MARQUETTE -- Leslie Johnson died Oct. 6, 1999, at Lindsborg Community Hospital. He was 81.
Arrangements are pending with Olson's Funeral Home, Marquette.

Luther Horn
Luther Horn, 1004 Cedars Drive and formerly of 916 N. Myers, died Oct. 12, 1999, at The Cedars Health Care Center, He was 91.
Arrangements are pending with Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home.

Robert Maddox
Robert Dobbins Maddox died Nov. 1, 1999, at Memorial Hospital. He was 72.
He was born April 30, 1927, in Kidder, Mo., the son of Roy and Lorene Maddox Dobbins. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Dobbins, McPherson, and Buddy Dobbins, Wichita; two daughters, Sharon Pankratz, Hillsboro, and Iona Likins, McPherson; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ricky L. Dobbins, and one grandson, Jeffrey Pankratz.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service at Canton Cemetery will be held at a later date. Buhler Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

LeRoy Henry
LINDSBORG -- LeRoy M. Henry died Oct. 6, 1999, at Bethany Home. He was 78.
He was born Feb. 18, 1921, at Lindsborg, to Archie and Helen (Anderson) Henry. He married Virginia L. Lindstrom on Feb. 19, 1941, at Los Angeles, Calif. He was a resident of Lindsborg since 1981, moving from Victorville, Calif., and formerly of Marquette. He was a retired electrician. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Emil Pinkall American Legion Post No. 140, both of Lindsborg. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include: his wife, Virginia Henry, Lindsborg; one son, R. Scott Henry, Reno, Nev.; one daughter, Lana Toburen, Greenville, N.C.; one sister, Arlene Shupe, Englewood, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, with the Rev. Dr. Victoria Brundage and the Rev. Don Hawk officiating. Burial will be in the Marquette Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hays Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
Memorials are suggested to Bethany Home or Messiah Lutheran Church, both of Lindsborg.

Marilyn Wilson
Marilyn J. Wilson, 1734 W. Kansas Avenue, died Oct. 11, 1999, at her home. She was 60.
She was born April 7, 1939, at Logan, to M. Wayne and Florence I. (Green) Reitzel. She married William J. "Bill" Wilson on Feb. 13, 1960, at Trinity Methodist Church, Hutchinson.
She retired from Sterling Drug in 1992 and began working as a bookkeeper/secretary for Prairie Art and Sign Co. She had lived in McPherson since 1961, moving from Hutchinson. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mary-Martha Circle of United Methodist Women, Happy Homemakers FCE and the Alleluya Bell Choir.
Survivors include: her husband, William J. "Bill" Wilson, of the home; three sons, Tim Wilson, Canton, and Tom Wilson and Troy Wilson, both of McPherson; one daughter, Teresa Armstrong, Hays; two brothers, Neal Reitzel, Mesa, Ariz., and Melvin Reitzel, Durand, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Walter Reitzel, during World War II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Harvey officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church, McPherson, or Hospice of Reno County, Hutchinson.

Alice Doherty
LINDSBORG -- Alice Doherty died Nov. 3, 1999, at Bethany Home. She was 91.
She was born Sept. 18, 1908, at Paola, daughter of Patrick Henry and Estella Mae (Shriver) Maloney.
On June 1, 1929, she married Edward James Doherty Sr., at Ottawa. He died on March 11, 1972.
She was a resident of Lindsborg for 43 years, having moved from Marquette.
Surviving are five sons, Edward Doherty Jr., St. Louis, Mo., Wendall Doherty and Patrick Doherty, both of Salina, Charles Doherty, Des Moines, Iowa, and Michael Doherty, Lindsborg; two daughters, Bernadette Heline, Salina, and Betty Holcombe, Lindsborg; two step-daughters, Leona Oyster, Paola, and Nadine Threasher, Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Anna Hruska, Paola, and Ota Robie, Overland Park; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, a grandchild and a step-grandchild.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lindsborg with Pastor Jeff Waugh and Pastor Darrell Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Lindsborg.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Hays Funeral Home.

