El Dorado, Kan. - Services for Helen Louise George, 94, of Lenexa and a former resident of Emporia will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lebo Cemetery. Mrs. George died December 9, 2007.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband and a sister, Ruth Young of El Dorado. Local arrangements are being handled by Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado.

David O. Donham
El Dorado, Kan. - David O. Donham, 63, of Leon, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 in Overland Park.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Leon Christian Church. Burial will follow in Leon Cemetery.
David was born Nov. 10, 1944 in Wichita, the son of Charles F. and Verda Faye Donnelley Donham. He moved to Leon in 1957. He retired as plant manager for Union Tank Car and was still working as a rancher. On Oct. 29, 1966, he was married to Lisa Morris in Leon. He was a member of the Leon Christian Church, Joppa Masonic Lodge and the Median Shrine. He served in the National Guard from 1962 to 1969.
Survivors include: his wife Lisa, of the home; three daughters, Melissa Donham of Leon, Amy and Clint Patty of Topeka and Molly Donham and fiance’ Adam; mother, Verda Faye Yeager of Wichita; brother, Charles Donham of Wichita; sister Mary Yeager of Rialto, Calif.; and one grandson, Grant Donham Patty.
Memorials in his memory may be given to the Leon Christian Church. Carlson Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Annette Nelson
El Dorado, Kan. - Annette Nelson, 71, El Dorado, died Wednesday, July 16, 208 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m.Tuesday at Carlson Funeral Home. Cremation will precede the service.
She was born April 30, 1937 in El Dorado, the daughter of Glen and Dessie (Byers) Chilton.
Annette worked as a waitress and cashier in several different locations in the area.
On May 24, 1954, she was married to Roy J. Nelson in El Dorado and he preceded her in death on May 29, 2002.
Those she leaves are: her children, Teresa Branstetter, Roberta Berd and Brenda Gannon, all of El Dorado, and Michael Nelson of Elbing; brother, Gerald Montgomery of El Dorado; sisters, Patricia Adlesperger of El Dorado, Carole Howard of McPherson and Mary Poffinberger of Potwin; another brother, Gary Chilton of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Montgomery and Ralph Chilton; and a grandchild, Shannon.
Carlson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lisle W. Wormser
El Dorado, Kan. - Lisle W. Wormser, 90, passed away July 15, 2008 at LakePoint Nursing Center in El Dorado. Lisle was born Oct. 13, 1917 in Ada, Kan., the only child of Charles and Ethel Wormser. He graduated from Ada High School in 1936. He was married to Evelyn Russell of Bennington in 1940. During the war, he served in the Army as shipping sergeant. He graduated from Wichita School of Aeronautics, and worked in steel fabrication at Cardwell Manufacturing in Wichita for 35 years. He worked at International Petroleum Services in El Dorado until his retirement in 1993. He loved gardening, woodworking and ice cream. He was preceded in death by Evelyn, his beloved wife of 67 years. He is survived by: son, Richard (Cynthia) Wormser of El Dorado; daughter, Sherry (Steve) Mason of Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughters, Marcy (Jeremy) Davis of Wichita and Rebekah (Jeremy) Elder of Springfield, Mo.; aunt, Mona Usher of El Dorado; cousin, Twila Rezek of Tuscon, Ariz.; step-grandchildren, Donald (Staci) Cope of Altus, Okla., and Shannon (Scott) Lovett of Faxon, Okla.; second cousins, nieces and nephews and great grandchildren, and will be missed by all. Memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association. Graveside services are at White Chapel Memorial Gardens at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Wichita.

David Jackman, Jr.
El Dorado, Kan. - David Jackman, Jr., 88, of rural Leon, died Jan. 27, 2009. Services for Mr. Jackman will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Private committal will be held.
He was born in Wichita on Aug. 6, 1920, the son of David Stockdal and Nora Ethyl (LaGrant) Jackman. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics, and later served in the U.S. Army. He was a Captain in the Field Artillery stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., when he was discharged.
David was an avid game hunter. He traveled all over the world and had many trophies. He was persistence in establishing turkeys in Butler County, and was known for his support for many charities.
Mr. Jackman and his business associates started their corporation Oil Producer’s, Inc. of Kansas. He remained as chairman of the board until the time of his death.
He was a charter member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and had received numerous awards and honors including some of the following: A member of the Land Grant Legacy Society presented by Kansas State University Foundation; a life member of the Fairmount Society at Wichita State University in recognition and appreciation for his support of the University programs; was recognized as a major benefactor of Mayo Foundation; recognition of his lasting commitment to forestry for the Jackman State Demonstration Forest with the Kansas Forest Service at Kansas State University; the Wildlife Habitat Conservation Award from the Kansas Bankers Association and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks; and numerous Certificates of Awards from the County Soil Conservation Committee.
He is survived by: his wife, Larree A. Jackman of the home; a brother, John Jackman, Loveland, Colo.; two children, Katherine Hanscom and David Jackman, III; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles M.Jackman.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name to the charity of the donor’s choice may be left with Carlson Funeral Home, where friends may call.

