CONCORDIA — Rex E. Strait Sr., 83, Concordia, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005.

Mr. Strait was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Concordia. He worked at Gillan’s Bakery, Concordia, and retired from Boogaart’s warehouse as a foreman.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rex Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; seven sons, Terry of Lincoln, Dennis of Olathe, Michael of Dickinson, Texas, Robert of Salina, William W. and Gary, both of Concordia, and Bruce of Jamestown; three daughters, Carolyn Altepeter of Brazil, Ind., and Kathy Drury and Heidi Boyer, both of Concordia; three brothers, Harold of Concordia, William of Colorado and Mel of Salina; and three sisters, Joan Demanette, Pauline Vignery and Johnnie Cassel, all of Concordia.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Baptist Church, Concordia. A graveside service will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.

Memorials may be made to the church or a recipient of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Nutter Mortuary, 116 E. Sixth, Concordia 66901, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Thomas E “Woody” Terry Jr
GOODLAND — Thomas E. “Woody” Terry Jr., 60, Goodland, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005.

Mr. Terry was born May 17, 1945, in Saltville, Va. He was employed as an assistant operator in a Goodland elevator and also with the City of Goodland.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; his mother, Katherine Wellmann of Columbus, Ohio; six sons, Greg of Goodland, Steve of Piketon, Ohio, James of Holcomb, Lane of Stockton, Donovan of Brewster and Derek of Goodland; seven daughters, Jodi Terry of Virginia Beach, Va., Kris Blair of St. Francis, Leann Miller of Liberal, Tammy Hayes of Goodland, Tara Balentine of Wallace, Donna Does of Ames, Iowa, and Elizabeth Kriley of Joplin, Mo.; three sisters, Patsy Lemaster and Paula Locke, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Brenda May of Hilton Head, S.C.; and 27 grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Mountain time Saturday at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 E. 11th, Goodland 67735. Burial will be in Goodland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to be designated later, in care of the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain time today at the funeral home and before the service on Saturday.

Lawrence E. Travis
MARION — Lawrence E. Travis, 94, Marion, formerly of Wichita and Milton, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.

Mr. Travis was born Jan. 29, 1911, in Runnymede. He was a retired salesman for Monarch Grocery Co.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Marion.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion 66861. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Milton United Methodist Church, Milton, or American Diabetes Association.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth E. Tucker
TOPEKA — Ruth E. Tucker, 94, Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005.

Mrs. Tucker was born Ruth E. Wilson Echols on Aug. 17, 1911, in Parkdale, Ark., the daughter of Thomas Wilson and Etta Katherine Porter Echols.

She attended Henderson Brown College, Arkadelphia, Ark.

She worked at Peacock Laundry for 12 years and was employed by the Topeka Police Department as a crossing guard for Quinton Heights Elementary for six years.

She married Raymond A. Tucker Sr. in 1944 in Houston. He died in 1975.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Steward and husband Denny and Julia Marsh, all of Topeka; a son, Raymond A. Tucker Jr. and wife Sue of Salina; a sister, Mary Gould of Levittown, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 S.W. Tenth, Topeka 66604. Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel’s Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midland Hospice, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle, Topeka 66606, or Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury, Topeka 66614.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel, where the family will receive friends.

Eleanor G. Wilcox
Eleanor G. Wilcox, 92, Salina, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.

Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements.

James A. Wood
TULSA, Okla. — James A. Wood, 80, Tulsa, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005.

Charlotte Jean Gildersleeve
BELOIT — Charlotte Jean Gildersleeve, 74, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005.

Mrs. Gildersleeve was born Charlotte Jean Morrell on Aug. 16, 1931.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Elmwood Cemetery, Beloit.

Walter Martin Janicke
CHAPMAN — Walter Martin Janicke, 89, Chapman, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005.

CONCORDIA — Laura Larson, 98, Concordia, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005.

Evelyn Mae Robinson
SMITH CENTER — Evelyn Mae Robinson, 85, Smith Center, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005.

Mrs. Robinson was born Evelyn Mae Carpenter on Feb. 16, 1920, in Smith County. She was a retired homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1987; and a daughter, Barbara Wyman, in 2003.

Survivors include a son, Jim of Beloit; two daughters, Beverly Feldmann of Athol and Beth Limbocker of Las Vegas; two brothers, Ashby Limbocker of Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Lyle Limbocker of Las Vegas; a sister, Ardis Richardson of Lake Winnebago, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Downs Christian Church. Burial will be in Downs Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Gaylord Community Center.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Domoney Funeral Home, 817 Morgan, Box 127, Downs 67437.

Sherri Ann Russo
ENTERPRISE — Sherri Ann Russo, 48, Enterprise, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005.

