ELLEN MOORMAN

Ellen Moorman, 97, of Solomon, Kansas, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina. She was born Nov. 28, 1904 the daughter of James and Mary (Crowley) Burns. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth and attended the local schools graduating from Kipp High School with the class of 1925. She was united in marriage on Dec. 27, 1937 to Clarence Moorman in Solomon. Her husband preceded her in death in 1951. She was a homemaker, a lifetime resident of the Solomon area, a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the St. Ann's Altar Society, both of Solomon and the 51 Club.

She is survived by one son James of Solomon. Her husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters preceded her in death.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father John Wolesky officiating. A parish rosary will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Solomon. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Solomon.

M. IRENE FADER

M. Irene Fader 86, Abilene, Kansas died Sunday September 8, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. She was born January 24, 1916 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Byron and Lily (Fitzpatrick) Smith. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth and attended the local schools. On June 10, 1941 she was united in marriage with Leroy Willard Fader in Sioux City, Iowa. They moved to Abilene, Kansas in 1948 to make their home. Mr. Fader preceded her in death on 1981.

She was a homemaker and had worked as a desk clerk at the Forester Hotel and Trails End Motel in Abilene. She also had worked as cook at Abilene Memorial Hospital. She was a Jehovah Witness

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Fader, Abilene, Kansas, and Virginia Alexander, Fair Play, Missouri, a Son Dennis Fader, Pittsburg, California, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and other relatives.Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Brienza in 1978 and her parent's two brothers and two sisters.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at Kingdom Hall Abilene, Kansas Saturday September 14, 2002 at 2:00 PM with John Norman officiating. Private burial will be in the Abilene Cem:etery. The Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.

ESTHER E. BEEMER

Esther E. Beemer 88, Navarre, Kansas, died Tuesday December 10, 2002 at the Chapman Valley Manor, Chapman, Kansas. She was born July 12, 1914 at Tampa, Kansas, the daughter of William and Edith (Husband) Stegeman. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth and attended the Tampa schools, graduated from Tampa High School and attended McPherson College, McPherson, Kansas. She received her teaching certificate and taught at the Superior School and Bonaccord rural Schools. On June 2, 1938 she was united in marriage with Lewis Beemer at the College Hill Church. They made their home in Littlefield, Texas, for two years and returned to Dickinson County to make their home. She was a homemaker and school teacher. She taught school at the Rural Center School for 24 years retiring in 1981. She was a member of the New Basel United Church of Christ, the Stitch & Chatter Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Navarre EHU.

Surviving are her husband, Lewis, of the home, four sons, Duane Beemer and wife Ila, Abilene, Kansas, Rodney Beemer and wife Dawn, Bennington, Kansas, Daryl Beemer and wife Vicki, Chapman, and Roger Beemer and wife Connie, Hope, Kansas. 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held at the New Basel United Church of Christ, Saturday December 14, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Chester Strobel officiating. Burial will be in the Navarre Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Friday evening from 7-8 PM where friends may call until time of service.

RAYMOND P. HOFFMAN

Rev. Raymond P. Hoffman, 80, Junction City, Kansas, died Tuesday February 11, 2003 at the Valley View Professional Care Center, Junction City, Kansas. He was born September 3, 1922 at Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of Raymond and Sarah (Kelley) Hoffman. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth, and attended the Lowell Schools; following graduation he attended Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Virginia. On June 1, 1946 he was united in marriage with Priscilla Rika Garmon in Lowell, Massachusetts. He then entered the United States Army where he served as a Chaplain for 37 years prior to retirement. They then made their home in Junction City, Kansas, and he served the St. John's Episcopal Church in Abilene, Kansas, from February 1978 until February 1998. Mrs. Hoffman preceded him in death on June 12, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, Phillip Parker Hoffman, Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Stephen Mark Hoffman, Salina, Kansas, three grandchildren and other relatives. Besides his wife, Priscilla, he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Meredith Lydia Hoffman in March of 2002.