Darlene Opal Beal
El Dorado, Kan. - Darlene Opal Beal, 88, of El Dorado, died at her home Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 2009.
The celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church.
Burial will follow the services in the Towanda Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.
Darlene was born Oct. 22, 1920 in Towanda, the daughter of Frederick and Ethel Rollings Marten. She has lived in this area all of her life. She attended Silverton School #15, Towanda High School, and graduated with the Class of 1942 from the El Dorado High School. She also graduated from the Susan B. Allen Memorial Nursing School. She was united in marriage to Leonard Beal on March 20, 1946 at the Assembly of God Church in El Dorado. From 1945 until 1960, she worked as R.N. at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. She also had worked for Valley View and Knutson Manor Nursing homes and served as a Private Duty Nurse for Dr. Cloyes.
Darlene was a very faithful member of the Assembly of God Church since 1938. She was the last living charter member of the El Dorado church. She taught Sunday school for over 30 years, Missionettes for 30 years, and took care of the church nursery.
Surviving family include: her husband, Leonard of the home; son, Frederick and wife Leona of Salina; daughter, Beverly and her husband Mark Somerville of El Dorado; daughter-in-law, Maria Beal; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald; brother; and two grandsons.
Memorials have been established with either the Assembly of God Church or with the Gideons for Bibles. Contributions may be left with the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home.

Phillip L. Murphy
El Dorado, Kan. - Phillip L. Murphy, 74, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Temple Baptist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7:30 tonight at Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado. Interment will be in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.
He was born April 19, 1934 at Anthony, the son of Kline David and Irene Estelle (Bloom) Murphy.
Phillip grew up on a farm near Amorita, Okla., and graduated from school in Amorita. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1959 spending his military service at Fort Riley. Other than the time he spent in the Army, he held but two jobs all his life. He worked for Wheatland Oil Company in Kiowa for 20 years and then for the rest of his 20 years of working time, for National Gypsum Company at Medicine Lodge, where he retired as line foreman in 1996. Outside of his love for his family he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of Midian Shrine, Scottish Rites, both of Wichita, Cosmos Lodge #278, Kiowa; Lorraine Chapter # 39 of Eastern Star in Barber County and the Barber County Shrine. The family moved to El Dorado in 2002.
He was married to Ruth Kutz and then later to Wilma M. Martin Kain on Sept. 3, 1979.
Those he leaves include: his wife of the home; son, James (Jim) Murphy of Pratt; a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Marion Williams of Harper; step-son, Robert Lee Bonnewell and wife Mary Beth of Andover; step-daughters, Sharon Varner and husband Douglas of El Dorado and Arlene Neukirch of El Dorado; sister-in-laws, Ruth Murphy and Helen Murphy of Oklahoma City; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials in his memory for Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy or Kansas Hospice Care may be left with Carlson Funeral Home, which is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Emily Cleone ‘Toni’ Lewis
El Dorado, Kan. - Emily Cleone “Toni” Lewis, 85, of El Dorado, died Jan. 25, 2009 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Emporia, with Mr. Elton Jenson officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Emporia.
Emily was born April 15, 1923 in North Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Arlie S. and Lettie Chadwick Campbell. On Dec. 29, 1948, she was married to A. Lloyd Lewis of El Dorado. She was a homemaker.
Emily was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, PEO and spent many years as a 4-H leader in the Lyon County area. She earned her associate degree from Weber State College, her bachelor of science degree from Utah State University, attended Philadelphia Textile Institute and earned a master’s degree from Kansas State University.
She is survived by: her husband; daughters, Lynette Frisbie of Wichita, Janene Dewey of Fairbank, Alaska, and Lee Ann Urton of El Dorado; brother, La Vere “Bud” Campbell of Peyton, Colo.; five grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Melva Campbell Kammeyer; an infant brother; and an infant sister.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia, which has the arrangements.

Nadine Lillian Adams
El Dorado, Kan. - Nadine Lillian Adams, 83, of Potwin, passed away in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Jan. 21, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Richard “Doc” Adams; two sons, James “Tuck” Morgan and Pat Adams; and her parents and siblings. Nadine is survived by four sons, Gale “Nip” Morgan of Lone Pine, Calif., Raymond “Skip” Morgan of Agua Dulce, Calif., Rick Morgan of Moorpark, Calif., and Mike Adams of Potwin; granddaughters, Wendi Graff, Asta Hill, Rebecca Bryan, Casi Morgan, Amber Howell and Jessica Rountree; grandsons, Lyle Zahorsky and Jason Morgan; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Nadine’s family and friends will celebrate her life with a memorial service in Potwin on Mother’s Day weekend, May 9.

