Peggy Lorraine Kingsley
Peggy Lorraine Kingsley, 64, of El Dorado, died Sunday at her home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Carlson Funeral Home. Cremation will preceded the services.
She was born June 24, 1937 to Bob and Martha (Martin) Hughes in Whittier, Calif. She spent most of her life in El Dorado and had worked for Beverly Rehabilitation Center as a nurse aide. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce.
On April 18, 1975, she was married to Leonard Kingsley in Miami, Okla.
Survivors include: her husband of the home; a son, Robert Edwards and wife Jane of El Dorado; daughters, Karen and husband A.J. Thomas of Towanda and Tina and husband Dennis Kennedy of El Dorado; stepsons, Lonnie Kingsley and wife Debbie of St. Joseph, Mo., and Kevin Kingsley and wife Goldie of Augusta; a stepdaughter, Shzelda Glock of El Dorado; brothers, James Hughes of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Byron Hughes of Security, Colo.; sisters, Jolene Anderson of El Dorado and Irene Sessler of Santa Clara, Calif.; grandchildren, A.J. Edwards, Heather Edwards and Justin Kennedy; nine stepgrandchildren; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepgranddaughter; and her stepfather, C.A. Franklin.

Zola Irene Stewart
Zola Irene (Shook) Stewart, 88, of Peabody, died Monday at Peabody. Interment is in Santa Rosa Memorial Park, Santa Rosa, Calif.
She was born July 25, 1912 to Daniel S. and Ethel (Hedrick) Shook in Coffeyville. She graduated from El Dorado High School. She was an insurance bookkeeper.
On Aug. 21, 1937, she was married to Art Stewart in El Cerrito, Calif.
Survivors include: a brother, Howard Shook of Grand Junction, Colo., and sisters, Wauneta Scrivner of Peabody and Charlotte Walker of Aurora, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

George W. Saunders
George W. Saunders, 67, of Potwin, died Tuesday at Avante in Lynchburg, Va. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in McGill Cemetery, Potwin.
He was born March 8, 1934 to George A. and Sarah Alverda McGhee Saunders and spent most of his life in Butler County. He was an operator for Coastal Refinery until retiring. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1963.
On Sept. 27, 1952, he was married to Henrietta "June" Long in Potwin. She preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1998.
Survivors include: a son, Wayne Robert "Bob" Saunders of Altavista, Va.; a grandson, Joseph W. Saunders of Potwin; and a great-grandson.