Funeral services will be held at the St. John's Episcopal Church, Abilene, Kansas, Monday February 17, 2003 at 11:00 AM with Bishop William E. Smalley, and the Rev. Dr. Frank Holtz officiating. Following cremation, inurnment will be in the Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Friends may call at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, until time of service.

The family of Raymond P. Hoffman suggests that friends may contribute to the St. John's Episcopal Church, Abilene, Kansas, in his memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

CALVIN J. KOHMAN

Calvin J. Kohman, 79, of Solomon passed away Saturday evening Feb. 15, 2003 at the Salina Regional Hospital, Salina. He was born Nov 17, 1923 in Abilene, Kansas the son of John and Anna (Haslouer) Kohman. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth and attended the local schools graduating from Abilene High School with the class of 1943.On July 15, 1950 he was united in marriage with Beth Cleland in Abilene. They have made their home in the Solomon area for the past 52 years where he was a farmer / stockman. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Solomon, the Knights of Columbus, Solomon, VFW, Salina, Garfield Township Board, Solomon COOP Board of Directors, Dickinson County Water Districts #2 Director, and a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Marine Corp.

He is survived by his wife Beth of the home, 2 sons, Ray and Kurt of Solomon, 5 daughters, Kathy Prather of Wakarusa, Kansas, Marleen Hoerman of Washington, Missouri, Julie Kauffman of Enterprise, Kansas, Janine Henry of Solomon, and Mary McDonald of Abilene, Kansas. Also, surviving are 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and one sister, Berniece Berger of Mancos, Colorado. Two brothers, Henry and Lester, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Solomon with Fr. John Wolesky officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Solomon, Kansas. A parish rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the church. Friends may call at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, Solomon until 6:00 PM Monday evening.

The family of Calvin Kohman suggests memorial contribution in his name to the American Cancer Society via the Youth Relay For Life. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.

Alameda K. Jantz, 89, formerly of Abilene, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center, Salina, Kansas.

PATRICIA IRENE DAVIS

Patricia I. Davis 74, Abilene, Kansas, died Sunday July 27, 2003 at her home.

She was born July 13, 1929 at Abilene, Kansas the daughter of Clarence E. and Elsie M. (Bolen) Eggleston. She attended school in Abilene and Salina, Kansas. On May 4, 1946 she was united in marriage with Dean E. Davis in Junction City, Kansas. They have made their home in California and Abilene, Kansas since that time. With her husband Dean she owned and operated the Davis Paint Store, Abilene and for 25 years was a self employed wallpaper hanger and painter.

Surviving are her husband Dean of the home, two sons, Mike Davis, and Tim Davis, three daughters, Teresa Burleson, Linda Longhofer, and Lesa Adee all of Abilene, two sisters, Marjorie Wells, Abilene, Kansas and Laura Zimmerman, Baxley, Georgia, 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Howard and Robert Eggleston.

Funeral services will be held at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Wednesday July 30, 2003 at 10:30 Am with Rev. Earl Haggard officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery, Solomon, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7-8 PM where friends may call until time of service.

DONALD G. WHITELEY

Donald G. Whiteley, 38, of Solomon, died at his home Sunday evening, Oct. 26, 2003.He was born November 2, 1964 at Salina, Kansas, the son of Dean and Judy (Rider) Whiteley.He grew to manhood in the Solomon, Kansas, area, attended the Solomon schools and graduated from Solomon High School with the class of 1983. He was a cabinet finisher and worked for the Crestwood Company, Salina, Kansas. On July 15, 1988 he was united in marriage with Gayla Brungardt in Salina, Kansas. They have made their home in Solomon. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Abilene, Kansas.

Surviving are his wife, Gayla of the home, one son, Cody Whiteley, of the home, a step son Ross Shirack, of Solomon, his parents, Dean and Judy Whiteley, two brothers, Michael Whiteley and wife Cindy Jo, and Darren Whiteley and wife Danette, all of Solomon, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday Nov. 1, 2003 at the First Christian Church, Abilene with Rev. Ryan Johnson & Rev. Virgil Eubanks officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery, Solomon. The family will receive friends at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7:30-8:30 PM.

