Burial will be in Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant, Ulysses 67880.

Dorothy A. Williams
GOODLAND — Dorothy A. Williams, 93, Goodland, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.

Mrs. Williams was born Dorothy A. Bedore on Jan. 29, 1912, in Zurich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie R.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Ruddell of Goodland; a brother, Lawrence Bedore of Stockton; two sisters, Margaret St. Peter of Aurora, Colo., and Ann Stephens of Wichita; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Goodland. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Burlington, Colo.

A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Mountain time today at Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland 67735.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Mountain time today at the funeral home.

Herbert H. “Herbie" Brockmeier
HERINGTON — Herbert H. “Herbie” Brockmeier, 80, Herington, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.

Mr. Brockmeier was born July 24, 1924, in Hope. He retired from the railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Berylene, of the home; two sons, Eugene of Rose Hill and Phil of Hope; two daughters, Kristy Rohloff of Andover and Lovica Logue of Wichita; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Herington. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to the church, in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, 404 S. Broadway, Herington 67449-3038.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frank J. Cikanek
WILSON — Frank J. Cikanek, 89, Wilson, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.

Mr. Cikanek was born Dec. 11, 1915, in Ellsworth County. He was a farmer and stockman.

He was married to Rose Pejsha Mattas on June 17, 1961.

He was a member of Vesmir CSA Lodge, a Czech lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Alma Deutsch and Wilma Olds, both of Wilson; a sister, Evelyn Lyons of Denver; two nieces, Rose Marie Degenhardt of Wichita and Donna Lyons of Orange, Calif.; five nephews, Raymond Fried of Roscoe, Texas, Terry Cikanek of Stockton, Joe Cikanek of Hutchinson, Derald Lyons of Parker, Colo., and Robert Lyons of Corpus Christi, Texas; four stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Foster Mortuary Chapel, 610 24th, Wilson 67490, with Sister Diane Wagner officiating. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Wilson.

Memorials may be made to Wilson Opera House Corp., in care of the mortuary.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to service time Monday at the mortuary.

Gertrude Fleckenstin
DRESDEN — Gertrude Fleckenstin, 88, Dresden, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Pauls Funeral Home, Selden, is handling arrangements.

Richard N. Gary
MINNEAPOLIS — Richard N. Gary, 85, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.

Mr. Gary was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Minneapolis. He was a loan officer for Citizens National Bank, Minneapolis.

He married Virginia M. Comfort on Oct. 1, 1940, in Wells. He married Maxine Ruehlen Johnson on Oct. 12, 1997, in Minneapolis.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Minneapolis Masonic Lodge, Minerva Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a former member of Minneapolis Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Ottawa County Fair Board and Rock City Investment Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia, in 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Minneapolis; three sons, Dick and wife Julie of Hutchinson, Bob and wife Cyndi of Iuka and Chuck and wife Eunice of Salina; four stepsons, Rick Johnson of Assaria, Tom and Brent Johnson, both of Minneapolis, and Mark Johnson of Salina; three grandsons, Devin, Brandon and Brian Gary; a great-grandson, Mason Gary; 11 stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Minneapolis. Cremation will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Shields Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis 67467, and before the service Sunday at the church.

Lauri Hoffman
LAWRENCE — Lauri Hoffman, 49, Lawrence, formerly of Russell, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005.

Mrs. Hoffman was born Lauri Mai on Aug. 15, 1955, in Russell. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include twin sons, Taylor and Tracy Driscoll, both of Russell; a son, Jason Driscoll of Lawrence; a daughter, Katy Hoffman of Lawrence; her parents, Richard and Ellen Mai of Westlake, Texas; three brothers, Rick and Kurt, both of Dallas, and Mark of Destin, Fla.; and a granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Russell. Burial will be in Russell City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church, in care of Pohlman-Heise Mortuary, 610 N. Maple, Russell 67665.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

WICHITA — Lawrence Jensen, 88, Wichita, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Fern D. Koehler
HERINGTON — Fern D. Koehler, 89, Herington, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Mrs. Koehler was born Fern D. Roehrman on Dec. 4, 1915, in Hope. She opened the Frigid Queen in 1950 and managed it for 21 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Edward, in 1991.

Survivors include a son, Leon of Colorado Springs, Colo., two daughters, Sandra Irelan of Leavenworth and Sharon Edris of Fennville, Mich.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granchild.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Herington. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.

Lowell W. Liedtke
RANTOUL — Lowell W. Liedtke, 65, Rantoul, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.

Mr. Liedtke was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Concordia. He moved to the Alta Vista area in 1986, where he worked at Pioneer Pork until retiring in June 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; three sons, Allan of North Glenn, Colo., Richard of Parkville, Mo., and Tony of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Janea White of Osawatomie; two sisters, Elaine Thornburg of Claremore, Okla., and Karen Stocks of Wichita; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Alta Vista. Burial will be in Glasco Cemetery.

Melva Merlau
HOISINGTON — Melva Merlau, 70, Hoisington, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Mrs. Merlau was born Melva Donovan on Dec. 13, 1934, in Hoisington. She was a housewife.

Survivors include her husband, Ed, of the home; three sons, Rondy of Hoisington, Virgil of Wichita and Jerry of Dallas; two daughters, Mary Lyne Grandclair of Hoisington and Anita Merlau of Tampa, Fla.; her mother, Lenora of Hoisington; a brother, Gerald of Hoisington; a sister, Delora of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, 415 North Main, Hoisington 65444. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Kans for Kids or Great Bend Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Carl A. Nelson, 87, Salina, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Marvin Ray Sprecker
LEONARDVILLE — Marvin Ray Sprecker, 82, Leonardville, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005.

Mr. Sprecker was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Bala. He was a farmer in the Bala area.

Survivors include his wife, Bonita, of the home; two sons, Gary of Salina and Rodney of Clay Center; a daughter, Vicki Baer of Topeka; a sister, Pearl Hayes of Phillipsburg; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Leonardville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Leonardville United Methodist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church or Homecare & Hospice of Manhattan.

WICHITA — Willmetta Hazel Van Scyoc, 91, Wichita, formerly of Russell, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005.

Hugh Richard Amann
ATWOOD — Hugh Richard Amann, 83, Atwood, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.

Mr. Amann was born March 17, 1921, in McCook, Neb. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerna; and a brother, Dale of Long Beach, Calif.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Congregational United Church of Christ, Trenton, Neb. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brantley Funeral Home, 215 S. Fourth, Atwood 67730.

Vernita L. Breer
TOPEKA — Vernita L. Breer, 94, Topeka, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.

Mrs. Breer was born Vernita Lucille McFarlane on Oct. 30, 1910, in Gypsum. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, in 1947; and her husband, Walter, in 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and Jerry, both of Topeka; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Salina.

A rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. today at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.
