NORTON - Alberta F. McCall, 92, Norton, died Saturday, June 4, 2005.

Mrs. McCall was born Alberta F. Bauguess on May 9, 1913, in Graham County. She was a homemaker and was a cook at several eating establishments.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernon Gill and Veryl McCall; and a son.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Gill of Norton; two daughters, Nellie Shearer of Almena and Vi Belden of Norton; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Enfield Funeral Home, 215 W. Main, Norton. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jarod A. Merrill
HOPE - Jarod A. Merrill, 18, Hope, died Saturday, June 4, 2005, as the result of an automobile crash.

Mr. Merrill was born Oct. 8, 1986, in Lyons. He was a 2005 graduate of Hope High School and a grounds maintenance worker at Geary Community Hospital, Junction City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Merrill, in 2003.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Rhonda and Phil Mudd of Hope; his foster parents, Amy and Jody Wilkerson of Hope; a sister, Crystal Pauli of San Diego; two brothers, Travis Merrill and Tyler Mudd, both of Hope; his grandmother, Martha Winslow; his stepgrandparents, Monte and Rosemary Mudd of Junction City; and his great-grandparents, Edwin and Elaine Holly of Fairbury, Neb.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herington. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Blue Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope High School Athletic Department or Geary Community Health Care Foundation, in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington 67449.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Ralph E. Scott
PLAINVILLE - Ralph E. Scott, 67, Plainville, died Monday, June 6, 2005.

Stinemetz Funeral Home, Hill City, is handling arrangements.

Frances L. Shaw
PUYALLUP, Wash. - Frances L. Shaw, 89, Puyallup, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005.

Mrs. Shaw was born Frances L. Rogers on Jan. 28, 1916, in Concordia, Kan. She was a retired beautician.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Shaw, in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana DeHaven of Puyallup; a son, William D. "Dan" Shaw of Panama; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home Chapel, 325 W. Sixth, Box 606, Concordia 66901. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.

Memorials may be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, Amarillo, Texas.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lola M. Steinhaus
LINCOLN - Lola M. Steinhaus, 83, Lincoln, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.

Hall Funeral Home, Lincoln, is handling arrangements.

Wilford "Bill" Taylor
JEWELL - Wilford "Bill" Taylor, 71, rural Jewell, died Saturday, June 4, 2005.

Mr. Taylor was born April 18, 1934, in Phillipsburg. He was a livestock feed salesman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores.

Survivors include two sons, Von of Jewell and Steve of Elkhart; two daughters, Linda Hummel of Dodge City and Cheryl Anderson of Syracuse, Neb.; a brother, Willard of Fairbury, Neb.; a sister, Winifred Melvin of Fairbury; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Jewell Christian Church. There will be a private burial in Jewell Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Jewell, or Solomon Valley Hospice.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the family home.

Alice LaVerne Thummel
ATCHISON - Alice LaVerne Thummel, 62, Atchison, died Monday, June 6, 2005.

Etta Grace Walker
OSBORNE - Etta Grace Walker, 87, Osborne, formerly of Stockton, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.

Mrs. Walker was born Etta Grace Meracle on Jan. 29, 1918, in Stockton. She worked for several cafes in the area.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle G., in 1967.

Survivors include a son, Chester of Bison; two daughters, Delores "Dee" Schweitzer of Osborne and Linda Bright of Park City; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 25 stepgreat-grandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton 67669. Burial will be in Stockton Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Care Center, Osborne, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Esther Wilson
OBERLIN - Esther Wilson, 83, Oberlin, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.

Mrs. Wilson was born Esther Bauer on Feb. 2, 1922, in Mitchell, Neb. She was a retired cook at Oberlin Elementary School.

Survivors include her husband, Loyl of Oberlin; two sons, L. Jay of Great Bend and Don I. of Loveland, Colo.; two daughters, Dixie Lee Nickel of Manhattan and Donna Dee Stanley of Lincoln, Neb.; two brothers, Fred Bauer of Elmo, Mont., and Henry Bauer of Edgemont, S.D.; a sister, Pauline Combs of Kennewick, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today at Pauls Funeral Home, 121 N. Penn, Oberlin 67749. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Decatur County Hospital.

There will be no visitation. The body was cremated.

Lillian L. Zeigler
Lillian L. Zeigler, 97, Salina, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.

Miss Zeigler was born Aug. 13, 1907, in Codell.

She was a graduate of Codell Rural High School and Fort Hays State University and earned her master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. She was a teacher in Codell, Blue Rapids and Concordia. She also was employed by the Salina School District for 30 years as a teacher at Bartlett Elementary School and a principal at South Park and Lowell schools, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, United Presbyterian Women and Presbyterian Guild, and was a life member of NEA, KNEA and PTA. She also was a member of MU Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, General Federation of Women's Clubs, Twentieth Century City Federation, Round Table Club, and national, state and local retired teachers associations.