WAYNE L. HELLER

Wayne L. Heller, 81, Abilene, Kansas died Wednesday October 29, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was born October 2, 1922 at Woodbine, Kansas, the son of Herbert L. and Vera M. (Adam) Heller. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth, attended the rural schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1940.He was a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Navy.

On April 12, 1946 he was united in marriage with Shirley D. Pearce in Topeka, Kansas. All their married life was spent in Abilene, Kansas.He owned and operated the Barnsdall Super Service in Abilene for twenty years, and was the service manager for Ronald Rice Motors for 8 years, prior to retirement. Mrs. Heller preceded him in death on December 23, 2001. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Abilene, the American Bowling Congress, and the Abilene Elks Club.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Williams and Pam Heller, both of Abilene, three sons, Larry Heller, Wamego, Kansas, Michael Heller, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Scott Heller, Solomon, Kansas. five sisters, Evelyn Gugler, Dorothy Hartenstein, and Ruth Beetch, all of Abilene, Helen Baer, Wakefield, Kansas, and Bernice Schaeffer, Arvada, Colorado, a sister- in -law, Elaine Benedict, Anaheim, California, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and other relatives. Besides his wife, Shirley, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ronald Heller, a grandson Richard Heller, and two sisters, Leona Mae Heller, and Betty Loy.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Abilene, Kansas, Saturday November 1, 2003 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Rick Saylor officiating. Inurnment will be in the Abilene Cemetery. The Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.

BEVERLY G. "Frenchie" FRENCH

Beverly G. French 75, Abilene, Kansas, died Sunday December 21, 2003 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was born May 12, 1928 at Carlton, Kansas, the son of Glen E. and Lucille (Sutton) French. He moved to Abilene, Kansas, as a child, attended the Abilene Schools, and graduated from Abilene high School with the class of 1945. He then worked at the Abilene Mill prior to entering the United States army in 1950.On April 16, 1951 he was united in marriage with Ruby Debenham at Abilene. All their married life was spent in Abilene.He attended barber school in Oklahoma City, and owned and operated his own barber shop for 48 years. He was part owner of the Old Abilene Town, tourist attraction for over 20 years. He was a charter member of the Abilene Eagles Aerie, and past Exalted Ruler of the Abilene Elks Lodge.
Surviving are his wife Ruby of the home, one daughter, Debbie Hawk, Abilene, Kansas, one son Douglas French, Las Vegas, Nevada, one brother, Marcus French, Aurora, Colorado, two sisters, Linda Holmes, Abilene, Kansas, and Carol Roger, Papillion, Nebraska, ,2 grandchildren, Joe Hawk, and Crystal Kohman, Abilene, Kansas, 4 great grandchildren, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Mavis Bean and a daughter in infancy..

LOIS M. BAKER

Lois Margaret Baker, 90, Abilene, Kansas, died Thursday March 11, 2004 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center, Enterprise, Kansas.She was born January 3, 1914 in Ottawa County, Kansas, the daughter of Theodore and Pearl (Locke) Mitchell. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth and attended the local schools. On March 5, 1936 she was united in marriage with Raymond H. Baker in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They made their home in Longford, Kansas, where she operated a beauty shop until her retirement. She was a member of the Longford United Methodist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Shirley Gurnee, Abilene, Kansas, two grandsons, Carl E. Mosher, Putney, Vermont, and William S. Mosher, Keene, New Hampshire, 4 step grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, Chelsea M. Severance, Brattleboro, Vermont, and Shelbi V. Mosher, Hinsdale, New Hampshire, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by an infant son in 1943, her husband Raymond on June 6, 1957, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at the Longford United Methodist Church, Longford, Kansas, Monday March 15, 2004 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Steven Thaden officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery, west of Oak Hill, Kansas. Friends may call at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, until time of service.