Roger Hubin
MOUNDRIDGE -- Roger L. Hubin died Oct. 6, 1999, at Memorial Home. He was 47.
He was born Oct. 13, 1951, at Newton, to Leslie H. and Helen M. (Schrag) Hubin. He was a cook at Georgetown Retirement Center, Wichita, and had lived in Moundridge one week, moving from Wichita. He graduated from Moundridge High School and attended Hutchinson Community College and Tabor College.
Survivors include: his parents, Leslie and Helen Hubin, Moundridge; and two sisters, Beverly Stroud, Abilene, and Emily Sundquist, Moundridge.
Private family graveside services will be conducted with Marlo Graber officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Moundridge Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the Leukemia Society.

Robert Maddox
CANTON -- Graveside services for Robert Dobbins Maddox, 72, who died Nov. 1, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Canton Cemetery.

Norene Catron Ketcherside
Norene Catron Ketcherside, 70, of McPherson, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. She was born on Aug. 22, 1938, in Topeka, the daughter of Donald and Twila (Flickinger) Catron. Norene taught elementary school in Topeka and McPherson for 35 years, retiring from USD 418 in 1998. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Norene received her Bachelor of Education Degree from Washburn University in Topeka in 1960. She graduated Cum Laude with Department honors and was a MacVicar Scholar. She received her Master of Education Degree in 1966 from Washburn University and was a Stoffer Scholar. Norene received other honors including Master Teacher, Teacher of the Year and member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for over 25 years. Norene was a member of the McPherson Church of Christ. She was a past Board Member of the McPherson Family Life Center.
On June 26, 1959, Norene was united in marriage to James L. Ketcherside in Topeka. The family was blessed to celebrate an early 50th wedding anniversary this past March. Survivors include: her husband, James of the home; son, Kirk Ketcherside and wife, Hala, and their two children, Yasmeen and Samira of Cypress, Texas; daughter, Jamie Ogden and husband, Charles, and their son, Chase Ogden, of Andover, and step-children, Josh Ogden and wife, Shawn, of Augusta, and Elizabeth Ogden of Shawnee; son, Kasey Ketcherside and wife, Lanie, and their daughters, Avery and Jordan, and son, Dawson, of Fargo, N.D.; sisters, Bonnie Renfro and husband, Charles, of Tucson, Ariz., and Nadine Gilbert of Topeka; brothers, Benny of Meriden, Donald, Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Topeka, Harley and wife, Almira, of Topeka, and Charley and wife, Donna, of Topeka; many nieces and nephews; and hundreds of school children whose lives she has touched and who meant so very much to her.
Norene loved the desert southwest, painting, tennis, reading and spending time with her six grandchildren. She enjoyed having her granddaughters over for dressup and formal tea parties in her flower garden and attending her grandson’s sporting events.
A Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 4 p.m. at Countryside Covenant Church, McPherson with Glen Elliott officiating. A private burial will precede the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the McPherson Church of Christ Scholarship & Charitable Trust, USD 418 Art Restoration Project, or the McPherson Museum in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