Robert F. 'Bob' Witt
Robert F. "Bob" Witt, 67, of Towanda, died Tuesday at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Potwin Christian Church in Potwin. Interment will follow in the Potwin Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
He was born May 21, 1934 to John and Leofatha (Shewmaker) Witt in Lees Summit, Mo. He grew up in the Versailles, Mo., area and joined the United States Army at the age of 15 to serve his country during the Korean War. He received four battle-stars during his tour of duty and was involved in the Invasion of Inchon.
On May 25, 1952, he was married to Donna Lou Bennett at the Central Christian Church in Wichita. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2001. He was a manufacture sales representative for recreational vehicles. Then he was employed by Cessna Aircraft Company for over 18 years as a manager of material stores, retiring in 1996.
He loved camping and fishing but most of all he loved his family. He was a member of the Potwin Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of Towanda Masonic Lodge, Midian Shrine, Under Age Veterans of America, Veteran of Foreign Wars and served on the board at Wheatstate Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include: a son, Tim Witt of Wichita; daughters, Cindy and husband Mark Paolucci and Sandi and husband Steve Brooks, all of Wichita; a brother, Ulen Witt of Missouri; sisters, Irene Snorgrass and Shirley Gramlich of Missouri and Dorothy Freeman of Colorado; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darryl Witt; a brother, Billy D. Witt; and a sister, Letha Mae Holland.
The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today. A memorial has been established with the Wichita Vet Center & Korean War Memorial in Wichita in care of Kirby-Morris Funeral Home, which has the arrangements.
Cecil L. Edwards
Cecil L. Edwards, 89, of Eureka, died Tuesday at Wesley Hospital in Wichita. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in El Dorado.
He was born Nov. 27, 1911 to Dan and Ethel Edwards in Bakersfield, Calif. He grew up in Erie, moving there when he was five years old. He worked as a bus driver for the Wichita Transit Authority for over 20 years. Upon retirement he moved to Eureka, where he was a farmer and a rancher. He loved playing cards, dominoes, pool and especially attending family gatherings.
Survivors include: sons, Gary Edwards of El Dorado, Dan Edwards of Dallas, Texas, and Tim Edwards of Erie; daughters, Janette Warren of Ashbury, Mo., Ethel Moreno of Towanda, Linda Edwards of Torrence, Calif., and Cecile Edwards of Wichita; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Leslie E. 'Bud' Johnson
Leslie E. "Bud" Johnson, 72, of Wichita died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
He was born June 19, 1931, in Augusta, the son of Chester Jacob and Cecil Cordelia (Pinon) Johnson. Bud grew up in El Dorado and Butler County and had made his home in Wichita since 1953. He was a retired A-1 Propane route driver and had also worked as a utility contractor and a mechanic on heavy equipment. He was a member of the Christian faith.
On Aug. 15, 1952, he and Elma Jane Kimball were married in Bartlesville, Okla. She preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2003.
Those who survive are two sons, Darrell Johnson of Rose Hill and John Johnson of Wichita; a brother, Robert Johnson of Denver; four sisters, Frances Sieberson and Betty Vannaman, both of Park City, Evelyn Casey of Wichita and Marilyn Holcomb of Caw City, Okla.; five grandchildren, Sheila, Darren, Mike, Brett and April, and seven great-grandchildren, Molly, Branden, Darek, Ramanda, Victoria, Bryce and Payton.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Robert L. Barbee
Robert L. Barbee, 80, of El Dorado died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003 at Medicalodge in Douglass. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Scranton, Kan., the son of Les and Ellen Barbee. He married Amanda June Tyson on June 3, 1941, in Melvern, Kan. He worked for 35 years at the Skelly Refinery. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda, of the home; a son, Robert D. Barbee of El Dorado; a sister, Rosemary Barbee of Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Carlson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no public viewing.
Ethel C. Powell
Ethel C. Powell, 80, of Baltimore, Md., died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003.
Survivors include: sons, David Powell of El Dorado and Henry Powell of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Julie Smith of Hunt Valley, Md.; grandchildren, Charles Powell of Arizona, Justina McFaulds of Germany, James Powell of El Dorado, Heather, Karen, Debbie and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Logan, Emily, Olympia, Angus and Magnus; and many nieces and nephews. She was a devoted mother-in-law to Lois Powell, Irene Powell and Jim Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger F. Powell, in 1993.
Dixie L. Silver
Dixie L. Silver, 70, of El Dorado, died Friday evening, Nov. 28, 2003, at H.C.A. Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Johns Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery. A rosary and vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the church.
She was born May 21, 1933, in El Dorado, the daughter of Omer L. "Red" and Pearl Roads Day. She had lived in El Dorado all of her life. She married Don Silver on July 9, 1954, in El Dorado. She was an office assistant at St. Johns Catholic Church, where she was very active. She organized volunteers for the Lord's Diner in Wichita, she held several offices in the Altar Society, organized and led coping and bereavement sessions, was on the Health and Wellness Committee, led the Compassion Ministry and had coffee's for the bereaved.
Survivors include: husband, Don, of the home; daughters, Shelley Page and Carol Silver, both of El Dorado; and six grandchildren, Jennifer Page of Rose Hill, Ryan Page of Wichita, Matthew Hurlburt of Eureka, Kaitlyn Hurlburt of El Dorado, Amber Silver of Austin, Texas, and Chase Silver of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles; and a brother, Keith Day.

Charles A. Ray
Charles A. Ray, 75, of Augusta, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003. Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta. Visitation is today from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rose Cemetery in Oklahoma on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
He was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Denioa, Okla., the son of Floyd and Evelyn (Gassett) Ray. He was a retired teacher in the Augusta School system and at Vo-Tech at East High in Wichita. He was an active member of the National Federation of Flemish Giant Rabbit breeders and a national winner.
Survivors include: son, Charles A. Ray Jr. and wife, Gale of Towanda; grandson, Damien and Jennifer Ray of Monett, Mo., granddaughter, Kylie Ray of Emporia; great-grandchildren, Ryley and Calab Ray; brothers, Virgil Ray of San Antonio, Texas, and Tom Ray of Hulbert, Okla.; sisters, Erma McKenzie-Wolf Hulbert and Joy Blair, both of Hulbert.