She was a member of the Commission on Agency, RSVP Advisory Board, American Red Cross Board-Salina Chapter, Salina Regional Health Center Auxiliary, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and activities at Salina Presbyterian Manor.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and friends and colleagues.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, 308 S. Eighth, Salina 67401. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Natoma Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church, Salina Presbyterian Manor, 2601 E. Crawford, or Hospice of Salina, 139 N. Penn, all of Salina.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wilmer "Baldy Balderston
CLYDE - Wilmer "Baldy" Balderston, 83, Clyde, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005.

Mr. Balderston was born July 7, 1921, in Clifton. He was a plant technician/electrician for Northern Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Clyde; a daughter, Sharon Saulnier of Shawnee; two sons, Craig of Omaha, Neb., and Ron of Eagle, Idaho; two brothers, Dean of Olathe and Sam of West Boylston, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Clyde. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Ames, with military honors by VFW Post 7515 and American Legion Post 227.

Memorials may be made to the church and Meadowlark Hospice.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chaput Mortuary, 310 Washington, Clyde 66938, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dorothea N. Dreiling
HAYS - Dorothea N. Dreiling, 83, Hays, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.

Mrs. Dreiling was born Dorothea N. Blakely on Jan. 16, 1922, in Graham County. She was a volunteer and crafter.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred, of the home; two sons, James of Columbia, S.C., and Larry of Hays; a daughter, Donna Jeanne Ayala of Watkins, Colo.; a brother, Beverly Blakely of East Providence, R.I.; two sisters, Norma Seibel of Oakley and Patricia Beeby of Plano, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Christ the King Cemetery, WaKeeney.

A combined Hays Medical Center Auxiliary rosary, altar society Christians Mothers rosary, VFW Auxiliary rosary and St. John's of Hays rosary will be at 5 p.m. Friday followed by the parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays 67601.

Memorials may be made to Dreiling-Schmidt Cancer Center, Hays, or the Multiple Myeloma Association.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Veryl Dean Flohr
RANDOLPH - Veryl Dean Flohr, 77, Randolph, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.

Mr. Flohr was born April 13, 1928, west of Randolph. He worked at Kansas State University as a printer in the information department, retiring in 1990, and then refurbished and sold antiques at Antique Mall, Washington.

Survivors include three brothers, Elston of Lindsborg, Wayne of Belton, Texas, and Jerome of Randolph.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Walsburg Lutheran Church, northeast of Leonardville. Burial will be in Walsburg Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be today and Friday at Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, 303 S. Broadway, Riley 66531, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m Friday.

Richard B. Francis
WICHITA - Richard B. Francis, 63, Wichita, died Monday, June 6, 2005.

Mr. Francis was born May 15, 1942, in Concord, Mass. He was a pipefitter.

Survivors include his wife, Laura, of Florence; two sons; two stepsons, Micah Bailey of Florence and Eric Bailey of Huntsville, Texas; a stepdaughter, Mitzi Beth Bailey of College Station, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Florence United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

There will be no visitation.

Bill Franklin
FRANKLIN, Neb. - Bill Franklin, 77, Franklin, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.

Mr. Franklin was born May 4, 1928, in Lebanon, Kan. He was a farmer and cattleman.

Survivors include his wife, Aldean, of Franklin; a stepdaughter, Marla Baumann of Kensington, Kan.; a brother, Jim of Lebanon; a sister, Joann McElresh of Sutton; six stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Simonson-Williams Funeral Home Chapel, 241 W. Fourth, Red Cloud 68970. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin.

Ida Frantz
HILLSBORO - Ida Frantz, 88, Hillsboro, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005.

Mrs. Frantz was born Ida Senner on Jan. 16, 1917, in Tampa. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abe, in 1966; and a son, Gary, in 1999.

Survivors include three sons, Vernon of Rose Hill, Lauren of Wichita and Mike of Elgin, Ill.; a brother, Larry Senner of Abilene; two sisters, Anna Mae Goertz of Durham and Jeanette Schimming of Herington; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Mennonite Church, Hillsboro. Burial will be in Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church.

Lillian "Tillie Florence Hofmann
CLAY CENTER - Lillian "Tillie" Florence Hofmann, 92, Clay Center, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005.

Mrs. Hofmann was born Lillian Leipersberger on April 10, 1913, in Clay Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Evans Newton, in 1970; and her second husband, Kenneth Hofmann, in 2001.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Gilbert of Clay Center and Charlotte Braddock of Olsburg; a stepdaughter, Kay Etta Sumner of Mission, Texas; two stepsons, Robert Hofmann of Dodge City and John Hofmann of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Chapel, 918 Seventh, Clay Center 67432. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center.

Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Manor Good Samaritan Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

George Leon Lipp
AURORA, Colo. - George Leon Lipp, 64, Aurora, died Sunday, June 5, 2005.

Mr. Lipp was born Dec. 21, 1940, in Quinter, Kan.

Survivors include three sisters, Jane Schmidtberger of Grainfield, Kan., Frances Chism of Denver and Julia Hedge of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, Kan. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Park.