Dolores Arlene Attleson
Dolores Arlene Attleson, 76 of Lindsborg, died August 24, 2008.
Mrs. Attleson was born April 3, 1932, the daughter of Carl E. and Clara (Berge) Anderson at Sargeant, Minnesota.
A resident of Lindsborg since 1970 moving from Arvada, CO. She was a retired Administrative Assistant at Bethany Home.
Memberships include Bethany Lutheran Church, and former Kansas State Women's Bowling Assoc., Bridge Club, Wednesday Night Supper Club, Bethany College Dames, Volunteer Meals on Wheels and Stephen Ministries Volunteer.
On August 14, 1953 she married James R. Attleson at Denver, CO.
She was preceded by a son, Keith in 1994.
Survivors include her husband, James of Lindsborg; son, Kevin & wife Kim of Pittsburg, KS; daugthers, Kim Blomberg & husband Kent of Lindsborg, Karla Pihl & husband Kendall of Falun, KS; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Visitation will be on 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg, where family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Margaret Sawyer
Margaret Sawyer, 77, of McPherson, died Monday, July 7, 2008.
She was a homemaker, worked for two years at Farmers Alliance Insurance Company as a secretary, and was also actively working on the family farm. Margaret attended the Groveland Center Country School, and graduated from McPherson High School in McPherson, Kan., in 1949.
Margaret was a member of the Monitor Community F.C.E., the Groveland Homemakers F.C.E. and Inman Church Women United. She was also a regular volunteer for the Inman Blood Mobile. She was a member of the Groveland Christian Church in Groveland, Kan. Through the years, Margaret served her church in many capacities.
Margaret Ann Rump was united in marriage to Lowell Smith Sawyer on Sept. 2, 1951, at the Groveland Christian Church in Groveland, Kan. Lowell died on March 7, 2006.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Baldwin and her husband, Dwight, of McPherson, Kan., and Sandy Cruise and her husband, Tom, of Concord, N.C.; her son, Doug Sawyer and wife, Laurie, of McPherson, Kan.; her brothers, Clayton Rump and wife, Judy, of Saint Cloud, Fla., and Galen Rump and wife, Pat, of Lindsborg, Kan.; her sisters, Delores Bolton and husband, Norman, of Aurora, Colo., and Janice Taul and husband, Ben, of Broken Bow, Neb.; her grandchildren, Emily Fast and husband, Tyler, Adam Baldwin and wife, Lauren, Derek Sawyer, Lucas Sawyer, Lance Sawyer, Natalie Cruise and Trenton Cruise; and her great-grandson, Rowan Fast. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and LeNora L. (Stephens) Rump; her husband, Lowell S. Sawyer; and a grandson, Dane Sawyer.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Groveland Christian Church, with the family present to receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. Interment will be in McPherson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Groveland Christian Church, in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson.

Carolyn Grace Horner
GALVA - Carolyn Grace Horner, 63, died Feb. 2, 2009.
She was a medical aide for Memorial Home.
Survivors include a son, Merwin Horner of Galva; two daughters, Angela Foran of Canton, and Tammy L. DeWild of McPherson; a brother, Larry Preston of Marquette; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg, with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Mar [cut off]

Rececca Faye Morris
Hesston, Kan. - Rececca Faye Morris, 49, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Via Christy St. Francis in Wichita.
She was a home health care giver.
Survivors include: her mother, Martha Krause of Hillsboro; a son, Ishmael Morris of Hillsboro; brothers Brian Klassen of Valley Center, Robert Ray Klassen of Sanger, Texas, and Daniel Klassen of Casper, Wyo.; and a sister, LeNora Duerksen of Gossel.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Kingdom Life Ministries of Hesston. Pastor Scott Miller will officiate the service.
Burial will take place at the East Lawn Cemetery in Hesston.
The family will receive guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Kingdom Life Ministries in Hesston.

Laura Lee Kubin Thurman
McPherson, Kan. - LAWRENCE- Memorial services for Laura Lee Kubin Thurman, 89, will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at the United Church in Idaho Springs, Col. She died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Pioneer Ridge Health Care Center in Lawrence.
Mrs. Thurman was born Nov. 26, 1919, on the family farm west of McPherson, the daughter of George and Evelyn (Ellrick) Kubin. She attended a one-room school, Elmdale, near her home. She graduated from McPherson High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1942 from Kansas State University where she majored in home economics. She joined the Women’s Army Corps in 1942, just months after it was formed and was the first from McPherson County to do so. She served until 1946. She was a graduate of WAC Officers Candidate School, Class No. 40, obtaining the rank of Captain. Her final assignment was assistant transport commander on the SS Washington, bringing war brides to the United States, and making five trans-Atlantic crossings in 1946.
Mrs. Thurman lived in Denver, Col., and Idaho Springs, Col., for more than 50 years and worked in Safeway’s administrative offices in Denver for 26 years. She moved to Lawrence, Kan., in June 2008.
She was a member of the Idaho Springs United Church. She was active in the Idaho Springs Senior Center where she was volunteer supervisor of the center’s thrift store for 13 years and where she loved to play dominos with her friends. She played golf into her 80s. She was a world traveler, visiting every continent, and was among the first to visit China after it reopened to the west. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a charter member of the Military Women’s Memorial Foundation.
She was married Jan. 5, 1965, to Anthony Thurman and he preceded her in death in 1968. Also preceding her in death was her sister, Maxine Kubin Dunham in 2006. She is survived by nephews, Jon W. Dunham and wife Bonnie, Lawrence, Kan., and Scott K. Dunham, Jacksonville, Fla.; great nephew, Gregory K. Dunham and wife Catherine Peace, and great-great nephew, Hank Woodward Peace Dunham, all of Lawrence, Kan.
Arrangements by Heartland Cremation Society with inurnment at a later date at All Souls Walk, St. John Episcopal Cathedral, Denver. The family suggests memorials to Project Support Senior Center, P.O. 1231, Idaho Springs, Col. 80452.