Dennis Wade Williams
El Dorado, Kan. - Dennis Wade Williams, 49, of El Dorado, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at his home. Private family services will be held.
He was born Nov. 5, 1958 in El Dorado, the son of Wendell N. and Joy F. (Nearhood) Williams. He spent all his life in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High School. He had worked for ICS in Andover in the Shop. Dennis had been disabled since 1993. He was a member of First Baptist Church in El Dorado.
Those who survive are: his father, Wendell N. Williams of Fort Smith, Ark.; his mother, Joy F. Williams of El Dorado; a sister, Cheryl D. Brueggeman of Houston; and two sons, Timothy J. Williams of Wichita and Trevor Brooks of Augusta.
Memorials in his memory for Hospice Care of Kansas may be sent to Carlson Funeral Home, El Dorado, who is handling the arrangements for the family.

Marie Williams
El Dorado, Kan. - Marie Williams, 97, of El Dorado, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009 in Whitewater. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Lawns Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Carlson Funeral Home.
Marie was born March 24, 1911 to Walter and Bertha (Lopshire) Reed in Salina. On July 27, 1929 she was married to Charles Cleo Williams in Bartlesville, Okla. She spent most of her life in El Dorado raising her family, caring for grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie enjoyed working with family at the local AmVets. She also loved spending time outdoors either in her garden or at her favorite fishing spots which included several area lakes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cleo Williams on Oct. 10, 1977; five brothers and one sister; two sons, Virgil Duane (Butch) and Charles Kenneth (Kenny) on March 9, 1966; and one daughter, Doris Jane Higgins on Dec. 12, 2008.
Those she leaves behind are: one brother, Virgil Reed; five daughters, Norma Edwards of Leon, Dorothy Harder of El Dorado. Carol and Larry Faulkner of Colony, Peggy and Kent Peterson of El Dorado, and Shyrl and Bill Rupert of El Dorado; three sons, Vernon Williams of El Dorado, Pete and Teenie Williams of Marion, and Sonny Williams of El Dorado; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be left in her memory to Hospice Care of Kansas in care of Carlson Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Sondra La Donna (Huggins) Liggens
El Dorado, Kan. - Sondra La Donna (Huggins) Liggens, 46, of El Dorado, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at her home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Park Avenue Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
She was born April 7, 1962 in El Dorado, the daughter of Thad and Maudie O’Neal Huggins. Sondra grew up in El Dorado and moved to Midwest City, Okla., in 1981. She returned to El Dorado in August 2007. She was a Medical Billing Clerk at Rolling Hills in Ada, Okla. Sondra was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church.
She leaves a son, Private Stevon Liggens of Camp Hunphrey, South Korea; two daughters, Shamika Huggins of El Dorado and La Keisha Liggens of Midwest City; a grandson, Kayden Barber of Midwest City; her ex-husband and life-long friend, MSG E 8 Carlos Liggens of Denver; her parents, Thad and Maudie Huggins of El Dorado; a brother, Kenny Huggins of Wichita; and a sister, Kendra Reynolds of Wichita.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Webb.
Memorials in her memory for the American Cancer Society, Brain Tumors Study may be left with Carlson Funeral Home, where friends may call.

Verna D. Offen
El Dorado, Kan. - Verna D. Offen, 70, of El Dorado, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, in El Dorado.
There will be a lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the V.F.W. and visitation from 1 to 7 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home. Cremation with proceed with no service.
Verna was born on Feb. 25, 1938, in VanBuren, Mo., the daughter of Orville W. and Willie J. (Davis) Mead. She was a homemaker and a member of the V.F.W., American Legion. She enjoyed bowling, shopping and working with leather.
She was united in marriage to Benny Offen on Oct. 2, 1956 in Newkirk, Okla.
She leaves her husband, Benny, of 52 years; her children, Charlotte Jeffrey and her husband Dennis of El Dorado, Michelle Plante of El Dorado, Juanita Dauber and her husband Terry of Kechi, and Charles Offen of El Dorado; one sister, Wanita Harms and her husband Lawrence; two brothers, Don Mead of El Dorado and James Mead and his wife Chris of Yakima, Wash.; four grandchildren; and eight great-granchildren.
A memorial in her memory is for the Kansas Heart Association which may be left Carlson Funeral, who is in charge of the arrangements.

El Dorado, Kan. - Vernon Ray Martin, 74, retired construction worker for Morrison Knudson Construction Co., passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008. Vernon was born in Douglass, to Ernest and Florence (Looman) Martin. They preceded him. Vernon was graduated from El Dorado High and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 during the Korean Conflict. Survivors: sons, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Martin of Kechi and Randy Adams of Florence, Ky.; daughters, Nanette (James) Squier of Beaumont and Jennifer (Thad) Colling of Andover; brother, Keith (Kathy) Martin of El Dorado; cousin, Don (Mary Lou) Taylor of El Dorado; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. No visitation. Graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending please use the Ohio Street entrance. Memorials: American Heart Association or American Cancer Society in care of Dunsford~Zeiner Funeral Home.