Betty L. Bland Jackson
Betty L. Bland Jackson, 79, of Iola, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at her home. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Moran United Methodist Church. Rev. Ron Bumstead will officiate. Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Waugh-Yokum Friskel Memorial Chapel in Iola.
She was born July 25, 1924, in Savonburg, the daughter of William E. and Georgia L. Swanson Ludlum. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Elsmore. She was confirmed at Friends Home Lutheran Church on July 3, 1938. She graduated from Humboldt High School in 1942. She married Philip H. Bland on Sept. 27, 1942, at LaPorte, Ind. They made their home in the Elsmore area until moving to Moran in 1948. He died Feb. 25, 1965. She worked as a secretary for Marmaton Valley High School from 1967 to 1974. She moved to Iola in 1975, where she served as the Allen County Treasurer from 1975 until 1985. She married Joe Jackson on Nov. 26, 1980, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iola. They made their home in Iola. She was a member of the Moran United Methodist Church, Morian Chapter OES in Moran and Alpha Eta Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
Survivors include: husband, Joe Jackson, of the home; sons, Melvin Bland and wife, Jonet of Moran and Roger Bland and wife, Sharon of Iola; daughters, Phyllis and husband Charles Hays of Overland Park and Kris and husband, Mickey Ramsey of Paola; stepson, Allan Lee Jackson of Wichita; stepdaughter, Theresa and husband, Russell Richardson of Yates Center; brother, Max Ludlum and wife, Bethel of Elsmore; sister, Wilberta and husband, Max Morrison of Iola; sister-in-law, Shirley Ludlum of Moran; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jill V. Jones, 46, of El Dorado died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at The Vyne Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. Services will be Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at 1 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Augusta.
She was born Dec. 9, 1957, in Torrance, Calif., the daugther of Jay and Mary Lou Chastain Moore Jr. She lived in California as a child and for seven years in Phoenix before coming to El Dorado five years ago. She worked at Wal-Mart in the domestic department. She was a member of River of Life Ministries Church.
On Aug. 15, 1998, she married Glenn Jones in El Dorado.
Those she leaves, including her husband, of the home, are a son, Dennis Klapthor, and a daughter, Deniel Klapthor, both of Glendale, Ariz.; her mother and stepfather, Mary Lou and Phillip Hart of El Dorado; a brother, Jay Moore III of El Dorado; three sisters, Jackie Mitchell of Potwin, Juanada Vaughn of Massillon, Ohio, and Jaylena Lewis of Costa Mesa, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; a nephew, Christopher Moore; and her grandmother, Juanita Chastain.

Billy Dan Higgins
Billy Dan Higgins, 76 of El Dorado died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Celebration of Life Ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bill was born Oct. 20, 1927, in Marion, the son of Boyd Victor and Hazel Alene (Jones) Higgins. He grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Georgia Christensen on March 20, 1949 in Marion. Bill worked for Skelly and Getty refineries for more than 28 years before retiring. Bill and Georgia lived in El Dorado but also owned a home in Buena Vista, Colo.
He was a member and former deacon of the First Christian Church. Bill loved to go fishing and hunting. He was especially good at making fishing lures.
Surviving family include his wife, Georgia, of the home; four sons, Jerry Higgins and his wife Shari of Broken Arrow, Okla., Tom Higgins and his wife Diana of Emporia, Rock Higgins and his wife Kate of Denver, and Tracy Higgins and his wife Michelle of El Dorado; two brothers, Boyd Higgins of Hutchinson, and John Higgins of Topeka; four sisters, Hazel Selvy of Colorado Springs, Rosalene Stinchcomb of Marion, Sandra Dody of Wichita, and Karen Higgins Smith of Hutchinson; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters; Ethel Collett, Jessie Bowers, and Leona Helmer.