Alan “Bud“ Weide
Lindsborg, Kan. - Alan “Bud“ Weide, 94 of Lindsborg, died February 7, 2009.
Mr Weide was born October 4, 1914, the son of Albert G. & Emma W. (Opperman) Weide, in Yates Center, Kansas.
A resident of Lindsborg since 1947 moving from Yates Center, Kansas. He was Owner and Operator of Weide Service Station.
Memberships include Messiah Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, and Lindsborg Rod & Gun Club.
On June 4, 1941 he married Mary E. Kline at Yates Center, Kansas, and she died February 1, 1980, he then married Philetha M. Ray on July 3, 1981, in Lindsborg, she died March 10, 2002.
He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Survivors include son, Joel A. of Lindsborg; stepsons, Austin Ray of Dallas and Lewis Ray of Houston; Sister, Doris Diebolt of Iola, KS.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Lindsborg. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.
Memorials may be given to Messiah Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg, with family present from 7-8p.m.

Wilbur V. Ediger
McPherson, Kan. - Wilbur V. Ediger, 83, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009, while in the company of family members at Memorial Hospital in McPherson, Kansas.
He was born in Inman, Kansas on Nov. 27, 1925, the son of the late Abe A. and Sarah F. (Neufeld) Ediger.
Wilbur honorably served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked as a concrete foreman for Pyle Construction in McPherson, Kansas.
Wilbur attended school at Meade, Kansas.
He was the husband of Pearl L. (Weyand) Ediger. They were married on March 6, 1949 at Canton, Kansas.
Surviving members of his family include, wife, Pearl L. Ediger of McPherson, Kansas; son, Doug Ediger of McPherson, Kansas; daughters, Debbie Johnson and husband, Vaughan, of McPherson, Kansas and Angie Sevilla and husband, Scott, of Stockton, California; five grandchildren, Sara Richards, Christopher Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Rachel Sevilla, and Katelyn Sevilla; two great-grandchildren, Brady and Elliott Richards; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ted, Sam, Leonard, and Edwin Ediger; two sisters, Lenora Ediger and Evelyn Minear; and a son, Brent Ediger.
The memorial service will be at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009, with Pastor Deborah Somerville officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Private family graveside inurment services will be at McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas, and will precede the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Hospital, McPherson, Kansas in care of Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid Street, McPherson, KS 67460-4207.

Roger W. Pounds
McPherson, Kan. - Roger W. Pounds, 102, of McPherson, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. He worked at Sid Bacon Motor Co. as an accountant. Prior to that, he farmed in Smith County. Retiring in 1978, he was an accountant at Central Christian College.
Survivors include: wife, Dorothy of the home; daughters, Erma C. Dunham and husband, Calvin, of Russellville, Ark., and Elma M. Habecker and husband, Earl, of Spring Arbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at the Free Methodist Church with Rev. Deborah Somerville and Rev. Tom Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be given to Central Christian College of Kansas, Gideons International, or International Child Care Ministries in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home.

Francis L. “Frank” Reed
McPherson, Kan. - Francis L. “Frank” Reed, 76, McPherson, died Friday, May 2, 2008 at The Cedars. Funeral arrangements are pending with Stockham Family Funeral Home.