BETTY A. STEELE

Bernnetta "Betty" Steele, 77, Abilene, Kansas, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at her home. She was born July 19, 1926 at Sipio, Kansas the daughter of Frank Joseph and Francis Cresetia (Rossman) Winkleman. She grew to womanhood in the community of her birth, attended the local schools. On March 17, 1946 she was united in marriage with Louis Francis Steele in Kingman, Kansas. They owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Café in Abilene from 1948 until their retirement in 1980. Mr. Steele preceded her in death on April 27, 1987. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are one son Louis Fredrick "Fred" Steele, three daughters, Betty Jo Hoadley, Burlingame, Kansas, Joyce Lindholm, Salina, Kansas, and Sally Koelling, Emmett, Kansas, two step sons, Richard Steele, Wichita, Kansas, and Roger Steele, Lincoln, Nebraska, two sisters, Agnes Pillgren, Paris, Arkansas, and Mary Honeyman, Stillwater, Oklahoma, three brothers, Donald Winkleman, Wellsville, Kansas, Robert Winkleman, Independence, Kansas, and Kenneth Winkleman, Cherryvale, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and other relatives. Besides her husband, Francis, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Harold, and Joseph, and two sisters, Hilda, and Helen.

A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church, Abilene, Kansas, Tuesday June 1, 2004 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jason Kohlor officiating. Inurnment will be in the Abilene Cemetery. The Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas is in charge of arrangements.

SHIRLEY D. FISCHER

Shirley D. Fischer, 66, of Abilene, Kansas died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 in an automobile accident in Saline County.

Arrangements will be announced by the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas.

ANN M. KURTZ

Ann M. Kurtz 61, Enterprise, Kansas, died Thursday February 3, 2005 at the Enterprise Estates Nursing Center, Enterprise, Kansas. She was born February 25, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of Paul W. and Francis (Contreras) Davis. She grew to womanhood in Mexico, and Los Angeles, California. On May 21, 1966 she was united in marriage with Thomas Andrew Matthews. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1968. On January 31, 1978 she married Randall Steven Kurtz. He also preceded her in death in July of 1982. Most of her adult life was spent in southern California. She was a school secretary. She moved to Kansas in May of 1998. She was an antique dealer and had served on the Enterprise Library Board.

Surviving are one brother, Leon Davis, Roland Heights, California, cousins Sylvia Nelson, Huntington Beach, California, and Irene Raum, Vanning, California, and other relatives. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two half sisters, Rose Garcia and Lillian Verdugo.

Funeral services will be held at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Monday February 7, 2005 at 10:30 AM. with Fr. Henry Baxa officiating. The body was cremated.

RALPH J. REICHERT

Ralph J. Reichert 73, Abilene, Kansas, died Thursday February 3, 2005 at the Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kansas. He was born November 28, 1931 at Fall City, Nebraska the son of Frank and Mary (Sextro) Reichert. He attended Sacred Heart High School, Fall City, Nebraska. Following high school he joined the United States Coast Guard. On January 31, 1953 he was united in marriage with Betty Sue Miller in Topeka, Kansas. They made their home at Riley, Kansas where they owned and operated the Jersey Nook Dairy Farm. They retired and moved to Abilene, Kansas in 2000. He was a member of the Seven Dolor’s Catholic Church, Manhattan, Kansas.

Surviving are his wife Betty of the home, five daughters, Connie Brunner, Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Nancy Frank and husband Chuck, Louisville, Ohio, Donna Nanninga and husband Ron, Abilene, Kansas, Carol Sinning, Hiawatha, Kansas, Cathy Gabay, and husband Steve, Abilene, Kansas, two sons, Jeffery Reichert and wife Trish, Riley, Kansas, and Ralph Reichert Jr, Kansas City, Missouri, two sisters, Florence Higgins, Metairie, Louisiana, and Ruth Weitl, York, Nebraska, 23 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

Private funeral services will be held at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, Abilene, Kansas, Monday afternoon with Fr. Henry Baxa officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until noon Monday.
