COLUMBUS — Donna L. Nichols, 83 of Columbus, KS formerly of Grove,
OK died at 11:45 pm Saturday February 27, 2010 at the Freeman West
Hospital in Joplin, MO.
She was born October 10, 1926, in Scammon, KS the daughter of
Edward and Anna (Adamson) Reynolds. She attended area schools and
graduated from the West Mineral High School.
In 1951 she was united in marriage to Doyle Nichols in Eureka Springs,
AR; he preceded her in death on October 16, 1990.
Donna was a homemaker and a past member of the Order of the Eastern
Star.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Betty Thompson of Columbus, and
Michele Shafe of Tulsa, OK; three brothers: Bob Reynolds of Orange,
TX, Bill Reynolds of Miami, OK and Eddie Reynolds of Scammon; five
grandchildren Stephanie Newberry, Cheri Froelich, Leslie Lackamp,
Daniel Shafe, Cindy Shafe; great grandchildren: Dustin Newberry, Jay
Froelich, Derrick Newberry, Jessica Froelich, Bill Lackamp and Keegan
Shafe; one great-great grandchild Logan Newberry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister Shirley
Westervelt.
Graveside services will be 1 pm Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Oswego
CityCemeterywith Elder Larry Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow.
Friends and family are requested to meet at the funeral home and follow
in procession to the cemetery, the procession will leave the funeral home
in Columbus at 12:30 pm. Family will receive friends at the Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home in Columbus from 6-8 pm on Wednesday.
Memorials may be made to the Grove Humane Society, these may be left
at or mailed to the funeral home. Services by the Bath-Naylor Funeral
Home 611 S. East Ave, Columbus, KS 66725.

COLUMBUS - Lloyd R. Mayhood, 84 of Columbus, KS died at 2:29 p.m.,
Friday, February 26, 2010 at his home.
Lloyd was born September 2, 1925 in rural Columbus, KS to Archie Same
and Bessie (Mathews) Mayhood.
Lloyd served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was
in the Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland Campaigns. He
received the Victory medal, EAME Ribbon and Three Bronze stars
cluster, American Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon. He
was the recipient of the Purple Heart, for being wounded in action on
August 6, 1944 in Aron, France. He was honorably discharged in
December 17, 1945.
On December 24, 1945, in Columbus, KS, he married Eva Laizure. She
survives of the home.
Lloyd worked for B.F. Goodrich Tire Plant, for more than 40 years, in
various positions.
Lloyd was a life member of the American Legion Post #3 of Columbus,
KS.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dale Mayhood.
Additional survivors include his sons, Carrol Mayhood and wife Dorinda
of Aurora, CO, Terry, Randy Mayhood and wife Brenda of Roanoke, TX
and Joel Kim Mayhood of Columbus; brother, Earl Mayhood of
Indianapolis, IN; one granddaughter, Dana Grange and her husband
David of Lone Tree, CO; two great-grandsons, Brendan and Kelton
Grange of Lone Tree, CO; step-granddaughter, Justina Gottlieb and
husband Josh of Dallas, TX; step-grandson, Nathan Campbell; along with
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wed., March 3, 2010 at Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home, 611 S. East Ave., Columbus, KS with Rev. Dennis
Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, where the
American Legion Post #3 of Columbus, will have flag presentation. The
family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tueday at the funeral home.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home of Columbus.

Lois V. Hohl, 70 of Frontenac, KS died at 5:40pm, Tuesday, February 23,
2010 at Sunset Manor in Frontenac, KS.
Lois was born May 13, 1939, in Great Bend, KS to Jacob J. and Della
Mae (Petersen) Schneider. She attended Larned schools, graduating
from Larned High School with the class of 1957.
On November 24, 1956, in Larned, KS, she married Melvin O. Hohl. He
survives of the home.
Lois worked as a mental health worker at the Larned State Hospital for
numerous years. She became a homemaker, and later worked for
Respite of Crawford County.
Lois was active in her earlier years in the PTA and as a Den Mother. She
was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Pittsburg, where
she was formerly the Sunday school secretary, and involved in children
ministries. She was very instrumental in the organization of the Mission
Kits provided by the church.
Additional survivors include her sons Melvin J. Hohl and wife Della of
Pittsburg, Kurtis Hohl and Pam of Weir, KS and Neil Hohl and wife Angey
of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Linnea Knisely and husband Rick of Prescott
Valley, AZ, six grandchildren Stefanie Beesley and husband Greg, Sam
Hohl, Amanda Knisely, Kirsten Hohl, John Jacob “J.J.” Knisely and Seuris
Hohl, along with one great-granddaughter Peyton Beesley.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Kara Hohl.
Funeral services will be 10:00am, Monday, March 1, 2010 at Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Jim Sukraw
officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30pm, at the Ft. Scott National
Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until
8pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may call the funeral home
after 2pm on Sunday.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the
form of memorials to Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center Cancer Center.
Memorials may be left at or mailed to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S.
Broadway, Pittsburg, KS 66762.

PITTSBURG — Vera Wood, 92 of Pittsburg, KS formerly of Frontenac
died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Cornerstone Village
in Pittsburg.
She was born November 18, 1917 in rural Frontenac the daughter of
William and Lois (Allison) Mullikin. She attended area schools and
graduated from the Frontenac High School with the Class of 1935.
On March 25, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lonzo Wood in Girard,
KS; he preceded her in death on September 7, 2007.
Vera was a homemaker and occasionally helped her husband in the
State Farm office. She was a longtime member of the Grace United
Methodist Church in Pittsburg. She was an avid golfer and former
member and past president of the Countryside Country Club Golf
Association. She was also a member of the Frontenac American Legion
Auxiliary and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star #369
Garland, KS Chapter. She also was an avid bowler.
Survivors include a daughter Irene Arnold and husband Noel of Pittsburg;
a son James “Jim” Wood of Pittsburg; two nephews Lynn Stewart of OH
and Allen Stewart of Broken Arrow, OK; seven grandchildren and 12
great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son and daughter-
in-law David and Martha Wood.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Pastor Don Foster
officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family will receive friends
immediately following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist
Church and/or the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. These may
be left at or mailed to the funeral home. Services by Bath-Naylor Funeral
Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762.

LaVaun M. Smokewood, 96 of Pittsburg formerly of Weir died at 9:25
p.m. Tuesday February 16, 2010 at the Cornerstone Village Nursing
Facility in Pittsburg.
She was born July 18, 1913 in Arcadia, KS the daughter of Lee George
and Mary Jane (Fewin) Smith. She attended schools in Pittsburg and
was a graduate of Pittsburg High School.
LaVaun married Elmer Smokewood on December 15, 1936 in
Carthage, MO; he preceded her in death on December 26, 1973.
She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, Senior
Citizens and the Crawford County Solon #824.
Survivors include a step-son Darrell Smokewood of Augusta, KS; a
sister Lila Saker of Kansas City; a granddaughter Cindy Caudell of
Wichita and a nephew Billy Smith of Florida. She was preceded in death
by her parents, husband, 3 step-daughters Dorothy Morris, Alpha
Waddell, Anna Smokewood; 2 brothers-Harless and Richard Smith and 2
sisters Frances Griffitts and Mona Holman.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday February 19, 2010 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with Aaron Williams officiating. Burial
will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. Friends may call the funeral home
after noon on Thursday to sign the register.
Arrangements are under the direction of the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 104 W. Main St. Weir, KS.