Mrs. Russo was born Sherri Ann Kessler on April 8, 1957, in Salina. She worked in radio broadcasting for many years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Quenton Kessler.

Survivors include three sons, Joshua Patrick Flynn of Kansas City, Andrew Quenton Flynn and Mason Brian Flynn, both of Abilene; her mother, Lois Beeney of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, William Michael Kessler of Clermont, Fla.; a sister, Courtney Allen of Salina; and her stepmother, Charmaine Kessler of Abilene.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Abilene. Burial will be in Abilene Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Abilene Public Library in care of Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today until service time on Wednesday.

JayDean Schroeder
HILLSBORO — JayDean Schroeder, 67, Hillsboro, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005.

Mr. Schroeder was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Hillsboro. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, of Marion; two sons, James of Marion and Joel of Newton; a brother, Hank of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a sister, Marilyn Hall of Wichita; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church, Hillsboro. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Memorials may be made to the church or Parkside Homes.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington, Hillsboro 67063.

Susan Kay Selders
SMOLAN — Susan Kay Selders, 58, Smolan, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005.

Mrs. Selders was born Susan Kay Manis on Nov. 16, 1946, in Odessa, Mo. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robert J., of the home; three daughters, Tonda McGrath of Salina, Casey Coleman of Olathe and Brenda McGrath of Texas; a son, Rusty of Salina; a brother, Larry Manis of Wellington, Mo.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlson-Ford-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina 67401. Inurnment will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Memorials may be made to Susan K. Selders Memorial Fund, in care of the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Clifford L. Vogan
Clifford L. Vogan, 81, Salina, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005.

Mr. Vogan was born Sept. 9, 1923, in rural Saline County. He was a real estate broker for 24 years and owned and operated Vogan Real Estate.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eula, in 1972.

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Salina; five sons, George Livergood and Dennis Vogan, both of Overland Park, Jim Livergood of Topeka and Douglas Livergood and Charles Vogan, both of Salina; two daughters, Virginia Kapinos of Bondsville, Mass., and Sondra Akers of Overland Park; two sisters, Dorothy Hughes of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Charlene Kraft of Wichita; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe, Salina 67401. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Salina, 139 N. Penn, Salina 67401.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina 67401, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Viola Louise Christine Winter
LINN — Viola Louise Christine Winter, 87, Linn, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005.

Mrs. Winter was born Viola Louise Christine Bohling on Jan. 30, 1918, in Rohrs, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 1981; a stepson; and stepdaughter.

Survivors include a stepson, Willis of Concordia; a stepdaughter, Kathy Schaaf of Linn; a brother, Richard Bohling of Johnson, Neb.; three sisters, Alvina Kuhlman of Smith Center, Sophia Rizor of Tecumseh, Neb., and Hulda Zier of Lincoln, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Palmer. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Palmer.

Memorials may be made to the church or Martin Luther Home, in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 Seventh, Clay Center 67432.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Clarence Elmer Bartel
DURHAM — Clarence Elmer Bartel, 80, Durham, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005.

Mr. Bartel was born April 13, 1925, in Durham. He was a farmer and stockman.

Survivors include his wife, Ann of Durham; a son, Marlin of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Cheryl Bartel of Hillsboro; a brother, Dean of Olathe; two sisters, Audrey Bartel of Newton and Georgia Bartel of Wichita; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Enterprise SDA Church. Burial will be at noon Friday in Durham Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the church or Becker City of Durham Library Fund.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jost Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington, Hillsboro 67063.

Sharon Diane Gill
BEVERLY — Sharon Diane Gill, 62, Beverly, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005.

Mrs. Gill was born Sharon Diane Ewton on July 11, 1943, in Chico, Calif. She worked at Tony’s Pizza.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph of Beverly; her mother, Lillian Ewton of Sterling City, Calif.; two sons, Matt of California and Doug of Fairfield, Calif.; a daughter, Kay McClean of Sterling City; a sister, Margie Ewton of Sterling City; and nine grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at a later date.

Yolanda Carol Goff
MINNEAPOLIS — Yolanda Carol Goff, 70, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005.

Mrs. Goff was born Yolanda Carol Ghilarducci on Dec. 21, 1934, in Denver. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Verlin W. of Minneapolis; two sons, Michael Verlin Goff of Minneapolis and David Richard Goff of Salina; two daughters, Marie Verlinda Ballou and Ilene Faye Mullen, both of Minneapolis; a brother, Richard Ghilarducci Jr. of Arvada, Colo.; a sister, Rose Ann Soucie of Grand Junction, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Church, Minneapolis. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.

A vigil will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Shields Funeral Home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis 67467.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
